Guest Reviews
- Kristina (9/5): Superb - Staff were incredible. Food was fantastic- just be sure to place your order ahead. I didnt have any issue with noise from the balloons. Loved the garden! Such an oasis! Only thing I wish that could be improved is the shower situation/bathroom- shower didnt have a little step off or door so it would flood the whole floor albeit we were given a mop to push water away. The plumbing system is old and not well equipped for tissue so you have to toss it in the trash - not sure if its even feasible to modernize this but we dealt with it and were fine
- Asthana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Us (10/5): Nice except for the ridiculous amount she took for a bike ride - I loved the location of the hotel and the breakfast, it was so cute and lovely gardens… I didn’t like that I organised tours with the hotel as they charge 80% percent extra , I booked a tour of a bike and on get your guide it’s was 30 dollars for 3 hours but they can’t pick up at the hotel , so I organised with the owner of the hotel she took 160 dollars for an hour of a desert bike which was just about 10mins away so she ripped us off…
- Mohamed (2/5): Very poor -
- Ellen (10/5): Beautiful guest house with an amazing garden, warm welcome and great location. - A gem! The location is perfect for visiting the west bank and even better if you are planning a hot air balloon flight since the take off field is right next door. The garden is fantastic - a true oasis. Having breakfast here with the hot air balloons floating above is just heavenly. Samantha is very welcoming and accommodating, also helped arrange some transportation for us. Although there is no full kitchen on the premises, you can order a delicious dinner which they serve perfectly in the garden near fire pits. Very romantic!
- Sumeya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudio (10/5): Exceptional - The location is amazing… beautiful at the sunrise…. Beautiful garden … Samantha is so kind and everything’s I asked, she have answered so quickly… beautiful person Nearly the hotel there is nothing…. But if u want dinner in the garden the meal was so tasty
- Andrew (10/5): Wonderful and beautiful place with an amazing owner: Samantha - Beautiful B&B on the West Bank of Luxor. The sites could not be any closer. Samantha and her staff are wonderful. Relaxing in the gardens in the evening were major highlights.
- Bakalar (10/5): Great Location, Amazing Staff, Beautiful Hotel - Such a beautiful well taken care of Hotel with a genuinely kind, friendly and accommodating staff. We walked to some of the Tombs in the area. Nothing we didn’t like
- Gianluca (10/5): Exceptional - Design autentico Surrounding area
- Trung (7/5): Stunning property but disappointing service. - The location, the venue itself is beautiful. Helpful owner Samantha who was accommodating to my late arrival due to delayed flight. The property manager Taha and the staff. Unapproachable, unfriendly and intimidating. Not a smile once - they need to work on their customer service. Felt like it was a bother for Taha to help with anything with his grumpy face.
- François (10/5): Exceptional - Samantha, the owner of the Bab Al Samawy Hotel, is a wonderful host. She is always approachable, attentive to guests’ needs, and responds swiftly. The hotel staff are equally pleasant and efficient. The gardens are beautiful and offer a well-deserved moment of relaxation after a long day. Breakfasts are generous and delicious. A delightful discovery!
- Perry (10/5): Outstanding - Beautiful and beautifully run. Excellent help with our trip from Samantha. Amazing breakfast. Nothing not to like
- Emtiaz (10/5): A hidden gem in luxor - The property was beautiful and felt very authentic. It was next to the hot air balloon launch site which is a beautiful view at sunrise.
The oasis garden is the selling point. It is beautiful and is where breakfast is served.
Samantha the host is amazing. She organised all our tours, booked our restaurants and organised our taxi/travels. She made this trip very rememberable. I loved everything about the property and its secluded location. The only downside side is that there is nothing nearby as it is in the west bank. But that didnt impact or stopped us from enjoying luxor. Samantha organised food for us when we requested and taxis to the east bank.
- Hamish (10/5): Boutique stay with great staff - Boutique hotel with great staff.
Beautiful gardens and interiors.
Sam and all the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is delicious, made to order and there is plenty.
We booked a tour with a guide and driver. The driver is definitely worth it. We found that the guide had lots of information that he was happy to recount, but was unable to answer random questions that maybe were outside of his learning.
Bear in mind also the guide cannot enter the tombs with you.
