- Mark (3/5): A beautiful home on the outskirts of Milan - BUT BEWARE OF THE “POLICEMAN”! - A beautiful home on the outskirts of Milan - BUT BEWARE OF THE “POLICEMAN”!
When I first reached out to this property through Booking.com, Lori was an angel who responded quickly to our request to stay even though we were arriving late at night. She was sweet and stayed in touch with us until she knew we were safe inside.
But the next day, the owner of the building, Roberta, began to make urgent phone calls and emails demanding that we pay the tourist tax. I had no objection. We’ve paid tourist tax in other Italian places as is the norm. But never has it been an emergency where we felt like the collector was at our door.
And then the collector came to our door!
The next morning, Roberta sent her “policeman” brother-in-law to our door. He knocked aggressively and when we didn’t answer right away (it was early and we were jet lagged), he unlocked the door and started to come into the apartment! My wife met him at the threshold and he rudely demanded to see our passports, snatched them out of her hand, grunted in apparent satisfaction — and then demanded money from her. When she said we had no cash, he left in a huff.
The host then complained to Booking.com and insisted that the brother-in-law had been polite (!) and entered our premises only because they “hadn’t heard from us and feared we were dead”! HOW CREEPY!
Scary really.
My advice to Roberta. Do not involve your brother in law anymore in this operation. He will only get you into trouble and earn you bad reviews. Instead, give Lori a raise and let her handle all interactions with guests. You will suddenly become a popular destination, guaranteed! - Neves (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, 5 minutes from the metro station and bus stop. With some cafes and restaurants nearby too.
