- Ron (10/5): Excellent value in the center of town. - This is a very practical place to stay in the center of town. Carlos is an excellent host and he is very attentive. When I asked for a local laundry he put in a load for me on the spot.
- James (10/5): A very comfortable overnight stay in a wonderful old home - This property was really comfortable. My room had a view over fields and was very peaceful. The kitchen facilities are excellent. I had a very relaxing overnight stay. The host was very welcoming. Nothing at all
- Anja (9/5): - Lässt das Pilgerherz höher schlagen.
Super netter Gastgeber. Waschmaschiene, Kaffee, Tee, Küche zum mitbenutzen.
Zentrale Lage.

- Serge (9/5): Traditional room in historic center - Location in the heart of the historical area. Nice traditionally styled room and balcony. Not bad as such but be aware of it. Weird access through a shop with couple flights of steep narrow stairs; private bathroom but separated from the room (even need to get down a flight of stairs if you book the upper room)
On recommande vivement.
- Christopher (10/5): - Incredible, amazing...WOW!!!
10/10 in every way!!!
Such a unique experience.
Stating in such a traditional and authentic accommodation was such a special experience.
It was immaculate in its presentation and spotlessly clean.
The location was PERFECT and the hosts so welcoming and warm.
Thank you !!
- Marin (10/5): Maravilloso -
- James (9/5): -

- Claus (9/5): Great location and super hospitality - Excellent situation.
Karlos is a super friendly, easy going and helpful host. Karlos hospitality is outstanding
If you like a slightly rustique and Homely place, at the very Center of town, yet very quiet, with the towns best cafes and restaurants just around the corner and falling asleep to the cosy and silent whisper of people in the street and a friendly morning chat with the locals when you get out in the morning - this is your place Santillana del Mar is very pretty, but also a bit touristic “artificial” - no real shops, but all the same type of tourist shops selling the same cakes, liquors and cheese. Not much to see but a good and quiet camp for tours in the neighbourhood

- Rob (10/5): Just perfect...Very lovely place to stay and hosts - A really lovely place. Situated right in the middle of the quaint lovely town. The Owners / Staff were extremely lovely and most welcoming. The rooms are clean , the beds are just fantastic.I really didnt want to leave I hated that I had to leave and travel on.I could have stayed for days.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - As it has been already mentioned in the previous comments, the room has beautiful balcony and Karlos is an excellent host who goes an extra mile with his clients! There is a kitchen you can use. It should be cleared that this is not a pension, it’s a shared house, bathrooms are on the corridor and in general there is not much privacy. I liked this but it might be problem for someone. Just saying :) my stay there was great and I would definitely come back!
- Elena (10/5): Great location, wonderful friendly host! - Great location, wonderful friendly host!
- Amy (10/5): Homely - Pls stay here. Carlos, what a gentleman, warm but non invasive. Lovely photoshoot before setting off for the Camino portfolio. Everything was clean and perfect. Couldn’t recommend more. Nada
- Tammy (10/5): Exceptional - Karlos and his partner are extremely warm and kind. They took very good care of me. The room was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom on floor below room.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful rustic old building. Great to stay in as part of a Camino adventure. Host is a character. Fantastic value located in the perfect spot.
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristjan (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice and cozy small room in the center of old town.
Karlos was friendly and helpful host.
- Patty (10/5): Great spot for a Camino pilgrim. - Lovely historical city and charming space to stay. Owner was very kind. Lots of stairs, if that’s a concern for you.
- Peter (9/5): A great spot right in the old centre. - The really helpful host who made sure there was morning coffee available and was ready with directions and advice. Only downside is I didn't have a key to lock the room as the previous occupant had not returned it, but it felt pretty safe.
- James (10/5): Brilliant thanks to the super host - Host Marcos was fantastic. Amazing place that even had a kitchen. I stayed an extra day it was so comfortable Nothing
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - Hands down the best bed on the Camino del Norte! I was so grateful to have a night to rest here, was absolutely wonderful!
- Valerie (9/5): Superb - Located in the centre of the old town, beautiful house, view on the fields (backroom).
Host was amazing Nothing
- Marian (10/5): A really wonderful place to visit and to stay. - The location was perfect, right in the middle of the action in Santillana Del Mar and close enough to walk to the Altamira Museum, a beautiful walk. Carlos was so incredibly helpful and it seems he just loves helping others. I loved the place, a very old building, updated just enough to make it easy but not enough to destroy its lovely historical features. Nothing really.
- Stefanos (10/5): Scenic stay - Beautiful house and location
- Chris (7/5): Good - The little room with the old beams and the balcony over the main street was charming and cozy. The bed was very comfortable, and the wifi worked well. The well-stocked kitchen with the little lounge was nice to have access to. Karlos was very friendly and helpful, carrying our luggage up and down the twisty stairs and walking with us to the bus stop when we left Santillana.
Many restaurants and hotels were closed in mid-November, but we still ate well in the village. We recommend the wine and salads at La Tienda, the mussels and calamari (rabas) at La Batea, and everything at Restaurante Plaza Mayor. We also loved visiting the amazing Altamira Cave museum, about a half-hour walk from Santillana. It's not Karlos's fault, but workmen were repairing the roof on the old house just across the road while we were there. They made so much noise each day from about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. that it wasn't pleasant to sit on the balcony or keep the windows open.
A few things that weren't obvious from the listing: 1) The bathroom is not attached to the bedroom but is outside in the hallway. Next to it is another bathroom, which is used by the guest in the bedroom upstairs. So there's less privacy than you might expect. 2) The bedroom is up two flights of narrow, twisting stairs. People with mobility issues would have a problem staying here. 3) Karlos and his mother live on the floor below the balcony room, and we sometimes heard the TV coming up from their rooms. Also, sometimes there was a bad smell (like urine) coming up from there, perhaps from a pet or from Karlos's elderly mother. He works hard to keep everything clean, though.
The apartment entrance can be a bit hard to find, because there's no number on the door. You enter through the shop with the arched doorway that sells maritime-themed kids' clothes and toys (called El Barco or something like that).
- Buffy (10/5): Don’t pass up a chance to stay at this property. It is fabulous 🙌 - The room was charming and cozy. Lots of plants gave it a “homey” and we had a great view of the street below. The bathroom was very clean and there was a common kitchen upstairs. Karlos was a wonderful host!
- Audrey (10/5): Karlos is the best host ever!!!!! So kind and extremely helpful!! - Very cute old building, great location.
- Lucy (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krista (7/5): Good - Great location, very clean. Property manager was very nice and helpful. It was difficult to find- unusual entrance and no signage that I noticed.
