Guest Reviews
- Mary (8/5): Lovely and relaxing house with beautiful views - The house is very lovely. Location is quiet and romantic. Views are fantastic. Facilities like spa need maintenance.
- Andrew (10/5): Awesome property, could be a fantastic event venue with some development. - Location was amazing, quiet, great views of the surrounding countryside. Loads of local fauna including kangaroos and echidna.
The bed was very comfortable, it was great to have a full kitchen and it was just far enough out of town to be secluded and very private. The other two cabins on-site were empty so we had the run off the property to ourselves. According to my wife the cleaning was a little below, I think she was referring to dust. I heard her mention a couple of times about around the taps in the bathroom but it looked ok to me. She is quite fastidious with the cleaning.
- Jessica (9/5): - Spacious, cosy, homely, many amenities and comfortable space, hot tub was nice, love the cottage vibes Shower was a bit moldy and had some unknown dark stains in the corner (otherwise generally really clean), would prefer being able to park undercover as there were strong winds and rain throughout our stay, it was a bit further out from the town and there was a 1.1k dirt / rocky road with lots of hills to drive up and down (we didn't mind it but it would have been great to know beforehand)
- Louise (8/5): Beautiful retreat - Loved how cosy it was, the views, the bedroom and spa and the balcony. Was great, the kitchen was light on things but we managed.
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Aleksandar (4/5): Great views and amenities, but let down by poor cleanliness, maintenance issues and mouse sighting. - Amazing views and a great vibe in and around the property. The little balcony and verandah was really cozy and the place felt super roomy with great heating and cooling. Nice bonus was having a TV with Wi-Fi, a cute dining table and a spacious kitchen setup with a fridge, dishwasher and induction stovetop. The place was very dust and dirt around the edges and powerpoints and bottom rug. Kitchen stuff was really basic and bare minimum with only 1 wine glass and the pan and tray hadn’t been properly washed, smelling of fish. A few expired coffee satchets. The rangehood didn’t work. We saw a mouse come out of the wall AC and run across the kitchen and dining table on two nights. The tub upstairs had a small leak through the ceiling downstairs when filled and had broken drain covers. Only 1 set of towels provided for a 3 night couple stay. There was a yellow stain on the doona in the bedroom. Road to property is unsealed and quite steep, would not recommend with a standard low vehicle if wet weather is expected. The price reflects the views, but definately not the condition of the property.
- Emily (7/5): Disappointed - a place that held great promise fell short in a number of areas. - Very spacious home. Bed was very comfortable, views were lovely, living room with fireplace a cosy area. Extra firewood requested was supplied. Dressing area in bedroom was welcome.
Hepburn Springs is a beautiful area. Facilities in many ways fell short of expectations.
Spa was broken - contacted host to ask about it and was told a plumber would come - they didn’t, and upon further inquiry host fell silent. Disappointing given it was the main reason we booked this place and given that upon reading earlier reviews, host was obviously already aware. No compensation offered.
Kitchen was very under stocked with cookware/serving ware. Coffee machine in pictures was not present. Rangehood was broken.
Communication with host was a challenge - slow to respond (or no response at all).
Outdoor lighting didn’t work - offered more solar lights but in the depth of winter, there wasn’t enough sunlight to make them work. Very dangerous given the location.
Upstairs heating very inefficient.
Would be good to let guests know about the challenging unsealed road and steep driveway before they book.
- Sarah (1/5): - Wouldn’t know. Didnt get to go We booked weeks in advance for our anniversary. Paid the full amount over a week from the booked date. Then less than 24hrs later the property contacted me saying they could not accommodate our dates due to the property having an inspection day on the Saturday. I understand these things happen, but you would have known more than 24hrs about having an open day of your selling your property and it was obviously something I the works when we paid the full amount a week prior. Here am now on hold again with booking.com trying to recieve a refund because the owner of the property while being in contact with me and asking for my bank details has still not reimbursed. This booking was for May and it is now June!
- Joanne (6/5): - Beautiful location with stunning views of the surrounding area. The bed was very comfortable and the downstairs lounge was cozy and warm with the open fireplace. There were a number of aspects of the property that were not as advertised. The spa didn't work. The remote control for the heater downstairs had a broken screen so you couldn't tell what temperature it was set on. Upstairs was very cold, 12 degrees on arrival and took 8 hours of running the split system at 30 degrees to only get it up to 18. The tea/coffee supplies hadn't been restocked so there was only 2 sachets of sugar. There was ground coffee but no coffee press to make it in. The outside lights didn't work. There was also a suspended egg chair shown in the photos online, which was not present.
- Rachael (7/5): Lovely View from Balcony - lovely view Nice but amenities looking old and tired. No coffee machine, but there was coffee for a machine. only one champagne glass. Out of salt. No bath mat and only two towels.
We had to fix the arial on Tv it wasn’t working.
Both nights we stayed another person was in the house down from us playing techno music, which we heard clearly and was annoying.
The place didn’t feel very loved and seemed like it was an afterthought to have people stay.
Sorry but when you are completing with other properties which clearly make an effort to have you back it was a little disappointing.
- Alexios (8/5): Very good -
- Tabitha (5/5): Pleasant enough stay - The cottage is not stand alone as advertised. It is more of a townhouse, with a wall separating each cottage.
Stay was pleasant enough.
Communication with the owners were a stressful experience. I had to chase them up on day of arrival and how to access the property. Arrived and they told me the key is under the mat. Not the case. Chase up again, no it's a lock box. Chase up again, lock box code.
Please update the booking.com site to let people know it is not a sealed road towards the cottage. Very rough, unsealed and full of pot holes road.
- Bowden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alice (10/5): Very nice house. -
- Justin (9/5): A lovely long weekend stay, beautiful location. Cute and cozy cottage. Left feeling very relaxed. - More cooking equipment/utensils.
