Guest Reviews
- Elisabeth Fenny (9/5): Relaxing - Amazing place really nice people, it is far up the mountain so take some snacks and be aware you have to carry your luggage up (or store it in Minca and take a smaller bag). The hostel has meals basic but really nice. You can pay with card and cash. There are nice hammocks you can relax in. Many birds and very calm. From there many cascada's close by and nice hikes. It was very clean and good wifi. Also tables to work from. You van make friends but can also do your own thing. /
- Oscar (9/5): - Great location. Perfect if you're looking for a quiet place.
- Aymon (9/5): -
- Yeisson (10/5): Genial - Excelente!

- Sebastian (10/5): The best place to relax and get out of the daily routine - This was my second time in this hostal! I enjoyed everything about it! The owner and the staff are very kind and nice!
The place is roughly 40 minutes away by walking from the town and it requires you to be physically fit, which is perfect for me since I like walking and to be physically active, though you can take a motorcycle to get there.
There are attractions nearby the area which you can reach on foot. I visited “Hidden waterfall” which is 15 minutes away and “Pozo azul” which was around 35 minutes away!
The hostal is very cozy and perfect to relax! It has a lot of hammocks with beautiful views, and this place has an amazing view of the sunsets!
Definitely coming back in the future! Everything was really good
Cerca a cascada Escondida y a pozo azul
- Kim (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay at if you are looking for tranquility and being away from all the hustle and bustle of the town. It is a remote little hostal with an amazing nature and facilities.
Getting there; is a bit bumpy but again if you are in Minca and want to stay somewhere away from the crowds this is something you need to make peace with. From Minca you can either walk ( la hike uphill) for 40 mins of get mototaxi for 8 mins (20k COP). The road is quite bumpy so be ready.
The rooms; are clean and has everything you need. There is no hot water but it should not be a suprise for you if you are travelling to Minca, there is usually none. There are bunch of hammocks for you to spend your time chilling with the sounds of birds and nature around you.
The food; the breakfast included is quite good and the usual you get in Colombia, some eggs arepas and fruit with coffee / tea. There is no lunch available and this is important to keep in mind cause you will need to walk/hike 30-40 mins one way to get to lunch options around since this part of the river is way less inhabited you need to cross the river. You can get dinner at the hostel for a fair price, the menu chages but they accommodate for vegetarians as well.
The activities: there are some nice hikes and waterfalls around but we did not do much besides chilling at the hostal since we were looking forward to some downtime. They have a nice little guide for you to see your options.
Honestly, we would choose this accommodation over and over again if we were ever to come back to Minca. It is new, has a great location and amenities, people are very nice and kind, you can just turn your brain off and relax. 10/10 would reccomend!
Ps. There is little to no sound proof especially in the quite mornings and evenings soo keep that in mind for everyones peace of mind please…

- Mike (7/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): - Sehr schönes Hostal in bester Lage.
- Ramirez (8/5): - Es un lugar muy tranquilo, los huevos del desayuno EL LUGAR LO TIENE TODO PARA SER PERFECTO, SERIA RICO PODER DISFRUTAR DE UN CHOCOLATE CALIENTE O UN BUEN CAFE, NO CUENTAN CON ESE SERVICIO, EL CAFE DESCEPCIONANTE PARA SER EN MINCA.
- Laura (10/5): - Amazing views from the garden and terrace! I was sick so I just wanted a nice place to relax. This was the perfect place. There are enough hammocks for every one. You can get breakfast and dinner and buy drinking water which is convenient since it's such a long way to town.
Make sure to only bring a small backpack and leave your big bag somewhere else. It's a long, steep hike from Minca or you can go with a motorbike taxi (no cars!).

