Guest Reviews
- Tudor (5/5): Clean but isolated, overpriced and overrated - We were the only residents staying at this cluster of accommodation chalets, some 50 m or so from the road. It was very quiet indeed. The room is of good size. Location-wise, you'll be staying among cocoa trees which reach to your verandah, thus you won't see anything else. The free roaming resident dog will come to say hello, and he was way more interested in getting water and a rest in the air con than food. Not the property's fault, but you'll reach the property by driving on an unpaved road that will make you feel sorry for your car.
The cocoa plantation extends just a few metres from your room, and all else is either road or agricultural land, so not much else to do or see unless to drive somewhere else. The bathroom in our room did not have any shelves or a cabinet to put even the toothbrush, the sink has no lip to use, and the soap\bodywash\shampoo dispenser was missing, although the mounting was there. Hot water is via an electric instant heater which did not manage to go past lukewarm.
But perhaps the most of note was the absence of anticipation for the arriving guest for the tiny fridge was not on, there were only two mugs and one set of cutlery, no water (tap was fine, we were told, missing the point of it being as warm as the outside temperature), a small pot with some coffee (most of it in clusters), and no other dishes. With restaurants quite a while away, and the on-site place not offering anything else than one single breakfast option, this is really not good enough. Communication with staff was via WhatsApp and whatever action was required (provision of glasses, cutlery or a change of batteries for the air con remote) was then carried out by a person from the village.
- Koen (7/5): Good for a one night stop - Very friendly owner, nice porch, good bed. Very remote. No kitchen and no restaurant, so you’ll have to go find a restaurant at night, while you’re at a very remote location.
- Ville (10/5): - Host, Yorleny, very attentive and arranged us cocoa workshop which was wonderful.
Lovely accommodation in the midst of cocoa trees, and very close to Rio Celeste tubing options.
Highly recommended.
- Ana Cristina (10/5): Immersion in Rio Celeste genuine lifestyle with charme and comfort - Beautiful lodge in the middle of cacao plantation, Lenny the host was extremely professional and organized for us lovely activities, amazing cacao experience and sloth tour. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. Highly recommend.
- Christina (10/5): Exceeded all our expectations! We will be back! - This place was a real home away from
Home. The owner is very friendly and organised two incredible tours in the area. The cacao farm is very beautiful and the area is full of incredible wildlife. It is wonderfully quiet apart from birdsong and money howls. We also had an amazing cacao workshop at the farm which the entire family loved. We will be back for sure! We liked everything!
- Pascal (8/5): - Formidable endroit pour une déconnections totale. Excellente literie.
- Verinder (10/5): Ecstatic - This was one of the best stays ever, connected to nature, and the owner was very hospitable and tried her best to keep the experience good, breakfast was also very good
- David (10/5): -
- Zoerselse reiziger (8/5): Basic en duur - Propere kamers mooie natuurlijke omgeving
Vriendelijke ontvangst
Groot bed
- Guido (9/5): - Very nice rooms
Recommendation: book the Chocolate Tour Poor breakfast, no fruits, coffee with milk only instant
- Wesley (10/5): Wry clean and friendly - Very very clean. Host was very extremely helpful and responsive. She booked tours for us through excellent personal connections. Remote yet close to anything needed like groceries.
- Arun (10/5): - Neat little cabin. Toucans in the garden. Short walk to best tubing company (Onca). Breakfast was made ready early for us so that we could leave for our hike. Note unpaved roads leading in.
- Marleine (7/5): Cabin at cacao plantation - Lovely modern cabin on a cocao plantation. Great that we could use the shared kitchen.
We were in bad luck of having rain most of the time. But luckily the deck was covered properly so we could sit outside as well.
The location is a good base for visiting the caño negro district. About a good hour drive, 4x4 recommend though. We stayed in cabin #2 and even though there is a deck, there is no real view. Only a bit under and through the cacao trees. Bird watching can best be done from the common area.
Staff was only shortly on the property during breakfast and check-in/check-out. From other reviews we got the idea that there was a warm welcome with chocolate and maybe other things. Nothing of this was the case for us.
(A 20min)
- Biao (10/5): We will definitely come here again! - Cabin is like new and very spacious and comfortable. Setting is very peaceful and refreshing. Worth every penny. Host is very helpful and organized three top notch tours for us, which we could never have found on Expedia or Viator. None
Camera suggestiva, letto comodissimo.
- Paula (10/5): Comfortable stay on a cacao plantation with an option for an excellent cacao tour and hands on experience. - Comfortable and spacious cabin, good breakfast and excellent cacao tour and hands on experience for reasonable price. Property is a bit remote but easy enough to find and not far from Katira. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Francesca (10/5): -
Ontbijt is prima.
