Guest Reviews
- Adi (10/5): The perfect place does exist in gjirokaster. - The best place to be in gjirokaster, just note that the path to this "grandma's home" was ruined and hence the owner was kind enough to park my car and allow me to stay in his personal house ( near the view point ) just imagine i lived in one of the first guest houses in gjirokaster ( 200 years old) . amazing views , the Grandma prepared an amazing breakfast and coffee for us , the marmalade was finger licking good. The hospitality of the people was amazing , everything was nearby this place. In all one of the best places to live in gjirokaster. I liked everything
- Liliana (9/5): -
- Marco (10/5): - Für uns hat alles gepasst , das beste Frühstück was wir in Albanien hatten und der Ausblick genial , sehr weit oben am Berg . Man fühlt sich sehr wohl dort .
- Fotini_Gr (8/5): - The accommodation was very clean, comfortable, and offered a warm, welcoming atmosphere.Bath water was available anytime. Breakfast was served in three courses: the first with omelette, feta cheese, fresh tomato and cucumber; the second with sweet loukoumades drizzled with jam; and the third with fresh seasonal fruits. All fresh made! Filter coffee, milk and juice were also available. The location didn’t offer a particularly notable view, but the surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Reaching the property required a short walk, and as the road had a few uneven spots made rolling a suitcase slightly challenging under the sun during summer heatwave.
- Joanna (9/5): - Super lokalizacja 5 minut spacerkiem do centrum piękne widoki i smaczne śniadanie 😃 Brak parkingi
- MURIEL (8/5): - Acces en voiture compliqué avec waze et place de parking non réservée
- Kerry (9/5): Very homely and welcoming - The host was welcoming and kind the room was clean and we had access to a free washing machine, with detergent. Breakfast was delicious. The location was a little hairy on top of a hill but it was well signposted and we had a car.
- Marie (9/5): -
- Shendge (10/5): The best place to stay - Amazing view
- Sam (9/5): Superb -
- Rachel (9/5): Lovely clean house with a warm welcome - Room was spacious, clean and comfortable (twin). Separate bathroom just across the hall for our sole use. Room was equipped with air conditioning, fridge, tv and hairdryer. Wifi was good. Host was welcoming and met us on the road to help carry bags inside. The house had a shared lounge and balcony where breakfast was served with great views. Coffee, juice, omelette, bread and fresh fruit was a great addition to a very good price for the nights stay. Quiet location equalled quiet sleep!
Location is excellent for exploring Gjirokaster, a very short walk to castle and old town. The house was easy to find after reading other reviews. As others have said - Do not attempt to drive up the road where your GPS leads you. You will become stuck with no where to turn around. There is only a path to the house, no road. Park by the cinema (Kinema Graret on google maps).
Highly recommend the Corner of Bazaar restaurant, Gliko Patisserie (best Oshaf) and Froyo box, all in the old bazaar area. Everything was great but a mirror in the bedroom would be a great addition
- Carlo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Astrid (8/5): Very good - The place is very charming and the view astonishing. very nice to take the breakfast in front of the castle. The owner is very nice and accommodating. would highly recommend staying there when in Gjirokaster!
- Mara (10/5): Exceptional - The place was warm and inviting, traditional old house, you can really feel the Albanian culture inside, it has great breakfast and a great host who will take care of everything you need, he even gave me some Turkish delight to try for free! If you come by car, the parking space is up on a steeply road, if you can manage it, there is no issue, but for me as a woman was a bit harder :))
- Inês (9/5): Superb - Everything was good. Sokol was super sweet and available all the time. If you can’t find parking just call him and he’ll help you! Nothing to point. Just keep in mind that they only take cash as payment
- Bourounis (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very friendly and helpful.
The room was very clean and comfortable.
The view from tne balcony was amazing.
- Narelle (4/5): Disappointing - Did not actually stay there- as had a message saying the booking was cancelled due to a booking error/overbooked-on the morning of the day we were intended to stay.
- Ana (10/5): Lovely - Great host and big clean room. A little hard to find
- Man (6/5): Pleasant - The location is good, but the last section of the road leading to the B&B is not properly maintained. When it's marked with washing machine, but I was asked to pay for the use of it when checked out. Yes, the bathroom is private, but not inside my room. Since it's street parking & Gjirokastër is filled with tourist, parking is a challenge.
