Guest Reviews
- Locatie is prachtig! Veel dieren gezien. Dicht bij het strand. Super vriendelijk personeel en kamers goed schoon! Lunch en diner redelijk. Airconditioning aanwezig.
❤️🦋 🦜 Nichts

- Graham (10/5): Relaxing and invigorating week in nature, wonderful staff and excellent food - Beautiful property overlooking coastal forest and soaring Mackaws Nothing
- Lorraine (7/5): Lovely hotel but isolated and expensive - Our log cabin was beautifully designed and very clean. Nice big bathroom. The pool was lovely and the views from the restaurant and pool area out to sea were amazing great view of the sunset. There is also access to the beach which was beautiful too. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was nowhere nearby to go for dinner - unless you drove at least 20 minutes and the roads were so bad - bumpy and potholed - it was too far and dark to walk anywhere. So we were limited to eating at the hotel where dinner was a set menu of 3 courses with no choices of starter or desert and only 2 choices of main for $40 and limited choice of wine was so expensive at $70 a bottle. We didn’t like our starters and wouldn’t have had desert so it didn’t feel like good value to us. It all felt very expensive for what it was.
- Jiri (10/5): - Úžasné prostředí v divočině. Jste obklopeni bujnou vegetací, kde můžete očekávat každý den velké množství různých druhů ptáků a jiné zvěře.
- Alex (10/5): Our stay was absolutely perfect and certainly was even better than our expectations. - Loved absolutely everything! Fantastic food and drinks. Fantastic grounds. Fantastic staff and Manager.
Gorgeous pool with beautiful views. Many birds and animals to view. The grounds had a great layout and each cabin had nice large decks with views. Restaurant had beautiful views and sunsets with parrots flying overhead. Also, loved that they brought a domesticated cat in from the jungle and have given her a nice home and food and water. Very important in my world. We're animal lovers and love cats and Panterra and her friend Charlie, who comes by to visit were a great addition; a WONDERFUL addition because we missed our own cat left at home. Loved everything! Loved the staff ,, the gourmet food, the views, the housing and decks, the pool, the birds and the animals. LOVED IT ALL and would love to revisit again soon; hated to leave. We left and went to two others places and missed the place so much that we returned for our last night there, as well. Absolutely nothing to dislike!

- Jürgen (10/5): Unser Favorit unserer Costa Rica Rundreise - Tolle Unterkunft. Gefühlt mitten in der Natur. Papageien, Affen, Krokodil, Schildkröten Alles direkt dort gesehen. Super nette Leute.

- David (10/5): Perfect jungle escape - Location- the staff. Food. Tours. Pool. Beach. Jungle walks Zero
- Viktoria (10/5): - Beautiful location
- Marco (10/5): Beautiful property and lovely staff - Incredible staff, really good food (kudos to the chef), beautiful terrace with views for meals, immerse in nature, beautiful walks on the beach at sunset Meals were a tad expensive, 40$ per person for dinner (with no wine) seems a bit much
Fantastische uitzichten vanuit restaurant/zwembad/kamer. Heel lekker eten. Een echte aanrader! niets
- Kyong-ae (10/5): Back home in the rain and missing it - The place has beautiful gardens with a stunning view of Drake Bay waters from the pool deck and dining area. The food is outstanding and the staff are very solicitous to ensure your comfort. Communication with Mary at reception during the stay is excellent.
We booked 2 rooms for 4 adults and we were given the cabin with adjoining rooms that overlooks the river pond. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern and comfortable with a large deck. The aircon and hot water worked well, except that there was a region wide power outage for a few hours during our first day, and a problem with the water pump on our second day, which was fixed as soon as possible. I was impressed that the lodge on its own initiative gave us a partial refund for the inconvenience caused, even though it was not their fault. That’s customer service.
The other thing we loved was the abundance of bird and wildlife at the property. We saw coatis, a crocodile, otter, capuchin monkeys, toucans, macaws, hawks, humming birds, etc. This is a place where one can kick back and relax and soak in nature. The beach is 3 minutes walk below the lodge (although the best swimming area is further down the beach), and there’s a tower one can climb with a fantastic view.
