Guest Reviews
- Rose Ann (8/5): -
- Valerie (10/5): A private stay in a cabana with the best staff and food. - The staff was really welcoming and fun to talk to. The restaurant was excellent, and the tomahawk steak was amazing! We went on the shoulder season and there were very few other guests. Seemed like we had the place to ourselves. Boat to the south side was very easy to schedule. Beds were comfortable. The sargassum arrived early this year and the beaches stank to high heaven. They had crews working around the clock to clear it out, but it’s hard to fight Mother Nature. Had I known, I wouldn’t have booked ocean front.
- Hanson (9/5): -
- Jocoy (9/5): We were very happy staying here for a quiet, relaxing, week-long holiday! - Staff members were excellent - very responsive and informative. The on-sight restaurant was easily accessible, perfectly fine in terms of food quality and price overall in $US equivalent, but a little uneven across dishes. Grounds are well-kept and facilities maintained well with a sense of place relative to the island, especially the mangroves. It was walkable from the Split ferry but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. We would stay here again. e North Caye is much quieter than South Caye with fewer restaurants and bars. Travel across the Split should be taken into consideration if you choose to stay here. We loved it, but crossing by ferry takes time - even though it takes about 2 minutes to cross and wait time for use was no more than 10 minutes. Ferries may be not available late at night. All travel on the Caye is by golf cart. The resort provides rides both by cart and boat but not at all times of day. Not criticism, just some things to consider. No beach access at this resort - you have to go to west side of the Caye or to South Caye.
- Fernando (10/5): -
- Calvin (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Xavier (10/5): great - friendliness and attententative would like have an option where golfcart included with room.
- Sophie (9/5): Great hotel - My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. It was lovely to use the pools and the food and cocktails were delicious. We used their complimentary kayaks too which was fun. The staff were very welcoming and kind and even left us a little surprise in our bedroom since we got engaged not long before arriving. It’s easy to get to the split using their complimentary golf cart or boat too. It’s a little expensive but then that’s the case everywhere in Belize!!
- Christina (10/5): Should have stayed longer!!! - Absolutely the best place we stayed while in Belize. Clean, beautiful, bright and airy room. Great transportation to South island. Friendly staff ad owner. The grounds were gorgeous and the foliage was outstanding. Would highly recommend!!!
- Alana (8/5): Quiet location with excellent staff - The cabana style is an excellent style, I wish more new developments followed El Ben's lead! The staff were wholesome and extraordinarily helpful. Offering golf cart transfers to and from the ferry, bike rentals, and breakfast brought to our room! We did a snorkel tour and the captain was able to pick us up right from the hotel pier!! My only comment is that the chemical used to keep the pool clean (I suspect bromine?) gave both my kiddos a rash and they were unable to continue swimming in the pool for the remainder of our stay 😔
- Anna (10/5): -
- Alessandro (10/5): - Location calma e tranquille, lontano dalla bolgia. Vicino a Bliss beach (la spiaggia più bella). Camere grandi e molto pulite. Staff eccezionale.
- Filippo (10/5): -
- Wioleta (8/5): - Otoczenie.Przyroda Brak lodowki
- Antonio (6/5): - The food was very good. Every meal we had at the hotel was delicious. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms nice. The staff was very sparce, understandable for off season but made for a less than ideal stay. The staff all seemed very annoyed to have to be working. I understand we traveled during the slow season but for the price the level of service was disappointing. There were many members of the hotel staff that were helpful and kind, however there was a lot of people who seemed they were incovenced by having to have guests at the hotel. The location was very far from anything which would be fine if you wanted to never leave the hotel.
- Devin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Inés (4/5): Disappointing - Relax There is not much going on on this part of the island, if it is your first time I would not recommend you to stay here since it is a bit far and their boat taxi is reliable, so you will need to pay the water taxis on the split.
- Maria (10/5): We loved it. The food was excellent and the staff made all the difference They are very helpful and friendly - The staff was very attentive to all our needs
The rides to the ferry was very helpful
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - Location on the north side of the island.
Free transfer pick ups from water taxi
Great room
Good restaurant. Service slow in restaurant
Room is only cleaned if you request it which we weren't told at check in.
- Michelle (3/5): Poor -
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - This was the best of all the places we stayed in Belize. The staff were so great, the room lovely and clean, the complimentary water taxi was excellent to get to the south side easily.