- Robertfoster1 (9/5): Superb -
- Maria (10/5): Amazing! Definitely recommend! - Everything, the owners super nice and helpful, very communicative. Very nice breakfast included in the price. It had AC, very clean, super nice bathroom. Very close to the center, everything was great! Nothing.
- Aidan (10/5): Exceptional - Nice host, good breakfast, and close to all the cool
Stuff It is up a hill but if you can handle that you’re in for a great stay!
- Birgit (10/5): Exceptional - We really loved Grandma’s Home! We had a wonderfull room, the room was fully equiped and very clean. The location was perfect and the view was amazing. The host was super kind and helpfull. We would highly recommend this place! Thank you a lot! :) Nothing, everything was perfect!
- Noura (9/5): Superb -
- Geraldine (10/5): Exceptional - Location. Nice size room. Very friendly and helpful host
- Terpani (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (8/5): Good stay and welcoming host. - Very warm welcome from the host and very accommodating. Provided a lovely breakfast on the balcony with views of the city. Parking was very difficult, you cannot drive up to the property fully and the roads are very tight.
No fridge in the room.
- Michal (7/5): Great place to see Gjirokaster. - Close to everything in Gjirokaster. Very friendly host. The WiFi was very poor. You have to park your car a bit far from the accommodation.
- Gabriela (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were lovely and the property view was incredible! Nothing
- Mlyan (7/5): Good - Warm welcome and felt at home immediately. Room was spacious and comfortable. Down town was just a short walk away. They were refurbishing the road, so there is no parking available in the immediate surroundings. The room has private bathroom but it was in the hall.
- Nicola (9/5): Great value - Spotlessly clean, comfy spacious rooms and a very friendly host. Great value for money. I'd definitely stay here again! Access isn't amazing if you have mobility issues (which we didn't) and when we were there one of the roads was closed so it took a bit of time to get there. It's also not at the cinema but on the road up to the right of the cinema
- Ilirian (10/5): Awesome, super welcoming and clean - The view was excellent, the staff was even more amazing and hospitality was at a great level. The morning also was very delicious.
- Philip (10/5): A gem in gjirokaster - It was an amazing spot with incredible hospitality.
Soooo nice We couldn't stay longer
- Klevisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Siobhan (10/5): A delightful stay at Grandma's Home - We received a very warm welcome from Aqil and he went out of his way to ensure our stay was wonderful. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were the best we've had in our recent rooms. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning on the balcony whilst marvelling at the beautiful scenery. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Grandma's Home or to stay there again myself. Thank you Aqil and Andreas for making our stay in Gjirokaster a highlight of our trip to Albania.
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional - Great stay at this welcoming guest house. We had a friendly reception with raki, amazing breakfast with the best view on the balcony and felt just like at home. Great for a quiet stay at Gjirokastrë and yet it takes you 5 mins to walk to the city center. Would definitely recommend it!
- Jorge (8/5): Good stay for one night in Gjirokastar - Akil gave us a warm welcome.
- Chumras (9/5): Superb -
- Przemek (7/5): Good - The location was perfect, and our host was very pleasant. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a shot of raki and some fresh fruits. Additionally, the breakfast was delicious. I was quite disappointed to discover that the bathroom was not in the room, and this detail should have been clearly stated on booking.com. Every time I needed to use the bathroom, I had to walk down the hall, occasionally encountering other guests, making it feel like a shared bathroom situation. To add to my frustration, when I paid for the property in local currency, I found the host's exchange rate calculations to be unfair.
- Judy (6/5): Our host was delightful but the dog barking through the night at a neighbour’s house really spoilt our visit - The view was amazing. Near the centre for restaurants etc Our room 102 had a bathroom across the corridor and there were no mirrors in the room which was awkward
- Aivar (9/5): Superb -
- Felicia (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location with the mountain view. Andrea was very responsive on all my questions. His father was extremely friendly, though he spoke very little English. Breakfast with a view! Great choice for staying away from the busy bazaar area.
- Chumras (8/5): Very good -
- Friedrich (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful time with you. The hospitality was overwhelming and it was our best stop on our Balkan trip. We felt incredibly comfortable and would have loved to stay longer. The accommodation is in a great location, centrally situated on a mountain. The path is a bit steep but there is a beautiful view and you are central but still away from the hustle and bustle. The rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was great and we were welcomed with figs and raki.
