Guest Reviews
- Heng (10/5): Glad we made the trip, it's such a nice and solid memory. - I'm travelling with my family including the 5yo. The unit is equipped with everything we need, and in a style. Lovely backyard and the feeling of getting into home thru a lane just next to the busiest street of Bendigo is just like magic, it's not something we'd have access to nowadays. I've been Bendigo 4 times and this time at la rouge really leaves a solid memory, I mean think about it, out the door thru a 10m or so lane, on the right it's the center of Bendigo with pubs and restaurants, on the left are the churches, the front street itself on the other hand is just quite and peaceful, people walking by and we can even linger around the street, there's not much traffic at all, that's like the old good days. 10 of 10, I'm only hoping we could stay for a few more days. Nothing, great experience, seeing my son enjoying it brings me to the time when I was young, street was the same quiet and slow back then.
- Caroline (10/5): Couldn't fault a thing - wonderful - Gorgeous cottage, with everything you could need. Loved the addition of nice toiletries and staple pantry items. The muffins were a lovely touch. The photos on the website don't do it justice. Will definately stay again
- Marcella (10/5): Comfortable, cute and great location - The extra mile that the host went to. There was milk, juice, fruit and other staples that were amazing especially with 2 little kids.
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Tim (9/5): Great spot, we’re repeat visitors and will be back again! - Lock on backyard needs replacement (didn’t lock)

- Katie (10/5): Great - I couldn't work the lock but blame my eye sight, and they came opened it for me, lovely people, great hosts
- James (9/5): A beautiful place. Thank you. - Breakfast muffins were excellent thank you.
- Geoff (9/5): -
- Lenore (9/5): Fabulous location, convenient, cosy cottage - The cottage had amble space for a couple and space if children or an extra person was staying. The location was walking distance to the centre of town which made it very easy for us to get around.
We loved the second hand bookstore just around the corner from us!! 📚📚
The cottage had everything we needed to be comfortable. The little courtyard was nice to sit outside and enjoy.
The driveway was thin to enter property but you get used to it very quickly. The convenient location made it easy to rarely have to move our car. Personally for us, the mattress was a little too hard but nothing to really complain about (personal preference really).
- Rachel (10/5): Wont stay anywhere else in M - Fabulous location, quaint and clean. Little extras were lovely, muffins, yoghurt, muesli etc.
- Peter (10/5): -
- Leoniejclark (10/5): A beautiful French miners cottage with a fantastic location with parking. - The cottage was absolutely beautiful. Each corner of the cottage had been cleverly decorated. It contained everything from washing machine/dryer, coffee machine, beautiful linen and towels right down to the very thoughtful table with brochures of Bendigo sites and the home made chocolate muffines, fresh milk and youghurt. The courtyard was a beautiful surprise space and the French shutters were delightful.
- Jennille & John (10/5): Every thing was wonderful - Very quiet and peaceful place to stay Very nice old fashioned home done to perfection
- Marina (10/5): -
- Trickey family (10/5): - It was a cosy little place. Perfect for us with our little family.
- Susan (10/5): Cosy little cottage right in the heart of the city. - The location was perfect, right in the centre of town, within walking distance of everything. We didn't drive after we arrived until we left. The beds were very comfortable, the place was cosy. We wer eprovided with breakfast items, delicious pastries, some snacks and juice, all unexpected and lovely additional touch.
- Angelo (10/5): Exquisite - The exceptional flow of the decor .
- White (10/5): The place was also very comfortable, making it easy to relax and settle in straight away. - The little added extras made a big difference. After a long drive and arriving late, it was such a lovely surprise to find food and drink items in the kitchen. They kept us going until we could get to the supermarket the next day. Nothing. We were very happy with our stay. We enjoyed everything about our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.
- Cate (10/5): -

- Power (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (10/5): Comfy, clean and good location. - The extras provided - biscuits, milk, juice, cereal were all very good. Driveway is a little tight, but if you follow the instructions there is no problem. I had a Volkswagen Jetta.

Great location, walking distance to Bendigo Art Gallery.

