Guest Reviews
- ANTONELLA (7/5): Struttura temporaneamente chiusa - La struttura era temporaneamente chiusa. Grazie Carol
- Olivia (6/5): - Is currently not open- looks beautiful but got told a couple days before we arrived that they were currently shut. We stayed somewhere else. Nice messages but would have liked being told earlier.
- Silvia (10/5): -
- Alwin Jackson (1/5): - Nothing Everything
- Cloé (7/5): -
- Mariusz (10/5): It was excellent! - Brand new hotel. Close to the park. Nothing.
- Mark (9/5): The ideal option to explore Zhangjiajie national park - We really enjoyed our stay here and wouldn’t consider any other option to visit Zhangjiajie national park. It is an incredible location in the middle of the national park giving time and freedom to explore. The hosts are very attentive. They know the park inside-out and propose tailor-made circuits depending on weather (in particular localised cloud cover) and preferences with real-time updates ! They have a great cook and food is absolutely delicious. The place is an operating tea plantation and has tons of charm. Accommodation is comfortable. As is often the case in China, the mattresses are very firm, but we were kindly provided with an additional softer mattress. Because it is quite isolated we found that guests tend to chat together in the evening which we really enjoyed.
- Monika (10/5): - Everything. The place was wonderful. The hike to the top of tge mountain to see the sunset was a wonderful bonus. And the tea was delicious. Alex is an excelent host
- Tham (6/5): - Alex, the manager was very helpful. The toilet, the water recedes slowly, so it flooded a bit.
- laura (10/5): Wunderbar entschleunigend! Nichts :)
- Phil (10/5): The best way to visit Zhangjiajie park for the adventurous traveller - There are a few different ways to visit the Zhangjiajie area if you are not a local. You can get a package with a guide or you can book individual tours that use a guide. Going on your own can be a challenge if you speak little or no Chinese. And it turns out the ways to visit the area are more complex than you expected despite doing a lot of research. So Alex was invaluable in getting the best experience from inside the park. Also Carol helped us a lot via WeChat before our arrival. The meals can be ordered at any time from reception and served in the resaurant from early morning to late at night. I hated to give the hotel less than 5 star rating in comfort and facilities but you have to be honest as it is not a luxury hotel as compared to other hotels we stayed in the area. You know about that when you book it if you read the reviews. That is made up for many times over by the experience and convenience of staying inside the park the whole time. I'm so glad we didn't book a different hotel.
- Anette (10/5): Incredible stay at YOLO - Had an extremely nice time in Zhangjiajie national park, and that was also due to staying in YOLO resort! I was lucky and did not have to stay in line even in the park, Alex was very helpful planning my routes in the park. The resort is also very nice and have an chill vibe - «hytte - vibe» as we call it in Norwegian! Also very good food, if you are a nature lover - you will love this place! PS; I don’t think you can watch the sunset over the mountains in the national park elsewhere..
- Christopher John (7/5): Avoid cold season there - I think the view is good if the weather was nice. Location far not good if your staying 1 day. Its our fault anyway. But the place is nice quiet and surrounded by nature. Pour AC is turning off by itself. Our room is very cold we cannot call someone because it night time. Manage to control it but keep turning off. Bathroom not really clean, door must be seal because cold air keeps entering the room.
- Maureen (10/5): Best experiences of my entire trip to China - The location is simply perfect:it is only one hotel which insidethe Zhangjiajie National Forest Park . Waking up surrounded by mountains.Andthe real star of this place is Alex and Carol.incredibly kind, super helpful, and always ready to assist with anything! He organized our park tickets for us, explained the best routes, gave priceless tips, and replied to every message in no time.If you are looking for an authentic spot, far from the tourist crowds, immersed in nature, with warm and human service...this is agood place
- Johnnie (10/5): Honestly I couldn’t recommend the yolo resort and Alex/Carol enough - -the location was perfect: it’s the only one hotel in the national park,no need line up.-everything is taken care of and considered: they arrange passes for the national park at no extra cost, suggest routes and annotate maps for you-the food is great and the rooms are clean! Sunset is amazing!
