- chris (9/5): Great setup, love the penguin theme - Well layout and furnished
Very clean and fresh
Great info pack
Great tv and couch Very minor issue
No cooking oil, for the bbq. And no cleaning kit for the bbq
but very well setup, very impressed
- Dianne (6/5): Reasonable value for money. We were happy enough - Mostly Clean and comfortable Shower dropped, vent above shower filthy, kitchen tap didn’t reach second sink, could have had a bench or stand in bedrooms for cases
- Glasirin (10/5): -
- Russell (8/5): -

- Wendy (10/5): Loved it - didn’t want to leave. - I love that it was like a home away from home. Such a peaceful area and well looked after with everything we needed. Did have some little ant visitors sneak from some where but nothing that couldn’t be handled and cleaned up easily.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - There was no breakfast The bathroom had no heater and the house was cold and there was mould in the bathroom the globe on the patio wouldnt go
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent place to stay, just up the hill from the city!, nice and close, and the host was super helpful!.
Everything we needed and beds were very comfortable 🙂👏🏽
- Samantha (10/5): I loved the location of the property, and it was wonderful and cosy. The beds were comfortable. - I liked the fact that it was comfortable and cosy when you walked inside. Cleanliness was great, and the beds were comfortable. Definitely would recommend anyone looking for a great accommodation. Nothing.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Triffett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (8/5): Very clean updated older style property in a quiet residential location. - Clean older style property with a comfortable bed and hot shower. Very quiet residential location. Perfect for a work trip for us as very close to where we spent our days. Didn’t use the kitchen but like the rest of the property it had been updated. Location was OK. I wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic weekend away but it was perfect for our work trip!
- Stephen (9/5): A relaxing place to stay on the outskirts of Burnie - The location was peaceful, and the sea views were an added bonus. The full kitchen was appreciated so that we could prepare our own meals, and I loved the back deck looking out onto the adjoining park, which was a great place to relax on the warm Summer evenings.
- Jago (10/5): Exceptional - Reminded us of home
- Ilma (8/5): Very good - The amenities Nil
- Marlyse (8/5): Nothing flush, but comfortable and good value for money. -
- Briggy (1/5): Not in Cooee and definitely NOT cozy! - The bed was comfortable. Firstly, when a property is advertised as "Penguin by the Sea" and the address says "Cooee", we would expect it to be in Cooee and by the sea. However, this one is located in Shorewell Park, a public housing area nowhere near the sea. 8 km inland from Cooee in fact.
On our arrival we were a little confused as to whether we were at the right address or not. The street where the house is situated looks quite rough and the grounds around the house are in dire need of attention. Completely overgrown and unmanaged. Not what you call a safe play area for children or an ambient area to sit out in the evening. Calling it house with sea views is a gross overexageration as you only get a glimpse of it on a very fine day, if you're lucky.
Stepping inside it feels and smells like an ex rental, doesn't feel very welcoming at all. Couldn't get rid of the stale smell and needed to buy some air freshener, which helped a little.
Not quite sure where the cozy part comes in!!
Mediocre supplies in the kitchen, no mirror attached in the bathroom, no rubbish bin in the bathroom either.
The house also has 4 security cameras, which made us wonder why this is necessary.....??....also has a monitor on the floor in the corner of the living room so you can watch who is outside??!!
Couldn't help but notice how much muck was around the window edges, very badly cleaned.
Fortunately there is a washing mashine and a dryer in the house as we felt the need to wash our pillow cases, as they smelled used.
This property is advertised on other sites as well as "Cozy Penguin with sea views" in Cooee........Couldn't be further from the truth. What a Have.
- Ashlin (10/5): Beautiful stay with a great host - Great host. Well equipped facilities
- Simon (5/5): Cosy place in a not so cozy location. No sea views - Pet friendly, with good sized fenced yard. nice size place I'm pleased to see the location now matches where it actually is as this was very misleading previously. Sea view is a massive stretch, you can catch a glimpse if you stand on your tippy toes in one spot. Not a sea view and a long way from the sea really.
The area was housing commission and is still full of people who think it's ok to rev noisy cars and do burnouts all night. The cameras all over give it away that there might be trouble when you have a monitor in the living room so see who is outside. The camera in the back deck really felt like you're being watched too.
- Harry (7/5): We enjoyed our stay and had everything we needed. Just a difficult time finding it and getting in. - We did not receive the code for the lock box for the keys. I had to ring the owner, who luckily had put his mobile on the booking form.
The sea views were more like sea glimpses.
The garden was dead, not a good 'view' as on the form.
The address was wrong. Not in Cooee but in Sherwell Park Burnie.
- Marion (10/5): Comfortable, clean and well appointed accommodation in Burnie - Cosy and clean little place for us to explore Burnie and surrounds and visit family. Had everything we needed for our 9 day stay and we loved the huge TV for family movie nights.
