- Soybin (3/5): Quería ducharme con agua caliente, pero NOOOO - La ubicación es bueno para irse al centro. No fucionó agua caliente.

- Butterfly (2/5): - Disappointing stay. The soundproofing is very poor, with way too much noise. The Wi-Fi is absolutely terrible unstable and basically unusable most of the time. The staff doesn’t speak English, which makes communication difficult. Breakfast is far from acceptable: no self-service, no variety, always the same food in very small portions. The drinks are bland and tasteless.
On top of that, the hotel name shown on Booking is not the real name of the hotel. I only found out the actual name by reading other guests’ reviews. This is unacceptable, as it is misleading and causes confusion, and the hotel does not mention or correct this anywhere.

- Claudia (10/5): - Ein wunderbares stadthotel. Top Lage.

- Gordon (10/5): Beautiful hotel, centrally located, good value. - The hotel is called Hotel Balcon del Arte. The entrance is set back from the street. I arrived late and was let in by the nightwatchman and given my room key directly. My street facing room was lovely. Large, clean and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was functional and clean. The shower was not always hot. Good wi-fi signal. Situated centrally, it was an easy walk to restaurants, shops and museums. The ladies who were on reception were friendly and helpful. Good value for money.

- James (8/5): Very good -
- Heidy (9/5): Superb -
- Oliwia (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (5/5): Passable - The location is convenient to the Historic center. The lights cycling outside the room every few minutes ( security measure). It illuminates the rooms through the light curtains and kept me from sleeping the entire 2 nights I stayed there. If they had room darkening curtains, it would be a great stay.
- Campbell (8/5): A pleasant experience. - Breakfast was simple but adequate.
- Veitch (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marguerette (10/5): If I come back to Cuenca, this is where I will stay, not at some of the others I've been to - The beautiful chandeliers, the wall paintings, the amazing staff, ready to help anytime needed Nothing I can think of
- Hugo (9/5): Very good and clean - Good
- Damir (10/5): An excellent hotel in Cuenca old town - This one is a true gem. I have no idea if I'll ever return to Cuenca, but if I do, I'll look no further than this place. A bit difficult to find even if it can't be located more conveniently than it is. There is absolutely no sign in the street to indicate that there might be a hotel at this location. Which, by the way, is called "Balcon del Arte". And NOT "Hotel en el Centro Historico". Anyway, you'll need to look for a relatively deep hallway, enter it from the street and at the end of it ring a bell. Once you enter, you'll see a wonderfully furnished establishment. Rooms are every bit as good, clean, hot water reliable and wifi steady. No English is spoken, but Google Translate makes things smooth. The staff are very nice and helpful so eventually everything is sorted out easily. Breakfast. But then again, it's not just this place. All across Colombia and Ecuador which were on my itinerary this time, the breakfast is the poorest item of the hotel service. Everywhere. So I guess I can't blame them specifically. It's just how it is, at least in this part of the continent. If you want to start your day with more food in your stomach, just make sure you have visited the nearest supermarket the evening before.
- Oliwia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heidy (9/5): Superb - The location was near famous sites. Due to light cuts, it was difficult to communicate with the hotel and we had to wait outside for some minutes. If they had told us about this in advance, it would have been better.
- Nicolas (7/5): Good - Good location and price. People from the hall can see the interior of the room from the window.
- Livi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (10/5): Great value in the heart of Cuenca - Amazing location, friendly staff, flexible checkout
- Livi (10/5): Very pleasant stay - I've really enjoyed my stay at the Balcón del Arte Hotel, after booking my room I instantly received a message confirming all the hotel details (hotel name, address, contact details) and on the day of arrival I was greeted by a very lovely staff member (I'm sorry, I don't recall the name!).
I received a key to my room as well as the front door, which is very helpful as it allows you to come and go without disturbing anyone. The room itself was clean, the bed was comfortable, bedding was warm AND... There's hot water in the sink and the shower! All my priorities have been met, so I can't complain at all haha
Another bonus was that despite it being 6 degrees Celsius at night during my stay, this has somehow been the warmest hotel room I've stayed in whilst visiting Cuenca, which was a nice surprise, especially as there's no heating.
Overall, this hotel offers the perfect location, perfect facilities, perfect care/treatment aaand the perfect price.
Thank you so much and I will definitely be back!
P.s. Regarding some things mentioned in the comments of previous guests:
- Someone mentioned light coming in through the curtains; the light in the corridor is turned off at night, so although it can shine through the curtains when it's on in the early evening, it's not a problem during the night. My room was pitch black.
- Someone also mentioned being concerned about the bathroom windows leading out into the hallway, because someone could potentially look inside... I don't think that's something to worry about, the windows are quite high up and someone would have to be very tall, or stand on something, in desperation to do that. 😅 One thing that didn't bother me personally, but which could potentially bother some people, is the music in the reception area. My room was by the stairs and although the music wasn't overly loud, I could still hear it muffled in the middle of the night.