One thing to note is that the cabin we stayed in was 70 steps below the main lodge area, which was not a problem for us, but you may wish to ask for a cabin in the main area. Not so much a dislike but something to be aware of. The lodge is a short distance from the airport but about 20 minute drive from town ($20 each way) so the location is not ideal for doing day tours that often start from the town. For example, a day trip to Corcovado starts at 6 am from Drake Bay, so you need to leave the lodge by 5:30 am. This was not an issue for us as we stayed at a place close to town for our first few days in Osa and then moved here for the last few days to relax. However, we did one day tour from this lodge, to the Sierpe mangroves (excellent and highly recommended), because the tour picked us up by boat at the beach below.
- Kyong-ae (9/5): Wifi consideration - Please see my other review of this place. The one real negative I forgot to mention is that if you are staying in the lower cabin overlooking the pond, there is no wifi there, nor data service. The property has Starlink and good wifi on the upper grounds where the main facilities and other cabins are but for some reason has not installed a signal extender for the lower cabin. This was annoying as it would be an easy fix and it’s unclear why the owners have not taken care of the matter.
- Belinda (10/5): Highly recommend! - Best hotel in Osa Peninsula by far. Unbelievable sea views (with sunset) and almost 180 degree panorama. Lots of wildlife spotting from hotel (monkeys, coati, birds, caymans…). View from sea view rooms is great. Private terrace with hammock and chairs. Food fantastic. Recommend booking half board (cheaper rate).
- Belinda (6/5): Amazing hotel but avoid lake view rooms - Hotel is amazing. Views, pool, food, staff. However avoid lake view rooms unless you are a family / friends. There are two adjourning rooms with zero sound insulation. You can see hear everything from the other room. The sea view rooms are individual cabins so totally private - so book these rooms instead (especially as the same price). Lake view rooms offer no privacy. Book sea view rooms only!
- Belinda (10/5): Highly recommend staying! - Fantastic hotel. Highly recommend. Facilities, rooms, service was flawless. Mary at reception is super helpful helping coordinate activities transfers etc. Very responsive. Also able to accommodate dietary requirements with ease if you inform them in advance. I am vegan and gluten free and the food and I had diverse creative dishes every evening Nothing!
- Aisha Noelle (10/5): Wonderful stay at beautiful location. - Beautiful view and location, wonderful staff, good food. Very clean. Nothing to complain. -

- angeles (5/5): Great location - at current prices and service - not worth it - The place is nice, great views and great spot. Rooms are very basic. Ours was the family villa, seven beds in an open floor with a tiny bathroom, no hot water, a bit like a dorm, at $750 a night. When I indicated a bit of a shock I was immediately told - this is what you booked, it was in booking- not sure about it. As a family of 5 I am normally given two rooms with booking. They charge you for breathing, all the growing pains of a new business are charged to the customer. We wanted to change our booking and was told Booking didn’t allow it but then went to Booking and was told it was up to the hotel, and this was the owner speaking.,And our booking kept being updated with the questions or issues we had, probably to cover for not providing all the information upfront. With the prices they charge, expectations are high and it just didn’t deliver. Menu of $40 is fixed, almost no options and to go into town is $20 each way so you are a bit stuck there. Our room didn’t have hot water and when asked about it they told us it was informed through Booking (not sure - but wouldn’t know because of booking being updated) and anyway who needs hot water with this heat - which didn’t feel like an appropriate answer. The only option of lunch was chicken and rice was charged at $30 when everywhere else is around $10. Not sure the owner was receptive to feedback, main concern was charging money and getting away with it, not very interested or able to do much for the customer.
- Eimhear (10/5): Feel so lucky to have stayed here can't fault anything! Can't wait to return one day - We stayed at natural drake bay hotel in august with family , two children two adults. We stayed in the familial room which was huge and really comfortable. The beds and bedding were fantastic and aircon worked really well ! The views from our room were out of this world! Huge windows , monkeys looking in at sunset which caused much laughter with the children.
From start to finish our stay was exceptional. The service desereve 5 stars . The most beautiful touches, upon return every day from our excursions we were met with a beautiful juice with wild flowers to decorate and a gorgeous smelling cool towel . The whole place just takes your breath away, flowers , animals , views. Spotlessly clean and perfectly tended feeling like you are at one with nature!
Pool was gorgeous,we were lucky enough to see whales swimming aroung in front and like magic a set of binoculars were handed to us to see . The beach is amazing , feel like we could have stayed longer to see and experince more . We had 5 nights .
The staff booked and recommended some trips for us and the price was fair i dont feel the was a surcharge from self booking . We did a horseback tour and a tour to corcovado national park all our guides were fantastic and super knowledgeable.