- Yannick (9/5): Superb - Great place. Calm resort for the perfect holiday experience. There's a free shuttle to the town and they help you organize activities such as snorkeling, ferries to other islands etc. Although you sometimes need to chase them a bit to make it work... Restaurant was good.
- Laurie (8/5): Great quiet rooms on the north side - I really liked how quiet it was, way less busy than San pedro or the Caye Caulker main town. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Not a big deal, but I was surprised they did not clean the room at all while we were there for 4 nights, just strange compared to other hotels that were smaller and less expensive that we stayed in.
- Bonnie-jo (8/5): Very good - Well laid out property, clean and quiet. The boat to and from the south island was perfect. Fantastic place to stay if you need to wind down from all the action of the “downtown”. At the price point breakfast should be included.
- Sergio (10/5): Amazing - Everything this place is amazing Location
- Marthena (9/5): Lovely location, helpful staff, very nice rooms, but mosquitoes and smelly water were a bummer - The bed was comfortable in the shower had good water, pressure and plenty of room. We stayed in the suite that had no attached neighbors so that was really nice. The staff was super helpful and arranged for pick up when we landed at the caye caulker ferry terminal. We had a mini fridge in our room. This location was perfect, it wasn’t around any loud party shenanigans. The hotel staff arranged Taxi is for us when we wanted them. There is a nice Nespresso coffee maker in the room & working air conditioner & fans. They have bikes for rent, but the one day we wanted to rent bikes, they said they didn’t have any available because they had all been rented out. I’m not sure how many total bikes the property has, but that was kind of a bummer. Plus the reviews about the mosquitoes are true. Though I think they are sand flies and they have itchy bites like mosquitoes. I came home with 80 bites on me and I’m pretty sure it’s because these cabanas are near a lot of Stillwater. The water was pretty stinky. There were some other spots we found along the island that were pretty smelly so this isn’t the only spot that smells bad but that was kind of a bummer. You can’t really enjoy the pool with the mosquitoes. We definitely didn’t rent the kayaks and didn’t want to because we didn’t want to get eaten alive by bugs. It’s nice that they have their own dock and their own boat which came in handy when we wanted to book tours where we had to leave at 5:30 AM. However, even despite the mosquitoes or sand flies, we were stoked on this location. It’s a five minute walk to the split or a one minute golf cart taxi ride. We loved that it was so quiet in this area and would definitely stay here again.
- Madalena (8/5): Very good - Found it on booking Located on the North Island with not much around it a bit dependent on the boats specially if want to have some fun at night
LOTS OF MOSQUITOS
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Tallulah (5/5): Great hotel, but don’t do your laundry there! - The property was beautiful, the location was amazing - a great complimentary service was offered by the hotel to get between the split, the boat’s captain (Mike) was friendly and responsive. The staff in the restaurant and reception were very friendly and helpful also. Unfortunately when our laundry was returned, all of our white items were dyed pink and a top was missing. We understand that mistakes can happen, but the managers of the hotel were immediately incredibly defensive and hostile, and accused us of not providing instructions (for how to separate whites and colours?!) despite us confirming with them we did not need to do anything specific when handing it over. They did eventually offer us a complimentary breakfast, but it did not compensate for the money and clothes we lost and the hostile treatment we received.
- Yellin (7/5): Good -
- Natalie (10/5): Amazing hotel on the north side of Caye Caulker - Amazing property, away from the crowds. Perfect if you want to relax for a few days. Great cabins, very spacious and clean. We absolutely loved our stay there! Nothing
- Andre (6/5): Great hotel but with a bad service - The bedroom is really comfortable The staff: I had a problem with information on the boat that you have to take from the city to the hotel. Also, the restaurant waiter was not so friendly. The hotel was empty and I was expecting for a better service.
- Cipryana (8/5): Very good -
- Smith (9/5): Superb -
- Lena (8/5): Very good -
- Erol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raquel (10/5): Amazing staff, clean, quiet and an easy walk to the Split. -
- Emma (8/5): Very good - The hotel itself is stunning. The entire property is well designed and well kept. The room, even with its thatched roof was very clean and cozy. The location is inconvenient as it's not on the main part of Caye Caulker. You have to take either the small sit n dip boat which costs money each way, or make use of the hotel's free boat service, but which doesn't go every hour and also the boat driver is unreliable. Of the maybe 4 times we used the boat service, he didn't show or was late 3 of those times.
