• Francisca R. (10/5): Maravillosa Estadía - El Hostal Makohe es maravilloso, realmente tiene muy merecida la puntuación de 10/10. En primer lugar, nos fueron a buscar con un hermoso collar de flores al aeropuerto, nos recibieron con un rico jugo de piña de la isla y nos ayudaron a conseguir información sobre agencias de turismo confiables, así como un contacto para arrendar vehículo. Cada buen comentario que tiene en esta plataforma coincide con el servicio entregado en la realidad, ya que el desayuno que prepara Pamela es exquisito, la habitación es muy cómoda, la limpieza es muy minuciosa y el lugar cuenta con todo lo necesario para tener una grata estadía. Asimismo, la cocina está muy bien equipada y es un agrado utilizarla. Tiene excelente ubicación para ir caminando hacia la playa o hacia el centro. Estamos muy agradecidos por todo, tanto de Pamela y Carlos, ya que son excelentes anfitriones; nuestra estadía fue maravillosa y esperamos volver pronto a la isla.

• Philipp (10/5): Perfekter Aufenthalt bei einer großartigen Gastgeberin - Bei Pamela haben wir uns sofort willkommen gefühlt! Die herzliche Begrüßung, das leckere Frühstück, der schöne Garten mit Feuerstelle und der Wasserspender – Pamela hat wirklich an alles gedacht, sodass wir unsere Zeit auf dieser besonderen Insel maximal genießen konnten. Auch kleine Extras haben unseren Aufenthalt noch angenehmer gemacht, zum Beispiel dass sie uns sogar kostenlos einen Sack Wäsche gewaschen hat. Wir sind sehr froh, dieses kleine Stück Paradies auf Rapa Nui gefunden zu haben. Auch wenn sich 25 °C laut Wetter-App nicht nach viel anhören, war die Klimaanlage im Zimmer bei den tatsächlichen Temperaturen um die 30 °C ein echter Lebensretter. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

• Thuy (10/5): The best hostel we’ve ever had! - Highly recommend this hostel! Pamela and Carlos have a beautiful house! Everything is tidy and organized. The location is great, close to the Main Street, to the beach and to Tahai. We are very welcomed and treated as family by Pamela and Carlos. Will definitely stay here again if we ever have a chance to come back!

• Lisa (10/5): The owners are extremely welcoming and accommodating! - We are American travelers, in our 60’s, traveling the world. We stay in a lot of accommodations, world wide. What makes this hostel special is the warmth and attention to detail Pamala and Carlos (the owners) give every guest. For what this island has to offer I strongly recommend this place. Pamala keeps things incredibly clean. There is a shared kitchen and guests are free to use anything just do your dishes and clean up after yourself. It is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans and everything you need. They also provide filtered water in the shared ‘living space’ which is nice. Pamala serves a breakfast of fresh yogurt with local fruits, cheese, salami and some homemade breads and cheese. There is also coffee and tea and juice. The room is small but accommodating and clean and everything worked and a small refrigerator is provided. We booked a room with A/C and I strongly recommend it. It’s a mini split and it works great. For us, it’s stifling hot and if not for the A/C we would not have been able to sleep. Many accommodations do not offer this as an option. Town is relatively close (about 10 minutes) and down the hill is a lovely restaurant we enjoyed eating at. For two people it’s about $60 and that’s typical on the island. The ‘free’ Moai sunset 🌇 is close by and within walking distance. We met other people staying here in the hostel and everybody was nice. The water for a shower is fine and it’s hot. The bed was comfortable and I don’t say that lightly. We mainly stay in intercontinental hotels so the island is very rustic but the bed was more comfortable than many intercontinental hotels. All the boxes get ticked for a good stay but especially the warmth of the owners, they were great. I strongly recommend this hostel for your stay. The island is rural and be prepared for that but this is no reflection on this hostel.

