Guest Reviews
- Moad (1/5): - Dear Booking.com Team,
I would like to report a very unpleasant and stressful experience I had with a host during my recent stay.
On the first day I arrived, I went out to buy groceries, leaving my parents at the apartment. When I returned, they told me that the host had come knocking on the door asking for a “tourist fee” that was **double the normal amount**. The problem is that I am a **resident**, and the reservation was made **under my name**, so I should not have been asked for such a fee in the first place.
I found this behavior very inappropriate, especially because it made my parents feel unsafe. Later that afternoon, the host kept insisting that I pay him the money. When I explained that it was illegal to ask for this fee and that the amount was inflated*, he responded rudely and told me to “get my parents’ things and find another place to stay.” This happened **in the middle of the night**, and my parents were frightened. We felt forced to pay him because otherwise, we would have had to spend the night on the streets with our luggage.
I have been booking apartments through Booking.com for a long time, and I have never experienced anything like this. Normally, hosts communicate instructions through the Booking.com app, and payments are handled there as well. However, this host insisted on being paid in cash or via Bizum. He even stood outside the house, watching us with a threatening expression, which made my parents feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.
Imagine how they felt alone during the day while I was at work, too afraid to even leave the apartment in case the host did something to their belongings. This experience completely ruined their stay in Barcelona. Instead of enjoying their trip, they spent the entire time worrying about what the host might do next.
I sincerely ask Booking.com to investigate this host and take appropriate action. No guest should ever feel threatened or unsafe during their stay.