- Johnson (10/5): Amazing food amazing people I recommend it to anybody - Staff was extremely friendly kind The rooms get pretty warm at night placement of the air-conditioning unit isn’t too too helpful and if you’re in front of it sleeping, you’re gonna wake up stuff here with your throat hurting
- Dlreadams (8/5): Very good - Awesome staff, good food and nice facilities. Only problem was the air conditioning didn't cool as much as we would have liked. We kept having to turn it back on. But with that being said, we would stay there again
- Polonca (10/5): Amazing and relaxing stay with amazing staff! - Everything! The staff was super helpful, they arranged snorkelling trip and answered to all our questions. The room was spacious and very beautiful. Property provides transfer services to the south part multiple times per day which was very convenient. The food they serve is amazing, little bit to pricy but delicious. The only downside is that the bathroom isn’t fully closed and lights from the bathroom can wake up everybody else sleeping in the room. I’d recommend to install some little light for turning it on during the night time
- Patricia (8/5): Beautiful property, relaxing stay! - Beautiful Property was quiet and well kept. Staff were friendly and attentive. Transportation options available to get to and from the property. Rooms are large and beds are comfortable. Large shower. Drinking water provided. Nice pool area with pool bar. Restaurant is very good. Easy to charge everything to the room and pay once upon checking out. Loosely managed, poor communication. We booked massages upon arrival and when we confirmed the massages a couple days later they did not have them booked. Then when arriving for the massage no one was there. Massage therapist was running late but when she arrived nothing was set up. She had to look for a massage table and get things set up. Because it is more remote, a changing menu or daily special would be a nice restaurant option. On-site organized activities would also be a nice option. If you book any excursions give yourself plenty of time for your transfers off the North island.
- Roseann (10/5): Exceptional - My daughter and I recently had the pleasure of staying at El Ben Cabanas for our spring break getaway, and it was truly a memorable experience from start to finish. Situated in an excellent location, this charming retreat offered us the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, with a special mention to Mr. Papi, whose exceptional hospitality truly made our stay unforgettable. He went above and beyond to ensure that we felt right at home.
The accommodations at El Ben Cabanas were nothing short of fantastic. Our cabana was cozy, clean, and beautifully decorated, offering all the comforts of home and more.
Overall, I cannot recommend El Ben Cabanas highly enough for anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway. The combination of excellent location, comfortable accommodations, and exceptional staff, especially Mr. Papi, truly sets this place apart. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable experience!
- David (9/5): Bicycles and beaches with a little oasis of its own - The cabanas are spectacular: clean spacious, well appointed, and with great toiletries! They pick you up by boat at the water taxi terminal, which is a wonderful way to simplify your day! The property is large, private and perfectly maintained. The restaurant at El Ben offers above average meals. And despite not having a swimable waterfront, being on the less developed side of “the split” means you can easily take a bike and travel up island to a place called Bliss Beach, which is its own gem! N/A
- Graeme (10/5): Had a wonderful stay at El Ben. Wasn’t sure to book after reading a couple of reviews saying the cabanas were on the nor - Cleanliness
Staff
Golf cart use
Boat pick ups
- Jay (10/5): Superior service with a Belizean smile! - They staff and manager were so great! They upgraded our room to sea front as our room was not ready. The restaurant was top notch. I had come to the restaurant last trip and that influenced us choosing to stay a few nights.
The best thing …. We were checking out and the other place we are staying a few nights stated they were picking us up. They sat us there for an hour saying there on the way and the manager just said let us take you there. Great service and I would recommend to anyone!! Nothing
- Marta (6/5): Pleasant - I liked the vibe and the cabana was really beautiful.
The tacos night was really good.
I liked you can take the bikes. The cabanas don't have any private beach and you need to take a boat every time to go to the other part of the island where all the restaurants abd beaches are located.
- Michal (10/5): A top location in Belize - We loved 3 things: a) the stylish and well designed “cabanas”, fully equipped, super clean and spacious, with very comfortable mattresses, b) not too wide, still absolutely sufficient offer of wonderfuly prepared meals and - last but not least - the natural friendliness and willingness to help of all the staff.
Thanks to all of you, guys, you made our stay a great vacation! Hard to find anything without being overpicky.
