Guest Reviews
- Martin (10/5): Calico’s was perfect for us, great location within an hour drive from most attractions, quiet, clean and priced right, a - Location The road- very bumpy
- Victoria (10/5): Absolutely love this place and the people that work there - The location for adventures is perfect. We did zip lining right there at the resort. We did the ATM cave tour which only took 25 minutes to drive to. We did the 1000 foot Falls and Caracol and some Tod the pools- all close by. The drive in feels sketchy and the road is horrible with bumps and holes -it’s a dirt road so be prepared. And when u r about to turn around thinking this can’t be it- just keep going and the property is so beautiful and peaceful and the people are so genuine and kind The dirt road is the only bad thing I can say.
- Jessica (9/5): Little cabins across the water in a great location :) - Super cool little place with individual cabins. Staff picks you up in a pontoon boat since it’s not accessible by car. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Offered suggestions on food we could order and have delivered. If we stayed longer, they have fishing poles available and the sweetest dogs (I’m an animal person so a property open to animals has my support) Also it’s incredibly close to the airport for those needing a place to stay when arriving or the night before an early flight. Nothing against the property, all in all it’s a cool place. Just have bug spray. I didn’t bring any and I got bit up like crazy. lol. That’s my fault though for not bringing any.

- Christine (10/5): - Found in better quality and shape then assumed.
- Ben (9/5): -

- Lindsay (8/5): Remote and Relaxing - Lovely jungle surroundings. Great staff, especially Julio. We participated in two activities through the resort: cave canoeing and zip lining, both were great. Nice accommodations and bird and butterfly watching. Strong WiFi. Appreciated the filtered water. Very rough road for a few miles leading up to the resort. Nearby restaurants very limited, really only one within ten minutes. A few additions would make a big difference: shampoo/conditioner in rooms and a cooktop so you can cook in the kitchenette (then the dining options wouldn’t be that big of a deal),
- Derrick (9/5): We’d gladly stay again! - Calico Jack’s Resort was AWESOME — such a fun, unforgettable stay. The setting is beautiful, the vibe is laid-back, and the staff was friendly and helpful from start to finish. It felt like the perfect “adventure + relax” spot.
The highlight for us was the ziplining — absolutely AMAZING. The course was exciting, the views were incredible, and the guides were professional, safe, and made the whole experience even more fun.
If you’re coming to this area and want something unique with an adventure feel, Calico Jack’s is a great choice. We’d gladly stay again! NOTHING - everything was great!!
- Bas (10/5): -
- Petra (9/5): - Sehr freundliches Personal. Zip-Lining war auper. Sehr hübsche Unterkunft mitten im Regenwald. Duschgel und Cremes im Bad fehlen. Bei 2 Übernachtungen gab es kein Room Cleaning.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional staff - The staff were exceptionally nice and couldn’t do enough for you. There are plenty of activities on site and additional activities off site can also be booked through the property. Great for wildlife spotting such as toucans and hummingbirds. A perfect place for nature lovers and sustainable travellers-the property runs off solar power.
- Pieter Cornelis Jan (8/5): -
- Jochem (10/5): Paradijsje in volle rust - Heerlijke plek.
- Meghan (10/5): Highlight of the trip! - The setting of this hotel is absolutely spectacular. The layout of the property and the way that they conserved the jungle makes it the most beautiful property we’ve ever stayed at. We stayed at the resort one day to do the zip line and swing, and my family thought that was the highlight of the trip. They have also done a tremendous job of staffing and we enjoyed everyone who worked there. We often sat around chatting with staff for hours and we adored everyone. Nothing. We loved the natural surroundings.
- Mateusz (10/5): Perfect spot for those who want to recharge in nature #slowtravelling - We loved the peace and quiet and the jungle. Food was delightful! Good people, good food, good vibe 🌴
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional hotel with respectful and helpful staff -
- Staszak (2/5): Disappointing and moldy - It was at a beautiful location-the jungle was gorgeous. The rooms smelled strongly of black mold and the swimming pool wasn’t chlorinated, was green and full of algae.
- Gerda (7/5): Good - Very friendly staff. They helped organize a gorgeous birthday cake. The unique elevator was fun. The scorpion in the bathroom
- Jurgen (9/5): A great jungle retreat. Great lodging, facilities, and nature. There is good bird viewing. - Rustic and very comfortable. Good and fresh food and drinks. Better signs to find Calico Jack´s.
