Guest Reviews
- Isaiastorres (6/5): Would recommend the private room - The private room was comfortable and the price was good after the genius discount.
The facilities were very clean, shower was good, and kitchen was well-stocked. The location is ideal, situated by Echo Park and a major avenue with lots of restaurants. I would only stay here again in the private room. I had a bunk bed the first night and the mattress had a plastic cover on it (a sheet was placed over the covered mattress) making for uncomfortable sleeping. There seemed to be people staying there more long-term who made themselves very comfortable during their stay (having loud phone conversations, burning incense, parked on the couches for hours). I understood why there are rules against long-term rentals in hostels.
One woman that was in the bunk room with me inexplicably cleaned throughout the night. Combined with the plastic-covered mattress, it meant an almost sleepless night. The staff was very helpful and accommodating to me, so I want to acknowledge that.

The property is perfect
- Veronica (10/5): Number1 hostel - Everything!!!!!
Number 1 hostel in Los angeles
- Veronica (10/5): Dodger fans must go!!!!! - You are in the heart of echo park.echo parks literally A min walk.and dodger stadium is a 5 min walk threw sunset Blvd.
The night life is fun, bars open late the location and community are safe. The property is comfortable you feel at home as soon as you walk in..
- Ruslan (1/5): Bad - Weird people violating my privacity. Bad indications. The owner didn’t answer the phone.
- The (1/5): Bad - The manager Robert is racist towards black women and will deny your booking and rent money without notice for no reason and ask you to move without notice. The same manager will happily rent long term to anyone from booking who is causasian or Hispanic. He ruined my work trip twice and made me miss the celebrity events that I came to the property to prepare for. It was a waste of my money, time, and costed me business opportunities. Also infested with spiders. I got bit while I was there and ended up in the hospital for two weeks. I had to get surgery over it. The bathroom and shower are always dirty and never get cleaned. I will never stay there again.
- Katarzyna (8/5): Very good - The room was nice and in a quiet area. The hostel is conveniently located near Echo Park, close to public transport.
- Zavala (9/5): Superb -
- Bow (10/5): Sightseeing and eating - The host was attentive and the I really liked the location. The nearby Echo park/wetland conservation has a great view of the city, especially at night. I was fortunate to have a family member with a vehicle to get around town (tar pits, Korean BBQ, beach North of Malibu, etc) but also did a fair bit of walking (from the hostel to Griffith Observatory and had a great time.
- Lulseged (8/5): Peaceful - Clean and quiet No complaints
- Yukali (10/5): Exceptional - The space downstairs and the patio
- Martell (7/5): Overall, my stay at Echo Hostel was a great experience. The location is ideal — surrounded by plenty of restaurants, gro - The property was comfortable and in a nice location; lots of restaurants and grocery stores. The Bathroom could be touched up daily with cleaning.

- Bermúdez (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rr (7/5): Good - Location, easy checkin Very thin walls. You can hear evrything from toilet and another rooms. I could be cleaner
- Jacob (10/5): Exceptional - Had a room all to myself! I didn’t expect that. It was quiet and the bunk bed was so comfy.
- Brandon (8/5): No frills, no nonsense. straightforward accommodation for 1 person 1 night. - Location was fine- easy to get in although it was important to have the confirmation email from them, because it included the code for the front door and the room assignment. There are NO VISIBLE STAFF on premise. That was a bit surprising at first but it worked out just fine. My bed was private with an opaque curtain that went all the way around the bunk. Shared bathroom was clean, full common kitchen was outfitted, and a guest was making themselves dinner when I arrived. One of the other ppl in the room had a space heater that made the room very warm. I didn't say anything about it but another guest (4=2x2 bunks per room) asked them to turn it off late at night and they did so. NO TOWELS- towels are $5 extra and I don't know who I would have even paid to obtain one. That was also fine but I'm not sure if it was clearly disclosed at booking.
- Jianjun (2/5): Very poor -
- Sd$ (1/5): Bad - staff, fire that fool Robert
- Utterstep (5/5): Cheap - Location is great. There wasn't any towels present, nor was the hand soap in the bathroom. The place felt like it hadn't been properly prepared for the conversion from a residential place into the shared hostel. Not in the way there were too much stuff, but the reverse problem – the place is way too barebones.
- Taro (10/5): One of the greatest place to stay in Los Angeles. - Facility photos on Booking.com has exactly what my expectation. Well done taking care. Great location, nice Echo Park is just a minute away. Very nice to walk around park. Very fancy supermarket is also a minute away. NY style nice cafe, Organic skin care item shop, Vintage clothing stores, great bars, very good pizza places, Oyster bar restaurant, Fast Chinese restaurant, Sub sandwich restaurant, Mexican food stand and more and more. Perfect location to hung around and meet great local peoples. Only my cell phones signals were very poor somehow. This is not related with this facility but AT&T and T-Mobile both poor receptions. Also Waymo is not work at this location but south side of Echo Park is works.

