Guest Reviews
- Yurie (8/5): -
- Ai Mi (1/5): - Nothing One of the worst stays of my life. The room felt like a boiler room, unbearably hot to the point I barely slept at all. There was supposedly “air conditioning,” except every staff member gave a completely different story. One said engineering didn’t think it was warm enough to turn it on. Another claimed it was already on. Another told me to wait until after the holiday because it would only be turned on Tuesday. Nothing ever changed. Nothing ever changed.
Then they asked me to fill out a form to change rooms, only for another staff member to later admit the entire building had the same issue. So why waste my time pretending a room change would solve anything? Absolutely no communication, no accountability, and no real effort to fix the problem.
The room itself was also terrible. The toilet flush barely worked and constantly left waste in the bowl. No hair dryer. No tissues. But honestly, none of that even compares to the heat. A hotel’s bare minimum responsibility is providing a room where guests can actually sleep. I paid to rest, not to sweat through the night feeling trapped in a furnace.
Completely unacceptable experience. I would never stay here again.

- StrongBow (5/5): - Location was good, price was attractive. I experienced three hot days and the the air conditioning didn't cope. Even when it cooled outside, the room stayed unbearably hot all night.
- Cristian Ariel (2/5): The heating was so high that it was impossible to be in the room - La ubicación, el precio.

- Fred (8/5): Great location - The Staff were great. It's right on campus and near transit. The showers in the bathrooms were good. I know this is a university residential expectations are not high. But I am comparing to another residence I stayed in earlier in the week. The bed was not very comfy, and the air conditioner in the room did not work very well. When the sun came up in the morning the room got really hot, and it was only like 10 degrees outside, so I can imagine what it will be in the summer.