They also booked our ferry crossing back to Sierpe which cost the same as what we paid direct on the way.
The restaurant was really cute , no menu but different food daily and really nice 3 courses. Breakfast the same, Victor at the bar provided the most friendly silver service for every meal !
The views were out of this world .
Dinners while delicious and presented so well catered for your requirements but were maybe a little too fancy for my children's taste, we ate out once or twice and took a lift and pick up from reception, this was charged but was reasonable given the roads and distance. Breakfast cooked whatever you wanted and lunch was lovely too .
Showers cold but its so warm and the shower gels and shampoos smell lush. nothing

- Gareth (10/5): - The Natural Drake Bay hotel is a really wonderful place to stay. The location is amazing, set on its own looking over the Pacific, about 10 minutes from Drake Bay. Here you feel like you are in your own piece of paradise separate from the rest of the world. The hotel environment is lush and beautiful and the view from the open-air restaurant looking towards the ocean is stunning. Wildlife is all around: coatis, iguanas and numerous birds, including noisy scarlet macaws and green parrots. The hotel has a small number of villas, there is a pool and you can access the beach and a viewing tower. The villas are comfortable and well equipped, with excellent air conditioning and shower, and although not large, have a spacious outside area. The staff at Natural Drake Bay are all exceptionally helpful and make you feel very welcome – many thanks to Maripaz, Victor and the hotel’s driver. The breakfasts and dinner are excellent; the chef cooks delicious, well presented, imaginatively original dishes and Victor makes great cocktails! Dinner includes 3 courses and a fruit drink and is well worth the $40 considering the quality of dishes, setting and service. The hotel provides shuttles to and from Drake Bay as required, including for early morning excursions, at a cost of $20 per trip (not per person as one review suggested). In summary, the Natural Drake Bay hotel is a unique, magical place to stay. The experience of eating a delicious breakfast in the company of a nearby land crab, coati and noisy parrots, while looking out at the beautiful jungle and Pacific ocean will stay long in the memory. Nothing
- Joanne (10/5): Amazing staff, amazing views .. just Amazing all round 😀 - Firstly I cannot say how amazing all of the staff were … friendly, helpful and so hard working…thanks to all of them.
Really stunning property with fabulous sea views surrounded by amazing landscaping and planting. We loved being surrounded by wildlife and being woken up to the beautiful sound of birds and monkeys.
Excellent food and a breakfast bar with a one in a million view.
I chose to have a massage on the deck of our property which was amazing .. I think the masseuse was called Anna .. definitely recommend.
The property also arranged national park tours and guided night walks which were excellent. Add about $10 pp onto the price of these for the transfer from the property to the tour.
We booked a driver in a 4WD take us from MA to the property by road rather than arriving by boat. The road was bumpy but fine if you know to expect that. Nothing … amazing.
- Roxanne (6/5): Was hoping for more as had been really looking forward to staying here. - Comfy bed and good location with nice views. Room was very average for the price, many things not working properly like the toilet door closing / the blinds going up and down.
Restaurant is obscenely over-priced - you can’t choose from any menu, just get what you’re giving, and none of it tasted great, then they said the price was $90 for 2 dinners, both vegan, which were just plates of vegetables. Go elsewhere for food as much cheaper and much tastier too.
- Iain (10/5): Stunning location - A great spot in a beautiful location. The hotel has a great view of the surrounding scenery. We saw so much just sitting at the breakfast bar - including a hummingbird. The beach is pretty much private (apart from macaws!) and stunning. Food was great too as well as the staff. Don’t hesitate to book. Our stay was a great start to our family holiday and one we will always remember.
- Peter (10/5): Bestie - Beautiful hotel with fantastic food.
Lovely staff we felt really pampered.
Hotel has its own beach with suspension walkway. So much wildlife amazing views across bay from restaurant area. Organised a trip to national park accessed by speedboat a night tour and a snorkelling trip.
Seemed expensive when booked but definitely worth it we would stay again one of nicest hotels in Costa Rica.
- Natalia (10/5): Everything was absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to be back - Magical place.
- Karin (8/5): Lovely spot to enjoy birds and beach close to Drakes Bay - This is a good hotel in a lovely spot. The staff are welcoming and attentive. If you have a car it’s a good place for Drakes Bay adventures. Lovely family business. Great bird watching
- Dominique (10/5): Beautiful location and lovely room - Loved the location - beautiful and surrounded by nature. Delicious food and amazing cocktails. Felt slightly ripped off by the owner due to not being told each time they took you to the dock for a trip (10 mins at most and also only way of getting there) they charge you $40 per couple! Even if sharing transport with other people!! This soon adds up!!