A few more towels.
- Olivia (7/5): Good - Location was amazing! Private and still close to town. There was no Service and the WiFi didn't work so was good to switch off but also couldn't use the facilities as listed like the Netflix or just to google what's around and things to do had to do that while we were in town.
We also had the cleaners turn up at 9:55am as we were leaving which made us feel rushed.
- Courtney (10/5): Beautiful! Will be dreaming of this cottage for weeks wishing to go back! - This was the perfect accommodation for a girls getaway. The bed was so big and comfy. So was the beautiful couch. The views were breathtaking, loved the kangaroos and the blissful silence. Shower was spacious and good pressure. As the bedroom was upstairs, it heat up a bit but so nice to have both aircon and fan to be able to cool it down. Easy transaction for entering and leaving. Exactly what we wanted and wish we could go back! Word of advice, don't use the provided frying pan to make pancakes! They stick no matter what 😅
The photos had a pod machine so I was under the impression there would be one but only coffee sachets provided. But not the end of the world!
- James (3/5): Total utter disappointment. - Bedroom and bathroom were nice with big spa bath. We received an sms just after our money had been taken out telling us of all the restricted areas around the house. The main theme being don’t go within in eyeshot of the other properties. We couldn’t even walk around the grounds. We were there to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. What a complete let down. Somebody walked around the property shining a torch in the windows at 11pm Friday evening. We don’t know who it was but my wife never slept that night worrying. This morning somebody banged on the door at 6-30am waking us up. We can only assume it was the next doors visitors. The track into the property is horrendous. The tv couldn’t receive any channels. There was a dirty table with 1 dirty chair with a dirty garden glove in our proposed verandah. For some reason all the solar lights were laid on the ground. The split system in the living area had a controller that had obviously been dropped at some stage so you could not read the screen. We will never go back to Hepburn and wish we had a better outcome on a very special occasion.
- Cameron (10/5): Exceptional - The views Nothing
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - Location, seclusion, and wildlife
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable, clean and great views No negatives at all
- Evan (9/5): Exactly what we'd hoped for - wonderful property and great relaxation. Close to town but quiet - Views and location were stunning. Kangaroos were a bonus! Bird songs and sunset over the valley delightful. Spa bath was big and had wonderful views. Wood fire was great and plentifully supplied. Bed was comfortable. Short drive to town and all the wonderful amenities of Hepburn & Daylesford. The big pillar which supports the TV also blocks views out the window from the couch which was a shame - we'd prioritise views over TV! Wi-fi a bit spotty which is to be expected out in the bush. Perhaps a little more generous with the crockery - just two of most things for two of us - letting a little dishwashing build up for extra convenience is fine! The music mix coming from the villa next door ranged from pleasant to annoying!
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (7/5): Very spacious and great views - needs maintenance - The views were amazing, fireplace and bath were perfect. Was really nice to have firewood provided also! Bed was beautiful and everything was nice and clean Almost all the lighting in the bathroom and kitchen weren't working, one of the wine glasses has a huge smash in it which we realised after a drink was taken (we actually replaced the glasses ourselves so we could use them) downstairs toilet seat is broken.
- Ezana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jana (8/5): Very good -
- Kelly (8/5): Very enjoyable - Very clean and cozy, the garden is so pretty, loved all of the wild life at our front door step. It's a wonderful property and location- feels lovely and secluded but conveniently close to town. Bed was very comfy, I loved all of the windows for sunset views and natural light. We had a great time and I would happily stay again. Some extra blankets to snuggle under on the couch would have been nice, it was quite chilly. The wood provided didn't burn very hot, we ended up buying our own from the servo. Some extra towels would have also been good, I think we had 1 bath towel each for a 4-day stay. There's quite a dip in the driveway at the entrance, my little hatchback got stuck on the first try. The jets on the spa didn't work and we weren't able to use the bath at all our last night as there was a water leakage incident (a gesture acknowledging this would have been much appreciated eg small refund or gift voucher or something)
- Sharokine (9/5): The perfect stay for our anniversary getaway - Absolutely everything. The villa was so cute! It was so cosy and clean. The views were spectacular. The dirt road getting to the villa was a little tricky at night. Had to drive everywhere as it's a little way out, but we did not mind. Everything else was wonderful.
- Catherine (7/5): Facilities are available but not great. The view is beautiful. - The owner is nice and quick responsive. The view is beautiful, you can see a lot of kangaroos. The facilities need lots of upgrades, TV freezed and can't be turned off, the bath was leaking, the bath water leaked downstairs, luckily we didn't leave our belongings on the table, some lights were not working, can't find a chopping board in the kitchen, I guess didn't expect us cook. We stayed three nights, only provided one bath towel per person, and the instant coffee sachet expired in 2021.
- Carol (9/5): Beautiful place, surroundings, cosy and loved the woodfire place. - Location was a little out of the way than expected or preferred, but the view and wildlife (kangaroos and koalas) made it worth while. The accommodation was cosy and just enough for 2.
We loved having the fireplace on at night and bubble bath in the morning.
As each day went past the more we appreciated the location and accommodation, even though it took a little getting use to at first. The wifi was not that strong (but was not a deal breaker). We also spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out how to operate the cooktop (ours is gas), but after a quick search on google we managed to get it working (maybe a quick instruction label somewhere would be helpful).
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shashi (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Vicki (10/5): we will come back again - how secluded it was nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hoang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (6/5): good location and home, but poor communication with owners was a low point - good location, house and facilities owners were unresponsive and a little misleading
- Peter (9/5): just what I needed a stress free week away with my wife - peaceful, great watching the kangaroos graze in the dusk, great fireplace and comfort setting
