Guest Reviews
- Michael (9/5): -
- Dawn (9/5): We liked the "Barrel House," but suggest some functional improvements. - We had to leave on the ferry which leaves at about 7:00 A.M. on Sunday, before breakfast which, possibly, could be ordered to go. The venue was quite close to the ferry, and we easily walked to it. The sun comes up at St. Eustatius early enough so we could walk in semi-daylight. This single, two-story venue is very nicely built and furnished with a kitchen. It is associated with another regular hotel, the Gin House, which is next door. The "Barrel House" is built into a nice seaside restaurant with which it shares windows. The narrow-slat curtains do not totally block the view from the outside into the Barrel House. Less revealing curtains would be desirable. The entry door has a rotating ring instead of a doorknob which is very confusing if you don't know how to operate it. We had to telephone for help in order to get out. Written directions on how to exit should be on the door. A rare flat street is on one side, and occasionally, a car will speed by, noisily testing its acceleration.
- Arno (10/5): The best place near the ocean on Statia - Finding a good and affordable place on Statia can be a challenge, but I was very happy to have 'discovered' this gem. The location is just perfect. The appartement is spacious with everything you can expect. The best restaurant on the island is right next to it, actually it part of the same building. It is true that during restaurant hours you will have guests dining next to the place. It was not a disturbance for me at all, and the good part, every morning you have the place for yourself. Your private terrace next to the ocean. The neighbors at Gin House serve a breakfast if you don't want to make it yourself.
I loved the Nespresso coffee with cups being replenished every day, same goes for new bottles of waters every day. Great service that makes a difference.
The place was clean and comfortable. I know you have accept the internet Statia has, but a wifi extender/repeater for the bed room would be an improvement. Ground floor wifi is full. Upstairs often not available.
- Rosalyn (9/5): loved the loft style apartment and the views were incredible. - The location and the apartment was very nice it exceeded my expectations. The host was also very nice and showed up on time with a friendly smile. I wish the apartment had bathroom soap, shampoo and conditioner would have been nice but not a deal breaker.
- Spanner (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (9/5): Wonderful oceanfront suite - Location directly on the ocean in a 300 year old restored historic building. Spacious accommodation Excellent restaurant attached. Private courtyard with direct view of the ocean, with beautiful sunsets.
Wonderful staff, owners, as well as anyone else we met on the island. Very safe, with no crime that I am aware of. Sybolt and Marlies arranged airport pick up and had rental car delivered next day.
Walking distance to many historical landmarks. No crowds anywhere on the island. Overall, wonderful stay. Personally, nothing. If someone has difficulty with stairs, keep in mind the bedroom is up steep stairs and the bathroom is on the first floor