- Jonni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Snyder (9/5): We loved staying at El Ben Cabanas and would love to come again! - El Ben Cabanas was wonderful! I would say, probably the very best in terms of amenities and beauty. The staff were all very friendly and helpful! Food was delicious! They provide a boat transport from the main island. It did not necessarily stay on schedule. Its important to communicate with the hotel if you are planning to use it, just in case.
- Lauraleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was beautiful!! The staff was amazing and so attentive. We enjoyed our couples massage. We enjoyed the Valentines dinner and the service by the pool. We asked for a floaty, drinks, an umbrella and towels they were promptly delivered with a smile. Definitely will recommend this magical place to our friends and family. If you want to spend some time living in a place that looks like a postcard, El Ben is it!!
- Robert (10/5): 1st time in Belize/Caye Caulker - Staffing was excellent... Mag, Nick in the restaurant were are most frequent servers/bartender. Tyra and Harold (?) were very accommodating in their management roles. The water taxi crews were awesome also... have to apologize as I only remember one name, Justin🙄. But, each was helpful, gave us hints, and extremely friendly.
It is a very nice property, but the staff made it special. One pool was still under repair so there was no reason to run the pool bar. However, the restaurant isn't but a 2 min walk away.
For those that like night life this part of the Caye isn't for you. Quiet, peaceful, 3 other restaurant/ bars, yet only a short water taxi ride away from a busier small village atmosphere.
- Rani (10/5): Best place to stay in CC - Everything but mostly the management team and specifically the resort manager The pillows
- Claudia (9/5): Superb -
- Claudia (9/5): Superb -
- Neda (10/5): El Ben is simply fabulous. The location, the accommodations and amenities, and the staff were all ex - El Ben is simply fabulous. The rooms are wonderful, the entire facility is beautiful, and the staff is incredibly knowledgable and helpful. They scheduled a great tour for us, and figuring out transfers to and from was a breeze.
- Pascal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (8/5): It was nice because of the restaurant. - The food at the restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Cound not recommend it more. It was great! There was really no place to lounge. There were no places to sit on the beach or pier and the area around the pool was very limited. There was no shade at the pool and places were limited. It would have been nice to have a place to sit outside in nice shade with a nice view to talk to friends..
- Kevin (10/5): My stay was awesome. I will return. Tyra (front office ) and Alan (water taxi and golf cart driver) were EXCELLENT! M - I like how the property is secluded from the rest of the activities on the south side of the island. But it was very easy access to the Southside of the island if anytime I wanted to go to it. A simple walk to the front desk or WhatsApp request to the front office and they can arrange a golf cart to take you to dock. The golf cart ride is about 5 minutes. Once you arrive at the dock, for about $2 a small boat can take you across to the Southside of the island where all the activities are at.
- Najee (9/5): This has been an extraordinary 24th Birthday Vacation - Everything was awesome Bugs in room
- Noel (10/5): The hotel staff made our stay more enjoyable than what we expected. - The hotel staff were amazing. Specifically, Tyra/RJ/Karen/Magdaleno/Melvin. It was an amazing hotel with a great location. Food was great! No mini fridge
- Jessica (9/5): Superb - Property was very clean Mini fridge did not work! No phone in room! Beverage and food manager was very rude & was highly unprofessional. Beverage & food manager had removed bartender from restaurant and there was no bartender to serve any customer. She made me feel very un comfortable by standing at the the bar watching and giving bartender a dirty look.
- Kingshuk (10/5): A gem to stay in a secluded place in Caye Caulker - Secluded location away form the croud on the north side of Caye Caulker. Boat ride to the dock on the south side of Caye Caulker is only 5 mins and is complimentary. Both the qulality and the quantity of food in the restaurant/bar inside the property are excellent. You must try the Belizian breakfast and the prices are quite reasonable. Rooms are superclean. Highly recommend this facility to everyone visiting Caye Caulker. Nothing much. You can hear people talking in the next cottage from inside your room. But that should not stop anyone to enjoy this property.
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Crosson (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): Very tranquil and relaxing environment. Great staff, and boat crew. - The breakfast was okay, not as good as their lunches. The waffles were dense and looked undercooked.
- Keena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): I’m not sure where to begin. The staff, restaurant, both bars, the pools…..were all fantastic. Their staff were there wa - Clean and friendly staff That I didn’t plan to stay longer.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Audi (8/5): Very good - The facility was beautiful and staff friendly. They accommodated all of our request expeditiously. Lack of ceiling enclosure for the bathroom. A/C didn't cool down the room during the second 1/2 of the trip.
