Guest Reviews
- Adrien (8/5): - Great location comfy bed good pool quiet area even with chickens and dogs No cooking facilities a bbq or hot plate would have been perfect but it does have z microwave
- Joann (10/5): Accommodation and host that genuinely made our holiday better. - Avarua Escape exceeded our expectations in every way. Stacey’s communication was outstanding — quick, friendly, and incredibly helpful from the moment we booked. As we were arriving on Easter Sunday evening, she kindly gave us advice on what would still be open for dinner and even helped organise food for us so we had something to eat when we arrived. That level of care was so appreciated after a long day of travel.
Our unit was perfect for the two of us — spotlessly clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed, along with lots of thoughtful extra touches that made our stay even more special. The location was ideal: close enough to town for an easy walk, and very handy to the bus stop for exploring the island.
The bed was cosy and comfortable, and the shower had excellent water pressure. The air conditioning was fantastic and ideal to get back to after a day out in the heat. There was plenty of parking space, the pool was fabulous, and we appreciated having access to a washing machine at no extra cost.
Stacey instantly made us feel welcome. We discovered we had a lot in common and genuinely enjoyed getting to know her. Knowing we planned to self-cater, she gave us wonderful recommendations on where to shop for groceries, along with great suggestions for eateries, bars, and places to explore around the island. By the time we left, it felt less like leaving accommodation and more like saying goodbye to a new friend.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend Avarua Escape to anyone visiting Rarotonga. We didn't like leaving.
- Vanessa (10/5): I can’t wait to come back! - I loved that it was so close to town & the facilities were great too. The bus stop & centre of town was within walking distance about 10mins, a small grocery store was just 3mins down the road & if you walked further Raro Fried Chicken was on the same road which is open 24/7. A quick dip in the pool every day to help keep cool. I already miss the doggos, Evie, Motu & Honey. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
- zianna (10/5): Amazing. Nice, small, quiet, relaxing and comfortable. location, felt like home soon as I walked in. - Clear instructions on where to find keys in lockbox.location of lockbox was easy to find as well
- Grace (10/5): A wonderful experience, we would definitely recommend and come stay again! - Everything was perfect. Avarua Escape was in a really good location in relation to the main town, and the facilities were everything we needed. Stacey the host was really helpful and welcoming. N/A
- VICTORINO (10/5): It was wonderful. - Location was not far from the airport and convenient, spacious room and den area. Spacious parking area and hidden away from traffic. The driveway was a little narrow considering the steering wheel on the rent a car was on the right side. I arrived at night so it was a little hard retrieving the key from the lock box because the security light was only on one side of the residence not where unit 2 was located.
- Leslie (9/5): It was perfect for our 9-day stay in Rarotonga - We were there for a sporting event. The property was easy walking distance to the event and very central for everything we needed. Stacey was very welcoming and we appreciated the essentials for breakfast on our first morning. Even fresh mangoes from the tree outside. It was peaceful with lovely gardens and a pool that was much appreciated. It had eveything we needed. We will be back!
- Marina (10/5): - The second I walked into the beautiful apartment, I felt welcome! Spacious, clean, comfy, central and walking distance to shops, market, bus stop, ...
The hosts were amazing! Dianne, Alan and Stacey were the friendliest and funniest people I have ever stayed with. Helpful, generous, very inviting.
Feeling so welcomed added positively to my stay in Rarotonga. I found myself some new friends and left as a very happy person :)
Thank you for all you did! I appreciate you I didn't like that I had to leave
- Kaia (7/5): -
- Raymond (10/5): -
- Tipene (9/5): - Clean and quiet with simple mini kitchen and adequately stocked as such.
The pool was beautiful, and salt water helped with not liking chemical ones.
Value for money
Hosts were away on holiday, and their friends hosted us. Nice friendly and caring people who helped us when needed and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We brought our our toilet paper as we didn't see more in the laundry room. However, we were also fussy with toilet paper, so we didn't mind
Bbq wasnt working so we used electric fry pans from both units (our son was in the other villa)
- Sheryl (8/5): - Location was great. Walking distance to the shops etc.lovely quiet spot. Only a microwave available, so on Sunday when all the nearby shops and nearby restaurants are closed we had to make sure we had planned ahead with some food that only needed to be heated.