- Elisabetta (8/5): Very good -
- Alket (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabella (10/5): Exceptional - The host was amazing, he helped me park the car and was very attentive the whole time.
The guesthouses location is near to the center and also to the castle., The offered breakfast was amazing Everything was perfect
- Rapollari (10/5): Exceptional -
- Briar (8/5): Very good - The service was excellent, breakfast was spectacular and the location perfect. The host went out of his way to make sure I enjoyed my stay. I felt very comfortable as a solo traveler.
- Dzenita (9/5): Superb - A host is very kind and supportive. The apartment was a clean and comfortable. It was challenging to find the address. Any navigation app was not helpful9.
- Ilias (10/5): Exceptional - Achilles it's a very nice person. He was so friendly that he wins you from the moment you enter the house.
Thank you Achilles
- A (9/5): Superb - The staff are nice.
It’s 5-7 minutes walk from the center.
- Fthkmnt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katarzyna (8/5): Very good - Location very close to old center.
Amazing tarrace with view on the castle and cute patio.
Tasty breakfast included.
Unexpected welcome from the host.
Comfy bed and nice room facilities.
Access to kitchen. Noone at property speaks comunicative English which is cute but may cause confusions. Happily we have translators!
- Tom (9/5): Great place to enjoy gjirocaster - Andrea's father welcomed us with a smile and helped us with parking. The guesthouse is very nice and clean, the breakfast was nice. The location is great to explore gjirokaster and the castle, everything is within walking distance It was a bit hard to find, you have to drive a small alleyway. A sign at the beginning of the road would have helped us, but the hosts were attentive and noticed us soon enough to help us.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible views, and the family really make you feel at home! We felt so looked after thank you so much.
- Monique (10/5): Felt like home - The owners are fantastic and are very kind.
The location was beautiful with a gorgeous view at breakfast.
The room was large with plenty of space and the breakfast delicious and usually had a traditional albanian side to try.
Just a note it is up a steep hill so if your hard of walking this may not be the stay for you, however also don't let that put you off as the entire old town area is on step hills
- Ardit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and really nice guest house! Great views. Shame we only stayed one night.
- Lars (10/5): Exceptional - A great stay, lovely host, great view Nothing
- Juli (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment was very clean and in a beautiful position.
Axilleas and his wife are perfect host always ready to give you tips for making your stay unforgettable!!
Super recommended
- Aran (8/5): Nice, good value accommodation with a very friendly host. A good option for your stay in Gjirokastra - Clean rooms, very friendly host, amazing view from the communal balcony. Up a very steep hill, dogs barking outside all night. The owners can do nothing about these, but they should be considered by others before booking.
- Tobias (9/5): Superb - The balcony and the host. Aquilea made sure we were happy and comfortable Nothing
- Vassilis (9/5): very pleasant in many respects, a bit difficult to find if you are not an efficient GPS user - near the castle, very clean, nice breakfast, very nice host, value for money
- Garth (8/5): A pleasant stay - This is a well situated place in the beautiful Old Town nestled up on the mountainside. Room was clean and comfy with aircon provided. Private bathroom just across the hallway was not a problem, however the shower does not drain too well as the surface it a bit flat. Yet, this is not a big issue. Our host, despite limited English, was accommodating and treated us to a great breakfast in the morning and raki in the afternoon. A great visit and stay! There is limited parking for guests and when we arrived there was no parking. You have to go find your own parking a bit away from the place
- Ana (10/5): Well located, amazing hospitality - Amazing service at Grandmas home- super cosy and central. The owner wasn’t there, but his father was very helpful and kind. A really lovely stay.
- Ramiz (8/5): Very good - Close to castle and old bazaar. Both walkable. Roads are so narrow and steep but that's the location 😊
- Scott (8/5): Very good -
- Isabell (8/5): We had a great time at the house. The host was very nice and we felt at home right away. I can highly recommend staying - The property was very clean, comfortable and in a good location, just a few minutes to walk to the city center. The host was very friendly, open and gave us nice recommendations. He was able to answer questions about the region, what we can do and how we can get to the places. The house is located very high on a mountain. We tried to go there by car, but it was not possible. For people with limited mobility it may be difficult to reach.
