Guest Reviews

- Kathy (8/5): Other then that it was pleasant - Close to soccer fields At about 2am a family I think we’re making a huge amount of noise either Commins or going out for about half an hour hence sleep was impossible !
- Guest (10/5): -
- Kyles (6/5): An old favourite in need of a refresh. - The cost was the best thing about our stay (unfortunately).
We have stayed at the Garden City Hotel a number of times previously as it's close to family who we visit, so that's why we stayed here again.
The staff told us that the hotel was about to undergo a major renovation, which is good timing. Even though the room furnishing are a little worn out, the linen and bathroom towels etc. were crisp and clean, which is always a good thing. Check-in was a bit slow as the young woman at reception was fairly new. The hotel was almost empty for our stay (it was a bit weird to be in a hotel so quiet) and even with it being empty were initially allocated to rooms on the lower level, next to the guest laundry and lift. These rooms were dingy, dark, dusty and musty smelling. We asked to be moved and were reallocated to rooms on the higher level for no extra cost, which was great.
These rooms are much brighter and fresher, however the furnishings are worn out and showing wear and tear. The bed was uncomfortable and carpets needed a good clean. There were a couple of small mud patches on the hallway carpet for the 2 days we stayed - not sure if housekeeping vaccumed these carpets over the weekend.
The restaurant was closed at the weekends, so no dinner option on-site, however the Harmonie Club next door was great. Their schnitzels were amazing!!
- Vieanna (10/5): Our go to while in Canberra - A little gem that stands out. It’s now our go to when we have to stay in Canberra. We had the best service by our server Rowan. He made a fantastic coffee, great interpersonal skills for a young bloke. I think he made our dining experience fantastic. I love the breakfast buffet. Good value for money. I loved our evening meals too. A leaking mini bar - (let reception know), a cupboard door wouldn’t shut properly.
The visitors next to us were quite noisy. Not a deal breaker.
- Craig (2/5): Only if you must - Location OK Tired old and under resourced
- Terry (7/5): On the whole pleased with our stay. - Didn’t have breakfast. Slept in. Pillows a little soft. Toilet paper - use atleast 3 ply
- Alison (9/5): convenient, clean snd comfortable - clean and comfortable -
- Angus Knight (7/5): Clean and tidy but a little bit dated. - You get what you pay for with this old motel. Best and Weston are well past their glory days but in saying that it was clean and the staff were friendly. It was well located for us as we only stayed overnight to catch an early plane in the morning. I'm pretty sure in the advertisement it said an extra large double bed but it felt more like a double bed, not even a queen. The bed was reasonably comfortable, just small for both of us who are over six foot. I can't really complain as we knew what we were signing up for. We just looked for a budget-friendly hotel to put our head down and get up early to go to the airport in the morning.
- Diane (8/5): Cheap cheerful bed very comfortable good night sleep - Central to everything with transport Needed a little bit of tidy up, damp patches on ceiling
- Lis (9/5): -
- Meg (9/5): -
- Julie-Anne (10/5): Definitely stay again - Close to the city, quiet. Clean comfortable
- Robert (8/5): -
- Whisky (10/5): -
- McConnell (6/5): Staff friendly, meals choices plain but food delicious - Location Toilet not working properly
- Steve (10/5): a nice room - clean room nothing to complain about
- Cherie (9/5): Great place to stay - Very clean Nothing
- John (8/5): - Room had pleasant outlook. Staff were very friendly Food in the restaurant
- Marilynne (8/5): I'd stay again. - The check-in process was easy and smooth, the receptionists were friendly and helpful. The room was tidy and clean. There was onsite free parking. I gave an 8/10 as I was not there long enough to experience the meals or pool area but based on my experience, it would likely be 10/10.
- Robyn (8/5): - Friendly staff TV didn't work first night - internet issues. But was fixed for second night !
- John (9/5): -
- Chophel (6/5): - It was spacious and convenient to enter in the room. The toilet flush didn't function
- Rob (8/5): -
- Nicole (6/5): - Close to main highways. Cracked and missing tiles in the shower. One tile dislodged when my daughter stood in there. Potential WHS issue if a persons foot was cut.
- Robert (8/5): - Slept like a baby, very quiet. Closeness to food and pubs, bars, had to Uber, so when you add Ubers to price of the hotel, the sums probably mean it’d not cost effective to paying for hotel closer to shops, food, pubs etc.
- David (10/5): Perfect nice and close to the air port - Very clean easy access Can’t complain
- Graham (8/5): Friendly, clean, good bang for buck - Location, cleanliness, Reception staff Hard to fault … bathroom tight & fan noisy
- Robert (7/5): - Management was changing on the day we checked out. No dramas, though. Breakfast was not good. After paying for day one breakfast, we canceled out of day 2 breakfast. Good location next door to the German Club where we had an excellent dinner
- Kevin (7/5): -
- John (8/5): -
- Joan (7/5): - Initially room was good. Trying to sleep well had a light from the passage coming on and flooding the room all night. Needless to say we didn't sleep well. Bed was comfortable - no complaints but its hard to sleep in a bright light.
- Sean (9/5): Well run loction with good facilities, and very capable staff - We have stayed there previously, they always do a good job, it was obvious to us that their occupancy rates were significantly down, due to the current issues most people have with disposable income. Yet their breakfast layout was comprehensive, plenty of food, well prepared and a good range. I really feel for the entire hospitality sector, so hard to make any profit at the moment, mostly due to various Governmental policies which are all outside their ability to con trol. Very little to criticise, they always do a very professional and customer friendly approach.
