- Sonali (10/5): The owners are delightful and the lake side views are stunning - Beautiful location and quiet - easy access to kayak rental. A bit of a walk to ‘town’
- Carl (8/5): - Great location. Lovely garden. Well equipped kitchen.
- Antonella (8/5): - We loved the view on the lake and the garden! Also the staff was lovely and nice The bathroom was a bit dirty. There were many spider webs and ants. In addition, it is necessary to bring a sleep mask because there are no blackout curtains. Also, during the night it was difficult to sleep due to the dogs barking.
- Rachel (9/5): Great stay - We enjoyed our stay! Beautiful location right on the lake!! The hosts were great. A little bit of a walk to town to get food, but just takes some advanced planning and that was well communicated by the hosts. Definitely recommend!
- Alan (9/5): Everything was perfect, and the transatlantic crisis worked well! 😜 - The location was perfect with a stunning view of the lake. The immunities were very comfortable. It’s a private joke, but Americans now know what a stopcock is 😂
- Ana (9/5): Buena estancia - Vistas increíbles y habitación muy cómoda
- Cindy (10/5): -
- Natacha (10/5): Amazing lake views - We stayed for 4 nights and had a great time!
Our lake-view bungalow was comfortable and the views were absolutely beautiful.
We especially loved having our own private garden with sun loungers, it was such a nice place to relax.
The staff and the owner, Lee, were very friendly and helpful, while still being discreet and never intrusive.
Lee also gave us lots of great tips to make the most of our stay. Since we love hiking, we really appreciated his recommendations.
There were also plenty of food options within walking distance, which made everything very convenient.
We truly enjoyed our time in Santa Cruz de la Laguna, it still feels like an authentic village with real everyday life.
That said, don’t come expecting a luxury resort experience. The property is charming and enjoyable, but more simple and laid-back.
For example, there was no housekeeping during our 4-night stay, and one of the windows had no curtain, so the light came in early in the morning.
One thing to keep in mind: bring earplugs, as the dogs in the area can bark throughout the night.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to travelers looking for an authentic and relaxing experience rather than a high-end resort. -
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful tranquil spot on Lake Atitlan - Beautiful location. Perfect quiet place by the lake A few ants in the bathroom but no big deal
- Jeniffer (10/5): -
- Gill (8/5): Beautiful spot spoilt by barking dogs - The property is in the most idyllic setting. It is very rustic but that was to be expected. We loved sitting in the outdoor kitchen, which was very well stocked, unfortunately it was too windy and cold in the evening to sit outside. Be aware that there are lots of dogs in the area - 3 on the property and the barking starts around 6am!! It's a shame as it spoils what should be a really relaxing environment.
We stayed 3 nights and the bins weren't emptied at all and there was nothing to wipe the bathroom down.
- Joanne (10/5): - We had an awesome stay! The location is so beautiful. The owners Elaine and Lee were so helpful with anything we needed. A truly beautiful and relaxing stay! Highly recommended.
- Elena (7/5): Good stay, but overpriced - Spectacular views! Clean and spacious. Owners did not seem locals, but seemed kind and quickly stopped to say hi. The price-to-value ratio was disappointing. While the room offers spectacular views of the lake and volcano and is really nice in itself, we expected a higher level of privacy at this price point. The private area was only separated by a small, see-through fence, meaning it was not truly isolated and remained visible to others. The sun sets early as it goes behind the Eastern side.
The kitchenette is not particularly usable unless guests plan well in advance, as the property is quite isolated from shops.
For the price charged, we would have expected additional amenities, such as breakfast included, or a complimentary kayak for example. Overall, a bit overpriced for Guatemalan standards. Moreover, it can get a bit noisy as the windows are really thin.
- Ricardo (10/5): Amazingly scenic and comfortable lakefront room. - Amazingly scenic and comfortable lakefront room. The staff is very friendly and acommodating and the room has everything that you might need for a comfortable stay. You can take a boat right to the property so that you don't have to carry your bags a long way along the lakeside path. We stayed for New Year's Eve and the view of the fireworks displays from all the towns around the lake was exceptional. There is honestly nothing that I disliked about our stay, the place is amazing and I hope to return again.
- John (8/5): - Great location right on the lake front. It’s nothing fancy, but it is comfortable and clean, and the view is unbeatable! The hosts Lee and Elaine were very responsive and helpful.
- Geraldine (10/5): -
- Brenda (10/5): -
- Cynthia (9/5): Perfect spot to relax for a few days. - Amazing view of the volcano across the lake, with chairs and hammocks to relax in outside. Nice furnished kitchen area with patio. Mosquito net in bed. Great hot water. Kayaks for rent at decent prices. Has its own dock for the public boats (lanchas). The couple who own it are American but have lived here for years and are very involved with local social enterprise initiatives. Very friendly and helpful too. The wifi was satellite but didn’t work except for from a few specific places.

- Rosanna (9/5): Stay here to enjoy Lake Atitlan! - Absolutely stunning views of the lake, great location tucked away in Santa Cruz nearby a very cute cafe/restaurant, and only 10 minutes walk from the main street (very safe / easy walk). We visited other towns on the lake but really loved this little town. Loved that we could easily hire kayaks. The kitchen was pretty well stocked and had everything we needed. Just so relaxing overall! Owners were very kind. Thank you for a lovely stay. This would be a 10 star listing if not for the dogs howling and barking through the night and in the early morning. We couldn’t work out where the sound was coming from but it felt like they were right next to our bedroom and unfortunately did mean our sleep was very broken. I’m not sure what the owners can do about it.