We would recommend a driver, a good guide book and having data on your mobile so that you can look things up.
- Kristy (10/5): Perfect - The host made us so welcome as well as her staff. The garden is a hidden treasure.
- Edna (10/5): A soul-soothing oasis. - I loved the thought, the style the hospitality infused in this little oasis. Will definitely recommend and go back myself if I am ever in Luxor. Samantha, the owner was a fantastic host, helpful, responsive and just a great person to have a chat with.
- Alesha (10/5): Simply fantastic, would recommend to all! Beautiful hotel - Fantastic stay! We loved it all. Super comfy bed, hot shower, we stayed in a beautiful room with a balcony. Very private too. Couldn’t ask for a more fantastic hotel close to the hot air balloons. Was magical watching them from the balcony in the morning. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Samantha couldn’t have been more helpful- with absolutely everything!- food, drivers , recommendations etc. She really made our stay special. Will be recommending to stay here for anyone visiting Luxor Nothing!
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - What a great place to stay! Samantha and her team are very welcoming and super nice. The accommodation and the garden are stunning. Our room was large and clean. The breakfast is plentiful and served in the garden. Getting up at sunrise snd watching the balloons take of is a wonderful experience. Unfortunately we only had one night, but it was a highlight of our trip to Egypt.
- Eckart (10/5): Wonderful stay - would definitely come back. - Great property and location. The rooms and beds are comfortable and the garden is wonderful. We also enjoyed the food. Service and friendliness if staff and owner were exceptional. Liked everything.
- Maulidin (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandra (10/5): Magic on earth - What a magical place on the earth. I would book this place over and over again. The view from the rooftop, from the early morning hot air balloon launch to the sun going down over Valley of the kings, gave us some of our most beautiful memories from our 2 months in Egypt.
The rooms are huge and very comfortable, the team were so friendly and cooked us breakfast which we had in the garden every morning, and there isn’t a bad angle in the whole property. We also loved having a late night fire with a beer in the garden watching the stars came out. Absolutely incredible.
Thank you for the magic Nothing
- Esraa (9/5): Superb -
- Dustin (10/5): Oasis im front of the valley - It is like an oasis in front of the valley. Amazing garden, view and breakfast with nice staff. Perfect to start into the day and relax after lots of sightseeing. Great host, I can tottally recommend to stay there.
- Štěpán (10/5): Oasis in hot Luxor West Bank - Samantha, the owner, did a fantastic job. Absolutely tastefully reconstructed old village houses provide with perfecfly relaxed atmosphere, plus the awsome garden with overall aroma of basil! It is hard to leave the place for sightseeing because the place by itslef is a sight!
For some people the hot baloon starts early in the morning right next to the hotel may be disturbing, but we enjoyed observing this colorful game and traffic around the baloon flughts.
- Tracy (9/5): Beautiful place to stay. - It’s beautiful. Very clean. Samantha the owner is so attentive and makes time to check on you regularly
To ensure you have everything you need. It doesn’t have a kitchen yet for cooking meals but I know that is coming soon. Could do with a pool and some sun loungers to relax on.
- Chioma (10/5): Exceptional - The garden!!! The breakfast spread! The grounds are stunning
- Mohamed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (10/5): It was a wonderful stay. We really loved it! - The location, the Staff, the property, and the owner Samantha. Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): Lucky us - We stayed in 4 hotel/apartments during our time in Egypt all with a rating of plus 9, this was the only one that should-have 9 plus rating.
Breakfast in the beautiful garden was perfect, the ordered dinners in the evening we top quality, I cannot remember staying in a finer place with better food and service, with the mess of Luxor this place was very welcome for peace and place to relax. Great location for the Valley of the Kings visit. Rooms we beautiful, so much effort put in the details, in the morning you can watch the balloons go up from the roof, we loved it and the people.
- Leah (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - Bab Al Samawy is beautiful guesthouse in Luxor.
Owned by Samantha, a personable and knowledgeable English expat, who’s assisted by small but attentive staff, it was an oasis of calm and serenity. After visiting some of Luxor’s crowded historic sites, we were happy to relax and read in the lush garden there, and to take our evening meal under the stars and next to the fire bowl.
Situated on Luxor’s west bank very near the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Hatshepsut Temple, and other monuments, Bab Al Samawy is ideally located for exploring these treasures of antiquity, but also its own quiet little world.