- Stewart (9/5): Good WiFi, beautiful sunset. Far away from town. - The beds were comfy, they offered mosquito nets. The WIFI was very good the whole time for us, even in our rooms. They offered breakfast included which was very tasty every morning. The offer dinner, most expensive meal is 30,000 COP and they change up the dinner every night (only 3 choice every night). The hammocks everywhere are GREAT! And the sunset is unbeatable, the sunset makes the hike up there worth it. Great location for visiting a couple of the waterfalls as well! Highly highly recommend if you’re looking for more of a nature retreat outside of town. These reasons wouldn’t deter me from booking this place again but something to know. It is a HIKE to get to this place or a 10 minute, pretty sketchy moto ride. It’s kinda of a pain to get into the city and the don’t offer a shared kitchen. (They do allow you to use the fridge to store food)
- Yael (9/5): - Quiet and peaceful, many hammocks, very clean, wifi around the restaurant very good, dinner from 6-8pm with 3 choices (one is usually a greek salad for 25‘000) cost 30‘000 and is always tasty. 1L water costs 1‘000 which is fair i guess. Mototaxi costs 20k in the daytime and 35k at night. The ride up here is pretty adventurous, as there is no proper street. The moto taxi drops you around 250m from the hostel and you gotta walk the final part (3-5min) Breakfast is from 7-9am. Not an issie for early birds ;)
- Yael (10/5): - Mosquitonetz über dem Bett

- Stephen (10/5): I first booked two nights and then added 3 more because I loved it so much! - Being at Vista Verde is like being in heaven. It’s nestled in high up the mountain from town, surrounded by beautiful mountains and the sounds of lovely birds. It’s not that difficult getting there from town. I stayed for 5 days. I wish they would offer different breakfast options.
- Rodrigo (9/5): Lugar maravilloso!
- Inesss8 (8/5): - Amazing view, good breakfast, nice atmosphere. Very strong bad smell in the bathroom.
- Alexander (10/5): Such a wonderful spot, hopefully someday I go back - Amazing construction, comfortable rooms, incredible views Very difficult hike, I wouldn’t recommend for old people
- Selina (8/5): -
- Anna (8/5): Perfect stay to relax and calm down - Quiet, good food, nature, nice stuff Humidity in the cabin

- Leonie (10/5): -
- Jazmin (9/5): - El lugar me pareció hermoso. Super recomiendo.
- Andreas (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and calm place, Friendly owner and personal. It`s a place to relax, less party. Danke und alles Gueti:)
- Pauline (5/5): If you are looking for a quiet place and great view you can go. But except for that there are better options in Minca! - The view is amazing and it is really quiet and peaceful -hard to get there
- the staff
- the food is simple but we get sick with the cheesecake and egg and creme of the pasta
-the laundry we paid for was still wet
-the price for the room we had was not worth it
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ewan (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views, com
- Nicole (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (9/5): Epic sunsets surrounded by peace and hummingbirds - Sunset, quiet, beautiful location, birds and wildlife. Owner pleasant and helpful staff. Same breakfast everyday. No variety or change. the evening meals wasn’t pleasant.
- Maria (10/5): Relaxing stay at Hostal Vista Verde - My boyfriend and I stayed in a private room at Hostal Vista Verde for 2 nights and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The views from the property were second to none. We enjoyed watching the sun set over Santa Marta. It is a bit of a hike to get to the property but you can take a motorbike from Minca which will take around 10 minutes (very adventurous but the drivers know their way around the mountain) and then you have to walk the rest of the way up to the property for another 10 to 15 minutes. The included breakfast was great and we had some of the best coffee here. The hikes to the waterfalls were also accessible from the property. I would recommend Hostal Vista Verde to anyone looking for a more relaxed stay with great views. There was an electric outage after some rain but we brought head lamps so it wasn't too bad.
- Kris (9/5): Peaceful and panoramic - Beautiful out of the way location. Panoramic and peaceful One of my room mates but you can’t help that!
- Benedikt (10/5): Really beautiful and calm house in Minca mountains with great staff! - Great hostal in the Mountains of Minca!
Really nicely Designed rooms with mosquito nets and shelves. Hammocks outside the rooms with a great view of the mountains. Several dinner options are available every evening (25-40.000 COP) as well as laundry Service (8000 COP/kg).
All the people working there are really nice and caring!
Approx. 45 min away from Minca with bigger backpacks (mototaxis can get you there too). Close to Cascada Escondida/Perdida to swim.
Hiking to pozo azul & la candeleria/nuevo mundo are possible without going back to town. Nothing :)
Just be aware that the „street“ to the House is really steep in some parts and carrying luggage is exhausting :)
- Bruna (9/5): Amazing sunset - Lovely place, perfect food, perfect sunset, amazing, really quiet, looks it’s sooo new!!! To get there you need a motorbike and the way to the top, for me, it’s heart faint, so if you’re afraid of motorbike, pay attention.