• Mark (10/5): Bijzonder verblijf op Rapa Nui, bij lieve hosts en op een fijne plek - Eigenlijk beviel alles, maar in het bijzonder onze gastvrouw Pamela (en haar man Carlos). Pamela is geweldig lief en betrokken bij jou als gast en doet er werkelijk ALLES aan om het je naar de zin te maken en te helpen. Goede tips en contacten voor activiteiten op Rapa Nui. De locatie (zeer gunstig gelegen op loopafstand van het centrum) is kleinschalig en de kamers zijn zeer comfortabel en schoon; een goed bed, airconditioning en een fijne badkamer - het ontbreekt aan niks. In tegenstelling tot wat onze boekingsbevestiging vermeldde, was het superlekkere ontbijt voorzien van o.a. vers fruit bij het verblijf inbegrepen. We kunnen niks verzinnen wat beter kan, nogmaals heel erg bedankt! 🥰 Er is niks te bedenken wat niet bevalt - simpelweg een super ervaring!
• Anja (10/5): - I stayed at the most wonderful place on Easter Island and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely welcomed. Carlos kindly picked me up from the airport, and from the very beginning both he and Pamela made my stay feel truly special. Pamela, who is from Rapa Nui, and Carlos were incredibly generous with their time and knowledge. Even before my arrival, they shared valuable tips via WhatsApp on what to see, where to go, and how to make the most of my stay. Once I arrived, their advice and care continued, always thoughtful and perfectly timed. The place itself is exceptional: warm, peaceful, and full of heart. It is rare to feel so immediately at home when travelling, and I honestly have never experienced hospitality quite like this. The location was ideal for me: close enough to the town centre for a short walk, which I really enjoyed, while still feeling calm and removed. Breakfast was outstanding and clearly prepared with care. Every detail reflected how much Pamela and Carlos truly care about their guests and their experience on the island. My stay was made unforgettable because of them, and I sincerely hope I will have the chance to return and see them again. If you are coming to Rapa Nui and looking for a place that offers warmth, authenticity, and genuine connection, this is it.
• Bin (10/5): Perfect choic e to stay in Rapa Nui - We feel very happy to stay in the hostal. Our host Pamila was very nice, kind and considerable. Everything is well organized, from free airport pick up and send off, breakfast very abundant (pans, yogurt, cheese, fruit, coffee, tea, ham, jam, etc. ) and well prepared. Rooms are clean, tidy and quite. No mosquitos or insects. We are at the time for festival and Pamila provided useful information on the shows, and tours. Good location, near city center so you can go to supermarket, pharmacy, bank, or dinner, also can go to see Moais in Tahai for sunset every day in around 10-15 minutes. In all, we feel at home and the welcome, hospitality, care from Pamila all the time. Highly recommended to go Makohe hostal for your stay in Rapa Nui. no

• Hana (9/5): Stylové, vybavené, dobrá atmosféra - Malebné ubytování s šikovnou polohou, všude je to kousek, do centra, na pláž, do obchodů, restaurací. K dispozici je skvěle vybavená kuchyň, zahrádka. Poskytují transfer k letišti. Esteticky moc hezky vyzdobené, čisté. Měli jsme pokoj pro dva s koupelnou a wc, komfortní. Majitelé jsou opravdu moc hodní a přátelští, my jsme teda neuměli španělsky, tak jsme si konkrétní věci psali. Moc dobré a hezky připravené snídaně. V pokoji je slyšet vše z okolních pokojů.
• sarah (10/5): Wonderful, warm and welcoming - Pamela was a wonderful host!! She taught us a lot about the island and was so open and generous with us. She will help you find your guides or anything you need! The location is walking distance (10 min) from the center. There are beautiful flowers and trees and places to sit to enjoy. WiFi can be a little unstable. There are chickens all over the island and dogs as well so bring your earplugs. It didn’t bother us but just to be prepared.

Pamela clearly cares about her guests and wants to make sure they feel welcome and enjoy their stay on Rapa Nui. The breakfast is made fresh every morning and Pamela even offered to do a load of laundry before we left, which was a fantastic treat. Town and the best sunset viewing spot is a short walk down the dirt road from their place. And you can see sooo many stars from their yard at night. Highly recommend.

• Nathan (10/5): The Diamond of Rapa Nui! - Pamela and Carlos are some of the most kindest, caring, generous people you will ever meet. They arranged pick up from the airport and when I departed. I spent a whole week there and when I first arrived noticed the spirit of peace, excellence, cleanliness, and the great care I was shown. These are genuine people and worth getting to know. They answered all my questions and wanted me to have the best experience. I was a solo traveler and it’s not so easy being on your own, but they welcomed me like family. Every morning a nice breakfast waiting for me. They attended to all my needs and very understanding of any concern and wanting to make things good in every sense. It was Christmas/New Years time and the whole property decorated with many beautiful lights that was always comforting to come back too. There was even a small celebration for New Years with food and champagne under the stars with candels! What a delightful surprise! The rooms are lovely and perfect for coming in and out of. Great shower and hot water. There’s a fridge in the room. Beds are comfortable. Im so happy I stayed here. I loved that it was close to everything, but in a quieter place on the edge of town. Very close to Tahai where everyone gathers to watch the sunset! It was easy to find and become familiar with the area. Walking around was very easy with or without a car. I hope I return again one day! Thank you Pamela and Carlos! You have hearts of gold and you truly care! The very best to you 2026! I cant complain about anything. Keep up the good work! ☺️✨