Everything here was put together with a designer’s eye, and was of great quality, from the nice soap and thick cotton towels to the beautiful bed linens to the delicious, fresh food. Samantha also arranged for everything we needed, including taxi rides and our hot-air balloon excursion, from carefully vetted local companies. (The balloons take off from the field behind the guesthouse, so even if you opt not to ride one, you can catch the awe-inspiring sight of dozens of the colorful balloons rising into the air from the roof terrace at dawn.)
It was so serene and relaxing, and very reasonably priced; I wish we could have stayed longer. If you’re planning to visit this part of Egypt anytime soon, I wholeheartedly recommend booking a stay here.
- Reddy (10/5): Great ! - The view ! It is so close to the valley of kings and ofcourse the hot air balloon site !!
And they garden is exceptionally beautiful
Samantha ans tahoe were welcoming and sweet ! Had a great time Nothing that I dislike.
- Yasmin (10/5): Best stay in Egypt! - The property is incredibly cozy and welcoming! The rooms are beautifully appointed, and the stunning garden is the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious breakfast each morning while watching the balloons drift by. Our host, Samantha, was absolutely wonderful—she went above and beyond to ensure we felt completely comfortable. I can’t wait to come back! The Wi-Fi connection isn’t very strong in the area, but this is a common issue in the region and didn’t bother us much.
- Olena (10/5): It’s memory forever 🥰 - It was amazing stay! We enjoyed, still under great emotion! No any complaints, it’s great hotel
- Samer (10/5): One of the best -
- Aswathi (10/5): A dreamy & exceptional stay. Can't wait to come back! - Where to begin!
1. The stunning property - the place is truly dreamy and felt like a cultural immersion with all the comfort and convenience.
2. The exceptional customer service from Samantha & team - Right from after making the reservation till checkout, Samantha took care of everything for us. From providing recommendations and tips for our travels to making Luxor tour bookings to arranging tranfers to/from Luxor to dinner reservations to cab bookings.....we didn't have to worry about anything! She was always just a text away and made sure we were happy and comfortable every step along the way which goes a long way in terms of making you feel at home in a new place. The rest of the staff was also so professional and friendly. They took care of every little detail with so much warmth.
3. The location - the property is close to all the west bank attractions (which has more attractions) and made our very ambitious west bank day feel like a breeze.
4. The food - we loved all the meals we had at the property because they tasted so fresh and home made. The breakfast falafels were to die for - my husband has been raving about them since.
5. The morning views from the room and the garden - the hot air balloons take off from right next to the property so waking up to that view and having that view as the breakfast view is another incredibly dreamy aspect of the property that requires a special shout out. We honestly loved everything and can't wait to come back one day. Only recommendation I have is to consider having some backup, standlone heaters for the rooms during winters, for those who might need it. I was ok, especially after getting into bed. But my husband felt cold at nights and a small heater could have done the trick without making it too hot in the room.
- Anne-sybille (10/5): Just amazing - We had an amazing stay! The place, the garden more especially, is stunning. Samantha is the great host, one of the best service we had in Egypt, with great recommendations
- Mirella (10/5): My Heavenly Place in Egypt ❤️ - When you get trough the "Bab Al Samawy" (the Heaven Door) you will find a peaceful paradise in the Egyptian chaos.
We loved soooo much to enjoy his superb garden at every time of the day.
The location is perfect to visit the west bank and it's close to the Luxor Hot Air Balloon spot, so you can't miss this exciting experience!
And Samantha is the best host I ever met, she kindly cuddled us since we made the reservation, organizing for us all the sightseeing excursions. She also set a wonderful New Year's Eve Dinner in the garden with the fire bowls. Loved it!
After rushing around all the ancient Egypt wonders, you can finally have some days of relax in this heaven.
- Esther (9/5): Lovely stay in Luxor - The facilities especially the garden was really lovely, a different type of stay in a peaceful corner of Luxor. The location is great for the West Bank, Valley of the King etc. and for the hot air balloon and even just for viewing them take off, though ear plugs needed for light sleepers. Samantha and the rest of the staff were very helpful and accommodating everything you might need. Breakfast was nice, maybe could do with a few more variety and fresh teas, and tasty dinners can be ordered through the hotel from a local restaurant. No complaints really.