- Nathan (8/5): Good, inexpensive pick for a short stay to check out the Echo Park area. - Place was in a great spot, right by Echo Park. Hosts were kind and friendly. Check-in instructions were very clear. Some cleanliness issues, like the shower curtain could use some cleaning for example.

- Erva (1/5): Crazy!!! - It’s refreshing to meet travelers and hear their stories. For the sake of money it seems Narcissistic and Toxic are allowed to make others stay uncomfortable .
The manager tries hi best to keep it Zen however it, seems a struggle for him.
And the fact that he never gets a day off to himself which I think is illegal; sets him up to juggle his personal life issues mixed with the drama that occurs in the hostel.
In my opinion a recipe for disaster.
One guest has slept with every woman in the house and, propositioned me as well.
On top of that the Owner came in the house stood in a corner on her phone as if we the guest we’re invisible.
Which let me know as humans we are insignificant.
I suggest the hostel be a real one with a light in each bed, and outlets that are near you without extension cords.
- Erva (6/5): Uncomfortable!!! - You are able to cook healthy and delicious food Toxic people who flip the script , and seemingly have enough influence to sway management to believe you are a trouble maker; when they are the one with some mental disorder.
Character assassins✔️
- Erva (7/5): Stressed! - Making new friends always. Not being in the room I booked.
- Melva (9/5): Peaceful vibe in a prime location. - The property was in an excellent location in Echo Park, one of the city’s hottest neighborhoods. There is easy access to shopping, dining and public transportation. The hostel is well-maintained and clean. The management is attentive and sets a peaceful vibe. I don’t have many complaints.
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional - clean, quite and in a great location