• Maya (10/5): Home away from home 😊 - Ich hatte eine herrliche Zeit auf der Osterinsel und habe mich im Makohe sehr willkommen und wohl gefühlt. Pamela ist eine wunderbare und warmherzige Gastgeberin, die mir immer mit Rat und Tat (!) zur Seite stand. Man merkt, mit wie viel Freude und Liebe dieses Hostal geführt wird. Das Anwesen ist schön ruhig gelegen, tip top sauber und gepflegt mit toller Gemeinschaftsküche und vielen Annehmlichkeiten (Wasserspender, Wäscheservice, Regenschirme, Insektenspray...). Das Frühstück war sehr lecker mit frischem Obst und das Bett fand ich super bequem. Ich würde sofort wieder kommen. Es war wie ein Zuhause fern von Zuhause. Vielen Dank für alles, Pamela! 😊

• Shu-Hui (10/5): Best Hostal we ever went ! - Everything! The hosts Pamela and Carlos are extremely friendly and kind. They help us in every way possible. The Hostal is clean and very comfy. We feel like home! The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need to cook. The living room has couches and a TV that has access to YouTube and Netflix. Every morning, Pamela made delicious breakfast for us. The room is comfy and clean! I highly recommend. This is our home at Easter Island!

Although she spoke no English, her husband did and communication was not a problem. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcomed.. They collected us from the airport and returned us there at the end of our stay. Brilliant. Not really a dislike but the accommodation is a short 5 min walk away. Not a problem for us but might be for others.

• Monika (10/5): Absolutely amazing place! - This is a true gem. We have never met hosts like these ones. The couple, Pamela and Carlos, are not only nice and friendly and accommodating, but they seriously try to do whatever it takes to make your Rapa Nui experience unforgettable. They offer an airport transfer and a delicious breakfast at no additional cost, even though these are not included in the booking.com offer. They recommend tour agencies, restaurants and other points of interest that are super reliable. They go as far as taking you to some places if you cannot afford other means of visiting. Don't overuse their kindness! As for the Hostal: the room is quite spacious, the bed is very comfortable, all spaces are spotless clean, especially the bathroom. The room is decorated with much taste. You can use the amazingly beautiful outside terraces with lots of flowers to relax. There is a common kitchen shared by all rooms, which is superbly equipped with everything necessary, even for cooking yourself, which you won't do, because the food offered in the restaurants is delicious. Even though there is no air con, the temperature in the room is pleasant with windows open. There are some chickens in the backyard and a lovely cat, that adores snacks. Overall the quality that you receive for the money paid is unbelievable, so look no further and book now!

She is constantly doing extra things for the guests to make their stay more comfortable and more enjoyable. In addition, she is a great source of knowledge about the island's tourist facilities, the history of the island and Rapa Nui culture. This was our fourth visit to the island and Hostal Makohe was by far the best place we have ever stayed at.

• Stefan (10/5): Faszinierende Insel, herzliche Menschen, erstklassiges Hostal - Das Hostal Makohe Rapa Nui ist eine erstklassige Wahl für einen entspannten Urlaub auf dieser wunderschönen Insel. Pam und Carlos liegt wirklich viel daran, dass man sich als Gast hier wohl und gut aufgehoben fühlt. Von der herzlichen Begrüßung am Flughafen über das ausgesprochen schmackhafte tägliche Frühstück, das Wäscheservice bis zur Bereitschaft, jederzeit zu helfen - hier kann man es sich gut gehen lassen. Auf Sauberkeit wird geachtet (Hausschuhe!) was wichtig ist, da man von Ausflügen fast immer staubig zurück kommt. Das Hostal liegt etwa 5 Gehminuten von der Hauptstraße von Hanga Roa entfernt, wo es alles Notwendige zu finden gibt (Touren, Rad- und Autoverleih, Souvenirs, Cafés). Genauso weit ist es an die Waterfront von Hanga Roa, mit vielen netten Lokalen und den Badebuchten. Ideal liegt die Unterkunft, wenn man abends den Sonnenuntergang am naheliegenden Ahu Tahai genießen möchte. Die Bewohner von Rapa Nui sind generell sehr entspannt und freundlich. Da Gäste fast nur mittels Flugzeug auf die Insel kommen und die Zahl durch nur 1-2 Flüge am Tag klar limitiert ist, wurde die Insel vom Overtourism bisher zum Glück verschont. Man ist hier zu besuch und gern willkommen, aber es gibt auch einen lebendigen Alltag neben dem Tourismus - und das ist sehr wohltuend. Als Gast tut man gut daran, sich auch wie einer zu benehmen und den Menschen und der faszinierenden Kultur mit Demut und Respekt zu begegnen. Dann wird man mit viel Herzlichkeit und Gastfreundschaft empfangen. Als Hund lässt es ich auf der Insel gut leben. Es gibt sehr viele streunenden Hunde, die allerdings in der großen Mehrheit sehr gepflegt und freundlich sind. Tagsüber liegen sie meist in den Gärten und auf der Straße faul herum, abends toben sie zwischen den Menschen, die den Sonnenuntergang am Ahu Tahai genießen, werden dort geherzt und gestreichelt. Nachts alllerdings können sie etwas anstrengend werden, wenn das Gebell und Gejaule bis spät zu hören ist. Am besten wirklich gute Ohrstöpsel mitnehmen, denn auch die vielen Hähne können in den Morgenstunden nicht oft genug den neuen Tag begrüßen.