- Jan (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, great staff, good cook, swimmingpool with a view on the ocean, room with a balcony in the middle of the jungle. Emerged in birds and wild life. Great daytrips to the ocean. Bumpy road towards drake bay in urgent need for improvement.
Within the resort everything is amazing.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): All so good - Everything. The location was great with great views and wildlife on the door step. The owners and all the staff were so helpful, attentive and accommodating. Whole experience was so good Nothing
- Ollie (10/5): Magnificent! - A truly wonderful place with truly wonderful staff and owners. Every detail and feature was so carefully considered and the team looked after us extremely well.
We even saw a sloth crossing the road!
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, it's absolutely fabulous. Nothing.
- Kathleen (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay that will be a great memory for the rest of our lives. - Every meal was superb. The chef was amazing. Very fresh, healthy, flavorful food presented in a beautiful way.
Victor, the waiter, was wonderful. He made us feel welcome, always happy with a smile and eager to please. He did a great job. The owner & her son were very kind and did everything possible to make us feel at home. We also loved the 2 cats that hung out in the lobby. The grounds were beautiful. The buildings gorgeous. Nice refreshing pool with the most amazing view. We could sit on the pool deck and watch the wildlife. We borrowed binoculars, but there was also a spotting scope available. Transport back and forth to the Drake Bay airport was free, which was very kind. There is just so much to say about our stay ... truly something we will remember forever. We stayed in the family villa, which was one very large room with 6 beds. That was fine, but it was hard to keep the entire room at a good temperature. The AC is at one end, which cooled off nicely, but the far end was still a bit hot. It also took a very long time to get the room cool enough to sleep - I think insulated or blackout shades on the windows would keep the heat out. The only other 'problem' we had was no hot water. Apparently it's heated by solar power and it had been cloudy for quite awhile ... so very cool showers. They offered to open another villa for us to take showers, but that seemed like a lot of work, so we just took cold showers.
- Stephanie (10/5): I rarely cry when I leave a place but this one touched us! The family made us welcome, we ate well, and we had a blast! - We loved the jungle like atmosphere but comfort and luxury of our own cabin. The jungle itself is beautiful and then they have added a lot of smaller trees, plants and flowers. Pool is nice and overlooking the jungle and the ocean. You can hear the waves crashing at any spot on the property - it’s amazing! Your own private beach is a 15 minute walk down a hill. And it’s empty! Lots of animal and bird sightings - sloth, monkeys, macaws, parrots and other beautiful birds. The restaurant was really good, some of the dishes I claimed were the best food I’ve had in years. And it’s a one to two minute walk from the cabin! It’s about a 15 minute drive from town and the tours, which is fine. One of the family members will drive and pick you up for any of your tours! The owner Patricia and daughter Maripaz really made our trip! As well as their family and the restaurant team - Joi, Victor and Douglas. We miss them! We liked everything! The cabin is small though so this isn’t the place if you have a lot of stuff and baggage. You don’t need anything fancy in this area of Costa Rica. They will do your laundry for a small charge.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - Amazing location and grounds! A pretty new place.
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - First of all the location of this Place is what makes it stand out, its elevated over looking Bahi Drake and the sunset views in the evening are breathtaking.
Everything about the hotel is fantastic, Victor was the main man for all things during our stay, from checking us in to making oustanding cocktails by the pool.
Our room was named Trogon and overlooked the bay, the suspended wooden cabin has all you need and situated on the balcony a hammock perfect for relaxing in.
Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, fine dining for dinner and the breakfast overlooking the bay, exceptional to see first thing in the morning also the coffee is made right in front of you as you look out over the ocean!
The pool Area is fanstatic and you can look out over the ocean as you are in the pool, you can also access the beach from tha private entrance just a short walk down and over a hanging bridge. (you can see this from the pool) there is also a tower onsite you can get to which gives an amazing view from upon high (as long as heights dont bother you)
Theres also plenty of wildlife around if you like that sort of thing, ( iguanas by the pool, even some Coattis roaming around )
every evening there were Macaws and Green parrots passing over and even some Toucans in the trees right next to our room!
All in all an exceptional place to stay in the Drake area. we couldn't stay longer!
