• stephen (2/5): very disappointed with the accommodation definitely not value for money only downside of my stay. - the bedroom fan covered in dust, fridge was iced up in the freezer compartment could not put anything in it, dogs jumping on you when i went to use the bathroom, no parking on site as advertised had to park across the street. Stairs leading up to front door no handrail or anything to hang onto felt very unsafe. Shower was ok but toilet was dirty around the seat

• Britt (4/5): Clean room but not as the advertisment suggest and owner itself was a bit rude - It was clean I guess that the advertisment is a bit misleading. You just get a (small) room in someones house, who is also home. There is a private badroom and toilet, but to get there you have to cross the livingroom of the family. There are pictures of the living and kitchen: bot can not be used (because of the family who uses it). There isn’t mentioned that there are big dogs. The owner will put them away during the stay, but it does smell like dogs inside and if you have an allergy (like my friend), it is a bit of a problem. The owner herself was nice in the beginning, but when we showered (at 10pm) she got very angry that we woke her up altough we tried to be as quiet as possible. The way she spoke to us, guests, was very unprofessional. The airconditioning can’t be put lower then 24degrees, which is pretty high for a small room.
• Martina (1/5): Very bad experience - It was clean This was a very uncomfortable and disappointing stay. We chose this homestay because the listing clearly stated that guests had access to a kitchen. Based on this information, we brought simple food to prepare light meals (sandwiches, eggs, avocado). When we politely asked to use the kitchen to cook the eggs, the host was clearly unhappy and almost refused. We were given a tiny corner of the counter and felt watched and unwelcome the entire time. It felt as though our presence was an inconvenience, despite us being quiet, respectful, and mindful throughout our stay. Furthermore, several common areas shown in the photos (such as the pool table and other indoor spaces) were not available for guest use. We were only allowed to eat outside at the front of the house. This experience was very different from what is described in the listing and what previous reviews suggest. We did not feel welcomed at all, and the description of the property is misleading regarding kitchen access and shared spaces. Unfortunately, we left feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. Based on our experience, we do not believe this property should be listed as it currently is.

• Emily (10/5): Lovely stay with amazing hosts! - Hosts were absolutely lovely, clean and comfortable room and loved meeting the dogs too!! Only about 10-15 minute walk (if that) down to Horseshoe Bay and decent bus service in the area. Amazing say - would highly recommend.

• chloe (4/5): - Nice room, clean, informative, woman who checked us in was friendly Didn’t like that the private bathroom was across the property, we assumed it would have been an on-suite. We felt uncomfortable at the fact the man (who I assume was the other owner who we hadn’t met) came to our door at 1:30am to tell us we were being too loud (which we might have been) but being 2 young girls staying in the room for 1 night we feel it was inappropriate as we had not met this man and after telling him we were sorry and that we were going to bed he continued to stand there and reprimand us for a continued time (which was unnecessary). We understand it is a shared space and we might have been too loud however, as we had not been introduced to this man we feel it would have been more appropriate for the woman to come and tell us, or he should have left after we apologised the first time rather than hanging around. This made us very uncomfortable and we were quite happy we were leaving the next morning.

• Jeanette (8/5): Comfortable and privacy given. - the room was cool and comfortable. bar fridge provided. The room could have a mirror for dressing. A kettle and tea and coffee could also be provided in the room. Window louvres needed cleaning. Pillow cases stained.

• Joshua (9/5): Lovely! - Je voelde je heel erg vrij in een andermans huis. Voor ons heel erg fijn verblijf, was weer iets anders dan een hostel. De omgeving is echt prachtig, met alle flora & fauna. Dee is heel vriendelijk, meedenkend en gezellig! Ook voor op de veranda je maaltijd nuttigen met een prachtig uitzicht, was heel fijn. Niets!