- John (8/5): -
- Rosa (9/5): -
- Sally (10/5): -
- Carolyn (7/5): -
- Tiny (10/5): Brilliant Gem - Staff are brilliant..quiet location but very central to all of Canberra..awesome on-site restaurant and buffet breakfast Getting abit tired..but still very clean
- Frequent Traveller (6/5): Acceptable Overnight Stay - Comfortable bed, everything we needed for an overnight stay. Bathroom had a broken tile that stuck to my foot on entering the shower and exposed sharp edges that could cause injury.
- Gary (8/5): -
- Lei (6/5): -
- Linda (7/5): - Clean & comfortable Rain water coming in the bedroom window - we used the rubbish bin to stop the rain going on the carpet!
- Lara (8/5): -
- Lara (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Great location and price - Convenient location and good value for money Nothing really
- Sarah (10/5): Will stay again - Great location, price and service Nothing
- Charles (4/5): -
- Sonia (7/5): - Good location. Close to work. Didn't have to pay for parking The smell in the room. I had to leave the bathroom vent on because the room had a bad smell ( like sewerage).
- Eddie (8/5): We have stayed here 4 times - Location The small bathroom
- Simone (8/5): Clean easy and great atmosphere - Clean comfortable lovely breakfast Older but very clean. No microwave
- Brenda (10/5): Very comfortable very clean service was exceptional and friendly very happy and warm place. Thankyou - Location was excellent for very convenient and walking distance to Harmonic German Club for my weekend of Linedancing. Nothing very satisfied with everything.
- Chandrashekhar (1/5): - Polite staff Lack of basic amenities
- Hiniduma (9/5): -
- Roy and Mijina (9/5): -
- Sam (10/5): - Friendly welcome very clean and tidy room There was nothing to dislike
- Emma (5/5): - bed comfort lots of hair in bed
- Teresa (7/5): It’s a nice place to stay in Canberra - Central heating for winter was excellent, nice bed and clean room. The food was good in the restaurant. The location not far from Burleigh Griffin river and cycle paths. The plumbing water noise in the bathroom that occasionally occurs. Noise from the room next door.
- Belinda (10/5): -
- Mary (8/5): Enjoyed very much thank you - Fast and efficient and friendly, helpful staff
- Pamela (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable room. Easy free parking. Great location. Room service prices very expensive
- Bageesh (5/5): If you are looking for a budget friendly place to sleep over night, this might not be a bad option - Nothing specific. It’s an average property. Free parking at the premises is the attraction It is mentioned that it’s a 4 start hotel. Completely disagree with this.
Building old and rooms are congested. I didn’t find any amenities apart from a very small pool.
I stayed there with my wife and kid during Easter break. Booked room including breakfast. Food was average. No hot plates. If you don’t pick the item as soon as it is kept at table, it will be cold. Very limited items. I have requested for an omlet and it was rejected as Cheff is not ready to cook. Breakfast matched with a 2 start hotel.
- Katrina (8/5): Relaxing and comfy. Staff very friendly - Breakfast was really nice. Bed comfy Nothing but only short stay
- Mihai (8/5): -
- BASSAM (9/5): - Comfortable ----
- Brett (8/5): - Quiet location, room was good size, bed comfortable.
Staff were pleasant. Not much around & location was quite isolated, you will need to drive to find a restaurant or to see and sights. At the time of stay Hotel restuarant was closed for dinner so you may need to check if planning to dine in.

- Eddie (7/5): -
- Wakho (9/5): Happy Daze at the Garden City Hotel - This is my "go-to" hotel when I'm staying in Canberra.
Excellent location, away for central Canberra (but not too far).
Large room with lounge suit. Free cable movies.
Free under cover off street parking.
German Club nearby, within easy walking distance Nothing
- Kim (8/5): - Location was fabulous and the free car parking is always a bonus. Front staff were friendly. The fridge had frozen the drinks and the coke had expanded and leaked. The pillows were not the most comfortable.
- Markus (10/5): Terrific beautiful staff very friendly Allgood - Beautiful room comfortable bed very clean and close to Canberra airport Nothing
- John (8/5): Perfect for a short stay -
- Robyn (8/5): -
- Warwick (10/5): It was a pleasure to be able to share my experience with the Canberra experience - There was nothing wrong with the property Sorry I did like the property all things was available to
- NannaJenn (9/5): Great location, helpful, friendly staff, terrific value for money, comfy bed and best shower ever! - The staff were so helpful, a shower chair, plus rails, were provided, and we were allocated a downstairs room, without a problem.
The shower (at least in room 105), was the BEST shower I have ever used in a hotel! The water was so hot, and the water pressure was amazing! So much so, that you didn’t need to have the taps turned on very much at all. And the hand held hose STAYED IN THE THINGY ON THE WALL, it didn’t fall down and bop you on the head, even though there was lots of water pressure.
Plus ….. the little things ….
There was a built in door stop … no struggling to keep the door open while you man handled your luggage into the room!
The little freezer actually kept the ice brick frozen!
We got those little packets of biscuits that most hotels now seem to have forgotten to provide
The oversized towels were very much appreciated.
And, unlike a lot of hotels, the internet actually worked well enough for me to stream Netflix!!!
We shall definitely be staying here again. Nothing, really. The room was a bit dated, but it had everything that we needed.
