Guest Reviews
- Steve (10/5): -
- Jill (5/5): - A great location near a tranquil wetland in savannah woodland country. The tents are sturdy and well constructed. The proximity of the next tent meant that the voices of the occupants disturbed the peaceful sounds and silence of nature.
For older people like us, the zips on the tent were a bit of a struggle.
The open-air bathroom is private but a nightmare in terms of comfort whilst toileting and showering because of the insects coming in.
- Ann (10/5): - Unique place, beautiful view from main lodge over wetlands, calls of wild black swans at night all under a full moon. Nothing
- Jade (10/5): It was exactly what we needed; a beautiful, relaxing glamp in nature to escape the hustle and bustle of Cairns - It was clean, simple, quiet and surrounded by beautiful scenery Not really anything

- Lorraine (10/5): Thank you to the business for continuing to enable people to stay at this special place. - The location is fabulous! It felt a privilege to be able to stay so close to a valuable wetland habitat. Great to have access to all the wildlife reference books (only missing one on reptiles) The information provided was excellent as was the staff communication. The accomodation was spotless and welcoming. We especially valued the fact that it is a place where the well being of the natural inhabitants is given priority over human expectations. Perhaps storing the crockery and cutlery inside the pantry area will reduce the ‘little messages’ left on them from the resident geckos etc. we also made a suggestion to the onsite manager that, in keeping with an environmentally conscious establishment, there was no need to supply individually packaged toiletries. They could be an opt in option on booking or provided in bulk refillable containers. I would encourage you to provide a bit more information in the lodge about the broader objectives of the conservation work at the wetlands and future goals, as well as links for those who are able to make a donation to the ongoing mission.
- Lorraine (10/5): Fantastic place to observe wetland species. Highly recommend 2 night stay to soak up the serenity! - Wonderful opportunity to stay in a wetland conservation reserve where the welfare of the natural inhabitants is given priority and observe a multitude of species, especially birds. Great to have a number of reference books on hand to assist identification, and Sonya’s tips on where to look for some species. We feel that in keeping with the environmentally conscious ethos of the business, there is no need for the provision of individually packaged toiletries. Either clients can bring there own or refillable bulk containers could be substituted.
- Linda (10/5): - A real glamping experience ! Quite exceptional. Huge communal area with tables overlooking the wetlands and the ever changing view. Very peaceful with everyone whispering! Wonderful. Nothing
- Stephen (1/5): There was a fire near the property with access blocked by police and smoke related health issues, as well as danger issu -
- Lee-annP (9/5): We had a wonderful stay here which was peaceful and quiet, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. - Amazing location and wonderful facilities. The tents were great. will return again in winter.
- HUNG CHI (10/5): -
- Gail (10/5): - Comfortable and relaxing, wonderful staff.
- Jasmin (10/5): -
- Sam (9/5): - Great birdwatching No wifi at tent
- Margit (10/5): Highly recommended for nature-lovers - The tents and the beds are very comfortable. Sitting by the lake and let the day pass by is wonderful relaxing. Sonja takes good care and is very sympathic. Lot of wildlife, like out of australia
- Graeme (10/5): - We had the place to ourselves - no staff on site, but everything in place. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable tent accommodation. And of course great water views. WiFi wasn't working, but understand that was being fixed.
- Kazuhiko (10/5): -
- Leanne (10/5): Highly Recommended - It was quiet.. surrounded by nature and a truly wonderful experience. I didnt stay long enough.
- Catherine (8/5): -
- Meredith (10/5): Beautiful location, perfect for nature lovers - The reserve is incredible, lots of wildlife. You get exclusive access by staying there. And the accommodations (glamping huts) were perfect. Wish there was a restaurant, though the DIY breakfast and guest kitchen were wonderful.
- Greg (5/5): - We really loved the location. Solitude amongst the Australian bush.. Sunset dinner on the deck.
Great staff. Unfortunately, we didn't stay the night.
We left early, feeling quite uncomfortable because the zippers on the front entry to the tent didn't zip up along the floor securely, allowing the possibility for snakes to enter the tent. Deadly snakes.
We've glamped a few times around the world so this wasn't our first time.
We are country people born and bred. We are very familiar with wildlife. However, we didn't like the idea of sleeping there with a risk of them entering our domain.
Decided to forgo the cost.
- Cherie (9/5): - Beautiful location and great facilities.
- John (5/5): - Tents are too far from water without a view. Walking tracks are very limited
- Ceresa (9/5): -
- Carol (9/5): Lovely - Quietness No comfy chairs inside.
