Guest Reviews
- Anne (9/5): Fabulous holiday cottage. Perfect for rest and relaxation. - Everything.. beautiful cottage. Very clean. Lovely welcome pack.
Very comfortable. Beautiful bedrooms.
Gorgeous garden and surroundings.
Great living room with plenty to do and tv for the evenings. The downstairs bedroom is perfect. The upstairs bedroom was very comfortable too.
Gorgeous bath....
Great for dogs too. I want to bring my grandchildren too. Maybe next time. It was so sunny we would love to have had a parasol and a lounger or 2 to lie on outside.
- Tamzin (10/5): Fantastic we will certainly be back to stay again. - The property was really well presented and suited our need for relaxation and quiet time. Pack food and everything you need and have a lovely relaxing time. It is very very rural, it suited us completely but maybe too far away form amenities for others.

- Darryl (10/5): - Wonderful setting. Very comfortable and peaceful.
- Long (10/5): Perfectly relaxing get away in the perfect surroundings - Location , stunning secluded property, peaceful.
Everything you could possibly want to enjoy your stay inside . Small TV

- Ian (8/5): Lovely spot to escape to for our Mini-moon. - Stunning location, beautiful quiet spot to escape to after the chaos of a wedding!
Beautifully restored and well appointed cottage with high quality fixtures and fittings.
Spotlessly clean and comfortable with underfloor heating downstairs. No mention of the length or quality of the access road, not an issue in our car but worth noting.
Second gate would benefit from wheel support, quite heavy to use!
Sofas are not the most comfortable, and logic of light switches not very clear.
Very large toilet bowls!
- Paul (10/5): DEFINETLY USE AGAIN IF IN AREA - LOCATION, QUIET, PEACEFUL, WILD LIFE, GOOD WI FI, EXCELLENT CONDITION, DREAM HOUSE, CLEAN, ALL MOD CONS, MILK AND BISCUITS ON ARRIVAL, GREAT AREA TO WALK, DRIVING DISTANCE TO SHOPS/ PUBS ETC, NOT AN ISSUE WITH US BUT THE LONG TRACK DOWN THE VALLEY TO ACCOMADATION MIGHT NOT SUIT ALL SMALL LOW VECHICLES IN WINTER MONTHS
- Joshua (10/5): Scugdale Cottage is located down at long gravel track, set away from everything. It’s set on stunning grounds, both spaci - Scugdale Cottage was a great find. Located down a gravel track, you really feel away from everything. Lovely cottage, peaceful location and great value for money. There’s hardly anything to dislike about Scugdale Cottage.
- Ian (10/5): Relaxing with great access to local countryside and attractions - Excellent location well equipped all you need was there. Sturdy car needed to get from the road but that’s part of the attraction stunning property

