Guest Reviews
- Michael W (6/5): - Difficult to say Just cash payment, no WiFi, some info on booking are wrong .
Some tents are broken.
Many mosquitos, I booked and nobody knew it...
- Sophie (6/5): - The staff were really wonderful, and for the cheap option on the island it was good value for money. Felt immersed in nature and was fun to ‘rough it’ for a couple of nights, but any longer would have been too much for us I think! The outside space is very nice to chill in, with hammocks and nice solar powered lighting at night. They also offer tours, we did snorkling which was fun! The mattresses are very thin and uncomfortable, so I probably wouldn’t have wanted to stay more than 2 nights. Also the shower/toilet are manual (no running water) if that is something that bothers you. The kitchen is also not the nicest. All in all, it is very very basic so bare that in mind before you come.
- Maria (5/5): Sadly, I can’t really recommend it - It’s quiet and the area is quite nice and you can’t really hear the loud music from the beach club. The facilities are in a really bad state — it’s more „shabby” than „eco”. They are making efforts to reduce water usage so the shower is a bucket shower and there is no running water anywhere, but it could be done in a nicer way, adding a compostable toilet. The shower doesn’t have a wall, it’s a violet plastic, the toilet and kitchen badly need painting and some maintenance. When I got there there were dirty dishes everywhere, and I was the only guest. There were very few pots, all very old, and the stove itself was so dirty with oil that it burned after I turned off the gas.
The mattress in the tent is very thing so it’s not very comfortable and the tent itself was very stuffy — it would need more ventilation.
Don’t get me wrong — they’re very kind people but it really not very nice to be there, because of the state of everything. If you’re in a group it would be quite okay, but for solo travelers I would rather recommend choosing a different place.

- Mattia (9/5): Superb -
- Monica (7/5): Good -
- Lio (1/5): Bad -
- Andreas (7/5): all in all, good value/price ratio - it's not really a shower. a bucket with water to wash yourself.
- Louis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (9/5): Excelente budget option for Rosario - Welcoming host. Lots of great and reasonably priced tours. Basic facilities expected as this is what’s advertised. The cockerels
- Valentin (9/5): Camping, with a very caring host - The host is super friendly and even offered us a free private cooking class for how to make local dishes. Definitely take his suggestions for activities, he is a local and knows the area extremely well.
- Pagani (1/5): Not a camping: two tents abandoned in a field - The location was ok, close to the beach and the pueblo. This is not a camping. This are 2 tents abandoned in a muddy field. The shower is a bucket with rain water. And it’s ok, we new it. The problem is that the owner, Gregorio, was never in the camping, so he never could help us. One night after a storm we had tent and mattress completely wet, I tried to reach Gregorio walking in the night in the island to find phone connection, but he never replied and never said anything, not even an apology. Result: we had to sleep outside on the hammack, in the public area, where was placed the other tent (so, impossible even to play cards to not disturb the other guest. Why walking around for connection? Because were supposed to have wifi in the camping, but you have to ask every time Gregorio to turn it on, and 80% of the times he wasn’t there or there was some kind of problem with a cable or other excuses. Electricity: the only way to charge the phones was to give the phones to Gregorio, to charge it in his own apartment (yes, he has electricity). The problem, again, was that Gregorio disappeared constantly, so we had to wait hours during the day to have the phone back. Riuning our days. So, yes, it was a disaster, we were supposed to stay one week on the island, but we ran away after 3 days. Gregorio ruined our stay on the island. Very bad host. Never with us, not even at the check out (we saw him helping guests from other hotels for the departure). What a pity.
- Oscar (10/5): Exceptional - Wow. The campsite is run by the local legend Gregorio an amazing guy. He made us feel very at home and was so kind to us. We learnt loads about life on the island for the locals the good and the bad. He had loads of cool tours for us too. The best was fishing for barracuda, so cool. We managed to catch three and an egg fish which he helped us cook together that night. He gave us coconut and taught us how to cook plantain and coconut rice. A lovely place and a lovely guy, thank you Gregorio!
- Ricardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sofie (10/5): Exceptional - Recommend!
One of the cheapest places on the island.
The owners are super friendly and helpful. E.g. it was raining one of the nights and the owner came to check on us several times. You can get help to book tours, they put mosquito repelling things next to you in the evening, etc.
Nice common chill out area with hammocks + cozy christmas lights around the camping. Location on booking is wrong, follow google maps location.
No big luxury (e.g. shower with buckets, no running water, mattress not extremely comfy), but it makes a great experience and you pay way less than other places.
- Martha (7/5): A very simple camping set up, but really enjoyable. - The location is amazing - just a few mins to a lovely beach and many more around. The tent was clean and comfortable and the woman in charge was friendly. It wasn’t an issue for us personally, but it would have been good to know that there is no running water (bucket shower only) or mains electricity (small generator only) so it’s difficult to charge anything without them taking it to another house nearby. We were also asked to donate some money to use the kitchen to cook a meal which we thought would be included in the price. All ok things but should be made clear before booking.
- Julio (10/5): Amazing Place to Rest and Explore The Island With a Local Host - Gregorio (host) is amazing and very helpful with what to visit or where to book tours and stuff. The place is of course a camping spot and you should arrive with expectations of natural sounds. I enjoyed everything during my stay, nothing bad to say about it.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - The host - great guy, speaking English, very kind. He helps you with everything, we went to see plankton - amazing experience. Also did some diving to see corals and a sunk plane! mosquitos and flies, but they are everywhere on the island, so just get a mosquito spray
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Esther (10/5): I was finally relaxed during/after my stay - Gregorio, the owner, is just the nicest person ever!
very cozy as well :)
- Maud (9/5): Enjoy the slow-paced island life to the fullest! - If you're looking for an affordable and relaxing place to fully experience the island life on Isla Grande then Eco Camping El Frutal is perfect. The campground is simple but clean and comfortable. There is a nice shaded area with hammocks, tables and couches to relax. The shower and toilet are manual (using buckets of fresh water to wash yourself) but well kept. There's an outdoor kitchen available that you can use so you don't have to eat out every meal. On top of that the mattresses in the tents are very comfortable and we were provided with sheets and pillows. The location is perfect! You're in the middle of the island close to Playa Libre and the small village on the island. We also felt super safe on the campground. We were able to leave our bags outside of our tents without having to worry.
Gregorio was an amazing host. He was there to answer all our questions and offered activities that you can book with him. We cooked a traditional Caribbean meal together that was amazing and a really nice way to experience the local cuisine.
It was the perfect way to wind down and enjoy the simple relaxed island life on a budget! If you're not into camping this obviously isn't the best choice for you.