- Rebecca (10/5): Peaceful little gem! Wow! We’ll be back soon! - Everything was perfect! We’re so happy we found this little gem. It gave us everything and more. Sonya was super lovely and helpful as well. We can’t wait to go back and experience the nature, amazing tent, fantastic bed and the overall peaceful energy we experienced. Thank you Sonya! We will be back!
- Dorothy (8/5): A peaceful stay - Beautiful peaceful location
Great staff
- Marcus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pronger (8/5): Great for people who want the whole australian bush, wetlands experience. - Great for me as a bird photographer; it is quite isolated. Great kitchen at the communal lodge.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Absolutely loved our stay! The location is awesome—quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. Perfect for anyone looking to unwind and disconnect. The place was spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The fan was way to noisy
- Abge (9/5): Superb - Loved the peace and quiet. The accommodation was very well appointed and felt quite luxurious. Saw some wild wallaroos and wallabys . Great place to get away and truly relax even if only for one night. We'll worth a visit
- Daniel (10/5): Nature Glamping - Family of five , Two weeks Brisbane to Cairns with car. Our best night sleep ( most comfortable beds ?)
Wild Nature Lodge!!!
For an outback experience, room interior, nature at your door step, stargazing, solar lighting showing the way;
separate kitchen & dining area overlooking the lake. ( Good Kitchen facilities! )
Bring mosquito spray after sunset.
Used 2 out of the 3 tent units.

- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - The beds were very comfy, and the location was spectacular.
- Leanne (10/5): Romantic get away - The self check in with email instructions is easy and exciting. What a fantastic accommodation, a beautiful setting, the sunset was fantastic and heaps of bird life to look and listen to.
The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, gorgeous linen and comfy pillows.
The BBQ area had everything we needed, we love the solar lights for the paths.
Highly recommended
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful, quiet and comfortable.
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Joanne (10/5): Super peaceful and calming stay. Sunset and sunrise was spectacular!!! The bed was so comfy. We’ll definitely be back - The view of the lake and the serenity The map and signage of where to park was a bit confusing but that’s about it
- Zeljko (1/5): Bad -
- Debbie (9/5): Superb -
- Hwee (10/5): Wonderful seclusion in a nature paradise - The location was really quiet and it feels like u have the whole place to yourself especially since we booked all 3 cabins for our family of 6. There were plenty of birds to see and we also spotted wallaroos.
The sunset is beautiful over the water and the starry night skies were stunning. Tents are surprisingly hot in the afternoon despite the cold weather outside but it got really really cold fast overnight. There's no heater so u have to rely on warm clothing even under their thick blanket to stay warm - something to note if u r going in june!
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (8/5): A lovely quiet stay - Very quiet and peaceful
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ann (8/5): Very good -
- Roger (8/5): Very good -
- Victor (10/5): Rustic camp-like experience in beautiful, secluded outback - Secluded in beautiful, natural surroundings. Rustic feel - like glamorous camping.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (10/5): Magical wilderness stay - It was pristine Australian outback location. The birds and wildlife was saw was phenomenal. As there are only 3 tented bungalows on the property it is really quiet and private, perfect for wildlife viewing. It’s a rough road to get there and having to take and prepare your own meals is a hassle, but worth it.
- June (9/5): Superb -
- Sam (7/5): Good -
- Jessie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (9/5): As a birdwatcher , this place is a Treasure but an absolute shame that it is now locked off totally - The Breakfast provided was perfect , loved the Jams . Coffee sachets were hard and solid but not a biggie . Last minute decision to stay the night and get a bit of nature , we were not disappointed . and the bed was so comfy and warm . Fresh coffee and maybe a plunger would top off the experience
- Meghan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelsey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Shaun (9/5): Great experience, average quality - Spent the time alone was really nice and private. Limited access, only 1 800m walking track. I understand it's a conservation area. But not enough adequate areas to explore for what you pay.
- Dominic (9/5): Superb - Amazing location. Nature at its finest
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - We loved this place - an oasis of tranquility. The birdwatching was fabulous. We went night spotlighting too and saw a few owls, loads of brushtail possums and even a Northern quoll on the entrance road, just before midnight. The kitchen and BBQ facilities are great, just remember to bring all your supplies with you.
- Lolita (10/5): Perfect spot to get away for a couple of days. The location is stunning, you’re in the middle of the nature. The propert - The view from the main building was stunning ! I would have loved to have the view from our lodge
- Kathy (10/5): Wonderful bird and mammal watching in comfortable tents. - What a beautiful surprise this was. You’re in nature and the tents and facilities were so comfortable and clean. It feels secluded and we heard the sound of nature overnight. Only 3 tents so it feels quiet and relaxed.
Make sure you take food and drinks but breakfast supplies were included.
Tents were so clean and comfortable and had all that you needed.
Sonia was an incredible host, looks after the place so well and made us feel so welcome.