- Clemencia (10/5): Location was incredible, staff was very sweet and we got a very personalized experience - We stayed 9 days at this hotel and it was amazing. We loved that this was a family owned and run hotel. Location was beautiful, we had a room that looked out to the ocean which was so lovely, and felt like we were in a remote area because we saw so many animals just at the hotel - macaws, a sloth, toucans, monkeys... just outside our room. The staff was so sweet and helpful and were very detail oriented - remembered what we liked for breakfast, how we took our coffee, etc. They were always available to take us into town as we didn't have a car, and were always making sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious and very creative, felt like a fancy restaurant in the middle of the rainforest! These are just very small things and it's just if I were to be nitpicky - only 2 things - the juices they servied albeit delicious had added sugar to them so they were too sweet for me. The other thing was that I'd wish they had an espresso machine, the coffee was too weak and although the pour over process they use is very adorable, it just left the coffee very watery.
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about the Natural Drake Bay Hotel! The hotel is newly renovated and run by the most amazing local family, who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The room, facilities, and food were top-notch. We've been to Costa Rica several times, and this place is, by far, one of our favorites. We saw almost as much wildlife on the hotel grounds as we did during our tour of Corcovado!
- Aliza (10/5): Exceptional - m at a loss for words to describe just how stunning this place was. My cabin, overlooking the sea, was a dream - I could have spent the entire day lounging in the hammock. The room’s decor was exquisite, the details of fresh flowers added a lovely touch. The pool, with its panoramic ocean view and sunset directly in front, was simply breathtaking. The hosts were exceptionally warm and welcoming, and the service was top-notch. The food was outstanding, both in taste and presentation, and the restaurant’s view was truly spectacular. A short walk away, the private beachfront was enchanting at night; I even had the chance to see a sea turtle nesting. Everything about this place was perfect. It truly felt like paradise, and I’m already looking forward to returning.
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional experience, combining comfort, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. - Drake Bay is a remote yet breathtaking destination, and our stay at Natural Drake Bay Hotel made our visit truly unforgettable. We spent four nights here as the final leg of our Costa Rica trip, hoping to find a comfortable place that would enhance our experience of this faraway corner of the world. I’m thrilled to say we couldn’t have chosen a better place.
Natural Drake Bay is a family-run hotel situated in a stunning location, perched perfectly to offer beautiful views of the bay. Both the pool and restaurant offer stunning views of the bay, creating a mesmerizing scene —at one point, we even saw whales jumping from the water! The beach is also just a 3 minute walk.
Patricia, Daniel, and their team, particularly Victor, provide a luxurious experience. Throughout our stay, we felt very well cared for. Everyday, when you arrive, Patricia welcomes you with refreshing, beautifully scented cold towels, which is a wonderful treat after a hot day. Victor then serves the most exquisite fruit juices I’ve ever tasted. Even when activities (Corcovado Park visit, Snorkeling in Caño Island, ….) started at the crack of dawn, they were there to prepare breakfast for you The hotel takes great pride in highlighting local cuisine at dinner, with top quality produce exquisitely cooked.
The rooms offer views of the surroundings, which were full of life (Birds, Iguanas, Monkeys) and relaxing in the hammocks was a spectacle in itself. Toucans would perch in the tree next to the cabin, while showering. The toiletries were of high quality, adding to the overall sense of luxury.
In summary, Natural Drake Bay Hotel provided us with an exceptional experience, combining comfort, natural beauty, and warm hospitality.
- Debashis (9/5): Fantastic hotel, but you must fly in to Drake Bay - Location was fantastic. Nature lover's paradise. Service was beyond excellent. Presentation of every meal was phenomenal. Food and drinks were excellent and management made every effort to make our stay as comfortable, enjoyable and memorable as possible. Watched dozens of red Macaws, green parrots, and other birds. Heard howler monkeys though couldn't see one. Great view of Drake Bay and and Cano Island (in the distance), and we were lucky to watch a very nice sunset across the bay. Swimming pool was lovely. Roads are beyond terrible -- unpaved, and more importantly not maintained. Should not try to reach by road if you don't have a 4X4. Hotel should clearly mention the exceptionally bad state of the roads on their website and strongly recommend that guests fly in to Drake Bay airport, which is very close by, so that the hotel staff can pick them up and drop them off in a 4X4.
Hotel needs to add a spa service. Given the urge to relax when you reach there, good massage and other spa services would go a long way.