- Daniel (10/5): An oasis of delight! The best hotel, nicely hiden from the noise and traffic, a joy beyond. - Everything - the most wonderful piece of heaven on the West Bank. The garden is simply a wonderful gift to the eyes and filled with flowers and vegetables. The birds and the vivid colours, the sun and the trees. Just simply the place i would like yo return over and over again when in Luxor! Bravo Samantha
- Abhishek (10/5): Exceptional - Very beautiful property, with the owner being super super helpful, samantha is the best, helped us in everything we needed
Right on the hot air balloon takeoff site, with best views of the balloon flying
Very very good boutique property
- James (10/5): Quite exceptional. The highlight of our visit to Egypt. - The highlight of our visit to Egypt! Bab Al Samawy translates as 'Gateway to Heaven' and this just about sums up this exceptional property! It is a green and pleasant, quiet oasis with a garden filled with flowers and birds in an otherwise arid landscape. Comfortable seating is provided throughout the large garden, divided into discrete 'rooms', where one can relax and where breakfast is served. The house itself is simply but tastefully furnished: enjoy the large rooms with large comfortable beds and quality towels and linen. Samantha, the owner, applies her high English standards to presentation and cleanliness. The staff are helpful and delightful.
There is a large roof terrace with wonderful views to the Valley of the Kings: the location is adjacent to the vast hot air balloon site where the early morning balloons are launched. Ignore the short, mild disruption and instead view the breathtaking, wonderful sight of massed balloons taking off as the sun rises.
Visit the small Mummification Museum in Luxor BEFORE you visit anything else. Instead of a macabre museum it beautifully and clearly describes and gives an understanding of all the actions you will see in the tableaux of the tombs you subsequently visit.
Bab Al Samawy is located on the quieter west bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings, and a short taxi ride to busy Luxor itself on the east side. The Tombs of the Nobles and the Tombs of the Workers, although less well known, are well worth visiting and are within easy walking distance from the house. Howard Carter's House is also close by and again most interesting and has a complete reconstruction of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Samantha arranged reliable taxis and helpful guides throughout our stay and recommended excellent places to eat nearby as well as in Luxor itself. Frankly, you are missing out if you don't stay here!
- Dylan (10/5): Beautiful views of the hot air balloons and very nice staff - I thought the location was amazing. It is close to most of the tourist spots, but the best part is that it is right next to the launch site for the hot air balloons. These go up really early in the morning, so all you have to do is wake up on time and you can immediately see them, either from your window, the rooftop of the hotel, or near the hotel's garden area (you can have some free tea and coffee there as well, courtesy of the hotel). The view of seeing the balloons go up and fill the sky is tremendous (and in my opinion better than going in the balloons yourself). Based on this alone, this hotel is actually a highlight to visit during your trip to the area and it was one of our favorite points during our Egypt trip. I even joked with my partner that we shouldn't leave a review to keep this place more hidden!
The staff is also very kind and helpful, the hotel is new and clean, and the communal garden area is tranquil and relaxing. You can also order food to be delivered to the hotel via the hotel staff, who will then prepare a table for you in the garden, which was a very nice plus. Honestly, this was the best hotel during our Egypt visit. Probably only negative is that because of the adobe walls (which are more thick), the WiFi can sometimes be a bit spotty. This is not a bad thing if you have your own mobile data, but something to keep in mind if you're relying on WiFi during your trip. Also, because of the vicinity to the hot air balloon site, it can get quite loud in the morning, but honestly, you'd probably want to be awake at this time regardless at that time to see the sights.
- Six (9/5): Charming boutique experience, will recommend! - Beautiful rooms and garden, great breakfast, warm reception by Samantha and overall a very well kept and managed property. Will happily recommend to friends, family and colleagues. The location right next to the hot air balloons creates a lot of noise very early in the morning.
- Marius (10/5): Beautiful garden - The garden is just beautiful and we enjoyed tasty breakfast and dinner while sitting in this green oasis. In the morning, there were countless hot air balloons taking off next to the house which was an incredible view, I never saw something like this before. The house itself is in great condition and tastefully decorated. Nothing. We liked it so much, we came back for another night.