Thank you.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location. So quite despite other occupants in nearby tents. Felt like we had the place to ourselves. Loved the bird watching.
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Heidi (10/5): Amazing location has everything you need and expect from glamping book now and enjoy the peace and tranquility - Amazing location super comfy bed with all the facilities you need. Kitchen area bbq was easy to use. Cabin included a fridge and fresh eggs and bread for breakfast. Not overcrowded only 3 cabins and fantastic walks views and tranquility definitely put this on your list of stays
- Trinh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louise (9/5): A fabulous place to stay and experience nature in complete comfort - The peaceful nature setting
- Julie (9/5): This place was a lovely get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy days we have now. - This place was a hidden little treasure along a little lake near Mareeba in north QLD. We stayed in a glam tent with mostly everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The bed, linen and pillows were a 10/10. So so comfortable. The tent came with a small fridge, bedside lamps and an outdoor balcony complete with table and chairs. There was a separate building on the water we we could sit and watch the sun go down. This was a little walk from our accommodation. whilst the sign stated the water was drinkable, it had a funny look, taste and smell.(Bottled water would be nice in the fridge on arrival) Whilst the note about the water put me at ease, it was one thing that I just didn't like. A separate baby Q on our balcony would have been nicer than the separate shared camp kitchen. It was awkward to cook somewhere and then eat in another area. Specifically, this kind of trip, we wanted to be isolated from others. (just lucky no one else was camping there). Privacy screening outside would be nice too. (maybe a row of trees between each tent would be nice)
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (7/5): Quiet and peaceful stay in a bush location. - Quiet, peaceful location in a bush area. Great views over the lake. Shared kitchen was well equipped. Great to wake up in the glamping tent to the serenity and sound of birds.
- Sang (9/5): Beautiful place and exclusive access to the wonderful wetlands that is teeming with wildlife. - Beautiful location, if you want to be surrounded by nature, this is the perfect place! My partner was not super in nature like I was but found it to be generally a nice relaxing time away. The semioutdoor shower was nice. I think it is good to have the kitchen and eating area separate - forces you to come out to the viewing deck and keeps the glamping tents free of scavenging wildlife. I only stayed for one night and found the brekkie provided to be ample enough for several meals for the two of us (eggs, bread and condiments) but I recommend packing food for lunch/dinner/snacks as well. Water is drinkable although has a brown tinge and metallic like taste due to the tannins from the eucalyptus and plants etc Does get hot and stuffy in the glamping tents during the day and we went mid-Aug where temps did not exceed 28'C. Helps to have the fan on and to air out the tent (thankfully not many mozzies during our stay). Some times was more pleasant to stay out in the deck when it is stuffy. But really you should spend time in the shared deck overlooking the wetlands or go for a walk around to take in the abundance of nature during the day!
- Julie (9/5): Superb - This is really unique. Loved the lodge setting overlooking the conservation lake with many birds. Also saw Emu with babies and wallaby. We were only people staying, very special place, even if you don't really have an interest in birds. Nothing really, maybe better signs to follow to tents.
- Brealey (9/5): Superb - Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Very quiet location, being able to use the main lodge nothing
- Tamara (9/5): Superb - It’s is so beautiful out there and so peaceful. The only thing we didn’t like and it was minor was that the other 2 tents are right next to you and we thought we’d be more separated and private. A few things to do like board games or cards etc would be good as it’s very isolated and when it rains there is literally nothing to do but stay in the tent. But honestly minor issues, we loved it.
- Sol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (8/5): Wonderful place to see the Australian bush & observe wildlife. - The huge “homestead” where you could sit & watch the bird life & also prepare meals Could have had more walking tracks
- Sheena (9/5): Superb - Peace and tranquillity, beautiful sunset and evening watching the birds.thankyou for the various reference bird books..very helpful for foreign visitors .Very comfortable in the tents and good kitchen facilities.
- David (9/5): Superb - Great place to relax and unwind
- Damingarralinga (9/5): Superb - The natural environment. Breakfast supplied The cabins were a bit close together
- Sandra (10/5): It was a wonderful experience, such a special place. - The tents were spacious and well equiped. Bed was comfortable with warm doona which we needed.
The provision of eggs and bread and jam for breakfast was a lovely touch.
The main building was very special with a fully equipped kitchen and a wonderful view over the lake and wildlife.