The owners we’d very responsive and helpful. Would definitely be happy to come back here to stay. Thank you 🤩 Nothing, everything was great 👍
- Kylie (10/5): Great little homely stay for a family, or for business! Very well presented inside, luxury linen - Quality furnishings and quality linen, nicely decorated with a penguin theme! 🐧 clean facilities, homely feel, we will definitely be back! Owners are very friendly and responsive to messages. Home is secure, has been well looked after. Huge TV in the lounge for a nice movie night with the kids (or on your own!) Property was spotless, is kept clean and smelling fresh when you arrive! On the outskirts of Burnie, little bit of a hike to shops etc but all in all a nice place to stay with a homely feel. Nice if you want to be away from all the traffic
- Jeanne (10/5): very pleasurable and comfortable. - Lovely property.. place for my dog to have a run. would have liked to drive my vehicle through the gates, however they wouldn’t go back far enough. would have been easier for an elderly citizen for taking my belongings inside the house.
- Jon (8/5): Quiet and comfortable with good amenities - Value for money, clean
- Edna (4/5): this property is NOT in cooee, but in shorewell park, a 1970s public housing area nowhere near the beach. - it was reasonably clean, if one overlooked the dirt in the rails of the 1970s aluminium sliding windows, the smell from the drains in the toilet and the fact that the sofas had turned slightly brown under the fleecy blankets trying to cover that up. when a property is advertised as “penguin by the sea” and the address says “cooee”, i would expect it to be in cooee and by the sea. however, this one is located in shorewell park, a 1970s public housing area nowhere near the sea. it’s like advertising your place as being located in bondi, when it is in mount druit.
so instead of having a view of the beach and falling asleep to the sound of waves, we had a view of broken down cars on the road and got to listen to the neighbours fight in front of the bedroom window. there was also a high pitched whining sound that kept us up all night, possibly from the tas networks plant we could see in the middle distance, or maybe a neighbour’s generator? we were also a little worried that some of the local youth would nick our car and take it for a joyride, seeing as shorewell park has the highest crime rate in burnie and the gate to the drive didn’t have a lock. the owner of this property must know about this, since the most prominent feature in the lounge room, apart from a huge tv, was a monitor, which showed footage from four outdoor security cameras. watching out for someone to break in is not really how i want to spend a relaxing weekend away..
i would strongly suggest that this is false advertisement, since the address given is “21 rouse place, cooee”, which does not exist, and the house is in fact at “21 rouse place, shorewell park”.
- Fernanda (8/5): Very good - Quiet location, clean and comfortable
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roxane (8/5): Pleasant stay - Clean and well equipped. Spacious.
Quiet, lovely sitting on the back deck and looking at the big gum trees. Comfortable bed and dark curtains. The host assumed that 2 adults would share a bed and had locked one of the three rooms. Not a problem as I slept with my child but something to be aware of noting if you are booking for a few adults.
- Ann (8/5): A pleasant and comfortable house that suited our needs. - A lovely clean, pleasant and comfortable house with everything we needed. We were very happy with our stay at Penguin by the Sea.
- Marilyn (8/5): Very good - Comfortable bed, good heating, clean, tidy, WiFi good. Not enough teabags, would have liked some biscuits 😋
- Fyonna (5/5): The ‘burbs away from the ‘burbs. - The heater worked well and quickly. The house smelt damp and musty, it was located in a street with broken down cars and hoons, and the bed was uncomfortable. The name was also misleading - it’s not in Penguin and it’s certainly nowhere near the sea.
- Russell (8/5): Very good -
- Ashlee (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly host, easy check in. Good pet friendly accomodation, good sized yard and undercover entertaining area. Super comfy couch , large smart tv. Clean and tidy. Can’t complain!
- Margaret (9/5): Comfortable clean and spacious property. Large TV with access to Netflix etc -
- Bernadette (10/5): A pleasant place to stay. -
- Jodie (7/5): Good - Very clean Location wasn’t great.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Garry (9/5): We would definitely choose Penguin by the Sea Cooee again - Great location in a quiet area and the hosts were really friendly, helpful and great to deal with which is always a bonus.
We discovered the Penguin by the Sea Accommodation in Cooee. As we needed budget accommodation for work.
The accommodation is comfortable with great winter heating. The beds are really comfortable great, and that meant we got a good night’s sleep after a long day of travel. The kitchen has pots, pans, crockery, and cutlery, and the home also has a washing machine, iron, and dryer for added convenience.
There is a covered in deck with barbecue for warmer weather, it was too chilly to use while there this trip.
We were able to leave refreshed 2 days later, we would stay there again.
- Tristan (10/5): Exceptional - The host and the house was great. Easy to get around as still close to town but far enough to be quiet
- Jane (10/5): Owner was great to communicate with, house was so comfy and clean. Very very happy. - Very very clean, cosy and everything we needed. Couldn’t fault it.