- Margaret (10/5): Our favorite place to stay in Bendigo. - We loved our stay! Especially since it was only a 5-minute walk to the Bendigo Art Gallery. It was very comfortable and all the little touches including some treats were a bonus. Our little dog enjoyed her stay as well. It was nice to have Netflix as we were there for a relaxing break as well. Joanne was very responsive when we had questions.
We are hosts as well. So, appreciate all the effort that had gone into making the cottage a special place. Nothing!
- Dora (9/5): Great location, comfortable & well equipped - we will be back - lovely, stylish cozy home & generous provisions left for us - thank you the driveway was a bit tricky but we got use to it
- Usha (10/5): A beautiful cottage stay that feels like home - We had a comfortable stay in a lovely cottage located in a quiet part of the CBD. All amenities were provided, the premises were very well-maintained, and we had everything we needed. Most places we needed to visit were within a short walking distance. Rosalind Park, the CBD tram stop, the Bendigo art gallery are only about 5 minutes worth of walking away. All good, nothing to dislike
- Rachel (10/5): Perfect getaway for a couple - Clean warm and welcoming
Great location and lots of person touch details
- Gail (9/5): Delightful few days in gorgeous cottage, felt very welcoming and cosy - Beautiful old world cottage tastefully decorated, added extras everywhere Nothing
- Sandra (9/5): Excellent location and great value for money. - Excellent location. Although we didn't spend much time in the cottage, it was perfect for our needs. We were attending a booking binding workshop which was only a short walk away. Also, close to the arts precinct and great value.
- Clare (10/5): A gorgeous little cottage, central location. - Location was central. Walk to shops, gallery, parks, restaurants etc.
such a gorgeous cottage. Attention to detail was outstanding! Milk, coffee, wine, muffins and a variety of cereals were provided. Beautiful courtyard to sit and relax. Would highly recommend!
- Janet (9/5): Gorgeous, central cottage offering a welcoming and comfortable stay. - Gorgeous, comfortable cottage, with lots of wonderful additions to make for a homely and welcoming stay. The car parking is the only challenging aspect: hard to get in and out if other cars have parked in the turning area.
- Marcelle (9/5): Superb -
- Lewis (10/5): Really fantastic historic place to stay in Bendigo. Great hospitality -
- Rosalind (9/5): Very comfortable in a great location - Beautifully decorated with very thoughtful added extras. There were fresh organic milk, juice, bagels and donuts waiting for us. An extra bed was made up and there were two televisions. The cottage is centrally located within walking distance of the art gallery, park, restaurants and shops. It was a little dark and the bathroom was located through the kitchen.
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Lovely, compact unit. Historic style cottage with comfortable furniture. Beautifully decorated.
Very close to town centre and walking distance to restaurants and bars. Croissant and bagels in the pantry were a lovely touch.
Would recommend to anyone. Nothing to dislike.

- Peter (9/5): A slice of Europe in Bendigo. Thank you. - We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at La Rouge Cottage. It is wonderful accommodation for a couple looking to spend time in Bendigo. It is really conveniently located within short walking distance of the Art Gallery, Rosalind Park, restaurants and the shopping district at the centre of town. The cottage is located down an alley and is, surprisingly, very quiet and easy to get to. The cottage itself consists of a compact, but well-equipped kitchen, a smallish, but fully serviceable shower and toilet bathroom, a good size dining room with couches and a TV, a stylish bedroom with a comfortable queen size bed, and a private courtyard with outdoor furniture and a large garden umbrella. It is more than big enough to spend some time comfortably enjoying Bendigo and environs. The cottage is also carefully decorated throughout to evoke the feeling of being in Europe somewhere. We both commented on that. The kitchen is actually well stock with milk, yoghurt, mineral water, butter, bread, cereals, tea/coffee etc. so there is no need to bring breakfast provisions if you are staying for a couple of days. There were nice little touches everywhere that lifted this accommodation above the ordinary. There is also a single car parking space set aside at the end of the lane way, right in the centre of town. Very welcome. Overall, Judy and I had a wonderful trip and would have no hesitation staying at La Rouge again next time we are in the area. Thank you. The lane way to the cottage/parking spot is a bit narrow but we received careful instructions and a photo to guide us, so we had no difficulty. Normal cars and mid sized SUVs should get up the lane way if you just take it slowly and carefully. Large 4WDs might have to be extra careful, though.