- Joel (8/5): very friendly place to saty - The host was very friendly and welcoming and was extremely hospitable. The house is very clean and the room very comfortable. The aircon (which was badly needed in this July heatwave) worked well. Access by car was a bit tricky. The house is on a steep slope and you cannot ark right by the house, you have to walk to it. The roads in that town of Gjirokaster are very treacherous, but that was not the host's fault.
I would just warn people intending to visit Gjirokaster by car to be aware that driving there is a hair-raising experience.
Roads are narrow, steep and badly maintained.
- Grzegorz (9/5): Superb - Nice guesthouse located above center of Gjirokaster, close to the castle. Very nice, helpful owner. Quiet area but still close to the old town. Tasty local breakfast on the small terasse overlooking part of the old town and the castle. For us it was not a problem but it should be clearly stated on Booking.com that it is not possible to drive and park in front of the guesthouse. The only parking spot is at the end of blind street ca. 30 m down from the entrance, it is also a bit tricky to park the car there, however doable.
- Nicolas (7/5): Good - Despite not speaking to much English, Achilleas was charming The plastic curtain in the bathroom was a bit unconvenient
- Lucia (10/5): Quiet and cozy place - Clean room, cozy, air conditioning. Andrea’s father is a wonderful host, few words but meaningful. Nice view and wonderful breakfast, parking place was on the road but not a jammed one Nothing
- André (10/5): Just perfect and welcoming - First off, the warm welcome, very family like. The place is situated very ideally between many of the sights around town, there are even short cuts between alleys that you will be shown and recommendations for a good round trip to see most in a day or two. The rooms are comfortable and with good AC and facilities. Breakfast is served on the balcony which holds a great view of the town and castle. They helped us with bus schedules and taxied us to the correct bus station in town for a small fee. Very highly recommended on our part.
- Sara (10/5): Feel like home - Everything was so goooood !
- Vassilis (10/5): Exceptional - Very pleasant, very nice and helpful manager
- Carlos (8/5): Very good -
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely stay overlooking the town of Gjirokaster. The guesthouse is very clean and comfortable, perfect for our one night stay. The owners are so caring and lovely, they made us feel very welcome. The breakfast is great overlooking the castle. Definitely recommend!
- Molly (9/5): Rooms were comfortable, hots were friendly and made us feel very comfortable, enjoyed sitting out on top floor patio. - Balcony for sitting outside and for breakfast. Provided a nice breeze, great views and quiet. Our private bathroom was located outside of our room in the hallway. Taxi had to drop us off approximately 100m from guesthouse because the road did not go up to guesthouse, just a stone pathway. Had to carry heavy bags up very steep hill.
- Tchillo (9/5): A gem in Gjirokaster - So many good things to say about that gems : The view from the terrace, the way the hosts are so welcoming, the breakfast simple yet so tasty, the localisation very near to the old city...it was all great and we will definitely book this place again if we come back to Gjirakoster.
Please be aware that the house is uphill (less than 5 minutes from historical center), if you are coming from the bus station, do yourself a favor and take a taxi
Side note : for the room we booked, the bathroom was private but across the hallway...
- Sadie (10/5): Exceptional - Unbelievable location, right up beside the castle and the restaurants.
Excellent host and warm welcome
Lovely room, clean and comfy.freshly prepared breakfast served on the balcony.!!!
- Anonymous (10/5): Wonderful and welcoming. - Amazing hospitality and very clear! Felt right at home!
- Sehgal (10/5): A beautiful family home - Everything!
- Pasi (10/5): One of the best guesthouses I've ever stayed in! - The hosts are very friendly, the room very cozy and clean, delicious breakfast (with good strong coffee) on the balcony with the best view of the city!
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Michaela (10/5): Exceptional - Clean rooms with a lovely view of the castle. Very near all the interesting spots, hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Andre is always on the phone, ready to help.
- Christian_c (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and courteous host. Cozy rooms and pretty close to old bazar with restaurants and shops. Delicious breakfast with wonderful view over Gjirokastra.
Absolutely recommended this guest house!
- Enerika (10/5): Exceptional - One of a kind beautiful house by the creek. Breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, creek and the city.
Conveniently located for sightseeing in historical city and hiking the hills of Gjirokastra, the house can accommodate big and small tours.
The host Andrea has extensive knowledge of the must see places to visit in Albania to make your experience even more memorable.
The house is close to the castle and the historical town, five minutes from each.
Guests have access on the terrace, garden, balcony and front porch.
We also offer traditional cooking upon request.
