Guest Reviews
- Travis (8/5): -
- Jaikishan (8/5): A very comfortable place to stay -
- Sheree (8/5): Very good value for the money - Good value for money The beds were comfortable and clean
- Major (9/5): - Angela was welcoming and accommodating. We arrived earlier than check-in but host was able to provide access for a freshen up. With an additional party member additional bedding was prepared which was greatly appreciated. We were accommodated in the Nun's cottage which was cosy and warm in a chilly autumn evening in Beechworth.
- David (6/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): Overall excellent - The cottage was great and location excellent There is no hairdryer or TV
- Arno Roosink (8/5): Excellent value - Excellent value and location. Good shared bathroom facilities as well as large communal area for breakfast etc
- Nockels (3/5): Sparse - situation. Easy to find and close to main shopping centre awkward access. very dim after dark. no TV, radio.
- sharon (5/5): - Lovely comfortable room Freezing cold shower in Autumn.Had been camping for days and was looking forward to a hot shower. Ran the water for ages but it was freezing. Not ok
- Allison (7/5): Lovely affordable place to stay close to all village amenities - Beautiful heritage building close to the centre Some noisey residents staying there at the same time. No fault of accomodation.
- Leonie (5/5): - It was easy walking distance to the town centre and a lovely old building The shower in a small tub was not great, there were no extras like a hair dryer, hand towel
- Joseph (7/5): Cosy and comfortable - I stayed at one of the two miners cottages. It was rcomfortable and cosy. The heating was good and the location great. The local IGA was within driving distance and so we're the restaurants. Nothing to dislike about the accommodation.
- Nigel (6/5): - location
'did the job' no where to sit except bed
shower was a struggle, size and shape
- Carol (5/5): Basic, clean accomodation. Stayed in Room 6. Would not stay more than 2 nights in such a small room. - The Old Priory is in a great location close to the Main Street and shops and restaurants/bars. Room was very small and double bed pushed up against the wall. Had the bunk beds had sheets I would have slept there rather than squashed in the bed.
Also there was a large group staying and at times it felt I was intruding on their space. Run out of milk the second day because of the large group.
- Brett (5/5): In fairness its a beautiful old building to look at, price was on the lower end but its very basic accommadation, more l - Location It needs a face lift inside. Rooms are as basic as you can get, just a bed and nothing else.
- Murray (8/5): Great deal! - Great location, clean & tidy good value for money. Nothing
- Nicolette (7/5): - Light in room from outside
- Edwards (8/5): -
- Jacob (8/5): Cool place to stay, good service, clean, comfortable, and affordable - v i b e s
very cool buildings Bit spartan, but reflected in the price. I'm not complaining
- Sharon (10/5): It suited our needs perfectly and we loved our stay. - The price got us in first but it is definitely great value for money and very comfortable. My only real issue was that we book two beds (my daughter and I ) but there was only the double made up so we had to use a sheet off the double. It worked out in the end but maybe there is someway of putting that on the booking.
- madeleine (9/5): - A very clean and comfortable stay
- Alexander (8/5): - Beautiful building, cozy location, cute and comfortable room. Will happily return. Not an issue per se, but hard to comment on the staff/hospitality as it was a self-check in. And no wine glasses in the room despite being in a prominent wine producing region.
- Tony (10/5): Absolutely beautiful - Didn’t stay for breakfast Location and heritage
- Quinn (7/5): -
- Holland (6/5): Comfort and good value for money. - We were happy to have an opportunity to stay in A historical building in Beechworth. The location is excellent. Our bed was A bit small.
- Jasmine (10/5): -
- Christine (2/5): Short - We arrived at the venue..beautiful building... . room was very basic. NO tv or any activities. I fell down the stairs near the lounge area down stairs and hurt myself and my partner booked us into another location and we moved to that motel..we did not stay the night in that beautiful building
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Prince (10/5): -
- Glen (10/5): -
- Kimberley (9/5): Marvellous, quirky, storied stay. - Thank you to the kind host who let me change my booking after I was stuck due to a cyclone.
Stayed in the nunnery, it was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. A beautiful building in a beautiful town :)
- Rebecca (9/5): Beautiful, unit, kind of strange atmosphere. Would definitely come and stay again. Would recommend - Beautiful and unique historical building. Something a little bit different. Enjoyed the novelty of sleeping in the nuns cell. Enjoyed the relaxed checkin. Didn't see any staff the entire time. Good value, no frills. A little noisy at sleep time with guests coming and going late night. Or perhaps it was ghosts
- Fatin (9/5): -
- Lucio (9/5): Thank you - great to see the old Priory sustained - Great location All good
- karen (5/5): - Great old building. The bathrooms were NOT close tomour room - difficult when travelling with a 4 yo.