- Gatigno (8/5): Name of the hotel didn't exist. - The hotel is not called Hotel en El Centro Historico. It's called Balcon del Arte. It took me 35 mns in a taxi to find it and 10$ instead of 2$ from the bus station. I had to stop at each hotel on the road to find the hotel asking if it was the hotel. Very very frustrating and unnerving!
- Endi (7/5): Good - The location is perfect, I walked everywhere.
The staff was really nice and they changed the breakfast option when asked to.
I liked that they cleaned the room only after I left the sign at the door.
The key opened the door so I didn't have to be buzzed in each time.
The room was nice and spacious and the bed comfortable. The bed in the first room I got had a lot of hair. I got another room with no problems which was a bit better. The bed still had some hair but less.
The towels and sheets had stains. The bathroom wasn't really clean, there was a half of used soap.
There was someone else's bagage tag under the bed.
The floor in the dining room was dirty and sticky, the tables weren't cleaned after the breakfast.
The breakfast was rather poor.
- Chrissy (8/5): Beautiful hotel and excellent value in a convenient location to do much sight seeing. - Very close to centro Mercado, my room was clean, pillows and bed was comfortable, and the waterfall shower was delightful. Breakfast was provided (scrambled eggs, toast and fruit with coffee and juice) Staff was super friendly, and allowed me a late checkout (2:00) as I had a flight at 5:00, which was much appreciated so I could get some sleep. The lady at the desk even helped hail me a cab when I left. The motion light in the hall went off repeatedly during the night, lighting up my room like a UFO was landing. I think it sensed the curtains moving because nobody was ever in the hall, and when I’d get out of bed, or even take a deep breath, the light turned on. Also, the walls are thin, as the man next me (on my second night) was a LOUD snorer and even with ear plugs, he kept me up, along with the light.
- Kathryn-jane (9/5): Superb -
- Cynthia (5/5): Passable - I was miserable with terrible altitude sickness, Angel, a staff member, ran out to get what I needed from the pharmacy, as well as other things to last me a few days.....,A very nice young man!!
- Lynn (7/5): Very nice for a short visit - Historic The stairs
- Hans (9/5): Perfect for a night or two. - Great location and very helpful staff.
- Mike (9/5): Nice stay in Quito - Good value - clean, comfortable. All good
- Rosendo (9/5): Superb -
- Hubensky (10/5): Exceptional value in great historical center location. - Excellent experience. I am a retired solo traveler from Canada. Stayed 2 weeks plus and found it great. The price is excellent and more than competitively priced. Accommodations are clean, quiet, safe, and convenient, with restaurants, stores, and the historic center nearby. The metro (Tranvia) to and from the airport is two short, smooth blocks away. I doubt there are better more economical rooms available. Enjoy!
PS. breakfast included. The name is Hotel Balcon del Arte and the entrance is a hole in the wall. Reception is about 7m back of the street through 2 security doors with buzzers. There was nothing that diminished my experience.
- Juan (8/5): Very good -