- Roxanne (8/5): Lovely! - The lady was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The cabin was spacious and we had two big beds. The breakfast was tasty and so was the coffee! The reception space looked nice with the hammocks All the doors were a bit rough to open and close. As a neurodivergent the road to get here was a bit too rocky, but nothing the property can do about. Just a heads up for other future guests. :)
- Manu (10/5): Perfectly amazing - It was beautiful and very clean Nothing
- James (10/5): Beautiful, clean accommodations with delicious breakfast. - Yorleny was an excellent host, she made sure we had everything we needed, was readily available to book tours for us, and arranged an excellent tour of a Cocoa plantation on our final morning.
She was extremely accommodating of our young children, and ensured we had an excellent stay.
The cabana was comfortable and large enough for our family of 4. It was clean and met all our expectations. Beautiful setting amongst the Cocoa trees.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, Yorleny made sure we were well fed before we set off on adventures each morning.
Very close to Onca tours for rafting, and centrally located for anything else you would like to do.
- Annette (6/5): Nice place, but overpriced for what you get. - It is a beautiful location and the rooms are nice and clean. It is totally overpriced for what you get.
We were asked at what specific time we would like to have breakfast. When we arrived on time for breakfast nothing was ready. We had to wait 35min which really messed with our specific mandatory time slot that we booked for our hike in the national park. The breakfast in itself was nice, but a juice for example was only provided after I asked for it. Also a shame that a car reeking of oil and gasoline was parked right next to the breakfast table. Not very pleasant.
Next, while there is a fridge, there aren’t any glasses or else to use for your own drinks or snacks. Sure we could have asked, but for the price I would expect this to be a given.
I can also confirm another review, that the showers are cold and only provide warm water if you turn it to a drizzle.
The mattress itself is comfortable but felt and sounded like it had some kind of plastic topping which made me feel like I am in a hospital.
The windows don’t have any nets on them which makes it hard to air out the space once it’s dark while the lights are on. Also the birds keep flying against the window.
Also not enough lamps in the room if you want to read in bed before sleeping. And most of the light fixtures come with a cold white light. Not cozy at all which is a shame because the room in itself is.
Lastly, I read a review about needing more chairs or a table in the room from quite a while back. And although the response from the host was to make amends this also hasn’t happened. No cupboard, no shelves, also nothing to properly use in the bathroom.
It does seem like a side hassle rather than a business.
All of that would be fine if it wasn’t so expensive.
I would come back if the price was lower but as it stands I would not return as I know I can get better value for my money.
- William (9/5): We stayed for one night on our way to Monteverde. - Secluded on a small cacao farm. Only a couple years old. Private bungalow. Wonderful home cooked breakfast included.
Got an excellent introduction to sustainable chocolate business.
Close to Rio Celeste. Short drive to National Park.
- Judy (8/5): Very good - The facility was clean and comfortable with 3 little cabins nestled amidst cacao trees, separated from each other. The setting was lovely and the host was very friendly and helpful. We especially loved the private tour of a family chocolate-making establishment, which produced great chocolate and was so educational. Breakfast provided one egg with fruit in the typical selection, whereas other locations gave us 2 eggs; seems petty but the extra protein always helps. The location is on a gravel road, off a gravel road, so was somewhat difficult to find.
Now that we know the location, we would consider staying again upon return.
- Catherine (10/5): Nourishing - Friendly very clean and nature abounds Nature
- Alessandro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philippe (10/5): Exceptional - It’s a pure paradise in the middle of the beautiful jungle of Rio céleste. Surrounded by Cacao plantation, with many perroquets 🦜. Sometimes, the place you stay will change the place you visite in the good way and that’s what it did. Very nice and quiet place to stay
- Michael (10/5): Excellent location and very welcoming staff. - The wine and chocolates upon arrival and the seclusion. It was a very spacious room and I enjoyed my stay.
- Kcaskey23 (8/5): An authentic Cabinas experience tucked away on a Cacao plantation - A unique experience tucked away on a Cacao plantation. Loved the family history and fact two sisters started the business and are focused on creating an authentic experience.
- Anna (10/5): Unique experience in a cacao plantation. - Unique experience in a wood cabinet inside the cacao plantation. Family plantation with passionate host. Recently opened and we looking forward to their future growth ! Also our host booked us a Great cacao tour . We highly recommend Nothing - we had a 4 wheels drive so it was fine for us to come but may be challenging if you don’t have a car as the road to go there are not in great conditions
- Maxence (9/5): Superb - The cabin in the middle of the cacao plantation with many birds around, and the very nice host The road to get there is a little rough
- Marc (6/5): Pleasant - Being in the middle of cocoa trees.
Friendly staff.
Local tour recommendations Just felt it was a bit overpriced for what it is. Could have included some fresh fruits for breakfast as well given it was a typical Costa Rican breakfast.