The single bed slid out from the wal when I moved or sat up in bed
It was uneasant for my son to take his daughter to the men's bathroom. And a little smelly.
The women's bathroom displayed signs asking that sanitary napkins be placed in the " bags provided", bot there were no bags.
- Catherine (5/5): - Very basic breakfast and the curtains didn't block any of the spotlights

- Elizabeth (8/5): Perfect for cycling stopvers - This year we stayed in a double room shared bathroom. One really does feel the austerity of the nuns!
It was a 42° day, we arrived cycling from Wangaratta. The room had a fan going when we arrived. No AC but we knew that. Spacious showers. Cool guest lounge with two fridges wirh plenty of room for freezing water and cold items. A call ahead also resulted in a hot plate being provided so we could make our morning coffee. The breakfast provisions are simple and generous, especially given the nightly rate. It's really stuffy upstairs with no airflow.
- Niall Henry (9/5): -
- Catherine (5/5): - The lack of air conditioning or effective fan made the stay very uncomfortable On a hot night.
- Alan (7/5): -
- Leanne (9/5): -
- Jessica Jane (1/5): - The location and architecture We booked a stay at The Old Priory and upon arrival the building itself was very pretty, however the overall experience was extremely disappointing and upsetting.
From the moment we arrived, the place felt very dark and depressing with dim lighting throughout. We did not see a single staff member during our entire stay and had to check ourselves in without any assistance. There was no welcome or explanation of the facilities.
The room itself was poorly equipped. It had one double bed and two bunk beds, but only one blanket on the double bed and no bedding at all on the bunk beds. There were no bedside tables, cupboards, or storage areas, so all of our belongings had to be placed on the floor. The room was very hot, with only a small fan that did nothing to cool it down.
The bathrooms and toilets were shared and located two floors below us, which was very inconvenient. The toilets had very little toilet paper, and the men’s and women’s toilets were right next to each other with both doors open, offering very little privacy.
We checked in around 5pm, dropped our bags, went out for the evening, and returned around 11pm. While getting ready for bed, we discovered bedbugs on both the top bunk and the double bed. They were small bugs actively crawling on the beds, which we unfortunately squashed. We were completely disgusted and felt unsafe staying there.
At 12:50am, we tried calling the property using their advertised 24-hour contact number, but no one answered. Due to the seriousness of the situation, we immediately left and drove all the way back to Geelong, not arriving home until around 5am. As soon as we got home, we washed all of our clothes and belongings to avoid any possible infestation.
The next day, I contacted the property and spoke with both a staff member and the manager.

- anna (9/5): Great budget stay - Great budget accommodation. Booked last minute on a whim. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast of cereal or toast was also included which we did not expect. You are basically staying in a nun's cell but the bed was very comfortable and the shared bathroom spotless. If you want a bed and a loo at a budget price I would recommend this. The building itself is majestic and within and easy walk into town. If you have dodgy knees the stairs may be an issue but overall loved this place!!
- Caiti (9/5): -
- Nicolette (8/5): - Friendly owner. Also the bed was super comfortable! Close to town, yet nice quiet location. The whole place was spotlessly clean. Beautiful heritage house. The double rooms need a little love. No bedside table and reading lamp, this would make it perfect! The light came in from the outside hallway very bright. Ended up buying eye mask. Maybe a curtain or blind for window above door. Sad there is no access to the outside verandah. Would have been nice to hang out and have a cupper. Stayed around 10 years ago and there was access and tables and chair on verander.
- Mairi (8/5): -
- Angela (7/5): - Budget friendly, great location.
- Tania (10/5): -
- Tom (8/5): -
- Alex (5/5): Adequate stay but not our preference for a longer stay - Impressive building, clean, convenient parking and breakfast next morning, adequate for one night (experiment). No air conditioner ( hot night) and shared bathrooms down the hall. No clothe storage. Did not see or meet any staff, only a phone conversation to advise a late arrival due to storms
- Jordan (8/5): -
- Ebony (5/5): - It's a real shame to see such a beautiful building neglected inside, the strange space was reminiscent of my most tragic school camps. Which, to be clear, is fine. This would be a very cool space for a bunch of school children or large travelling groups.
The owners need to work out what they want from this building.
0 staff, almost no facilities (out of date, stale bread and tiny soap in a terrible communal bathroom) to name a few things.
The room was fine with a capital F. I had a terrible sleep due to the light coming in from the front flood lights, and the strange smell encasing the whole space was odd and off-putting.
Bring your own pillow, coffee and soap and you have yourselves a fine time (as it was for us.)
