Guest Reviews
- Cynthia (9/5): A wee bit of paradise… - Portofino is a lovely property with just right amount of cabanas to make you truly feel like a guest instead of ‘one of many.’ The resort is attractive, comfortable, and sits right in the beachside. The staff is helpful, friendly and accommodating. Lunch was my favorite meal out under the sea grape tree with the grackles and iguanas. We tended to linger there way beyond the fish and chips, watching the wildlife and listening to the surf break out in the reef. Who knows about night, we crashed early and slept like babies. A welcome and much needed sleep. There’s a lot of construction going on on Ambergris Cay and the sound of dump trucks early in the morning was well, too much like reality. One day it will be finished and the sound of the pounding surf will rightfully win in the music of the breaking day again.
- Jeff (10/5): Relaxing little hideaway - Staff, food, pool, bedroom, cozyness Location (road needs lots of improvements), beach (not really swimmable)
- Susan (8/5): Nice location for a relaxing trip, minus kids. - Loved the location and the pool and the beach area. Staff was nice and helpful. Lots of good amenities. Food was really good also. Bed was not in the greatest shape. They allowed other people from rental properties next door to use the pool. A bunch of kids took up the space so we couldn’t enjoy our own pool at the resort.
- Gina (10/5): Fantastic staff, clean Cabana and good food! - The staff here was amazing. They were kind and attentive. The cabana we stayed in was clean and comfortable. We ate the food here every day and everything was delicious.I would recommend this place if you are visiting San Pedro.
- Janice (10/5): It was a luxurious, relaxing stay with a beautiful view, and wonderful staff. - We liked it all!!! Beautiful resort with an exceptional staff. We've traveled a lot and I don't think I remember anyplace providing such personal and warm welcome-to-departure service. Food great also! Thank you!! My only suggestion to future guests is to consider booking a unit that does not have a unit above it. The wooden structure, I guess, results in the amplification of ordinary sounds like chairs moved, etc.
- Dee (8/5): Very good -
- Amie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Selvana (7/5): Great, clean, beautiful stay - Beautiful , clean Wifi was awful, beach was not as expected as it had a lot of sea weed and was not swimmable. Not a problem just wasn’t expected.
- Guadalupe (8/5): Very good -
- Ella (9/5): Our stay at Portofino was breathtaking the staff picked us up from the water taxi and were greeted with nice staff and t - Very clean and such nice friendly staff who were very organized and professional. Amazing views with nice sunrises. The road to get to Portofino was a bit rough.
- Slava (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aimee (10/5): We loved our stay and can't wait to return. A very peaceful hotel. - I love the beautiful grounds. Fantastic pool, beach, restaurant and bar and staff was super friendly. The room was quaint and had everything I needed. The hairdryer didn't work but not a big deal.
- Tami (9/5): Portofino was the perfect place for our group. The dive shop provided a wide variety of advent and experiences. There - The property is beautiful and well laid out. All amenities are close together but not cramped.
The restaurant is one of the best in the area, the staff and management were wonderful. Accommodations are very comfortable with amazing views. The toiletries hand crafter and beautiful quality. There was nothing we didn’t like, however for others it is a bit of a golf cart away from the city of San Pedro but it is closer to Secret Beach
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Bettina (8/5): Beautiful authentic boutique hotel. Pleasant stay with friendly staff and comfortable and clean accomodations. Property - Authentic boutique hotel / resort with cabins directly on the water. Very good food. Large rooms and direct beach access. Friendly staff. Beautiful garden. Clean. Needs updates / renovation to be a true 4 star hotel.
Quite far (45min) from San Pedro.
- Brian (10/5): We loved it and would love to go back! - All of the staff were so helpful and kind. We loved the location. The food was amazing. Really, the only thing that could have been better was the lighting in our cabana. It was a bit dim at night.
- Annabelle (6/5): Beautiful rooms and location, but staff often let this hotel down - Portofino is a lovely little resort a bit away from the main town on San Pedro. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The view out onto the beach was glorious, and the pool is also a lovely place to relax. The free breakfast was also plenty to keep us full - would highly recommend the banana muffins! We had mixed customer service with staff, some of whom were amazing but others were not as helpful or enthusiastic when liaising with us. We also would warn people against borrowing bikes from this hotel - mine broke down multiple times and my husband got covered in oil trying to fix to get us back. We were also expecting the bar to be open much later given the signage but often found it closed
- Lund (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shea (8/5): Very good -
- Wivine (10/5): Exceptional Stay - Staffs here treat you like a family, we were sad leaving at the end of our stays. The property is very clean, secluded, you feel like on a private island. Very quiet and private, it gave the true serenity we were seeking. Cabanas are roomy, ours had two queen beds with rooms to move around. We truly enjoyed the facility, the food was the best on the island. N/A
- Sabrina (8/5): It was great. Food and drinks were really good. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff - The ambiance was nice. The rooms were nice. Staff was wonderful especially Aaron from the bar. The road to get there was rough and mosquitoes were terrible at the resort.
- Arthur (6/5): Pleasant - Nice veiw of the ocean The distance extremely to far out from town or anything
- Leticia (10/5): I went through the bad reviews and visited anyways and found that the bad reviews were so false! It was an amazing resor - Everything
- Tallulah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was amazing! And the rooms were great! Very cozy Too far from everything and the roads were terrible
- Petree (9/5): Very relaxing vacation. - Staff was wonderful & the restaurant was amazing.