- Veronica (10/5): BEST YOLO SUNSET, WORTHING EVERTHING - We had the best recommendations we had in China. The location is very relaxing and we enjoyed it so much. We are able to get in the park sooner than staying outside. You can also stay longer to catch the last lights of the day (always between the park schedule). The staff was very helpfull, They also help booking activitiesand guide us how to visit the park. Thank a lot.
- Desiree (10/5): Amazing for nationalpark - Best locationisstay insidethe park, to avoid crowds and to take the itineraries the staff (alex) suggested. Kind and lovely staff. Don’t even hesitate to come! Thank you guys! Also sunset was fantastic
- Allison (10/5): - Super nice staff, they support us before arrival already and made the stay a difference proving us super amazing tips on the park route. They also helped us buy tickets and arrange transportation before arrival. Clean room and comfortable beds, also the sunsetiso amazing. We should have stayed longer
- TEIK YEN (9/5): Excellent and amazing - Location, location, location. Alex the boss was very helpful to provide the information about going around the national park to avoid the crowds and optimize our stay there None
- Peter (10/5): - Staying within the park allowed us an early start to exploring the park.
Alex, the manager, gave us expert advice and directions to how best to navigate through the park. Nothing. We liked it all
- Jordi (5/5): - Situacio No accepten cancelaccion sota cap concepte. Tampoc per condicions climatologiques
- lim (6/5): - Serenity Cleanliness need improvement
- Doreen (8/5): -
- Monika (10/5): - The aeria is beautiful, you can climb to the top of the mountain and the view is stuning. Alex is very friendly and heplfull. We had a very nice stay. Bathrooms could be improved.
- Sum Ho (10/5): Not luxurious but perfect in every way. - Its location enables you to view the attractions in the opposite order of the tour groups enabling you to skip most crowds. The manager Alex is informative and friendly. The food tastes great and has a ‘home cooked meal’ vibe which you can really taste the love. Smiles all the time. Feels like home. They treat guests like family. Family cat Mimi is also extremely vocal for cheek rubs. Nothing to complain about . It’s not luxurious but all the facilities work and sufficient.
- Marina (8/5): -
- Rual (5/5): Avoid this tourist trap, not worth it. Overpriced and staff only interested in money. Run down place - The room is run down, with dirt and moist on the walls. The bathroom feels dirty. Windows don't close properly. Staff is just there to get your money. Pictures give a false impression. Largely overpriced with meals not included and expensive. Plenty of better value options
- Evan (8/5): -
- Gina Bay-ag (3/5): The tea plantation is beautiful. - Alex is really kind and friendly, food is good The bedroom and the bathroom is not clean.
- Florence (8/5): -
- sara (9/5): would 100% stay here again. - We stayed here to get quick access into the park to beat the crowds and that we did. Alex the host was great along with his cat meme. The food on site was good and the view was amazing. It was also fun meeting all the travelers staying at the hotel. This place is very much like a travelers hostel. The shower was a little rough. Definitely shower with your own personal shoes on.
- Egor (10/5): -
- Lucia Maria (4/5): -
- Mikolaj (3/5): Prepare for sleeping in the wild - People working there are just fantastic and very helpful, so you can always ask for advice. And location is special so you don't need to waste time for traveling and explore the National Park more intensly. And sunset spot is tremendous! I was there early November and it was freezing cold inside the room all the time. The room wasnt clean at all, not even mentioning the bathroom. You had to wait few minutes for hot water in the shower and after the shower the whole bathroom was sinking. And got a spider in my bed (at least I spotted only one). Also price is just too high for the comfort you get
- Székely (8/5): Good but not what we originally wanted - Location was great, right next to the entrance to the National Park - we were given another hotel 3 weeks before arrival. We were originally going to stay in Yolo Resort within the national park itself but the hotel owner decided to close the place down to renovate over the shoulder season. The hotel staff were very helpful, though.
