Guest Reviews
- All & Fab (1/5): - We spent a sleepless night on the Falouka. It was extremely noisy, which kept us awake all night. Furthermore, the boat was very dirty, especially the toilets, which were in an unacceptable state. The sink didn't even have a faucet. We had to sleep on a very questionable mattress, without even a pillow for comfort.
Breakfast also left a lot to be desired: we only had one egg and a portion of lukewarm Laughing Cow, which was definitely not enough.
Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay and do not recommend this establishment.
Above all, don't forget to bring mosquito repellent, as there are no mosquito nets either. Very disappointed and very expensive for a sleepless night.
- Daihao (9/5): - 位置绝佳,在老瀑布酒店对面,吹着尼罗河的晚风睡觉很舒服。船长特别热情,可以在能力范围内满足你的一切要求 蚊虫稍多,电源和洗漱相对不是太方便
- Ashleigh (7/5): We absolutely loved our stay and thought it was a unique experience. The host was easy going and hospitable, however com - We loved the location of our stay as the host sails you over to sleep around the cliff side of Elephantie island. In the morning we were given a spectacular view of the Nile and Aswan. We also enjoyed how the host gives you the entire Felucca for the night and sleeps over at the dock in Aswan. The host was also very lovely on arrival. I was sick and he went and got us free health juices from a cafe he works at by the doc. The boat’s facilities and cleanliness were what we expected from photos and reviews.
Although we loved our stay, there were a couple of dislikes. One being that the mosquitoes at night were extremely bad so either cover up, use bug spray or some sort of anti-mosquitoe light etc. Also, the host was quite a challenge to get a hold of. We needed to leave the next day to explore and we had messaged him a few times, but no reply. He had still not come to collect us at 11:30 so we had to improvise and wave down a different boat to collect us.
- Rosa (8/5): Unfiltered and wonderful felucca experience - Staying at Farah Camp (not a hotel or guest house, a felucca!) can be described as an unfiltered felucca experience with its positive and negative aspects. Let's start from the highlight, Mahmoud, an incredibly nice and smiling young man who is the captain, cook and tour operator of the boat. His positive energy will make your day! The felucca is directly on the Nile, just next to the Makani restaurant, and so, pretty conveniently located. We stayed two nights in Aswan as we did not want to leave the city, but you can arrange with them if you want to move. If you stay in Aswan, ask to move to another quieter location to sleep, as the original location can get pretty noisy overnight.
For us it was the first experience on a felucca and we loved it. Having a coffee on the sundeck, slowly sailing down the Nile, or just looking out on the river life was a remarkable experience. There is a small stove on the boat, so Mahmoud can make you coffee or tea, or even cook you a dinner or lunch. The felucca has electricity, enough to charge your phone, but we would recommend to take a charged power bank. We loved the experience, yet, if you are new to this and you want to make the best of it, you should consider it almost as a camping in nature. Warm blankets are provided, but you might want to take with you some sheets or sleeping bag liner as you will be sleeping on the same mattress/couch where you spend your day and where everybody goes by. We would also recommend to bring a towel as these are also not provided. There is no running water, so if you have, bring a filtering bottle to use the Nile water to brush your teeth or for other purposes. A toilet is available on the boat, it is very basic and functional. Shower? What's better than the river itself!
As the felucca is open, you will not be able to lock your valuables, but Mahmoud says it is safe. We never had any issues and we never felt unsafe.