- Juan (9/5): Cozy and great experience - This is a great value for your money. The place is located closely to the main area attractions. The cabin was very cozy, and clean. The staff were very helpful, and helped you connect with different tours. Being inside a cacao plantation made the experience quiet different and joyful.
- Paula (10/5): Excellent! - Loved the location! Very nice place, Yorlenly and Brian are both the sweetest. Thank you both for your hospitality. N/A
- Julia (10/5): excellent!!! - Yorleny was a fantastic host. the room was very comfortable (Cabina 2) with two beds. Yorleny helped us organize a cocoa tour at Sibaeli and a private guide for the Park. the private guide Ruiz was also fantastic. Breakfast was very tasty (we chose Gallo Pinto). on the last day Yorleny offered a farm tour that we highly recommend! she took us through her cocoa plantation to her family’s farm where we milked a cow, drank chocolate with the fresh milk, pet some baby cows and then her mom made homemade tortillas and we got to try as well.
Yorleny showed us how she makes the cheese and then we had fresh tortillas with homemade cheese and sour cream. highly recommend this tour!
the location was perfect for us, close to Rio Celeste and our activities, and within 20 minutes of the park entrance. Yorleny is working on adding a light over the mirror in the bathroom, otherwise it just needs a chair or two in the room, but otherwise everything was perfect!
- Brian (9/5): Wonderful host and a beautiful property. -
- Corentin (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and comfortable place to rest as well as a nice base point for you driving around and visiting the national parc Tenorio. The host, Yorlene, will arrange for you anything you need: from night tour with local guides Luis and Arturro to cacao tour through even food delivery!
Don't hesitate to ask her to teach you how to cook local food, prepare the coffee like a Costarican or dance ;)
We stayed two nights and enjoyed the little house very much, each house gives a sense of privacy as they are slightly hidden among the cacao trees.
- Fraser (10/5): NEW quiet place. - Very quiet in very unique surroundings. Amongst cocoa trees
Beautiful wood interior and exterior. Nothing. It was lovely.
You should have a car if staying here.
- Maria (6/5): Pleasant - We requested to have breakfast at 8am the two mornings we were there, they served us breakfast half an hour later…it looks like they are not prepared to serve food, we have to ask for everything, even silverware.
It would be better they don’t offer and don’t charge for breakfast.
- Donall (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): Amazing. Owner operated. Very hands on - Beautiful little handcrafted place. Very peaceful under the cacao trees. Quite. Very friendly. Very helpful with places to go and where to eat
- Sheila (9/5): Good location and breakfast is good. - The place was lovely and with the Cacao plantation, but you need a car away from everything. Yelanda took us to the national park and we paid her the taxi fare. Need water in the room to start of and a hair dryer or one you can borrow, also the toilet bin needs to be emptied everyday.
- Lawrence (10/5): great place to stay - If you are one or two couples wanting to get away from the crowds and enjoy a more local experience, Cacahua Paradise Lodge is ideal. The amenities are exactly as advertised: comfortable bed, hot shower, high speed internet access, quiet, and privacy. Yorleny, our host, is fluent in English and took excellent care of us. She arranged private tours with local experts, one within a few minutes drive (a cacao farm) and two within walking distance (sloth viewing, and a night animal viewing). We also enjoyed a delicious home cooked dinner and full breakfast while relaxing at the Lodge.
- Nicholas (7/5): Good - * Unique location in cacao field Shower was cold. We rdered breakfast for 8am but it was only ready by 8:30am and breakfast was just ok. When I complained about the late breakfast the owner explained that her help was ill that morning which caused the delay. Can indeed happen but it delayed our own planning.
- Erin (10/5): Unique stay and great value for what you get - Your very private wood cabin is tucked right into the cocoa trees of this farm! A/c was strong, WiFi available and short walk to cool off in the Rio Celeste river that runs along the back of the property. Got to pet one of the horses who was sweet and came over to the fence and saw a sloth in one of the trees by the river!! Gracious hostess, I will be back!
- Patrizio (10/5): Pura Vida - Magnificent place in a cocoa plantation, with impeccable wooden cabanas and a great attention to every detail. You can eat and go for night excursions to admire amphibians and reptiles. You can park inside the property that is located 15 minutes from the Volcano Tenorio Park. We can not find bad things.
- Jan (10/5): Dream stay in the nature - Brand new spacious houses, very friendly helpful owner- it’s a exceptional place, we loved that. Highly recommend!
- Salil (10/5): Exceptional - New and in between the cocoa plantation. Perfect to relax. Small river at walking distance. Extremely friendly family running the same. They made breakfast for you in the morning. Helpful with suggestions around. Highly recommend None
- Genesis (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was clean and cozy! Very friendly people & breakfast was great. Definitely would stay again & recommend!