- Natalia (10/5): - It is a wonderful spot to enoy the whole location. very cozy family hotel, wonderful personnel, amazing views, very delicious local food, cooked from scratch right away. It was a very plesant stay! thank you!
- Eileen (6/5): Overall-great experience due to Alex and location! Definitely bare bones and rustic hotel. - Alex was incredible and helped us plan an absolutely amazing few days in the park so that we could see absolutely everything we wanted to see! He also helped us switch plans last minute in order to spend a day at Tienman Mountain which included spending out last night at their sister hotel in Zhangjiajie which was lovely. Great location for exploring the park since it is the only accommodation within the park itself. However, that meant we couldn't leave after park closing hours or we would not be able to get back in, which I did not realize before our arrival. Food was basic but delicious. Tea from the plantation available at all times. Stay was good overall, but a bit too rustic for my mother. Had some large bugs in the room (had to get rid of a few spiders and flying beetles) on our first day-assuming they leave the doors open when cleaning between guests and they get in that way. Have to pay for potable water, beds hard, and shower temperature luke warm.
- Mary Ellen (8/5): A wonderful staff, lodge and location. - Located inside the national park, the mini buses are an easy stroll from the lodge. Alex did a wonderful job of outlining three days of hiking/strolling through the park. Alex is a wealth of information and also helped us book our travel in and out of the park via air and train. N/A
- Julia (8/5): -
- Heidi (9/5): Worth it to avoid the crowds!! - I have a full vlog on everything we went through with this hotel and going into the park on YouTube
https://youtu.be/EVFJIVwaAms?si=xlo8F88yairfAreX
This hotel allows you to wake up inside the park so you can have the park all to yourself during the first hour or so.
We also tried coming back in the park another day from staying in a hotel outside and it was a lot of shoving and pushing by the entrance gates!
We ate all our meals here once the park closes and their menu options are very adequate!
Alex’s English is great you can ask him anything! He planned our route for us based on weather and how many days we are visiting
The sunset view is 15 mins walk from the hotel and other crowds from the park won’t know how to get there You can’t expect luxury from this hotel, it is more like a home stay, we brought with us disposable bedsheets and towels, and it’s definately worth the price you pay, but the benefits of the hotel make it worth it!
- Ashwin Krishnan (10/5): - Location inside the park and Alex, the manager who speaks fluent English and help plan the itinerary for you.
- Jeremy (10/5): Superb - Fantastic location - simply the optimal way to visit Zhangjiajie as a tourist (rather than wulingyan).
Trust in the staff to curate a perfect itinerary for you once there.
- Rebecca (8/5): Good value for price paid - Great location to see the park. Staff super informative and assisted with lots of accommodations. Okay for the price, typical backpackers lodging. Needed lots of cleaning and repairs in the room. There should be one bill for items and food purchases instead of making multiple transactions,
- KA YEE (10/5): - Perfect location inside the park and so can start the day early without queues. Sunset spot.
- Bryan (9/5): - Excellent location inside the park. And they arranged for my park pass. The bed was very hard.
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Salvador (8/5): -
- Stephanie (7/5): - Alex and the rest of the staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating! There's no real advantage to the location being inside the park. You have to wait for the park shuttle buses and its not an official stop so you end up having to wait for an empty one that is being sent after multiple bus drivers see you and other yolo visitors. The wait can be pretty long to be honest. Yolo kind of needs a drop off service really
The room has a shower without a shower curtain and the whole bathroom floor gets wet after a shower. Not ideal after a day if rain in the park
- Hughes (8/5): Great location, helpful staff; expensive and basic facilities - Location is unbeatable. Staff were really helpful in booking tickets and advising us on our itinerary for the park It comes with the territory, but it was a bit expensive. Given the expense, it was very basic
- anders (8/5): - Great location inside the National park. Before arrival they had booked tickets for us. We only needed to identify ourselves by means of passports at the entrence (later on at cablecars and elevator by face recognition). Alex (our host) was very helpful and took very good Care of us. The weather was not the best, but the rain and fog changed periodically to better visibility and the views became truly unforgettable The food was not unforgettable
- Jeroen (8/5): Awesome location and great staff - The hotelmanager Alex is a lovely guy who can tell you a lot about the park and gives you some very good options how to travel efficient through the park which is especially useful to avoid the big crowds and queus as much as possible. The shower was had some mold and didn't feel very clean. This could definitely be improved. The room itself was clean though.
