- daniel (1/5): very disappointing experience. - the hotel is set in a beautiful location. unfortunately we had a very bad experience here. there were no staff on site so we had to make our own way in, the hotel smelt very strongly of air fresheners and disinfectants, way too much for us...there was no fridge or water in the room and the wifi upstairs did not work as the router was broken.the village has no amenities so we had a quick wash and moved on, we paid full price for the room albeit we had 1 shower and were in there less than 1 hour....the owner/manager didn't offer any refund of any sort. the whole experience for us was very bad due to the above comments . the hotel could be so good if they staffed it properly and had decent amenities.

- Elspeth (9/5): A lovely stay at an old jail! - La Cárcel is in a small quiet village towards the end of a beautiful valley. It's very rustic, and charming, with beautiful bedrooms above the bar/restaurant area. Outside has numerous areas to sit, and we spent a whole afternoon relaxing in the sun. We also walked beyond the next village Montrondo to see the waterfall, and stopped in the welcoming village pub on our way back. We could have stayed much longer than our short 2 days as it was so comfortable and welcoming. The bed was the best I've ever slept in, and the bathroom was lovely and quaint.
Inés catered superbly for us, and the other gentleman who served us was very helpful with ideas for walks etc. Squeaky floorboards and quite thin walls.

- Felip (10/5): Goog caring of their customers - Friendiness of the property. Excelent price for value ratio. We’ll return
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional - Fernando (the owner) is particularly helpful and friendly.
The atmosphere of the building and the village are wonderfully historic.
I could have happily stayed longer to explore.
- Paul (9/5): Lovely hotel, run by great staff, warm and friendly - Superb little find, lovely views, nice garden. Parking for motorcycles, great staff, good food and drink, highly recommended Nothing
- Nuria (10/5): Intimate with nature, surrounded by forests, comfortable - It is the ideal place to relax and enjoy nature in a valley surrounded by a magnificent forest of birch trees. The hotel is just wonderful and Nuria is on the top of every detail! Nothing bad to say
- Phyllida (10/5): Lovely rooms, views and hospitality and great value. - Housed in the former village prison, this small, family-run hotel has been refurbished by the local authority to bring visitors to the area. It has been beautifully restored and has a lovely garden terrace with views across the fields. Nuria and her team are running it with warmth and enthusiasm. Great value for money. A business to support. Would stay again. Nothing significant. Maybe vegetarian cooking isn’t their strongest, but the cooking is local, authentic, unfussy and home made. Breakfast jams were delicious.
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicky (10/5): Perfect rural retreat - Fernando and Nuria are exceptional hosts. The location is charming. Nothing
- Veronica (8/5): Very good - Beautiful surroundings. Very.nice and really enjoyed our stay. Lots of great walks and wished we had a longer stay to see.more.
- Spencer (10/5): Exceptional - I only have high praise for this quaint little hotel. From the excellent service to the homely decor and insanely delicious yet affordable breakfast/dinner, it has easily been my favourite hotel stay so far.
- Alan (10/5): Beautiful small hotel in a stunning mountain location - A charming small hotel in a beautiful location. The village is tranquil and peaceful. Our dinner was memorable with very good local dishes and friendly service.
- Liam (10/5): Excellent hosts, incredible attention to detail , and I would definitely come again - Extremely charming and well kept
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional - We thought that we would be disturbed at night, by occupants of the next room-with a small child-but we slept extremely well. Everything was superb! Nada!
- Heske (10/5): A warm nest hidden in the lush hills of rural Spain - This hotel is located in the middle of a stunning rural scenery hidden from the world, where the nature is just so overwhelmingly pretty and lush. We felt very welcome and at home, and the beds were super comfortable. This place is just a gem if you want to go for long walks and get lost in nature, breathe fresh air and clear your mind and at night sink into a soft bed to rest and recharge... I loved the breakfast area that was also a restaurant but closed for guests most of the time during the day. As this was such an intimate hotel we would have liked to be in this space a bit more and be able use it as a 'living room'.
- Luis (9/5): Couple on a road trip at the North of Spain 🇪🇸 - Everything! The space is lovely, there is a restaurante inside the hotel with accessible prices and just delicious! Núria was simply amazing concerning everything! She helped us with dinner decisions, breakfast, and was simply a positive force in the hotel; a true commander of the ship that just makes you feel welcomed.
We only stayed for 1 night but it would be awesome to spend more time! Near the babia y Luna natural park, close to the trails. A marvel delight. A little difficult to find on maps (if you feel lost just follow the street down until you find the plates! I would suggest the hosts to put a plate in the main street). There were stairs at the roof of our room (room number 3) and when anyone goes up/down you can hear it and wake up.
- Nicholas (10/5): A real find - can't wait to return - The location in the heart of the countryside is stunning and when we arrived we could not have received a friendlier welcome from the owners of this tiny village hotel. The building really was the local prison and it's retained many of its original features and also has a garden where we were able to sit to drink some of the local craft beers made just a few miles up the road. The restaurant has a short menu of lovely home-cooked food which comes in large portions (we were told we had ordered too much and that was quite right!) and the bedrooms were really comfortable. Nothing.
- Tim (10/5): great value very comfortable and a stunning location - travelling across Spain on my motorcycle I discovered this hidden valley and pretty village with the charming Casa Rural. a lovely quiet comfortable and peaceful place to stay. you can eat on site or there is a little bar / restaurant in the village. great breakfast comfy bed and a lovely welcome nothing
- Gordon (10/5): Best Hotel of the Holiday - Beautiful historic building, great views, great owners, good local food, good bar, spotless spacious well appointed room. Brilliant value for money. An absolute gem. Nothing. Could have charged half as much again and it would still have been good.
- Stephen (10/5): Real gem of a find... - Everything; great service, great food, well stocked bar and beautifully decorated rooms in a lovely old building... Nothing