- Gabriela (5/5): It was a place to sleep but not to enjoy - The views It's run down and looks better on pictures. A bit remote, not a good choice if you want to be close to town. The cleaning was the bare minimum. They didn't scrub the shower, didn't change the sheets.
- Terri (10/5): The best vacation ever! - This place was truly amazing! Everyone from pickup to checkin to the bartender was fantastic. The food was excellent. The dive shop was the best! Everything was spot on! Nothing!!!
- Anna (9/5): Superb - The food here was amazing, it’s a very pretty resort with great staff and we loved the pool and being able to do excursions from the dock at the resort. The only thing that we didn’t like were how bad the mosquitoes were. We didn’t realize they had a thing to light to repel mosquitos that they kept at the front desk that we could have used in our rooms but no one told us about them! Other than that the stay was amazing.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - The staff was so gracious and went out of their way to accommodate us. The property was very authentic and comfortable.
- Raja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (9/5): Superb -
- Leendert (5/5): It was alright with some sidenotes - Right on the beach
Nice pool
Dinner was good quality
Lovely canons & Thatch roof
Large bed and room (treetop house)
They offer tours from the hotel such as schnorkling. Everything was in US dollars. Please put BZD there as well for other tourists than Americans. This also lead to higher (American) pricing than some other hotels and restaurants nearby who did use BZD.
Some members of the staff were very friendly, while others were so grumpy and distant that it made you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. That even made us wonder if we did something wrong that upset them and that is not a nice feeling to have while you are on your holiday. Luckily this feeling disappeared at the moment other members of the staff were friendly.
The airconditioning was way too small for the room it was meant to cool. Therefore it was warm.
The room, being one open space, was only partially divided by one wall. So no way to do your thing in private as the washroom had no door.
The free continental breakfast only includes toast, Jam and fruit. Being from the continent, I can tell you we also eat ham, cheese and such on our bread... If you wanted something more than that you had to pay, even if it were just eggs (3 USD for only two fried eggs, nothing on the side). The other breakfast options from the menu didn't meet our expectations given the amount you had to pay for it. It was possible to switch up your free continental breakfast for 8 USD though.
The first day there was no warm water in the shower and the waterpressure was really low due to the showerhead being way too small. You couldn't even get your shampoo off... After our second complaint they replaced it on our second day with a bigger showerhead and fixed the warm water.
The location makes it so that you can't easily go to town. We knew that in advance; just a heads-up.
Over all it was okay, but we just felt like "something was missing".
- Jennifer (8/5): my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in April. The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating. - it was secluded with beautiful scenery by the ocean it’s difficult to get to, a long bumpy ride in a golf cart
- Kirsty (8/5): Very good -
- Anastasios (7/5): Great place but quite secluded - Lovely pool area. The food at the restaurant was great and the snorkelling trip was one of the best I’ve done Very far from San Pedro
- Melanie (9/5): Comfortable resort - The resort was very picturesque, well-maintained, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and responsive. We had breakfast there daily and dinner one evening, which were tasty. We rented a golf cart, which we used to get around the island. I recommend that since the resort is about 30 minutes outside of town. We were bummed that we couldn't use the beach due to the seaweed, but that was an issue all along the east side of the island-- not resort-specific.
- Michelle (8/5): We had a memorable stay at Portofino! - Secluded and quiet. Exceptional staff!!! Incredibly helpful, generous, and professional. We had a very comfortable stay, however, the property could be updated a bit more. Also, the seaweed kept us out of the ocean. That didn’t stop us from enjoying the beautiful pool and gorgeous weather!
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (7/5): Overall satisfied with the trip and stay but we won’t rush back. - Really good food. Friendly staff. Nice views. Comfy bed. Access to bikes and kayaks. Cleanliness of room was average . Bathroom had a septic / sewage smell frequently. Loud roof noises when winds are high.
- Dennis (9/5): Portofino is a great place if you enjoy quieter places, but you will need to rent a golf cart - Probably one of the best beaches on the island and the property is exactly as represented in the photos. Room was great and the staff were accommodating and friendly the sea weed. apparently there are times of the year when it is really bad...not Jan-Feb thankfully
- Emery (10/5): Exceptional - The Portifino restaurant had excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner. They had fresh fruit and freshly caught seafood. The service was excellent and the prices were fair. They had direct access to the beach. The pool was beautiful. The rooms were generous in size. Daily housekeeping. The property was well maintained. It was quite but very nice. I would definitely recommend this property. Nothing.
- Gerald (4/5): Disappointing - Scenery beautiful. Pool nice. Uniit was spacious. Marc was.a wonderful help to us. Sessy was the least helpful employee. staff and food in restaurant were fantastic. Adirondack chairs are very uncomfortable and do not belong poolside.
Bathrooms should have doors. we rented a golf cart $50, they brought us a 6 seater relic that would not fit into parking areas. no one stipulated in emails that Tropic Air did not have as many flights to choose from. We had to take a $30 US taxi to a small airport. We then had to take another taxi to the zBelize express water ferry. Also hotel left us stranded as there are no taxis or water taxis. We had no choice except to use overpriced hotel tours. We were blocked from watching NFL games on room TV. Very limited choice of programming. Not cool at all. .They had nfl on TV in bar. A clip joint.

- Cinta (9/5): Superb - Dinner at the restaurant seemed pricey for what you got. We chose to eat elsewhere for most dinner meals. Breakfast and lunch were great.
- Irati (8/5): Very good -