- TAKEHIKO (8/5): -
- Kuei-Fen (6/5): - No AC
- Hayley (2/5): - I had low expectation coming here in the first place, and it was worse than expected. Entire place smelled, sheets on bed had stains on them, showers were disgusting, beds are incredibly uncomfortable and loud when you move even slightly. I know it’s not an expensive place to stay, but for over a $100/night, I would expect a little bit better. One plus was staff was incredibly friendly.
- Eric (10/5): - Nice, simple and convenient spot
- Kenneth (10/5): - Good location and we have a very clean facilities.
- Pocharapong (8/5): Good value in a nice location - The room is nice with desk for work. There are both male and female in the same floor.
- Raymond (3/5): Disappointed - Location The rug on the floor was smelling and the bathroom was far off in some corner. I had allergies due to the stinky floor.
I never stayed here at 45 Willcoks. I prefer 40 Willcoks.
Hundreds of children were staying on campus.
I couldn't get another room in the other building.
That smelling rug needs to go.
- Janet (6/5): - The check in process was complicated. The place was fairly clean, but the mouse traps threw me for a loop. I guess that is normal for a big city?
- Joseph (8/5): Very good - Location
Value for money
Toilets and showers cleaned daily Remember to take your key card when you get up in the middle of the night to use the washroom.
You'll be locked out of both your room and washroom.
- Anna (6/5): Pleasant -
- Thales (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ahmad (5/5): Passable -
- Gabriel (10/5): One night perfect - For a one night stay it is perfect
- Yesenia (1/5): Bad - Location No air conditioning for 6 days
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandre (8/5): - Inexpensive but safe option near downtown Toronto with great public transport. It's a university dorm room so it's not fancy, and the bathroom is down the hall, but he building is well kept and the staff is friendly.
- Edmon (10/5): Best value that is better than a shared hostel - Convenient location close to downtown. Right across from the trolley that takes you to downtown, Union Station, and other major destinations. Easy walking distance to nearby restaurants. Friendly staff, who were very understanding and accommodating when my flight was cancelled, and I was lucky enough to get the last available room that night. Good value for the money and better than a shared hostel room, since you get your own private room and bed. Great security since it is a major university campus.
- Dhriti (6/5): - Front desk morning staff were not the most hospitable and the water in shower rooms wasnt
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolas (10/5): - Great!
- Monica (7/5): Good - The toilets were always dirty
- Cheryl (10/5): - Wilson Hall Residence is exactly what it claims to be: a university residence. It is clean, safe, comfortable, and affordable. It's a great place to base a visit to Toronto.
- Florencio (9/5): Superb - Location Location Location :)
- Filcan (8/5): Very good -
- Jason (7/5): Good -
- Tami (9/5): Superb -
- Danilo (9/5): Nice and cozy - It was close to everything Nothing
- Bagherian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Talha (7/5): Good -
- Oleh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alaya (10/5): - Convenient and beautiful neighborhood.
- Keith (10/5): - First it needs to be stated that this is a university residence, not a hotel -- if you want the whole luxury hotel experience (spa, gym, room service, chocolate on your pillow, etc) this isn't the place to stay. But if you just want a comfortable bed and a quiet, private room, this is ideal.
The bed was certainly comfortable, and the rooms (and the whole residence) is clean and tidy. A wardrobe and dresser is provided, as well as a desk (it's a student residence, after all). There are washrooms on each floor (with showers), and guests have access to a kitchen and the laundry room.
This is probably the least expensive place to stay in Toronto (other than a hostel, where rooms are shared with others) -- in fact, the price is exceptional.
The front desk staff are warm and welcoming, and ready to answer any questions.
When and if I come to Toronto again, I will absolutely be staying here.
- Ammar (8/5): Very good -
- Beaudry (8/5): Very good -
- ChernLoong (10/5): - Friendly reception. Quiet and safe place.
- Bradley (10/5): - A simple dorm room with shared bathroom facilities but is clan, quiet, and private. An amazing deal for central Toronto.
- Tian (7/5): Good -
- Jaime (8/5): Very good -
- Felipe (9/5): Good location for the price you pay - Amazing location. Good price! Staff needs more training
- Larry (8/5): - Great price, quiet and clean. Bed not too comfortable. Washrooms a far walk down the hall, not too great for middle of the night. Recommended parking garage a distance away and the machine wouldn't allow me to pay past 6am for the next day.
- Ferdous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Brian (10/5): Great value and a great location - Easy walking distance from a number of attractions/places to eat/visit.
- Nazir (2/5): - Pretty poorly kept place. Yeah on the hallway, weird smell in the kitchen, creaky beds. Two of the three shared showers (probably shared among 30-40 guests!) were unusable.
Nice people in the front desk but generally less informed than one would expect.
- Meredith (8/5): - Student dorm room with bed, desk, (nasty) desk chair, with free access to washroom, showers, and kitchen. Other guests were respectful and friendly. Bikeshare bikes available right outside the building. Easy to walk to streetcar and busses - public transportation.
Would consider staying again. Thanks from Iowa, USA.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good budget stay!
- Daniele (8/5): - Great being on the campus of UofT. Easy access to public transportation. Beds are not the most comfortable but its manageable for a few days.
- Balram (9/5): would like to stay again - room was very decent. i liked it. connecting wifi was very complicated and frustrating
- Ken (2/5): New College Residence must act like a hotel to avoid disappointing guests & overworking students. - - Good location in UofT St. George campus, close to Chinatown and Kensington.
- Staff are just students, and they're doing a wonderful job with what they're given (please be nice to them). - The bed is hard, and the sheets were dirty (not much of a duvet either).
- Only one bathroom on each floor for each gender, which can be very far for some rooms.
- Showers don't provide shampoo and body wash (the soap bar provided in the room is insufficient).
- There should be better signage to direct new guests to the welcome desk at 40 Willcocks St for check-in. Specifically, put the signs on the main entrance (where the stairs lead up to) and not just on the ground-level side door. Or specify in the booking details to let guests know.
Students working at the Welcome Desk for a student residence are being made to serve as hotel concierges and are subjected to the higher demands that hotel guests naturally have. The poor quality of service, NOT of the staff but of the rooms, bathrooms, and how the check-in location is not at 45 Willcocks but is also not communicated, leads to disappointed guests who lash out at these very students who are trying their best to keep up with a lot more than they asked for. Either provide better services and more staff to handle the responsibilities of being a hotel or stay a university residence.
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional -
- Timothy (9/5): Superb -
- Sukla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (6/5): - Close to downtown Toronto and cheap.
if you have bad luck, your room is either directly in front of the bathroom and you have noise the entire night or your room is far away and you have to walk almost 50 m to go in middle of the night to the bathroom.
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Diane (8/5): Very good - Location & price Workmen noisy outside my door, inside, at 8 A.M.
- Drom (2/5): - bed was very hard like a rocj. folded cardboards with a sheet on it
- Quinn (8/5): - The location is good and enjoyed the campus. However the transportation system is always delayed.
- Helena (5/5): Passable -
- Zahra (6/5): Unclean - easy check-in and check out
great location, walkable to almost everything, safe
beds are not too uncomfortable the dorms are not clean at all therefore I would not stay here again
- Daniel C (8/5): - Im only using for the nights only im out all day so it is great and cheap and great location.