- Anne (10/5): A wonderful quiet hotel with fantastic views, we really enjoyed our stay here and would come back. - Beautiful property with fantastic views to the Valley of Kings
- Aleksandr (10/5): If I could, I’d give “11” ⭐️ - This place is gorgeous! Beautifully designed, with comfortable rooms and lovely garden 🪴
Samantha is incredible owner. She answered hundreds of our questions 24/7 🙈, helped with transfers, food and gave us a lot of good advices.
And all staff were great and super friendly too!
The breakfast was really delicious!
Finally, the hotel is the best place in Luxor to watch hot air baloons 💙
100% recommend! Be ready to take taxi/transfer almost all the time you r going somewhere, but it’s absolutely worth it!
And I guess, in Luxor you'll need to take taxi anyway 🚗
- Noemi (10/5): Unforgettable Stay on the West Bank - We were absolutely delighted with everything.
Every detail reflects the immense care and effort Samantha has put into this place. The house itself is stunning, ideally located on the West Bank, just a stone's throw from the Valley of the Kings. Each morning, breakfast was a true delight, served in the serene garden, where every detail—from the elegant tableware to the quality and freshness of the ingredients—was thoughtfully considered, better than a five-star hotel. The sight of hot air balloons drifting over the rooftops at sunrise was nothing short of magical. Samantha is a wonderful host, a true sweetheart who made us feel at home with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering attentiveness. The staff were equally fantastic, always greeting us with a smile. We can't wait to return! Nothing
- Stacie (10/5): The most incredible short stay! - Everything about this property was incredible. It is so incredibly gorgeous. The aesthetic, the garden, the views from the rooftop. The management and staff was great and so easy to communicate with. Our entire itinerary for our stay was booked through Bab al Samawy, which made it very easy and smooth sailing for us during our stay! Breakfast was absolutely delicious and generous. I highly recommend Bab Al Samawy to anyone planning to visit luxor. It is quite loud early morning - since it is on the hot air balloon take off site.. However, you are provided with quality ear plugs which is great!!! and the view from the rooftop of the hot air balloons taking off makes the noise worth it.
- Gertrud (10/5): Best value for money in Luxor - Having stayed at a luxury hotel, a low cost one, and a private residence, Bab Al Samawy comes up on top with by far best value for money, and best service. The rooms are clean, the hospitality and communication is on point, the gardens are lovely and breakfast is complete. Added bonus: an experience to see 50+ balloons launching at dawn. N/A
- Benedetta (10/5): Perfect because of the people, and the place. - Everything Nothing
- Eddie (9/5): Excellent property. Great location, peaceful. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a stay in the area. Lovely owner - Location, peaceful garden area, attentive staff, good comms with owner.
- D (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tomás (10/5): Super comfortable, amazing hospitality and very nice views - The place is super beautiful, the staff are very friendly and Samantha is a sweet heart! The bed is very comfortable, the sheets and pillows as well! The place has amazing views, especially for the rise of the balloons during sunrise. Breakfast also fantastic! 100% recommend Nothing, all great!
- Portia (10/5): An exceptional experience - From the moment I checked in, the hosts’ Samantha and manager’s warm welcome settled me in so quickly, it was a feeling of coming home. A lovely big room awaited me with cool air circulating it. The tranquility and vast colours of the garden made for a beautiful dinner/lunch/breakfast setup. The food was fresh and tasty, breakfast was my highlight, made to perfection by the hosts. At dusk, the garden is lit with enchanting lights. Samantha provided me with a candle and outdoor lamp for me to continue my book read. I lacked nothing. If you want a place where it is you and the sounds nature with good wifi, away from the buzz of the city, I highly recommend Bab Al Samawy. My bed was so lush and comfortable, I will definitely book again. Nothing.
- Akemi (10/5): Exceptional hospitality ! - I had an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, They went above and beyond to ensure I felt right at home. The suite with a terrace boasted breathtaking views that truly took my breath away every sunrise. But what truly set this experience apart was Samantha's incredible hospitality. Not only did she cook delicious traditional Egyptian meals for dinner, but each morning, breakfast on the terrace under the orange tree was a delight, with the sun casting a warm glow over the entire garden. This is a place I'll cherish forever, thanks to Samantha's exceptional care and the unforgettable moments I experienced here.