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Alex was a superb host and went above and beyond to ensure we had a plan for each day.
The location was excellent and meant we could avoid all the queues.
Beds were extremely comfy and rooms nice to relax in after a big day out.
Good communal areas for playing games and having a beer. It would be good to have bedroom bins emptied and a free bottle of water each day, as is the custom in all other Chinese hotels and hostels.
Food was good but a bit on the pricy side. We took a load of food with us to avoid the mountain prices.
- Toni (9/5): -
- Jivata (7/5): Recommended for true hikers who don’t mind fewer comforts, but realize that the shuttles don’t start until the park open - Unique experience - staying on a tea plantation within the scenic area. Also, hotel manager was quick to take action when an issue arose. He also provides a map and takes time to explain the ideal route to explore the park. He speaks fluent English so it is very much appreciated for planning out your time in a huge park. Additionally, they reach out to you early to help you with booking tickets (without additional charge). Highly recommended for true hikers who really want to take advantage of the park and want to immerse themselves in nature at the expense of comfort. We are not hikers so in retrospect, we would rather have stayed in town for a more comfortable and affordable stay and spent one day exploring the park. One of the beds was extremely uncomfortable - felt like a wooden plank covered with a light comforter and the other bed you could feel the springs. Toilet was wobbly and shower water never got warm enough - and it was quite chilly and rainy in the park during our stay. Additionally, it can be hard to get a shuttle to stop for pick up by the hotel because the shuttles are usually filled up at the starting location. Also note that shuttles don’t run until the park opens and the crowds at ZJJ are no joke, even on weekdays. You do have an advantage of not dealing with the cableway lines in the morning on your main day of exploration and traveling in the opposite direction of most tourists but you should no doubt expect to be in lines throughout the day.
- Judit (10/5): Would choose this hotel again next time. :) - Location, staff, services - The location is superb, and allows you to avoid crowds and queues at the entrance and during your stay. Alex is really helpful and available all the time, speaks really good english, and his recommendations for routes are golden and easy to follow. We were really worried about crowds (at cable car and bus stations) in the park, because you see a lot of videos online about people complaining. But Alex planned our routes each day, and we rarely had to queue longer than 2-5 minutes.
To get to the hotel upon arrival, I really recommend you to take the car transfer service, especially if you have more than just a backpack. Yes, it's not cheap compared to other transfers in China, but it's not easy to reach the hotel if you don't know how the park works. It simply saves you a lot of time and energy.
About food: the park s full of food stalls. For breakfast or dinner, you have some options in the hotel (a lady will cook), which is the most comfortable. Another option is the food stalls at the nearest bus transfer point, which is a 10 min bus ride away (although you need to keep in mind the last bus, so this option works only till the afternoon). The hotel has water and some other drinks (limited selection) available all the time for a fair price.
And yes, the hotel has it's own private sunset spot - this requires a little bit of hiking, but you will get some really nice views if the skies above allow it ;) Even though I will write something here, I am still giving this hotel max 10 points. I put the bathroom into the "didn't like it" part, BUT I only want future guests to understand a very important thing about this hotel, to avoid bad reviews or getting disappointed: you need to have realistic expectations when you stay here. This is a basic accommodation, you will be on the top of the mountain, in an older building. This means older, and sometimes smelly bathrooms, sometimes clogged toilettes. Which probably can't be helped, due to the location, you are not in the city after all. You are up in nature.
First this bothered us a bit, but in the next days, during our stay, we started to change our opinion. Yes, the bathroom was not the most pleasant, but the location and the staff really helped us to beat the crowds in the park and make the best of our stay. So I think it's a fair trade. You just need to think about what's important to you.
So even though we had to get used to the smelly bathroom, we would still stay here again in the future, because you win more through the location and the staff.