- Rosemarie (9/5): Great place to stay with nice little extras - It was great, there were some lovely extras a packet of chip, marshmallows for hot chocolate, nice coffee and teas yoghurt etc my son and I had our Staffy Angus with us and he was very happy in a small however shaded courtyard. It was quite even though we were near the Main Street. The only thing bad was that someone parked in the no parking / turning park which made it hard if you needed to turn around I have a great turning circular in my car thankfully however it would have been better if they were not there. I would stay again
- Coughlan (10/5): Excellent -
- Jodie (10/5): Little gem 💎 ✨️ - La Rouge Cottage is ideal . We are renovating and at times a quiet clean space to yourself is needed . Tucked away one block from the CBD so everything in walking distance. Joanne who I deal with is always accommodating . There is even yummy bread and home made jam for breakfast. Oh and I'm allowed to bring my border collie !
- Jennifer (9/5): Delightful cottage in the heart of Bendigo - What a delightful cottage situated in the centre of town close to art gallery, restaurants and shopping. It was so cute and had everything you would need for a short or long stay. The kitchen was very well equipped, so nice to have oil, pepper and salt provided. It even has a washer dryer. The description was misleading to me it said it had a shared kitchen but I want to reassure you you’re not sharing a kitchen with anyone else, it’s all yours. All the extras like bread jam butter yogurt even a cake make this a stand out. The courtyard was a leafy paradise, Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. As every one has commented the driveway is a little tight but we managed and we’re in a jeep grand Cherokee so pretty wide car.
- Andrew (10/5): Outstanding historic cottage in the centre of Bendigo - Cosy cottage in central Bendigo. Numerous restaurants within walking distance.
Bread, condiments, juice and other pantry items were provided and greatly appreciated.
Was very comfortable and well fitted out with quality fittings.
Host, Joanne was very helpful, friendly and responsive.
Plenty of games for the kids, books and other puzzles.
Highly recommended
- Elizabeth (7/5): Note if driving. Lane leading to car parking is narrow. - Location was good. Very central. Relatively close to shops. Very thoughtful host who provided even ice cream! Cottage is quite old. Interior needs to be refurbished. Extra bed that was set up was unstable and so uncomfortable to sleep in.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Felicity (10/5): Perfect - Great location, beautiful and clean.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Talys (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tania (10/5): Beautiful Bendigo Bijou - We loved EVERYTHING about the La Rouge Cottage/our accommodation. We wish we had booked for longer!
The location was perfect - in the centre of town but in a quiet, private residential street. It was also only a five-minute drive to where we needed to go (The Arena). The decor and attention to detail was fabulous - unmatched! Français & fantastique. We loved the courtyard and being able to eat outdoors. There was so much character and it was cosy, comfortable, calming & spotlessly clean. It was also extremely well-appointed. We had everything on hand and had been left some amazing treats and supplies! Wonderful communication with the host/manager, Joanne. Perfection.
Thank you, Merci, Go raibh maith agat! N/A

- Sheena (10/5): We had a wonderful stay at this lovely home, in an ideal location to see the sights of Bendigo. - The property was elegantly furnished and warm, creating a chic and cosy atmosphere. Lisa is a fantastic host and we greatly appreciated her comprehensive instructions for parking and check in. She generously supplied a range of lovely provisions for breakfast, we particularly enjoyed the artisan bread and lemon curd! The cottage is within a comfortable walking distance of restaurants, parks and the wonderful Bendigo Art Gallery and Cultural Centre. We would not hesitate to return to this lovely property and would highly recommend it to others.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (9/5): Just about perfect - Location, comfortable homely furniture, food provided was way above what is usually expected Internet is dreadfully slow, borderline useless. Broken grate behind car park is an accident waiting to happen
- Beaufort46 (10/5): Fantastic property. A most enjoyable break away for a couple of days. - Location was very close to the Bendigo CBD, so very easy to get around. Breakfast supplies were wonderful. Full of pleasant surprises. An amazing property. Absolutely nothing not to like. Would go back anytime we could book. Would highly recommend.