Very dim light in lounge.
- Karyn (10/5): -
- Jackson (7/5): Mostly excellent but hot water failed on us one night as the gas was empty. - Appreciated the cereals and milk provided
- Russell (1/5): AVOID THIS PROPERTY so as not to ruin your holiday as it did ours. - We didn’t like anything. The description of location and grounds is completely fictional. The grounds are neglected with rotten coconuts lying in piles everywhere. Dogs and poultry roam the property and neighbourhood fighting day and night, with the roosters competing with dogs barking and crowing day and night. No hot water first morning. After three nights of very little sleep we had to move. The owners insisted on cash payment at start of booking, did not deduct from card supplied in booking. Then only refunded $200 of remaining 6 nights. This is worst property I’ve ever been to through Booking.com and it now makes me doubt your website.
- Marice (10/5): Our hosts were super friendly and so helpful with local knowledge and advice. - Location was great. Accommodation had everything we needed and wanted.
- Guest (10/5): Avarua Escape, it's the perfect escape for a solo traveller, a couple or a small family. - I like how I had my own bathroom and kitchen to cook my own meal plus free Netflix on a 40-50inch TV all on your own. Nothing not to like when they offer everything a traveller needs.
- Bev (8/5): Very good - Shower was spacious.
Jodie had alot of local knowledge which she happily shared Noisey neighbours 2 nights with lights on all night.
Bed was not comfortable
- Bev (8/5): Very good - Compact but spacious
- Sandeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (8/5): More culture-history than sun-surf - * Convenient location to bus, banks, shops, museums, markets
* Supportive hosts, with practical advice and assistance
* Starter coffee-making and breakfast stuff ahead of shopping
* Excellent wifi for computer and media access
* Swimming pool made up for distance from beach * Dim lighting in living-dining area makes reading impossible
* Aircon weak for cooling bedroom overnight
* Some creepy-crawlies entry due to recent fumigation outside
* Scarce street lighting and aggressive dogs if walking after dark
- Ngaoa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Tropical getaway - Great location..pool nice... Driveway was blind on the corner...needs a trim
- Atoa (7/5): Good -
- Rachel (10/5): Perfect homestay vibe🌸 - Check in/out was a breeze! So impressed with this little hidden gem! Tucked away in the back roads
Secluded and private but still so close to town and within walking distance to shops, bus stop, café + the market. Lovely homestay vibes. Friendly and helpful host. The unit was clean, tidy and had everything I needed to enjoy a relaxing holiday + it also included a few little extra treats like - milk, slices of bread, jam, butter, fruit, cereal, tea coffee, sugar. The unit came w a few other essentials like bug repellent, fly spray, sanitizer. A water cooler in the unit saved me money on buying bottled water
Also, the tap water is safe to drink there 🙂
Very spacious for a one bed unit.
Helped myself to the fruit trees on the property - mango & starfruit 🥭
Pool was nice to cool off in after a walk to town. Access to the washing machine and dryer. The weather was crazy for a short period and the lovely Jody reached out to check if I was ok and offered me a ride to where I was going.
I felt safe here as a solo traveler 🙂
I have reccomend this accommodation to friends and family and I will definitely be booking another stay here! The sooner the better!
Thank you Avarua Escape and hosts Bruce and Jody xx I regret not checking into Avarua Escape sooner!!!
I booked a one night at Club Raro resort for my first night stay in Raro - it was so hectic there especially while checking in/out, the staff seemed very overwhelmed and it was a bit of a wait to be assisted. Not even a small complimentary carton of milk for the complimentary tea/coffee/sugar in the room 😆
- Natasha (7/5): Was a great location private and spacious. - Great facilities
- Aaron (10/5): Awesome 👌 - WELCOMING HOSPITALITY, FLEXIBILITY, ACCESSIBLE Nil
- Shaazreen (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly owners, complimentary breakfast set, location At night it was usually all black out outside. Sensor lights were okay but would appreciate if there was a solar light that was on full time
- Megan (8/5): Very good -
- Crighton (8/5): Very good - handy location to bus stop and restaurants plastic wine glasses
would prefer table and chairs over breakfast bar
lighting in kitchen/lounge very dim
- Rocky (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff N/A
- Ros (10/5): Well-designed apartment, in lovely relaxing grounds and great location, with kind helpful hosts. - Incredibly relaxing accommodation in beautiful gardens with a pool, in a central location only a short walk from everything in Avarua. Lovely kind hosts, who went out of their way to enhance our stay. Apartment well-designed by people who had clearly thought about every need.
