Guest Reviews
- Renars (9/5): -
- Anne (10/5): - We loved the beachfront location.
The fire place created a great atmosphere. When we first arrived, the house smelt a bit stale.
- Kingston (9/5): Wonderful, wild and remote but in easy reach of town - A wonderful architecturally designed, homey house in a very quiet section of the world. Peaceful, warm and remote. The surrounds are wild and unkempt. This is more like a remote wilderness than a carefully manicured garden. There are snakes in the sand dune grass, wallabies and possums around at night and the beach is deserted and wild. The house was wasted on just the two of us as it could easily accommodate six or eight. The wood fire was wonderful and easy to light with plenty of wood supplied in the house and more out at the shed. There is EV charging available which is fantastic. The master bedroom bed is uncomfortably soft. If you prefer a firmer bed, choose the next bedroom along. That bed was much firmer. Nitpicking here; the wild state of the garden might turn some people off. The house looks abandoned when you drive up. But Dolphin Sands definitely seems like a dryer part of Tasmania and it was good to have a contrast to all the lush greenery of other parts. It was kind of spooky, kind of exciting. Once you walk into the house though, it's beautiful and has the feel of a treasured family home, with lots of happy memories and maybe a touch of sadness that things had to move on. Also out of the control of the owners; the beach sometimes has a seaweed problem. It was covered in a thick bed of smelly, washed up weed the day we arrived but most of it had washed back into the surf after a couple of high tides. But even then it wouldn't have been much fun to swim in. There is nothing that anyone can do about that, that is just coastal life. I wouldn't not book this house because of the fear that it might happen. Just be prepared that you are going to a wild beach, not a manicured resort beach. It's exciting. Lots of beautiful shells on the beach too.
- Bucher (8/5): - Location was lovely with direct beach access and beautiful views. Kitchen was extremely well set up. Beds comfortable. There was nothing to not like that
- Tracey Dyer (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay, amazing location and had everything we needed. We have rebooked for Summer! ☀️
- MIddleton (8/5): Great stay - Great fire (it's was really cold). Proximity to beach (outside back door).
Comfortable beds.
Spacious and very clean.
- BenNorth (10/5): - Great house and location. Very private and great access to beach. Clean and lots of room. Even though there is a fast EV charger in Swansea, it was great to have the one at the house to top up if needed.
- Allan (8/5): Very good -
- Ngoc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martina (10/5): A home away from home. - Location
- Roland (9/5): Superb - The location was perfect, walk down the path straight onto the beach, lots of beach walks, even a swim.
House is at the beginning of Dolphin Sands, so only 10min drive to Swansea to see friends.
View from the room upstairs was amazing, ocean view from there.
Plenty of pots and plates to use for cooking.
Large comfortable coach to spread out. No ocean view from the main living area.
- Simone (9/5): Special close to beach dog friendly getaway! - Spacious, very comfortable, large fenced block, great views, close to beach and all you need inside! Some upkeep needed with drainage and lighting.
- Val (10/5): Seaside escape - Loved it. Location to Beach, lots of space, well organised, disability friendly. We will return. Need more mirrors, maybe a full length one. Small rubbish bins in bedrooms. Could do with road entrance lights as hard to find after dark . Need instructions for oven.
- Tania (8/5): Fantastic spacious home in fabulous location! - Easy access to beach and Swansea. Spacious house - plenty of room to spread out! Stairs down to beach were hard for our dogs to tread on as gaps between timber were too wide. The house itself was good!
- Debbie (10/5): Enjoyable, relaxing, comfortable, if we are in the area again we will book again. - Very spacious, comfortable. It had everything and more to make our stay very enjoyable. Very close to the beach for morning walks. Didn’t find anything wrong with the place
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional - The location is fantastic. Clean and tidy with everything you need only 1 bathroom
- Susie (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the location, house, views and privacy. Wished we could have stayed longer!!! Our favourite place to stay in Tassie.
- Jodie (10/5): Wonderful hosts and beautiful location. Thank you. Jodie and family. - Our family loved the private beach access and the remote location. I especially want to thank Sonny and Karen and Chelsea for making an exception for me to check in early so I could log on to an interview online.
- Matt (10/5): Fantastic location with beach for miles - Unbelievable location, fantastic house. Nothing.
- Chadd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (10/5): Perfect weather, perfect location, perfect home stay & perfect hosts - what more can I say. - The location was absolutely perfect for Nevaeh (my GSP) & I to drive to breathtaking locations up & down the East Coast & middle of Tassie. We walked Nine Mile Beach (just down the path from ‘home’) once or twice a day & instead of driving to Swansea for light provisions, often walked there & back via the beach.
The bed & bedding was beyond comfortable - the bunk bed on the ferry home was hard as rocks in comparison.
The kitchen & laundry appliances were State-of-the-Art, & a delight to use after I Googled instructions for a couple in the kitchen that stumped me.
And the DeLonghi coffee machine ⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Sonny & Karen have thought of everything a traveller (& their pooch) might desire & we couldn’t have been happier.
I really enjoyed the outdoor hand-held shower every time we got back from our beach walks & the huge deck on the beach side for just hanging out.