- Lyndall (10/5): We will be back and we will recommend! - We loved every bit of this little cottage - its location, little extras and decor were exceptional.
Thank you
- Stephen (9/5): Perfect location in Bendigo in a spacious, clean cottage. - The cottage was in the perfect location, after we arrived we did not need the car until we left. Everything was as advertised. The loaf of bread and jams left by the host were superb! The cottage was clean and spacious. We were also surprised at the quality of the Thai restaurant a few short steps from the cottage. No need to hunt for dinner. The driveway is narrow, which we knew. But arriving after dark made it extra challenging. Nothing the host can do about this. They have installed lights that are motion activated but it is still difficult after dark to line the car up for the drive in. They also left lights on inside the cottage which was very nice.
- Jodie (10/5): Exceptional - Joanne was very helpful. The cottage was stocked with food . Amazing value
- Meg (8/5): We would love to stay again especially during the Chamber Music Festival. - Very comfortable well located cottage Nothing really.
- Abbie (10/5): The most comfortable and welcoming 10 days in a cottages you never want to leave. - The location of this gorgeous property is just exceptional. So close to some of Bendigo's best restaurants.
The cottage is decorated beautifully, is clean, comfortable and so so cute. All the extra touches are what makes this property so welcoming! Nothing...
- Mark (8/5): Central bendigo - Very central location and excellent facilities. There were lots of terrific touches. The driveway was very tight.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully presented with everything you needed. Very comfortable
- Quin (9/5): Superb -
- Dolores (10/5): The perfect long weekend - It was our first time in Bendigo, made easier because of the direct flights Sydney to Bendigo. We came to see the beautiful French exhibition from Paris. Bendigo had some lovely French extras on because of the exhibition. We went to an afternoon of French music at Langley Estate, had a French designed lunch at one of the restaurants, had an evening on a ‘groove tram’ with bar and entertainment. The weekend farmers market a bonus. Contact with the owner was quick and easy, and always helpful. Flight times in and out of Bendigo were awkward.
- David (10/5): Perfect in all ways for our wedding anniversary plus a few more days. - The beautifully appointed accommodations were within walking distance to all shops historical cultural and tourist spots. There was absolutely no street noise because the cottage was at the rear of the street facing adjacent accommodation.
Our hosts were readily available to assist us and provided breakfast and a complimentary bottle of wine. We loved the homely feel so much that we catered for all our dinners during our stay, even though restaurants were within walking distance. Loved the backyard terrace and the tourist information provided. The French decor was in theme with the Paris exhibition showing at the Bendigo Art Gallery. We loved it all.
- Ktcl62 (10/5): La Royge Cottage - Clean, cosy and comfortable. Everything had been thought of, including a few special touches to make you feel special. Highly recommend Nothing
- Greg (10/5): I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this beautiful cottage! - The cottage was full of character and was beautifully decorated. It was also exceptionally clean and had all modern amenities. The breakfast supplies and extra treats provided were delicious! I highly recommend this property for it's convenient location and charm. I would return in a heartbeat! There was nothing amiss. It was perfect!
- Kezi (9/5): Superb - Amazing location - close to the gallery and great restaurants and bars. Cottage was beautifully styled, immaculately clean and warm. Nothing
- Kim (8/5): Pleasant stay in the heart of Bendigo. - Quiet neighborhood, walking distance to shops and restaurants, botanic gardens, art gallery. Very convenient
Hostess was very generous providing food and drinks: doughnuts, hot-cross buns, muffins, fruits and supplies in the fridge for breakfast. Well-maintained and clean property with all the amenities, such as washing machine, kitchen and cooking appliances, if needed. Lounge and dining areas to relax. Comfortable courtyard to relax on a balmy day. Narrow driveway (not a complaint, simply something to be aware of). Enter by the kitchen as this is less "dangerous" for those with mobility issues.
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Deb (10/5): Exceptional - The attention to detail was amazing, all the little touches.
- Lorraine (8/5): Very good -
- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Ronel (10/5): Exceptional - Cleanliness
Location
Exceptional attention to detail
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Location brilliant, very quiet but central to everything. The cottage was gorgeous, perfect historical features but extremely comfortable and very well appointed. Lovely courtyard, very private. The hosts had considered every need, plus some additional little luxuries like local jam, butter, pastries... Nothing!