• Sandile (5/5): - Very close to the beach and public transport. It’s not a room with ensuite. Bathroom and toilet are not close to the bedroom.
• Jonny (5/5): Misleading and unwelcoming - The room had everything we needed, we could not complain about the cleanliness of the facilities either. The WiFi was also a bonus. Matt the taxi driver being the highlight of our trip! First of all, it wasn’t clear from a brief view that this was a home stay - it could be far more apparent. It is included deep in the description which the host was quick to tell us on her introductory tour of the house - ‘it is in the description, you just didn’t read it fully’. As mentioned the facilities are acceptable, however the toilet/shower is on the other side of the living room which both of the hosts have a view of at all times. This results is a huge lack of privacy and causes discomfort. There were dog hairs left in the bath which we could see without much effort. The host added to our discomfort by hoovering and making a racket an hour prior to our checkout time - ensuring we were awake to leave! We were waiting on a taxi to the ferry terminal and were told to wait outside rather than being welcomed and allowed to wait inside for this - resulting in us being kicked out to the porch prior to the checkout time.

• Judy (10/5): Great location, great family. - Family were exceptional, beautiful location, house was very modern and homely, family were very helpful, went out of their way to make the stay wonderful. Everything was exceptional, nothing to improve.

• Alexander (5/5): Unangenehmer Aufenthalt. - Überwiegend sauber, solide Ausstattung Unangenehme Gastgeberin. Scheuchte uns mehr oder weniger aus dem Haus, obwohl wir die Check-out Zeit einhielten und gab unfreundliche Kommentare ab („ihr hättet früher aufstehen können“). Bei Buchung nicht eindeutig genug als Homestay gekennzeichnet. Man nutzt die selbe Küche und Wohnzimmer wie die Gastgeber. Zum Bad muss man einmal quer durch die Wohnung. Gepäck muss bis zum Check-in vor dem Haus gelagert werden, obwohl genug Abstellplatz im Haus vorhanden ist. Gastgeberin stornierte nach Abreise die Buchung, mit der Begründung, dass wir nicht angereist wären. Gibt besser gelegene Unterkünfte auf der Insel.

• Patricia (8/5): Description misleading in - Great location, clean enough First thing Dee told us was, "You need to be clear this is a homestay," an indication that the description is misleading. To access our bathroom, we had to walk across the family living area, which was kinda creepy. We felt decidedly unwelcome to use the kitchen; thankfully we didn't cook. Filthy under the bed. Dee wasn't exactly over-welcoming, running hot and cold. Would not stay here again...

• Haskell (4/5): We decided not to stay. - Nice, clean and friendly home owner. Location ok. If you don't mind being in someone else's house it looks like a good place to stay. Single bedroom in someone's house. Bathroom on the opposite side to the property, meaning you'd have to cross the house to use the bathroom, awkward during the night. We didn't stay as we wanted more privacy..

• Crighton (4/5): Wouldn’t recommend to a young couple - Location Upon arrival we didn’t feel overly welcome. It was clear that the bedroom and bathroom hadn’t really been cleaned the only thing we felt was actually clean was the bedding. There was dust most places in the bedroom and ants crawling on the bedside table. There were cobwebs in the bathroom facilities and the floor didn’t feel clean. We also didn’t feel very comfortable having to walk to the other side of the home to use the bathroom while the host was watching tv.

• Ella (9/5): The best stay with the best hosts! - Had a lovely time staying at Island Room on Magnetic Island hosted by the friendliest family I have encountered during a homestay. Dee made sure to make sure we felt right at home from the moment we arrived. The house is located within 10 mins walk of Horseshoe Bay, with a 5 min walk to the main bus stop that takes you around the island. Dee provided us with the best way to maximise our time on the island as we were on there only two nights which was so useful. The house was very spacious and the room is well equipped with a fridge, tv, extra blankets and a fan if needs be. Dee and Aj run a water-sports company as well so you can book paddle boards and kayaks and get a 10% discount if you are staying with them. There is a pool table as well which you can use if you so please. The dogs are also very friendly but mainly stay outside of the home. Overall, great hosts with a lovely home! Nothing. Was genuinely happy with my stay.

• Mari (10/5): Best owners ever! - The accommodation and the owners were amazing! We had such a good time with Dee and AJ. We just started one night, but it was enough to appreciate how good people they are. We were celebrating a birthday and they even improvised a cake with candles!
