Guest Reviews
- rex (10/5): excellent choice for a stay in Strathalbyn - breakfast was excellent, as was the bed. The "stables" is a right sized for two unit, very easy to navigate. disability parking is not a legal requirement for a small car park, but it would be a welcome improvement
- Kate (6/5): Good location and you can walk to town. Thanks for having us! - Quaint charm. Lovely gardens. Supplied a delicious breakfast for us to cook up! Spacious cottage! One of the bedrooms is in the same room as the front door. Not ideal. Need to improve check in process to ensure mix ups don’t happen.
- Fiona (10/5): Tranquil and relaxing. - Beautifully appointed cottage with ample supplies to ensure you don't have to make your first stop the supermarket. The gardens surrounding the cottages are magnificent. Hosts, Heather and Graham we very friendly and most hospitable. Didn't stay long enough.
- Peter (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. - Lovely hosts..Very accommodating and beautiful clean cottage. Super comfy bed.
- Paula (10/5): Very convenient and comfortable - Breakfast was great. Location was excellent. Comfy and very homely. Gardens are beautiful. Road noise, we are from a quiet country town.
- Julie (8/5): Enjoyable and comfortable. Pretty place in an older style. -
- Jennifer (10/5): Great Romantic Stay - Lovely comfortable cottage with nice little extras and a Spa bath.Loved the breakfast provisions supplied and decanter of Port to enjoy . Also received a bottle of wine on arrival Lovely gardens to walk around in too . Close to the centre of Town Should have stayed longer
- Marjorie (9/5): Heather and Graham were lovely hosts -friendly and super helpful -offering fresh towels half way through and friendly ch - We loved the Sables —such a pretty character place with thick stone walls! It was very useful to have a good air conditioner and fans and a super comfortable bed!! I did struggle a little with my arthritis getting in and out of the shower over the spa!! Heather was glad to hear from me that the water temperature was hard to control and she is going to attend to that but otherwise everything was wonderful !
- Jo-Anne (10/5): -
- Coralie (10/5): - Our party of 6 stayed in The Garden Suite and The Manager's cottage. Both were lovely. Excellent breakfast ingredients were supplied. Heather and Graham even provided 2 bottles of wine as a welcome gift and the port was a wonderful surprise bonus!
The gardens were a joy, so beautifully kept and so peaceful with lovely nooks and crannies to sit and relax.. Even the chickens came to visit us. Nothing to dislike.
- Steven (4/5): Property decor did not have old world charm, it felt like staying at a deceased estate. - Location was great. Complimentary port. 1. Gardens were run down, could not find an outdoor chair that wasn’t covered with bird poo.
2. Fairy lights that keep you awake flashing all night.
3. Front door requires a bottom seal to prevent insect access.
4. No wash up cloth.
5. Cleanliness leaves room for improvement.
- Ian (8/5): Comfortable, convenient and a great vibe. - The location is brilliant. The feeling of being in the award-winning garden was soulful, relaxing, and significant. We love the hosts and feel that staying at Gasworks supports the positive energy and community input of this special couple. The room is feeling a little tired, having stayed in this room a number of times over the years. It's probably booked in for a bit of a makeover fairly soon.

- Rex (8/5): Very good place to stay at Strathalbyn - Good breakfast
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - Location
- Kathy (10/5): Very comfortable and enjoyable stay. - Breakfast provisions were great and central location to everything.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Lynne (7/5): A quiet week in Strathalbyn. - Beautiful gardens. Plenty of space inside.lovely verandah front and rear. Loved sitting watching the huge flocks of corellas and the occasional bullied kookaburra. .large bathroom. With the exception of an oven (not included in the description but would be a bonus) the kitchen is well equipped. Close enough to walk into town. Breakfasts left were good and meant we did not have to rush out to shop for food on arrival. There is no hot tub or washing machine which were stated in the listing. There was a spa bath but that is not a hot tub. Right on main road so truck night trains can be heard. A note was left informing of the laundry across the way which was a bit cheeky as the property stated a washing machine included.
One of the bedrooms is private with closing doors but the other one is open to the entry way and living room so not really a bedroom unless bringing people you are very close with.it was fine for us with our daughter as a 3rd person but elderly parents or couples need to be aware
Front door lock difficult and as a fire exit...dangerous. Lock jammed whilst we were inside and owners had to attend. If a fire started in the kitchen then we would have been trapped as that was the only other egress. The third exit door was locked.