Nevaeh enjoyed racing around two ‘farm’ blocks of land in complete fenced-in safety & I enjoyed seeing her have so much fun.
Thank you again for putting the icing on the cake of my perfect holiday. And special thanks to Chelsea, the property manager, who went above & beyond to assist me in settling on arrival. There were just a few minor battery replacements needed for the Dolphin torch, the DVD remote. Matches were fine for lighting the fire in the living room, but both gas lighters were out of gas. While these gadgets would have been handy in working order, they didn’t spoil a perfect experience.
- Virginia (9/5): Comfortable family time including our fur baby with interspersed beach walks! - Perfect location that was dog friendly. Great to be able to have a place for my dog to safely sniff.
Enough seating, cutlery and crockery etc to cater to the number of beds available. Really well equipped kitchen. Easy level access to outside at the back, ramp at the front, and fly screens.
Log fire with plenty of wood.
Views of the Aurora. Not the property owners fault but we had x2 blackouts while we were staying. Luckily the wood fire kept us warm and there were a couple of candles on hand.
Otherwise everything was better than expected.
- Leanne (8/5): Absolute beach frontage in spacious house - The house is beach frontage - just walk out the back door and down to a beautiful beach, which was very quiet. Listening to the crashing waves at night was lovely. In summer, the beach would be fabulous (we were there in cold weather).
The rooms are spacious - especially the main living area. There is also another area upstairs where you can relax and enjoy the views. The kitchen is well appointed, with a large fridge and pantry space. Our group consisted of 6 adults, and we never felt cramped around the table, the kitchen or the lounge area.
The house is quite a way out from Swansea, but we knew this, so that was okay. Just make sure you have purchased all of your supplies before heading out to the house. The main issue was that the house is listed as having 2 bathrooms - the main reason we booked it, with 6 adults in the group. Unfortunately this is NOT the case. There is only one bathroom, with a bath, shower and toilet in that room. There is a 2nd toilet in an outside building. But please note that there is only One bathroom, and going across to the outside building to the 2nd toilet at night may night be ideal.
When we stayed in September '24, the house had not been cleaned very well before we arrived. The bathroom floors were dirty, and there was sand on the kitchen floor, the fire place was very full of ash from previous fires. A number of the things that were listed in the house manual as being provided for us, were not there. The house needs some maintenance done on it too - roller blind cord was broken, skirting boards are badly scuffed and warped making the doors drag on the floor.
The gardens/grounds around the house could certainly do with some maintenance and tidying up. They are very overgrown and messy.
- Tamara (7/5): Lovely spot beach is great. - The heating as it was cold and the only heating was a wood fire. In summer this wouldn't matter
- Kaycee (10/5): Cosy. - View and fire place. Such a cosy vibe. Nothing it was awesome.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pedro (10/5): Great place for a family holiday. Right by the beach. Unfortunately we didn’t get great weather while there but the loca - Lovely situated right by the beach Location
- David (7/5): Good - great location so close to shore there is no second bathroom despite what the brochure suggests, disappointing as my criteria for accommodation had been strictly two bathrooms for the two couples forming our group. So the property is misrepresented
- Meri (8/5): We were comfortable at the beach house and felt like it was like being at a family’s well used - Loved the location right on the beach and suited us to visit surrounding area. It was comfortable and quiet.Well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds and couches. I think a few things could have been better……fresh drinking water was not left as stated in the welcome notes, I would have liked to park my car in the carport but the Bougainville vine was overgrown and blocking and I wasn’t sure my car wasn’t going to get scratched. The bathroom sink was draining very slowly. The entry (outside door) could have been cleaner. First impressions make a difference. These are small things. Just wanted you to be aware.
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - Open plan living, Lots of space, privacy. Felt very relaxed. Close to beach. Great location!
- Karmen (10/5): Wonderful holiday home - Amazing location. Comfortable beds. Clean place. Lots of room.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb Family Home , close to the beautiful beach! - Spacious well appointed home close to the beautiful beach! We would Definitely stay again! Lots of bugs & a few spiders which of course Is to be expected due to location.
House especially upstairs bedroom Was extremely hot & stuffy!
- Ly (10/5): Perfect big family stay - with private access to beach - Can't rate this place high enough! Hosts are very accommodating and responds quickly.
Rooms, living space, bathroom, facilities, outdoor decking, kitchen - it was all wonderful.
Best feature is the proximity of the beach to deck. 30 second walk. With outdoor shower to hose off.
Game bedroom upstairs was also best feature my son loved! Sand toys for the kids to enjoy - and so many pantry items to cook at home. Honestly wished we stayed longer.
Thank you so much! Nothing.
- Judith (8/5): Two steps from the beach ! - Enjoyed our stay here very much. Wish it was warmer weather so we could use the beach. Loved the wood fire though. Plenty of room for the three of us and thanks for all the added extras. The oyster van down the road a bit is truly worth a visit. Delicious oysters Could have been a little cleaner
- Shananne (9/5): Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend away at Beach Front Retreat - Amazing house and location. Very comfortable couch and beds. Lots of space around the property Bushes in driveway are due for a trim
- David (8/5): A relaxing, pleasant weekend with family. - Location with easy beach access. Great views.
House was well equipped with good facilities.
