Katie (3/5): Derelict building, felt very unsafe. - Inside, the apartment was quite comfortable with a large living/kitchen area, bedroom and bathroom. Photographs on the listing are accurate. The kitchen was relatively well-equipped, but lacking a microwave or toaster. Once we'd got in and got the heating on, the rooms stayed warm as long as we kept all the interior doors open and wedged a blanket under the front door to keep the draft out. Plentiful bedding towels and blankets were provided. The location is not as advertised. It is much further out of town and away from the gondola. The apartment is situated in what I can only describe as a derelict building (the very much closed down Hotel Narcis). Located on the fourth floor, the lifts are not working as the main building doesn't appear to have electricity and lighting is very poor. Sockets and light switches are hanging off the wall throughout, and it looks like radiators have been removed. The main building is not heated and it was freezing in the public areas. There is broken furniture, dust and building materials in every corridor on every floor. The old restaurant, bar and reception areas are abandoned, dirty and dusty. The listing states 24 hour security. This is not the case. Entry to the building is via a door with a code lock, but the lock has been taped up so anyone can enter the building. We did not see any other humans in our week there, no other rooms appeared to be occupied except for one on the ground floor. We felt very unsafe staying in this building. Having booked it after our original accommodation, also arranged through booking.com, had no record of our booking on arrival, we had little choice but to stay here in an emergency in peak season. There is definitely not an airport shuttle! The oven did not work. We did not report this to the owner as we didn't feel safe having anyone turning up to enter the apartment and fix it.