- Shannon (9/5): We loved everything about our stay - thank you for providing such a beautiful place with such responsive management. - It is beautifully furnished with everything you can possibly need. Extremely comfortable, we felt at home immediately. The outdoor area was particularly nice to have as a breakfast retreat. Thank you also for the extra touches such as chocolates and donuts!
- Anonymous (10/5): We loved this place and will definitely be back!! - Quaint little cottage, attention to detail was impeccable. Little treats and surprises around every corner. Was a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. Easy location for walking everywhere into town. There is literally nothing not to like about this property!
- Sean (9/5): Ver convenient, quiet, comfortable accomodation. - Location, location and having a lounge bed in the lounge room.
- Lynda (10/5): Perfect location and lovely cottage. - Lovely cottage with great care to make guest comfortable. Great location in central Bendigo.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalie (10/5): La Rouge: tres chic! - There were thoughtful inclusions, such as a handwritten welcome note, tasty bread etc and brochures for nearby attractions. The courtyard was lovely and comfortable. La Rouge was a quiet, cosy, safe base with walking distance to many amenities.
- Effie (8/5): Very good -
- Lowrie (10/5): Exceptional - It amazing Nothing
- Christine (10/5): Fantabulous!! - Everything! Loved the treats upon arrival. Nothing!
- Min (10/5): wonderful family trip. - clean and nice little place to stay. very happy about the location. the narrow driveway.
- Elizabeth (9/5): We are planning to return next year. - The little cottage is wonderfully sweet - very atmospheric with a definite French feel. The kitchen is small, but I was so surprised to see how well it was stocked - a wide assortment of dishes, glassware, cookware and so on. The cottage is set back a bit from the road and was very quiet, private. Everything immaculately clean.
The host left an assortment of "extras" - things you just don't expect - which made us feel so welcome and comfortable (a bag of little treats and jams/butter, etc. in the fridge - plus some fresh pastries - truly a delightful surprise.) These are things we don't expect to find at a holiday rental - felt a lot more like "welcome" goodies left by a good friend.
The knockout for us is the little courtyard with an entrance from the bedroom. VERY comfortable and beautifully set up with table, chairs and lighting. We had planned to eat at local restaurants, but ended up just getting provisions from the local Coles (walking distance) and sitting in the courtyard with our dinner enjoying the ambiance - which included watching the fruit bats from a nearby park flying over once the sun went down - magic!
The owner/hosts communications with us were very helpful and the instructions and tips were greatly appreciated. They clearly care about their guests having a happy, stress-free and relaxing visit. Questions sent to them via the booking.com website were VERY quickly replied to. The couches in the living room were OK, but there wasn't a truly comfortable chair to sit in while reading or crocheting (I prefer a chair with arms on it). The wicker chair looked like a good option, but I found it quite uncomfortable and found the wicker was rough and snagging my clothes. It was pretty, however and certainly matched the theme of the decorating.
- Anonymous (9/5): It was a wonderful charming place to stay -
- Amy (10/5): Charming little cottage in great location. - Absolutely charming little cottage, arriving to fairy lights in the courtyard and the sound of choir practice drifiting from a nearby church was utterly delightful. Very comfortable with fluffiest bath towels and gorgeous soft bed. Easy location to get to everything and a very pleasant stay overall. Great directions to find and use the key, communication overall very good.
- Daniel (10/5): Perfect little set-up - Cute, lovely, secure and comfortable set up.
Great location, close to everything.
Beautiful set up, thank you
- Andrea (10/5): Perfect spot to enjoy a Bendigo visit - The location is ideal to enjoy Bendigo for a short stay with everything you might need nearby: coffee, restaurants, parklands and historic buildings. The Art Gallery is a 4-5 minutes walk. The cottage has charm and is very well equipped. Everything is spotless.
- Nick (10/5): Top central Bendigo stay - Excellent location, facilities are great, the extras laid on made us feel at home, would stay again. Couch not as comfortable as home, but personal taste comment