- Kyla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xiaoqian (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel of good size and well facilitated. Owner is quite responsive and helpful. Wifi works well.
- Sd$ (10/5): Hostel - Great
- Lakisha (10/5): Exceptional. I definitely got more than I expected. - The Echo Zen House was just as pictured! Very cozy and comfortable decor with a welcoming vibe. It’s on a residential street but just a block from Sunset Blvd with a Lassen’s grocery and a plethora local and chained restaurants plus a block in the opposite direction lands you at serene and pretty Echo Park. Great location. No homeless loitering. Close to KTown, Downtown, Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
The amenities were stellar. The property was kept OCD clean, had a beautiful scented aroma; well stocked, with full kitchen access that had plenty of refrigeration and cabinet storage and well supplied, sanitary restrooms, with the addition of a cute room that includes comfortable, stable bunkbeds, complete bedding, ample closet space with lockers and plenty of outlets to charge devices. Noise level is low, it was so calming.
The high standards of cleanliness was met daily. Being able to prepare my own meals and get privacy in my bunk via the black out curtains made for a very zen and restful stay after commuting and working in a new city.
Highly recommend for professionals or international travelers. Convenient and easy self check in. The Host, Rob goes above and beyond making sure all your needs are met and making sure you’re in a safe environment. I had an exceptional experience at Echo Zen. I had no dislikes or complaints about my stay at Echo Zen House. The first night was freezing. Rob came in later that night and turned on the heat and help us with how to use and adjust the remote and gave out extra blankets into the house got warm.
- Dj (10/5): Exceptional - I’ve stayed at Zen Hostel a few times and really enjoy it whenever I’m in town. I keep coming back because it’s clean and has a great atmosphere.
- Papi (5/5): Passable - Way too hot in the bedrooms. Air conditioning.
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alessandro (6/5): Overall is fine, location is quite near to downtown but gotta improve some details and making others feel more safe - It’s a nice house and the manager was very kind and welcoming. Clean cool overall. There’s no sign to recognize the house, I was quite worried of getting into the wrong one at evening and of course trouble could arise. It as very nice and clean but some “doggy” people were in, making it hard to sleep because of the loud noise they were making in the evening and night. I’m not 100% sure but I felt like they were under drugs, making me quite worried. I wanted to stay longer but the experience of that night wasn’t pleasant, so I decided to leave. But very nice added point to the clean environment and the manager, very nice and polite.
- Marianne (5/5): Passable -
- Kevin (1/5): Bad - Smelly shoes inside room
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tomimatsu (10/5): Exceptional - chill, calm, clean, refreshing aroma of incense, gentle and helpful staff, robert, the most perfect accommodation for travelers who seek a soothing atmosphere and solace. during my one-week stay in this hostel, i was able to meet quite a few guests, who are friendly, willing to help me for nothing and talked on a various topics over the difference of our cultural background. not only non-us citizens, but many us citizens stayed here, and they are really nice guys, who were never hesitant to help me. the bathroom(really spacious) the kitchen, the bed room and the living room are all meticulously hygienic! those pieces of furniture are brand new, pretty cozy!! in the morning and evening you can enjoy the walk around the echo park, which is located in just two minutes’ walk, and also absolutely helps you heal your mind. you will find the street musicians, duck boat lovers and playing kids pretty lovable. around 50 meters’ walk takes you to the nearest health-conscious but reasonable supermarket. the access to dodger stadium, grand park, the board, a museum, the food market are also easy by taking a walk or a bus. so i have no reason not to recommend this hostel!! maybe only downside to upload this comment is let you know how brilliant this hostel is. this hostel has totally changed my impression on Los Angeles, and the U.S. of course in a super positive way!!
- Hannan (9/5): Great and comfy stay - I absolutely loved this little zen oasis! It had more of a bnb feel than a hostel. It smelled amazing too! Shout out to Robert for adding that nice touch. The kitchen and living room area, alongside the private bathroom were the highlights to me. Easy digital check-in and enough safety. Great host too and it's very easy to talk to him. I also liked the fact that they fixed the drain as soon as I made mention of it being clogged. Lovely area! Some restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Echo park is actually gorgeous! The only downside: it takes a while by public transport to get to downtown and other areas, but it's do-able. It was so cold in the room at night. I woke up a couple of times due to the cold. Robert explained to us that they couldn't install a heater in that room specifically. I am guessing all the other ones have a heater. The living room definitely had one and was nice and warm. The girls in my room weren't very considerate unfortunately. They kept waking me up in the early AM with their noises.
- Erva (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zhepeng (2/5): If you are a clean person, DON’T STAY HERE! - Nothing It has a kind of unpleasant smell everywhere in the house. You can even smell it from your clothes after leaving there for a day. It’s not well reconstructed for hostel. Some of the beds are exactly under the light for the whole room. Some beds are very close to the heater port. During that night, someone sets the thermostat to 77-79F and my bed was sure hot under the heater port. I changed it to 70 and the people changed it back to 77 later. Also because a lady stay in the bed under me was loudly snoring for the whole night. The shower is not well cleaned, I didn’t take shower. Bad smell+hot+snoring lady made me hard to sleep and leave the place and sleep in my car after 4AM. If you are a clean person, DON’T STAY HERE!

All details is thru email and digital communication which is challenging specially if you don't have internet connection. it works and new to me though there is no person to talk to when i arrived.
- Isabel (9/5): Superb -
- Evgeny (10/5): Cosy, CLEAN, welcoming, safe, convenient 9.5/10 - Cosy, CLEAN, authentic place with lots of character and charisma, great location, the host Rob is super professional, welcoming and cool. I wish blankets would be warm. It's getting chill at night.
- Deja (10/5): Exceptional - For those who are into aromatherapy; it smells line essential oils as soon as you walk in. This hostel is absolutely zen. It's a great place to stay if your working in LA or visiting. I have no complaints 🙂
- Tiolu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sem (6/5): Location ideal, okay for one night stay, not sure if I would come again - Location good, neighborhood seemed safe and close to union station. In the morning a beautiful walk by echo lake. Instructions for getting in and out were simple and straightforward. Shower was good and clean. Beds were big and clean as well. Smelled like weed throughout the building. No one there to welcome you. Bit of an eery vibe
- Smith (10/5): very nice hostel in great walking distance to the echo. - i only stayed for one night as i was attending a concert at the echo. hostel is super close, literally a 4 minute walk away. really nice facilities. i occasionally had issues trying to enter the room as i found the pincode lock a little finicky but that was most likely user error. other than that everything was excellent.

So you can store and cook while you are there.Close to Echo Park and Sunset Blvd( you can get public transportation here). Supermarket and Pharmacy less than 5 minutes away. Met some wonderful people while staying here, No complaints. Only wished checkout time was 12 noon instead of 10am.

- Mason (5/5): For it to be my first hostel it was okay. It gave me the experience and also assures me that I don’t ever want to do it - Outside of maybe the location that’s it. I liked being able to sit outside on the porch and people watch I might not be the best person to review this type of thing since I’ve never stayed in a hostel before and this was my first one but it’s not the house wasn’t clean it was more so that it was like just old I suppose.