- Daniel (8/5): Amazing views and sunsets that made it worthwhile for that alone if you want views and nature. - The view was amazing. Beautiful sunsets and very peaceful setting with the hammocks on the verandah. It’s a long way from town so you have to eat dinner at their restaurant which was very average and minimal choice. Also, smoking was allowed in the eating areas which wasn’t nice while eating dinner.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Tristan (10/5): Awesome getaway surrounded by nature - Vista Verde was an amazing, peaceful and enjoyable place to spend five days! It's nestled in the mountains, surrounded by forest, yet feels comfortable and inviting. There are birds everywhere; you can see hummingbirds in the trees and hear toucans in the distance. The food was great, and their prices for beverages were very reasonable when considering how difficult it is to get them to the hotel. Nothing of note; there were two power cuts, but that was not the fault of the accommodation - in fact, it sort of added to the remoteness and peace that we wanted when we picked Vista Verde. As every other review has highlighted, it's a fair walk but it's very manageable - don't be put off by the distance. All the better Minca accommodations are in the mountains as that's where the magic is.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional - It was just as beautiful as the pictures show if not more beautiful. The owners are super helpful and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay here! It’s the perfect place if you want to retreat from the world for a while.
- Eftychia (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (8/5): Beautiful views in a relaxing setting - Absolutely stunning views, some of the best in our 4 month trip. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms, while shared, are very clean and practical. It has a nice social atmosphere but in no way party so you can really come here to relax. Great spot for hiking and birdwatching - you barely have to leave the hostel to see some fantastic wildlife! This place is a bit of a drive / hike from the centre and the mototaxi up is a bit a hairy - not for the faint hearted! You’re very much reliant on hostel food and hospitality, and Id say the food was disappointing. There should be a better selection available even for a smaller family run place seeing as your cut off from the town. Broadly the staff were very friendly but we found the evening front of house to be a bit rude and unhelpful at times.
- Giulia (10/5): Exceptional - The view from the top is stunning
- Demian (8/5): Very good -
- Dorota (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marie (6/5): Pleasant - The breakfast was good. The bathroom had bad smell and the power of water was not enough.
- Jane (8/5): Very good - This is a really amazing hostel. The views, the staff, storage facilities, food, SO CLEAN, lockers. The route to get there on motorbike taxi is quite intense and I’m comfortable on motorbikes. This wasn’t so enjoyable, especially in the dark if you want dinner in the town.
- Jay (8/5): Very good - Hostal Vista Verde is a stunning hostel with incredible views of the valley and the surrounding nature. It isn't far from the Pozo Azul (a beautiful 45 minute walk) but it is far from the main town of Minca so you will rely on the hostel for food which was okay. We enjoyed hanging out in the hammocks and watching the birds in the surrounding trees - we saw two type of toucans, loads of hummingbirds and could hear a pygmy owl hooting at night. Two nights was a good amount of time to stay given its remote location. You will need to take a moto taxi from the main square to reach Vista Verde but it was worth it.
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - Its a trek to get there! Its isolated. Taking a moto taxi is advisable. Bring supplies. The air is fresh, and the birds sing. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The bunk beds are flimsy. Any movement on either level will shake the other sleeper awake
- Jose (10/5): great view - The views are amazing, and the staff is very friendly. There was a hollow pattern on the wall where light entered at night, and that made it a bit difficult to sleep. I would recommend adding some curtains.
- Sophie (10/5): Beautiful hostel surrounded by nature - This hostel is a beautiful oasis of trees and nature, we loved looking out to sea at sunset and during the day chilling in the hammocks, spotting different birds all around you. Staff were friendly and happy to answer questions and set up a bird watching tour which we did one morning from the hostel. The room was spacious, had a mosquito net and the shared bathroom was cleaned every morning. It’s a short walk away from waterfalls. The breakfast was nice but the same every day (eggs and arepas), it could have been mixed up a bit or have the vegan option advertised on the menu. There’s no lunch options so just worth knowing to bring enough food with you or eat lunch out.
I didn’t mind this but the moto taxi is a bit hairy so if you don’t like riding them, be prepared to walk the 30 or so mins from Minca through the jungle.