- Lori (10/5): I would highly recommend this location . The atmosphere, the employees, food and location to the Mayan ruins. I also res - We loved being immersed in in the jungle environment. The property was so beautiful and super clean and landscaped nicely. All of the employees were friendly and went above and beyond to keep us comfortable . We arrived well after dinner and Maria and staff accommodated us with a lovely dinner. Flexible with transportation for our round trip arrival and departure home. We loved it!
- Rostislav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Avery (8/5): Great for birds and nature - Great stay, nice birds and the best fried jack in the world (seriously, get it for bfast). It was quiet and the hosts were wonderful, very attentive staff. Saw a Northern Pootoo and other excellent birds. Mosquitos were rough on the trails in the wet season! No dinner service (might just be off season), but town is close by.
- Suzanne (9/5): Superb - Staff were really friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to ensure we had everything we might need Some facilities have seen better days e.g. pool and basketball court.
Paid facilities such as ziplining are quite expensive
- Lisa (10/5): Great value and amazing staff - Staff were friendly and helpful, food was amazing and the location was great. Belize is an amazing place to visit. Nothing
- Helena (8/5): Very good -
- Bb (10/5): Beautiful and serene getaway with awesome adventures packed in. - This was an amazing gem of a place! The staff were so welcoming and lovely, the location is tucked away in a magical part of the jungle, the rooms were really spacious and comfortable, and the food was fantastic. Our family of 5 (with 3 teenage kids) loved it. It's remote but so worth it if you are looking for peace and quiet. Our organized tours were also awesome. Only good things to say!! Nothing, it was wonderful!
- Vic (8/5): Very good -
- Andrea (10/5): I would stay here again! - The location was quiet. The food was wonderful. The service, especially Maria and Joselyn, were exceptional. They went out of their way to accommodate our meals even with our crazy schedule. They were such nice people! The room was nice and clean and much larger than I expected from seeing the pictures. Not due to any fault of their own, Belize is currently struggling with wildfires, so the smoke and ash has put a damper on some things. The smoke comes and goes throughout the day.
- Nancy (7/5): Plusses and Minuses, but would return - Beautiful outdoor space, nice pool, could hear the hollers, spotted a toucan. Really enjoyed Julio. The shower was terrible, the restaurant food was uneven, no AC in restaurant and apparently no standing fans.
- Sean (2/5): I can’t think of anyone or any situation I would recommend this place - The concept was great. The grounds were nice. On arrival we were asked to sign a waiver saying we wouldn’t go anywhere on the property without supervision. We felt more like we were at a strict grandparents house. The staff was not friendly and the food ,was terrible. No bottled water, staff most of the time unavailable. Was not a very good experience. Roads to facility in very poor shape. We were the only guests there other than the owner, who we never saw. Just felt like we had broken into someone’s house that didn’t have any supplies.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Louis (9/5): friendly accommodating professional staff Marie, Jose, Jocelyn, and the best zip line guides William and - overall great out of the way quiet peaceful and safe! the staff really made the visit enjoyable! nothing, this place is a must see resort
- Jim (10/5): Wonderful time swimming, dining, enjoying. - We had a great time. Lots of birds to watch from the surrounding jungle. Great food in the restaurant. A lovely pool to swim. Staff was warm and friendly. The road to get there is really rough but I guess that is why it is a great out of the way place.
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Elizabeth (8/5): Fun in the Cayo Jungle! - The staff were lovely and the lodging was immaculate, no small feat considering it's in the thick of the jungle! We even did a zip-line on site with our toddler, a memory that will last a lifetime! Only real gripe is that the listing indicated breakfast was included. We were charged for breakfast and when I asked about the free breakfast, there was no explanation about why it wasn't possible or the misrepresentation on the website. FYI: 4x4 car recommended. Ride in is bumpy and slow but adjacent to all the adventurous things nearby like Barton Creek, ATM, etc.
- Michael (7/5): Lovely place but improve the menu and provide some of the basics in the rooms at no charge. - Very nice accommodations, nice pool area and lovely grounds. The zip lining was great with excellent and friendly guides. The quality and availability of the food was lacking. Many items on the menu were not available. Those that were available, weren’t very good (and as you’re a half mile from town down a dirt road in the jungle, it’s not easy to find an alternative).
The different tours (zip lining/hikes) are kind of pricey. I can live with that but then they’re charging for drinking water in our room and even had to pay a dollar (U.S) for 4 paper coffee filters for the coffee maker in our room. Considering the price of accommodations, I felt we were being gouged.