• Happy (9/5): Charming and comfortable stay with great host & hostess - The property was charming with great host and hostess. As they couldn't speak English, they got their friend to pick us up from the airport and did a quick tour of the town with us, pointing at key areas to get food or buy national park tickets. We had a welcome drink and although they don't serve breakfast, they bought bread for us and coffee/ tea was free for us to use. We had a room with an ensuite bathroom and although the room was not very large, it was adequate for our use. The room was designed/ decorated with great charm and coziness. Also, the kitchen area was free for us to use. We were overall very satisfied with the property. Just an extra note re the location as it is slightly out of the centre of town (around 15 mins walk). But it was no problem for us as we like the quietness away from the bustle and we enjoyed a good walk. Also, this place is close to one of the key attractions (i.e. Tahai). Not much I didn't like. It's a bit expensive for a hostal but then again, the cost of hostals within Rapa Nui was generally expensive.

The bed was absolutely amazing, the shower had warm water and fabulous pressure. For those that like to use the Internet, the Wi-Fi is great. Now for the owners of this lovely gem; they were sweet, very helpful and every morning Pamela leaves some baked goods. They pick me up and dropped me off at the airport which I appreciated very much. I felt immediately at home and they have been very kindly checking on me each day, putting my laundry inside when it started to rain, driving me to the airport, giving me directions and recommandation… The room and common space are spotless clean and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. There is a small garden with a table which is very pleasant at breakfast. The location is perfect: close to the seaside and close to high street (max 10 minutes walk) The bed is very comfortable I would definitely stay again if I ever go back to Rapa Nui!

• Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful little Hostal in a street as quiet as it gets with all the stray dogs around Hanga Roa. I slept well in a very comfy bed. It offers way more than the usual Hostal which warants the price (it's not cheap on Rapa Nui): perfect kitchen, nice seating areas, fast WIFI, great rooms and bathrooms including mosqito nets in front of the windows, umbrellas, flashlights,... and transfers not only to the airport but other places too. Which brings me to the best part of it: Pamela and Carlos, the owners. The most welcoming people I have ever met, always available, caring, even spoiling us! Taking us places no tourist usually goes to, leaving fruits and bread for us in the kitchen, helping with everything you can possibly think of. I would have loved to stay longer!

• Rebecca (10/5): You will love Hostal Makohe - Everything! This is a lovely place to stay on Rapa Nui. You are a short stroll to the center of town, to the Ahu Tahai and the ocean. Carlos and Pamela are the most gracious hosts. They will make you feel welcome and can help arrange tours, etc. You really could not ask for better hosts. The rooms are very nice and super clean, and have a small fridge. . My bed was so comfortable. The shared kitchen is spacious and clean and well equipped. There is a living room to hang out in and a nice backyard. Hostal Makohe, in my opinion, is really a step up from the usual hostal. It was all excellent.

We were surprised to find that there was no shampoo or soap in the bathroom. We had not been warned about this either by Makhoe or by Budget.com. The tap in the bathroom is awkward and actually wasteful. It splashes water on you if you are not very careful.
• Shirley (10/5): Welcoming, comfortable, no worries - I felt very welcomed at this hostal. The rooms and common areas are clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is varied and tasty, including local products, especially the delicious fruits. The location is a quiet side-street in the town, perfect if you want tranquility but close to sites, shopping, etc. Pamela and Carlos are the ideal hosts, very friendly and welcoming, they offer advice and tips on what to see and do on the island. I recommend this hostal without hesitation and would absolutely stay there on my next visit to Rapa Nui. Nothing!