But this is not an accommodation set up for travelling guests. It shouldn't be listed on this site. The mother with her young children guarding the unsecure female showers was completely valid and a great summary of my feelings about the space.
I don't believe it safe for solo travelling, especially if you're a woman.
I'm regardless grateful to explore a beautiful building.
- Aaron (8/5): A very nice stay was had - Location and cleanliness The shiwering situation
- Katherine (7/5): Unique, quirky, Spartan, great location - The location is great, the outside of the building is very beautiful. It is unique, quirky and memorable and a cheap place to stay. Very clean, the bed was comfortable, water was hot. While I appreciate how rare it is to find affordable accommodation, and the management are obviously trying to run the place as cheaply as possible, a few small touches could make this place a much nicer experience for guests. Warm white globes instead of the harsh and garish cold white ones that are there, an extra towel to stand on when you get out of the shower, a few more hooks to hang things on, fly screens on the windows. These are inexpensive things. Maybe paint the brown wood walls in the tiny bedrooms, they are oppressive looking. There was very little sign of anyone working there, it was like it was run by ghosts! It is vaguely creepy inside, you don’t want to let your imagination go wild! The rooms are extremely small and Spartan, but for the price that was expected.
- Vickii (8/5): -
- Simon (7/5): Cheap and well located - Cheap, comfortable , an impressive old building. Very central to town. No staff in evidence. … maybe because It was Christmas Day.
Room has a bed, a suitcase rack, an oil heater and 2 double power points.
- Isla (10/5): -
- Dr (5/5): Okay…A very tired old property in a good location. - Location More basic than the online presentation would have you believe.
- Adam (8/5): Everything I needed, nothing extra - Value for money, clean and easy self check in A lamp in the room would be nice. Only had a ceiling light. The pedestal fan was appreciated though.
- Cameron (1/5): -
- Anthony (10/5): Beautiful Historic Building Oozing with Charm - Historic character building that just oozes with charm. We had a room with shared shower and toilet facilities but they were spotlessly clean and conveniently located, and it provided an opportunity to meet snd chat with fellow guests. Will absolutely stay here again when next we visit Beechworth😃
- Carolyn (8/5): Convenient, quiet and comfortable - Great location. Stayed in the cottage which had an ensuite. Could use a little update. Had a funny foot bath.
- Natasha (9/5): -
- Niels (7/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Heather (7/5): -
- Isabelle (7/5): -
- Miannah (8/5): - Very close to town, nice sized rooms for price Rooms with no aircon or screens on windows. Very cold at night in the rooms and hallways
- Patricia (8/5): In the heart of Beechworth. Beautiful historic buildings exceptionally well maintained and preserved. A continental brea - Grand old buildings. It’s history and location. Maybe the nuns weren’t allowed to watch TV, but the rest of us aren’t signing up to the order. We would like one.
- Leanne (8/5): -
- Louise (10/5): - We were a group of 4 on a girls' weekend in Beechworth. This was our second stay at The Priory, both times we've stayed in the miners cottages. Absolutely love them. Cute, cozy, quiet, great value for money and super close walking distance to the main street. Love the history of this beautiful building. Angela was amazingly accommodating on what must have been a very busy weekend for them. Super grateful, thank you! The lighting is dim and the mirror in the bathroom steams even with the fan on, so if you're fussy about make up, take a mirror so you can do it outside on the balcony.
- Danielle (7/5): -
- Elizabeth (4/5): A very average overstay! - It is a convenient location- close to the main shopping area This is our second trip and on both times items in the room did not work! This weekend the TV did not work because it is old and analog- which the owners knew about! The old TV needs updating with one that works.
The small mattress in the room is old and excessively soft man it needs to be replaced with a better quality single mattress! The rooms are tired and very basic eg need a small kitchenette area with a microwave ( which we requested and got from the owners). Old and tired furnishings - all of which need updating and improved in terms of quality!
- Shepherd (3/5): - It wasn't what we expected, as my wife has had spin and open heart surgery. We needed a toilet and ground floor service. We did not stay at the priory, we booked through you the views motel in Yackandandah

- Viktor (10/5): -
- Katrina (5/5): -
- Debra (10/5): -
- Phillip (5/5): -
- Darren (1/5): Very bad - Nothing The Tv had only 2 channels no cold water couldn’t wait to leave
- Coralie (9/5): It was such a good stopping point between Canberra and Geelong - Lots of stairs!!! Good excuse for exercise which I did lots of. Would perhaps have liked access to more of the grounds but definitely no complaints.
- KYLE (8/5): -
- Forbes (5/5): -
- Narelle (8/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Had a wonderful time - Quite good location very clean The shower, we couldn’t climb into it and no rails all the way to the cottages Not good with disabilities