- Lesley (10/5): Charming, lakefront bungalow retreat tucked in unspoiled, tropical paradise with ALL the comforts - From the moment our Lake Atitlan launch dropped us at the La Bonita at Los Elementos private dock, we were enveloped in a lush, tranquil, safe and relaxed paradise! Our hosts, Lee and Eileen, made our stay perfect! Although easily accessible from Panajachel and Santa Cruz, La Bonita is a self-contained, boat-access only retreat that instantly made us feel as though we did not have a care in the world. The charming property consists of three discrete guest dwellings, each of which is totally private with white picket and/or privet shrubbery and is equipped with outdoor kitchens, wonderful pillows and linens, local artwork and textiles, spacious patios and direct access to lakefront swimming and mountain/volcano views. We enjoyed lounging in the hammocks in the shared yoga/lounging space and being greeted by the friendly cats and dogs who belong to the hosts. As the property is lakefront, we could exit our private space, then access the dock and the lake within feet. Accommodations are generous, American-size/standards for beds, etc, very clean, comfortable and affordable. This property exceeded our expectations and is more beautiful than the photos depict!
Lee and Eileen are committed to the preservation of the beauty and culture of Santa Cruz and founded a highly success non-profit, Amigos de Santa Cruz, to promote vocational education and economic self-sustainment within the region. Lee gave us a brief history on Santa Cruz and guided us (via tuk tuk) to Cafe Sabor Cruceno which features local dishes and offers the most stunning view of Lake Atitlan - what a gem. Lee and Eileen made our one night stay so effortless. They coordinated the shuttle to/from Antigua, upgraded us from a one-bedroom cabin to the two-bedroom cabin (to accommodate special sleeping needs), arranged for a same-day, in-room massage, and were generally so welcoming and helpful.
Fantastic place! Lovely bathroom and strong flow of hot water, but be careful not to slip on the smooth tiles when in the shower or if there is any moisture on the floor.
- Claire (8/5): Beautiful location - Amazing view and good location for Santa Cruz! Beautiful location and easy to hire kayaks. The male owner was very dismissive via message, not keen to recommend or help in any way. Also worth noting that the property has a lot of dogs that bark very early.
- Edyta (9/5): Great place to relax - Great location by the lake. It was clean. The owner is very nice Despite the fact that check-in was from 2 p.m., when I arrived at 3 p.m. the room was still not ready and I had to wait. The owner came 30 minutes before check-out and wanted to take the dirty bedding, which was a bit out of place
- Michele (10/5): A Beautiful Tranquil Hideaway - A beautiful little piece of paradise in Santa Cruz. You have your own private garden with picnic table and lounge chairs, a well equipped kitchen to do some cooking outside and hot water for a shower after a busy day lounging around looking at the amazing view. Wish I could have stayed longer...
- Moose (10/5): Relaxing Stay on Lake Atitlan - The location is great with awesome views of the lake and volcanos. The apartment is a good size with a very comfortable bed. There are shelves to place your bags, and there are hangers to hang up your clothes. The chairs in the room are super comfortable. The outdoor kitchen has a refrigerator and a two burner stove top. There is a coffee maker plus plenty of pans and dishes. There are two chairs, two loungers, and a picnic table outside. Lee and Elaine will let you do a load of laundry in their washer. The shower was enclosed with plenty of hot water. Shampoo and conditioner were provided. Recommended locking the door only because kayakers can't read and comprehend the sign for the banos next door.
- Emma (10/5): Great location , great property! - Great location right on the water. The location made it easy both to go into town , eat at local restaurants, visit other towns and rent kayaks.
Apartment itself was very clean and had a great aesthetic.
Would definitely recommend for a nice relaxing stay.
Kind hosts who were happy to help with anything. -
- Robbie (10/5): paradise on the lake. - the property is rite on the lake with kyak and sup rentals .the view of the volcanos is just awesome .the outdoor kitchen was perfect .it's a new cabin with lots of hot water and power outlets everywhere
I'm going to return in 2 weeks for another week. paradise man . everything was new ,nice place.
- Yuriy (10/5): beautiful, peaceful lake atitlan getaway - Friendly and responsive hosts, beautiful property. The views are incredible. Apt is comfortable and has all the amenities. Town doesn't have a lot of dining options but we found enough during our stay. Don't miss the last boat if you're visiting other towns, private ones are $$.
- Kaspars (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place, very clean, perfect location. Very friendly hosts. Also possible to rent kayaks for morning rides in lake Atitlan.
Be aware that not accessible by car.
- Marina (10/5): Definitely the best place to stay in Atitlàn! Super calm, charming, organized, clean and peaceful! Will definitely come - One of the best places I ever stayed! It is just incredibly amazing! It’s a million times better than the pictures!!! Lee and his wife were the kindest! The kitchen has everything you need! The place is peaceful and charming! I will definitely come back!
- Bob (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (9/5): You won't be disappointed - What a view! And the bed was so comfortable.