- Antonia (10/5): Overall an amazing time at Calico Jack’s - would definitely recommend for a jungle escape!!! - The staff were amazing (big shout out to Julio) and the grounds are incredible! The food was delicious and all made fresh (as were the drinks). The resort also offers a range of activities including night hikes through the jungle to spot the wildlife as well as zip lining! Overall an amazing time at Calico Jack’s - would definitely recommend for a jungle escape!!! Nothing
- Linda (10/5): Relaxing, beautiful and treated like royalty - Quiet, beautiful rooms and staff are all outstanding
- Francis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic resort, sweetest staff who really went out of their way to make it a great experience. Some in my family did the extreme tour and loved it. Food at restaurant was really good too. This isn't really a criticism of the resort which is gorgeous. It's a bit isolated and as you are driving up, you might wonder if this is a good idea as the area around the resort looks quite run down. Hang in there though because the resort itself is great! Also check out the Rio On pools nearby.
- Vandana (10/5): Excellent place with zipline - The staff were very nice and very helpful. Zipline right on the site. I also really liked the cottage I stayed in. The bed was comfy and the cottage even had a little kitchenette. nothing
- Ellen (9/5): Best Adventures and Great Value - We lived this adventure. The staff was amazing and very accommodating. We didc2 tours with them and highly suggest the cave canoeing and the zip lining!!
- Celine (9/5): Superb - It was a very nice place in the jungle area.
Everyone working there was very kind.
We booked some tours with them, they have been very knowledgeable.
The food was good.
The rooms are nice.
Zipline was fun. There is no other option to get to the resort than getting a taxi from San Ignacio or asking them to pick you up somewhere.
For the 14km they drove us to the main road they charged $30USD. It felt a little bit like they are taking advantage about the fact that you rely on them.
The free bikes mentioned in the description have not been available even thou we were the only Gasts.
- Cynthia (9/5): Superb - Julio and Rigoberto were both excellent!! They made you feel special, and went above and beyond. The 2 young men who took us on the zip line were also wonderful! They made sure everything was safe, and while hiking showed us trees, names, what used for, poison or not, insects, termites, lizards, very informative!
The meals were so enjoyable, made fresh from scratch just for you, awesome!!
I would definitely recommend! The very slow elevator up to our room on 2nd floor.
- Mirna (7/5): Calm and quiet stay - We liked the privacy and guest service. The property us quiet and tranquil and very cool and calm. You see a lot of plants and bird chirping about. We enjoy our time with family.
- Melonie (9/5): Superb -
- Lori (9/5): Amazing staff, stunning location and delicious meals. Will go back there again! - The resort is nestled in the jungle, with beautiful amenities, such as a swimming, pool, and on-site restaurant. The rooms were spacious, and the kitchenette was decently, equipped, including a small refrigerator. Having a zip-line on the property was an added bonus. Everything else is a minimum of 20 to 30 minute bumpy drive away One of our bedrooms did not have a ceiling fan. A pedestal fan would have made the room more comfortable.
- Eleanor (10/5): Magnificent - Off the beaten path. Staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. You feel like you have the whole property to yourself after dark. The best bang for your buck!
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Our stay was made amazing by the staff that care so much about their job and demonstrate that through every interaction. Most specifically Julio made our stay there so memorable and comfortable. As well as the staff that tend to the grounds and run the zip line. They are so genuine and caring about the guest experience. The location is beautiful and the pool is a lovely touch. It is handy to have the restaurant on site and the food is very good. The restaurant also offers great value for Belize which was a welcome change from the coast. Great landing spot to visit the sites and surrounding areas, while being secluded in the jungle. Very much recommend Less cool LED lighting as it made the rooms and restaurant feel stark and cold ( especially behind tinted windows). The fact that no windows open in the room is a problem. At the very least ventilation in the bathroom would have helped. The septic smell seemed to come back up the drains and caused a unpleasant smell in our room for most of our stay and made the air musty. I also feel the pool closing at 5pm didn't make a whole lot of sense to us. I can understand a dawn to dusk, but 5 seemed a bit of a shame both days for us as we were out exploring during the day.
- Lannyyeh (9/5): Superb - The breakfast is very nice. The room is comfortable. Wifi connection is very good.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Twan (10/5): perfect stay - the service of the staff and the value for money
- Helen (8/5): Very good - The zip lining was amazing! Great pool and staff were lovely. Even saw a toucan. Thoroughly recommend for a jungle experience.