- Robyn (9/5): Superb -
- Chie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (8/5): I totally enjoyed this beautiful wetland. - I like seeing the wildlife around the glamping tents, especially the Rufous Bettongs. The viewing deck over the Wetlands was spectacular, especially at sunrise and sunset. The caretaker was very informative, helpful and friendly. The cost was a little too high. i would have liked to have a kiosk on site for cuppas and cake. More walking tracks to bird hides would be fabulous. The compendium needs to be a little better eg with bird & wildlife lists especially as the site advertises it as a bird hotspot. I would like the lodge to made available to the local bird group as well and it opened back up to bird & wildlife surveys by Cairns Birdwatching Group & Birdlife Australia etc for a more nominal price, possibly 3 monthly and limited in numbers to say 20 members at a time. As a local I used to come to Mareeba Wetlands all the time and bring my visitors for a cuppa. It is a beautiful place to meet. It is such a shame that it is now limited and very costly.
- Julie (10/5): Bush Glamping Experience - Staying at Wild Nature Lodge was a real adventure. A glamping experience in the outback which bordered on an amazing wetlands. We saw egrets and black swans, kangaroos and an emu, as well as the starry night sky at its best. The tent was nicely equipped with tea and coffee facilities and a small fridge, and there was access to a full kitchen in the main building. Wifi was available in the main building as well. Half a dozen eggs and lovely fresh bread was a nice touch for our arrival. Nothing not to like....but be prepared for an unsealed road and a gate to unlock on the way in. Recommended to arrive in daylight hours because you are in the middle of the bush!
- Kristi (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning location on a privately run conservation property. We did not see another human at all which did not bother us one bit (self check in and plenty of info left by owners), as we loved the peace and serenity of feeling we had the place to ourselves - fully immersed in nature. Great place if you're a nature lover and like to birdwatch and spotlight! Lots of wildlife! Our cabin tent was really comfy with everything we needed, including a hot shower and flush toilets! Fully equipped guest kitchen and lovely balcony to sit for meals, overlooking the beautiful wetland. To top it off, we were given a complimentary breakfast hamper with eggs, bread, jams and milk! We were really impressed and absolutely loved it, and wish we'd stayed longer. Hidden gem!
- Rone (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the experience. The camp is beautiful and the amenities are amazing. Fantastic eye for detail and bonus like breakfast items included. I just missed sitting around a campfire. Otherwise I cannot fault this place. Will highly recommend it. That there is no option to make a fire. We love sitting by a fire when camping but understand it is a conservation area.
- Jones (10/5): Great bush stay - Lovely glamping accomodation nestled amongst the bush. Very comfy bed and amazing outdoor shower vibe. You have to walk to a BBQ area or the kitchen to cook. The water also tastes like dirt. No aircon, so in summer I would not stay here as it got super hot at midday even in June.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (6/5): Quiet, clean and away from everything - Remote and quiet. Clean and well signed. Like any nature place you see what is there. We saw swans, 2 sea eagles, 2 red tailed cockatoos plus egrets. Sadly didn’t see any animals. Shared kitchen is about 300 metres away. There are snakes, we saw a redbelly black, so use torches at night. You need mosquito repellent which is not unusual for up here.
- Jenny (10/5): All round exceptional trip, can’t wait to stay again - The facilities in the tent as well as the main area, the serenity, the view, the atmosphere, the wildlife
- Elizabeth (8/5): Probably wouldn’t do it again. - Breakfast was fine and kitchen was well set up. Having the place to ourselves was wonderful. Front steps at the front of the communal building were rotten. Barbecue needs a metal plate not just a grill. Having to drive to the bbq area and kitchen was annoying having to remember to take everything with you.
Walking trails were very few.
- Tony (10/5): An unforgetable experience - For us this was a fantastic experience. I was birdwatching through Queensland and this accommodation is in effect in the middle of a top quality wetland reserve. There are only three units in this private wetland and when we stayed we were the only people there. The units were excellent and the owners provided an excellent basket with fresh bread, eggs, coffee etc. The guests have the full use of what must have previously been the wetland reception area and it has a fully fitted, top quality kitchen. It was a surreal experience staying for three days on our own in a top quality wetland but an unforgetable one. There is probably a case that the owners could allow restricted day visiting as it seems a shame more people cannot enjoy the wetland. Probably the biggest thing I would change would be to open the tracks aroiund the wetland. A track that was previously in use around the wetland is now closed which is a pity. Allowing visitors to use the track around the wetland would further enhance what was already a great experience.
- Murray (8/5): A nice stay for a short getaway - Good More walks would be good
- Rebecca (9/5): Lovely stay overnight - We really enjoyed our one night stay here. The instructions to get to the property were very clear prior to arriving so made it easy to check in. The accommodation was super comfy and shower was great! Was also nice to have breakfast ingredients like bread, jam and eggs offered! The kitchen also had everything we needed. Nothing! I suppose just be aware that there is only one short walk available along the wetlands, so don't expect to be able to explore a lot. It's more of a place to relax and unwind.
- John (9/5): Superb -
