Guest Reviews
- Darcy (8/5): - Great location and size and good facilities. Highly recommend Aircon was a little too small to reach bedroom but good enough. Shower drain was also blocked by previous guest but was easy to fix and didn’t really impact stay at all
- KONSTANTINOS (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Florence- what an amazing city - The apartment was perfect for my stay. Located close to train station, easy to walk to everywhere, small shop close by and lots of restaurants . All the sites were within walking distance which was perfect.
- Erzsébet (8/5): Megfelelő volt. - A berendezés,ágy,felszereltség nagyon jó. Zajos az utca.
- Carlos (10/5): -
- Kav (1/5): Bad - Just the pillow was good! 1. The location on the map is good, but it's in an extremely noisy and busy area! The windows do nothing to block the street noise—it feels like you're sleeping in a tent right on the street. We had to buy earplugs just to manage the noise, which was a hassle.
2. There was a terrible sewer smell, and we had to keep the bedroom door closed to lessen it, but it still lingered in the room. The owner claimed it was due to recent sewer cleaning, but it clearly wasn’t done properly. The place should not be rented out until it’s fully fixed, as this smell could make people sick or cause lung issues.
3. All the shower and toilet drains were blocked, causing water to back up and create a disgusting pool when showering or washing hands! (See photos)
- Halmcc (10/5): Florence at your doorstep - Excellent location and the room was very spacious.
- Barbara (10/5): STAY HERE! - STAY HERE, @ La Spada!
Our fourth visit to Firenze, and the first time at this gem called,
"La Spada!"
Though we never met our landlady personally during our nine-day stay, Maria supplied us via email,
detailed instructions as to how to enter her secure apt. building and into our spacious, furnished apt. complete with two double beds, kitchen, and full bathroom with a corner shower.
Unlocking & opening the door into the air-conditioned iciness from the 95-degree heat was a welcomed surprise!
Maria replied quickly to my many questions via WhatsApp.
The location is perfect:
A half-mile walk from the SMN Station, passing many kind souvenir vendors and restaurants through the gorgeous SMN Square, where in the center, during some evenings, visitors sit and listen in front of local musicians who perform for tips, just across from our favorite restaurant, neighborhood Irish bar, with friendly staff, "Fiddler's Elbow." Bob loves the salmon sandwich, roasted potatoes, a couple of Triples, and I am craving here in Bastogne, Belgium, the crunchy-good huge, sauerkraut hot dog I enjoyed so many times there, the last one, just two days ago!
Extra "bennies": or, "More benefits" from staying at La Spada:
"PAM Local," is a chain is a neighborhood grocery store located throughout Firenze!
We stocked up on beer and goodies nightly before turning the corner and walking the final 300 feet to our apt. NO liquor sales after 9pm.
PAM closes at 10 pm.
At La Spada:
Guests are responsible for taking out their own trash and bottles during their stay, daily, if necessary.
Conveniently located are foot- operated receptacles, just as you enter SMN Square.
Pack a few plastic bags for trash to save purchasing them @ PAM.
The newly-opened, HZERO Train Museum is located on the corner opposite PAM Local.
Great museum for kids of all ages. 1.
It would have been an only more perfect stay if our La Spada apt. entrance could open onto the street vs. laboring the two flights up and down after miles of daily walking and toting too much, heavy luggage!
It required us a couple of trips to bring luggage to and from the apartment.
2. A complimentary city map left on the kitchen table for guests would have been extremely helpful in planning trips and navigating the city, as other hotels provide.
3. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Leaving La Spada was like leaving behind many fond memories of one's first home.
Thank you, Maria!

- Charles (10/5): Exceptional - The hospitality is wonderful and Maria goes above and beyond to ensure a positive and memorable stay The shower drain wasn't draining but was an easy fix.
- Valentin (8/5): Beautiful Florence! For a second trip here, I'd like to stay in the same place, with good and wrong. - A good place in an old building. Very close to everything to visit. Second level, no elevator. A good room when outside was 35 Celsius. I don't use the AC. Clean enough. Big room, some good facilities. Still, a bit pricey for what it offers... Smells from the restaurant from floor level. The bath, very little. Very noisy room. Sounds and voices of the street very high. The Italians like to show to everybody how good sound the engine of his motor, no matter if is day or night... And the most important: I have some experiences in this style of travel, but is the first time when, arrived tired after 12 hours of travel (bus, airplane, taxi, train) I find in the room... nothing! A bottle of water, a beer, some coffee... Nothing! On the principle "Find when you arrive, left when you leave". I let a beer and some coffee when I leave, but I'm not sure if the next tourist find them. You can make people very happy when arrived with only 3-4-5 euros. Or is too much for you?
- Alannah (10/5): Perfect - Everything clean comfortable Need a tv in bedroom 🙏🏻
- Claudia (6/5): Adequate. Fine. - There is an air conditioner in the kitchen, which if you put it on high before you go to bed, will make for a good bedroom temp. As others have indicated, it is LOUD. Until 2-3am. If you sleep well with background noise, then it's not a problem I guess (like for my Mother). Otherwise, OY (like for me). One night it quieted down at 2, but at 5:30am a group was winding down their night singing at the top of their lungs and pushing a shopping cart down the street.... I could only laugh. But some might not find the humor in that (-: The place is HUGE. But the bathroom is not. No place to put your toiletries. The wash machine would have been great had it actually worked. There is a hair dryer (great!), but you can't plug it into any of the outlets in the bathroom. I finally found an outlet with the ground plug in the kitchen (not great!). Wanted to stow our luggage before check in time, and was told I could take it to the train station (really? next time just tell me to eff off....).
- Atanas (8/5): Very good - The location was perfect - very near the Santa Maria Novella station and just a few minute walk from the Duomo and most main attractions in the city. The apartment was spacious. The host was very helpful. The self check in process was easy and quick. Although it wasn't a problem for us, it's good to know there's a steep and narrow staircase that leads to the apartment. Also lots of noise comes from the street at night.
- Dimitar (3/5): Poor -
- Christina (3/5): Poor -
- Denise (8/5): while location may be prime to many attractions the nighttime noise was unbearable and as good of a bed and sheets that - location next to all the hot spots, luxury stores, buca Mario shower was clogged and we had to clean it out as the water almost overflowed and we had to wait for it to drain between showers.
the outside street noise from traffic and pedestrians kept us up until after 3am. it was horribly loud. def could have helped with earplugs but we didn’t have any.
- Aminin (8/5): house very comfortable - city centre no lift / elevator and no lighting at staircase
- Helen (5/5): Disappointing - Convenient location Our booking was transferred to La Spada when previous accommodation cancelled booking (booked in July, cancelled in Ocober) I expected like for like (eg elevator or ground floor) on arrival confronted with 4 flights of VERY steep, VERY narrow, poorly lit and VERY worn stairs. carrying luggage was difficult and would have been impossible for older or less mobile guests. EXTREMELY noisy - above a restaurant, wine bar next door, street noise till well after 1am most nights.
no tea towel, one roll of toilet paper for 5 night stay, no spare trash bags, no introduction booklet, broken shower (mentioned in previous review)
would not stay again, would not recommend
- Karl (1/5): scam - this place was a scam - incredibly dirty apartment - towel provided had poop - then charged 225 euro for a broken shower that was already broken