The fresh eggs 🥚 bread 🍞 delicious 😋.
The dog 🐕 Jack and the chickens 🐔 wondering around.
Thanks Heather Graeme and Jack.

- Christine (9/5): We enjoyed staying in this cute cottage, cooking breakfast one day and breakfast in town the next. F - Well equipped- everything we needed was provided. Fresh eggs and bacon for breakfast and what we needed to cook this. Only white bread which we don’t eat but a good Woolworths was available. Friendly hosts. The towels were a little thin and no air con in bedroom but the ceiling fan was okay with air conditioning in main room. We arrived in extreme heat.
- Wendy (9/5): Heather & Graham were excellent hosts, & provided lovely accommodation, in a relaxing garden setting - Location was good. Garden was exceptional, so much to see with places to sit and enjoy the birdlife in the many trees. Bed linen was a little below standard. Excellent cleanliness and and comfortable bed.

- Kirsten (9/5): Totally fabulous old-style Gasworks cottages in a great location to explore the Hills and Fleurieu. - The location was fabulous and the owners were welcoming and non-intrusive. They had thought of everything a guest could desire. Not a thing.
- Tracey (9/5): A lovely couple of days! - Location was good, an easy walk to the shops etc. The property has beautiful grounds, a credit to the owners and the breakfast provisions left for us were great to have bacon and eggs both days.
We were there for a wedding so didn’t get to spend a lot of time relaxing on the verandah with a book which would have been fabulous, maybe next time! Nothing I can think of :)

- Tanya (8/5): Very good -
- Joanne (8/5): Lovely stay to end our tour - Great location, quiet & tranquil gardens, lovely suite, good supplies for breakfast
- Sally (8/5): Very comfortable. I would come again. - Quaint. Pierre de Ronsard roses (lots) and lots of other flowers. Birds and dog was mild mannered. Quiet on the whole. Lots of useful appliances etc Plenty of room. Heather was exceptionally helpful with my suitcase and other bags. I really appreciated that. TV worked well to give me Channel 27 (audio) with clear reception. Outside light and front door easily stays ajar when needed. Being able to take my car to my front door. No plugs that fitted the sink in bathroom. A bit old-fashioned. Electric blanket was turned on without telling me so that I became overheated in the middle of the night. Not much room to turn car.
- Johnson (8/5): We enjoyed the hospitality at - Historic! Stunning location and gardens. Friendly accommodating owners. Fantastic breakfast options. Dripping tap in bathroom. Spiderwebs in bathroom. But 98% of everything was fabulous
- Jonalin (10/5): A beautiful warm welcoming cottage set in magnificent gardens run by the most friendly hosts. - Breakfast provisions were delicious, cottage was so comfortable and inviting and had everything we needed and the hosts Heather and Graham were so friendly and accommodating, greatly appreciated. That we only booked 2 nights we needed longer!

- Michele (9/5): Superb - Beautiful gardens, well presented. Lot of history in the building. Sleeping in a Sofa bed
- Linda (10/5): Excellent - Beautiful gardens .close to restaurants and cafes
- William (6/5): A pleasant stay in a well-restored historic setting. - The location was convenient to the older part of town. The garden surroundings (with swiftly-running river Angas) were lovely. The advertised WiFi was free but very patchy. It was disappointing not too be able to receive ABC TV.
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful spot with the accommodation having everything you need and more
- Olga (10/5): Wonderful and restful time away with all comfort needed. -

- Diane (10/5): Exceptional - clean well maintained venue nil
- Drabsch (8/5): No hesitation in staying at the Gasworks B&B next time - The extra items supplied ,the excellent conversion of historic building ,the surrounding garden and Heather and Graham were great hosts We did not like the shower over the spar .This would not be problem for younger people but being over 80 it was a bit of a challenge The other two apartments had good showers .We would book the cottage or the other unit next time .The cottage is exceptional
- Vassiliki (9/5): This is really a hidden gem of comfort, serenity and gorgeous scenery. - Stayed for a wedding nearby, location was perfect - nice walk to town, very close to wineries.