- Collette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is perfect up there! This is a very unique place that we 100% recommend!
- Gega (10/5): Great place - Very peaceful and quiet place.
- Rebecca (9/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful place - The rooms were lovely and clean, with gorgeous views from the balcony and lovely areas with hammocks and cute seats for you to relax. The sunset views were stunning! The meals were basic but tasty and the accommodated to our dietary needs. We all were late to breakfast one morning and they still prepared one for us. All the staff are welcoming and helpful. They also had mosquito nets over the beds which were appreciated. It’s not that I didn’t like it but the location is a bit out of the way and only accessible by mototaxi or walking 30-40 minutes uphill. It wasn’t too bad but just to keep in mind if you struggle with mobility.
- Alberto (10/5): Great stay to do adventurous things or to just hang around and relax - The location. Also the owner was very nice. The staff was incredible. The views and relaxation. All services you need as a tourist were provided. I can’t say much but if I had to be picky the pillows were a little tough
- Raphaël (9/5): Beautiful sunsets, great location - The view from vista verde is impressive! We were always looking forward to be back at 5 pm to admire the sunsets. Who might be the owner was very helpful, giving us tips of where to go and what to see around. We totally recommend to go there. The hike from the main town (minca) is short (30 mins) and nice, but can be a bit harsh so try to avoid it when you have luggage. In the rooms there are not mosquitos, but in the common areas is coming to find them, so bring your strongest repellent, you will need it. Might be nice to change the breakfast once in a while
- Adam (8/5): Beautiful stay in Minca - The view from the hammocks on the terrace is absolutely stunning and we enjoyed watching the sunset and chilling here during a lightning storm.
Breakfast was very nice, dinner is quite basic but nice, the area is quite rural so you will be eating at the hotel. The prices were quite fair which was appreciated as some hostels increase prices in remote locations
This is a rural budget accommodation in Minca and should be viewed as such so don’t expect hot water etc It is quite difficult to get to the property, make sure you follow the instructions of the hostel and not google maps as you will end up the wrong side of the river like we did and have to walk back to town! Motorbikes are the way around but we didn’t fancy them so it’s about a 45 minute walk uphill on dirt paths. You’ll need to be relatively fit to walk it
- Moritz (10/5): Exceptional - Really beautiful hostel with friendly and helpful owners. Perfect to start some hikes. Comfy beds. Beautiful view.
I didn't mind the way up and walked it regularly as it was just nice and also safe at night. I was always greeted with something to drink when I arrived
- Mait (9/5): Superb - Location was exceptional
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Oksana (10/5): Exceptional - Vista Verde is a little corner of paradise! Very calm and peaceful place, perfect for birdwatching in the morning, chilling with the book in the hammock. The popular hike trails are also at the doorstep and it’s only 15 min walk to a beautiful waterfall. The owners of the hostel are very friendly and helpful. Julia met us and helped with all the questions that we had. As has been mentioned before in other reviews - the hostel is in a remote location and the hike from the town is quite steep and takes about 40 min. We had small backpacks, so it was ok, but definitely get a moto taxi if you have luggage or not up to a sweaty hike.
- Grégory (10/5): Exceptional - Everything ! The location, the view, the friendly and lovely staff, clean and confortable.
The food is good also.
Gracias ! Nothing
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location. With great views and excellent birdwatching.
- Silvana (10/5): Beautiful view and friendly service 😊 - It is a beautiful Hostal located in between the Sierra Nevada mountains, overlooking the city of Santa Marta and its endless Caribbean Ocean. The property is clean, comfortable and very inspiring. It is surrounded by nature and it is the perfect place for disconnecting from the fast pace city life. The staff is super friendly! as a solo traveler and a woman I felt very safe and taken care off. The breakfast was delicious and the staff very helpful with everything I needed! Hope to come back many times! 😊 thank you for your hospitality.
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (10/5): Book Vista Verde! Perfect stay! - Everything! Room was great, amazing views, plenty of hammocks, friendly and helpful owner and staff, great breakfast, super affordable dinners It's a hell of a walk with a big backpack from Minca but we knew this before and wasn't an issue for us but if you aren't the fittest, be warned it is tough!
- Vullinghs (10/5): Exceptional -
