Guest Reviews
- charles (10/5): I intend to go back. - The Crown has a relaxed atmosphere, a beautiful courtyard, excellent food, attentive staff and rooms fitted out to a high spec.
I used it as a base for cycling in the Stour and Box valleys. The area feels like an England of a different era. Altogether charming. It’s rare to find a hotel in the UK that does not fail in some important detail. The Crown is remarkable in this respect: everything was just right.

- Sham (10/5): Excellent little hotel-cum-restaurant, great ambiance in lovely setting. - I've stayed here before and wasn't disappointed. I loved the view from our room, which looked out over the fields. Loved the food in the restaurant and the excellent service. Staff were friendly, accommodating and efficient. The location is in my favourite Dedham Vale village. Plus, it feels like a 'local' that people go to for a good meal and a drink, rather than a hotel only for tourists. Good ambiance. Nothing.

- Charles (8/5): Great stay, will stop again, a more comfy bed would have achieved a higher score.have achieve - The bedroom was great apart from a very hard bed and needed more bedding The modern, bathroom exceptionally smart and clean, shower great. Plenty of parking close to the bedroom. The dining area was a pleasure place to eat and enjoy the excellent food. Staff brilliant. The hard bed as above, and an extra chair in the bedroom would be nice.
- Linda (10/5): Highly Recommend - Great stay. The room was very spacious, nicely decorated and well equipped. We had a sharing board in the bar Sunday evening which was fantastic and breakfast was also outstanding. The service was really good (especially in the bar in the evening). We would definitely return again. Everything was great.

- Christopher (10/5): Lovely place, lovely room excellent food. - Breakfast was excellent. Just the bedding, a light warm duvet would have been better.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent accomodation. - Breakfast was lovely. Variety of cereals, juices, and hot food options.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Liz (9/5): Excellent location - The room was lovely, big and airy with an outside seating area which was a lovely surprise. The bathroom was huge and provided some really nice toiletries. The pub had a great atmosphere and we enjoyed our evening. As we sat down to eat breakfast at 9:00am, it was obvious the carpet had not been hoovered as it was covered with remnants of food which had fallen to the floor from the busy night before. Rather unpleasant and unnecessary. Even though the breakfast was nice, it was somewhat spoilt by the random grape, cocktail stick and crumbs which scattered over the floor under and around our table.
- Elaine (10/5): Good price lovely food beautiful setting 5 star - Food and breakfast was lovely fantastic place to stay There was nothing I didn’t like
- Hayley (10/5): Amazing place lovely location good service and food definitely be returning - Clean, spacious everything you could need
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Selfies (10/5): The staff were all very welcoming. Our room was lovely. We booked dinner on arrival, excellent range of choices. We plac - The location. We booked between stops on our journey. Loved the property.
- Helen (10/5): Luxurious rooms in a beautiful location. Excellent breakfast. - The room was beautiful with a lovely little flowery courtyard outside. The breakfast was great. The beer was splendid. Breakfast staff were very good.
- Laura (10/5): Practicly perfect in every way! - How we felt at home in this super comfortable room and the hotel grounds The people in the room next door opening to the back lawn were extremely loud, someone was smoking and their dog and child (could have been people visiting them and not staying there since there were so many of them) ran back and forth across “our” terrace area. We love both kids and dogs but didn’t expect so much excessive running around. Once they were gone it was quiet again - this was only 30 minutes of our entire stay so I am not complaining- the place is wonderful!
- Jannette (10/5): Exceptional - Very well kept and friendly staff The rain! But lovely the following day.
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (9/5): The hotel was in a great location for when we travel to see family and very comfortable - Good breakfast and evening meal was very nice - busy pub and casual experience - the room was very comfortable Nothing really

- 500mile (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing food and lovely country pub. Lots of tables and cosy places to sit. Comfortable atmosphere. Absolutely nothing.
- Celia (10/5): Wonderful friendly helpful staff, excellent food and excellent comfortable rooms - Attractive friendly. In beautiful countryside Nothing
- Agnes (8/5): Lovely clean and warm venue. Rooms were lovely and staff friendly and helpful. - Breakfast was good. Would have like some more selection for continental breakfast. The outside path from the rooms to the restaurant could do with better lighting. I didn’t see bottom step and fell. Luckily no harm done.
- Alice (9/5): Superb -
- Lianne (10/5): Lovely will be back - Breakfast was absolutely lovely, great choice and set me up for the day!
- Howard (10/5): Excellent all round - Very nice accommodation in a separate building from the pub All good
- Julie (9/5): Warm ,cozy quiet luxurious accommodation. Extremely friendly staff . - Breakfast was lovely relaxing. Free papers. Lady serving was extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing
- Jean (8/5): I would have no hesitation in recommending the Crown Inn. - It was an exceptionally cold and frosty night, and the room was lovely and warm. Everything about the room was comfortable, with good quality fittings, and spotless. I arrived mid evening, and I only wanted a light meal, so was very happy with a small portion of very well cooked fish and chips. The breakfast in the morning was equally good. All the staff were very friendly and efficient.
To me it was excellent value for money, I’ve paid more for lesser quality. I have no negatives at all.

- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glenn (10/5): Relaxing night away - From the time we arrived to the time we left, everything was great. The room was fantastic as was the restaurant and food.
The outside garden area is absolutely stunning. We will most certainly be back for another romantic stay. Would have been nice to have some benches for couples to sit together rather than all individual chairs
- Sam (9/5): Superb - Everything, food, comfortable room. Hot chocolate option in the room all excellent. Nothing to dislike
- Mark (10/5): exceeded expectations - all the staff where very friendly, making you feel warm and welcome.
bar and restaurant had a homely warm feeling which I find relaxing.

- Klaire (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vallois (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (10/5): Tranquil country gastropub with cosy rooms, ideal for walking - Lovely modern cosy room with a smart bathroom and a powerful hot shower. Comfy bed and large-sized wardrobes with a really good hospitality area (kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, biscuits, filtered water, corkscrew, wine glasses). Every detail seemed to have been considered!
Breakfast was a little slow the first morning (30 mins' wait for a cooked breakfast) but was much slicker the next day. Fabulous cooked breakfast with lots of options. Dinner was excellent, highly recommended. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Very quiet and tranquil area with options to walk along the Stour Valley trail and other footpaths, just what we wanted! Check in is via the bar in the main restaurant and we had to wait a while. Admittedly it was a Saturday evening around 6pm but I would have preferred a dedicated Reception area. Also, the TV in our room was rather small compared to other hotels but, to be honest, we were out for most of the time so it wasn't really an issue.
- Alan (9/5): All good. - Excellent breakfast
- Barbara (10/5): Excellent, perhaps meal and wine was expensive however it was all very very good - Lovely Place. peaceful, comfortable, excellent food and wine
- Sue (10/5): Lovely accommodation and beautiful gardens excellent breakfast will stay again - Lovely spacious accommodations-