- Annabel (8/5): A great 2 night stay with a fantastic staff team! - All the staff we met were exceptional. Really friendly and went out of their way to look after us. For example they decorated the room with balloons and banners for my daughter's birthday which she was thrilled about and also took us early one morning to visit the north part of the island. Our room was clean and spacious and the hotel layout meant it was a nice rest from the busier south island. Other than the address and check in time we did not receive any arrival instructions and having e-mailed in advance to ask about crossing The Split assumed we needed to travel this route to access the hotel from the south island. However on arrival at the hotel we learnt there was a direct complementary hotel boat from the main south island ferry terminal. When we mentioned this to the reception staff they were very apologetic and said they would ensure full arrival details were added as a welcome e-mail for future Booking.com guests.
- Krystal (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - El Ben was a beautiful experience. Quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff was very accommodating and made my birthday stay memorable. Murlie, the manager made sure our stay was unforgettable and she was very friendly. The restaurant was nice in its location but the food was just...ok at best. They definitely need more variety to the menu.
- Brandi (7/5): Good - The resort was beautiful. Our room was awesome and the restaurant was great. The walk back to the room with all the solar lights shining on the paths was lovely. The food was great. The drinks were awesome and the restaurant staff made our trip. Melvin, at the bar, put such care into every drink garnish and we all talked all night. I didn't realize that the resort was separate from the rest of the Caye and we had to walk about 10 min to a boat that took us accross the water to the other side. It wasn't a big deal but I would've gone out to the main strip more often if I were closer to it
- Sonia (10/5): a beautiful remote getaway - the staff mostly were lovely and kind - i loved the peaceful location. I felt it was slightly overpriced, there's no beach and there smells from the seaweed and septic tanks were obvious.
Also, too many sandflies, I was eaten alive - maybe some additional ways to mitigate (like mosquitio coils or insect repellant cancles that would have provided more comfort during my stay.
- Laurine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (9/5): Superb - The cabanas are beautiful and well appointed. The grounds are meticulously kept. The staff are very attentive, helpful and warm, plus the restaurant served some of the best meals we had throughout our vacation.
- Silvia (9/5): Superb -
- Martha (9/5): Quiet. Great food. Wonderful staff. Great location and facilities. - The hotel was wonderful, especially the staff. Everyone was very professional and friendly The hotel is very clean. But take one step outside the property on land or water and it is very dirty. The hotel should also contribute to the cleanliness of the neighborhood.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marc (6/5): Pleasant - Nice rooms and good (and expensive) food at the restaurant Isolated overpriced hotel with little to no activities to do and average service.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (10/5): We’re so happy we chose El Ben when we booked a last minute Christmas/New Year’s trip to Caye Caulker to celebrate o - The property was a small intimate getaway location in a gorgeous setting right on the water. The cabanas were spacious and clean and provided for a neat experience - the wind blowing through the thatch roof at night made for amazing sleep! I loved being on the north side of the split, it was so peaceful and El Ben is only a short walk or bike ride from the split.
- Jenda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mohamed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (6/5): Amazing staff, great cabanas, some things do (yet) not fit the concept and be careful with the final bill! - 1. The staff (captains, bar/restaurant, cleaning, security etc.) was amazing, very friendly and helpful! They really do a great job and are very positive!
2. The cabanas are beautiful, much space, well decorated and very well matching the surrounding.
3. The food in the restaurant was really delicious.
4. The concept for the location is really nice. 1. The pool area: the 2 pools are quite small, not much shade, pool bar was not open during our stay, no cushions for deckchairs (the owner herself told us, they had problems with the delivery, she told my girlfriend twice to bring her something but it never happened)
2. Swimming in the ocean is not really possible, but we were told that this should be possible in the future.
3. Area is yet not finished (in one corner and the pier)
4. We booked with breakfast included. Upon check out, all breakfast receipts were on the bill and even there was written that it is included. I told the management and she became a bit nervous and said it shouldn‘t be included, they never do. But on the receipt and on booking.com it clearly stated that it was included. The bill, already very confusing as the receipts in the restaurant were in BZD and than on the final bill manually substracted always half of it to get USD (but sometimes 2 or 3 positions later), got even more chaotic when the manager substracted some numbers for the breakfast without showing. As we had to leave I finally paid (now USD was again reconverted in BZD…) the bill. But I don‘t have the feeling that it is correct and I can not verify it…