- Olivia (10/5): Peaceful yet close to everything - I travel pretty much non stop and this is one of the best accommodations I have stayed in.
Communication was good before arrival, check in was easy, the space was really clean with good facilities and thoughtful touches. The hosts are so welcoming and helped me out with suggestions, booking tours and hiring a bicycle. Shops, cafe, market and bus stop nearby. I'd love to stay here again. I liked everything!
- Bill (9/5): Rarotonga is a friendly, restful and relaxing destination which is what we wanted and Avarua Escape was accommodation tha - Large area, well equipped, convenient to town, very helpful hosts. All good.
- Mirlande (10/5): Hidden gem, wonderful hosts, free wifi - Very good location! Jodie and Bruce went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time and we were comfortable. Always responsive and available to help!! They totally participated in making our honeymoon memorable. They will be forever in our mind ! Nothing. Everything was perfect. Free Wifi, washer and dryer, pool, good location, wonderful hosts
- John (10/5): It was very nice. Near town. Clean, quiet and relaxing ambience. - Friendly host, clean, quiet accessible facilities Everything was good. I didn't know how to find local TV stations on the smartTV. Only streaming services.
- Luciano (9/5): Superb -
- Whiu (10/5): Fantastic and calming. Loving hosts that we absolutely loved - Hidden secret gem in the middle of town but you would never tell N/A
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely wonderful accommodation and hosts. I do not even know where to start as we didn't just like everything about our stay, we loved it. I can not highly recommend enough. Beautiful location and accommodation, the most amazing hosts, we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We can not thank you enough, Jodie and Bruce, for going above and beyond in every aspect of our visit/stay. We can not wait to come back again.
- Scott (10/5): Jodie and Bruce (Macka) are absolutely wonderful hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and completely a - This property is close to everything and exactly as described and shown in the pictures. Walking distance to nice restaurants, bus stop and grocery store.
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smith (10/5): 100% exceptional stay - We can not express our gratitude enough to our amazing hosts, Jodie and Macca. Every recommendation they made for food, tours, and nightlife activities were exceptional. The Avarua Escape was perfect for us, a beautiful, quiet, and serene setting, perfectly located with all the amenities, and the pool was perfect and private. we can't wait to come back again Meitaki maata Everything was perfect
- Christine (9/5): Very comfortable stay for work in a handy location. - Great location, walking distance to some good restaurants. Really comfortable apartment and it was great having a separate bedroom, the private entrance and the lush garden. The hosts were friendly and easy to talk to. I would definitely stay again. My only suggestion for improvement relates to the lighting in the living area for the apartment I stayed in. The lights were very dim and this made it difficult to work at night and even see if I had cleaned the dishes properly.
- Harry (10/5): Relaxing experience! - The garden and nearby shops and beaches. Had a very relaxing time. There is a filtered water dispenser so I had plenty of water. The hosts made sure I had great experience and dropped me off to the airports! N/A
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (8/5): Our stay was lovely , the unit was great - The coach was not very comfortable and the light in the dining area could have another shade or a standard lamp in behind the couch in the corner would make reading so much better
- Lorenz (9/5): Wonderful experience. I would love to stay there again at my next trip to Rarotonga - Very convenient location, 5 minutes walking distance to all the main shops and restaurants in Avarua town. Quiet, secure and comfortable location. Very clean and spacy apartment. The light on the main room ceiling is too dim, due to the thick white non-transparent plastic screen. I had to take the screen off to have comfortable reading light im the room in the evening. No big deal, but I would recommend installing a transparent screen instead, as the light bulb itself is quite strong.