- Ann (9/5): We felt so relaxed in an idyllic setting - The location was perfect, so peaceful and picturesque, beds were very comfortable, plenty of storage. The sofa and chairs were uncomfortable.
- Kate (10/5): A secluded gem - we felt welcomed and loved the tranquility of the location and the design of the accommodation: the wal - Stylish, lots of space, all the fixtures and fittings were of great quality
- Richard (10/5): Idilic holiday in peaceful North Yorkshire Moors - Beautiful tranquil location down it own track, excellently layout taking in the beauty from every window of the property.
Ground and gardens exquisitely maintained.
- Sharon (10/5): WOW WOW WOW - It was quite, peaceful and very relaxing The only thing that disappointed me was when we arrived we needed a cup of tea, plenty of teabags, coffee and sugar but no milk so ended up going the shop to get some. Lack of instructions to use appliances...but overall its the best we've stayed in
- Rosanne (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous house in gorgeous location. Perfectly quiet and isolated. Driveway down to the house was a bit scary.
- Allison (9/5): Fantastic secluded property, ideal base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors - Clean, spacious and secluded with a large garden.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - Lovely quiet area with woodland and moorland nearby. Riverside field all to ourselves for dogs to play. Upstairs room needed curtains and not ensuite. Some of interior design /chairs seemed mismatched.
- Mario (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing stay at Scugdale cottage, a place we would definitely want to visit again. The cottage is absolutely stunning and the surrounding area is beautiful. The only thing we would have changed would be the sofas in the living room, they are not very comfy for relaxing in the evening.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (9/5): Superb - beautiful location
- Kieran (8/5): Lovely week in total tranquility with everything you need. Just mind the sheep and don’t bring a low vehicle. - Very spacious, modern, high quality fixtures and fittings, plenty of outdoor space, had all amenities you could need, board games available, very private. Every cupboard and draw was like a treasure trove of things you may need. Roaming animals were very cute. Woodland walks around the site also enjoyable. Log fire a great feature. Needs a hot tub to really nail that wow factor. Drive to and from the lodge can become monotonous having to navigate a full flock of sheep and the rough terrain at very low speed. 4x4 advisable! Lack of attention to detail in cleaning. Cobwebs from eye level up and cutlery and glasses needed cleaning again before use. Some hand soap pumps were empty. Skylights could also do with debris clearing. Needs blackout curtains in downstairs bedroom and no curtains or blinds in upstairs bedroom at all. Design and decor of the place is lovely but slightly confused. Also no coat / towel hooks where you need them and some sockets were not of the standard type. Some of the windows also did not open. Light switches took guess work and sometimes operated lights out of view or in another area.
- Lisa (10/5): Perfect - Beautiful surroundings
Lovely property
Plenty of room
Dog friendly Liked everything
- Alan (9/5): Lovely cottage in peaceful location - Excellent property in lovely location. Plenty of space and quality finish.
Recommended tho’ little more TLC and attention to detail would make perfect.
- Taylor (9/5): Superb -
- Marianne (10/5): Heaven - The property was delightful. Remote and peaceful is just what we were looking for. The electric light switches
- Matthew (10/5): Hidden Gem on the Moors - Stunning house in a great location not too far from Pickering. Lovely and peaceful with all the amenities and outside space you could ever need. Highly recommend!
The hosts were brilliant, we accidentally left something behind and they posted it back to us for free, couldn't fault them. The light switches took a bit of getting my head around but it was fine after that!
- Toni (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful, peaceful, homely house. With all the amenities you needed. Beautiful grounds Everything was perfect for our family get away.
- Colin (9/5): Highly recommend this fabulous accommodation especially if if want to relax and unwind in a rural location. - Everything - As soon we settled in we decided to extend our stay. Fabulous modern accommodation, great quality fixtures and fittings. Paint and decor had an excellent finish. Super comfy beds.
- Christine (10/5): Your own little piece of gods country 💙💙 - This property is superb! Idyllic! It has everything you need and more for a self catering stay, beds comfortable & plenty of private space outside!!! No other property to be seen! Your own little piece of gods country xx The property is located away from the road about a quarter of a mile along a track, which we couldn’t drive due to snow & ice, we had to leave the car at the gate and walk it with all the luggage etc, and every time we went out, it is up & downhill wish we had known this really (would be ok with 4WD). I found the sofa & chairs to be uncomfortable and hard. A summer/spring stay would be brilliant and I’m hoping to come again.
- Steve (9/5): Great cottage and location - The cottage has been updated to a high standard and is very spacious. Its very isolated which we liked, North Yorks Moors are stunning. The location would not suit everyone. A more comprehensive welcome pack with info on the building would help. Little things like somewhere to hang coats near entrance, and proper coffee making facility (either French Press or machine) would be nice.
- Brian (10/5): Really enjoyable and relaxing New Year break with the Family. - Location great and quiet.
Quirky furniture which adds to the charm of the place.
Great for stargazing.
Really comfy massive bed.
Biggest toilet pans we have ever come across.
Great shower.
Broadband/WIFI
Lovely and warm in the winter.
Plenty of wildlife around.
Enjoyed the treats.
Loved the big Christmas tree.
Will definitely be back for another visit. Lack of backing trays.
Track from the road to the property has parts where low cars will scrape on the bottom if they stay in the track of previous vehicles in certain parts. (I have a standard focus not fully laden, and scraped the bottom of the car a couple of times, this was in the dark).
Lack of instructions for the heating and dishwasher. Thankfully the instructions can be found using a google search.
Light switches would be better if they had labels as there are many.
- Martine (10/5): Fabulous cottage with fabulous views - Beautiful views, spacious decorated to a quality standard .
- Hayley (10/5): A wonderful secluded luxury stay in the heart of the countryside -