If you are a very sensitive to the things mentioned above, then you should maybe choose a higher category hotel outside the park, but then you will have to deal with a lot more crowds and queues. So choose according to your preferences.
- Koosha (7/5): Staying inside the park saves time but feels a bit overpriced. - Location and sunset point. Helpful stuff that explained the highlights of the map.. Nice tee and kiwis :) All in all overpriced for what it is. Food was in general rather average.
- Allison (10/5): - Beautiful location right inside the park! Really allows you to take advantage of your time in the park. They have a sunset spot, and if you want they can bring you to another sunrise spot. Staff are very helpful in planning your itinerary for you as well. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious.
- JohannesOnTour (9/5): Lovely accommodation but plan your trip thoroughly if you want to save some money - The property is lovely. They have a great sunset spot and it's great to explore the park. They also give you a lot of information on how to get there and where to hike etc.
If you only want to hike you can save a lot of money if you only get the entrance ticket without the cable car pass. We did a 2 day tour and it was perfect and cheaper that way. You'll need to book these tickets by yourself though because Yolo can only arrange reduced tickets that include the cable car pass.
Also if you leave your bags at a hotel in Zhangjiajie you can take cheap busses to the east gate (Wulingyuan) from Zhangjiajie that are 13 yuan per person. Then you don't need the more expensive pickup from the city.
All in all a really lovely stay and perfect to explore the park without entering again every day. Also the location within the tea fields is awesome and the room was big. The food there was quite expensive. Especially the dinner (we paid about 45 per person and only had a small dinner). The breakfast for 20 is okay though.
Also there was some smell from the sewer which was acceptable though.

- Alex (8/5): Amazing location and staff that assist your entire tourist experience in the area. Would highly recommend to anyone. - The main pull of the property is the brilliant location and the very helpful staff. We were given lots of support prior to and during our stay in understanding tickets and planning our route. Alex in particular was extremely helpful and assisted us with a route for our two days there, which helped us avoid most of the crowds. There is also a restaurant on site which has great food. I think for the price paid, small cleaning like emptying bins in the room or replacing towels could be done each day.

- Daniele (5/5): Great improvement opportunities - The positive things: the very good location within the park, the willingness to share information and help on how to visit the park and suggestions on how to get around. Unfortunately, the things that didn't work out were the cleanliness of the rooms, which wasn't the best, and the courtesy of the kitchen staff, which wasn't the best.
The menu lists some dishes, but
some ingredients are missing (like the beacon or the meat), yet they still charge you for the dish as if it were complete. The information about transportation costs was unclear (the resort driver was not at all polite).

- Anna (10/5): - Wspaniałe miejsce. Piękny widok, zresztą jedyny hotel w parku. Boski klimat i przede wszystkim świetny organizator pobytu Alex, biegle władający angielskim.
- Ciro (10/5): - Posizione all'interno del parco.
Cena molto buona.
- Martin (10/5): We enjoyed Zhangjiajie without crowds - The manager Alex was super helpful, he provided great advice how to enjoy Avatar mountain before crowds come, so we had the whole area completely for ourselves between 7.15 am and 8 am. Also sunsets were unforgettable. Thanks a lot!
- Krzysztof (10/5): Amazing place in Zhangjiajie National Park - The hotel is located within the national park, which was incredible. The rooms are basic but have everything necessary.
- Sophie (9/5): - It’s inside the park, which is great
- Natalie (7/5): -
- Tom (7/5): Excellent location and staff, passable facilities - The location is amazing, inside the park so you can visit the whole park without waiting in long queue. You just need to stop the shuttle when they come by the hotel.
The staff is also incredible: Alex the manager gave us a lot of advice on how to visit the park, we had both pickup and drop off service in great cars/vans - Carole helped us secure our tickets for the park very easily. The facilities overall are a bit poor, especially the beds which are VERY hard. Otherwise the rooms are okay, except for the bathroom which was all in one room (the shower next to the toilet so no separation) which makes the floor wet all the time.
