• Rommell (7/5): Good value for location if you don’t mind shared bathroom/shower. - Maria was an immense help and made my stay pleasant. No mirrors in bathroom/shower. Shower slow to get warm. Creaky stairs.
• Ba Lich (1/5): I felt unhappy and disappointed that I booked this guest house. - The staff is professional, kind, and supportive. The room is too small, dark, and not well equipped. The toilet is not large enough for one person to sit. The shower is terribly designed. I could not take a shower with this facility.
• peter (10/5): New York City Guest House - I wanted to see how locals lived rather than the pricey tourist locations. We couldn't of asked for more for the price. Building is old and very dated inside but the, mattress , sheets and pillows were clean and more comfortable than some more expensive posh places we have stayed which was the most important thing for us as we were literally using the hotel for a base. We were literally out at 0700 and back at 0200 all 5 days. You literally leave , turn right then first left and your at the RED 2 and 3 metro for down or up town and was in Times Square in 15 minutes. If you want to see new york and can't afford the pricey tourist hotels this is the perfect place in my opinion. What you save on a hotel pays for your attractions. Harlem was nice and the people we met were friendly. We didn't feel uneasy walking back to the hotel in the early hours which was the only bit I was apprehensive about before arriving.

The bedding was comfortable, and there was everything we needed for four people, including bath towels, which was very convenient. But most importantly, Maria was wonderful. She helped us arrive early, was always available, and even looked after our luggage for half a day. She was always smiling and incredibly attentive.

• Aaron (9/5): Clean, superb value and wonderful, friendly service. - Great location in the boroughs so more like a local experience. Small bathroom but that goes with territory at the price paid.
• Chris (7/5): - Location is fine with quite fast transport to downtown. This is a quite area. Ok, this is NYC. But for a Hostel style accommodation the price was on the high side. There was no dish detergent in the kitchen. And getting hot water in the shower was a hit and miss.

• Sam (9/5): Good place to stay in NYC for a solo traveler - The place is great value for what I got. The building and room was very clean. I never had issues with accessing the bathroom even though I was sharing it with people on my floor. The check-in and check -out process was self-service and easy to do. The location was in a good location and close to the subway. The building was a bit old, so the stairs were a bit creaky.

• Hopscotch Travel (9/5): Great location and good value - Very good value and great location within easy walk of 2 subway stations and lots of Harlem restaurants, sites, museums, and more. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are both near the 125th Street subway station. I stayed December 30 and 31, two very busy nights in NYC, and was able to access NYE concerts in midtown easily by subway. Nice and warm in the room. Shared bathroom was always available. In-room fridge and fast Wi-Fi. Recommended!

• Filip (9/5): - - Quick and clear responses to my questions -The shared bathroom was very clean, and rarely busy. -The heating was great (i was there mid december with temperatures below zero). - The room was clean and comfy I was staying for a week, and I was mostly out sightseeing during the day so it was a good fit for my needs. More (coat)hangers in the room and in the shared bathroom would be a good improvement.

The Fridge was also making sounds. The toilet was too small. It was really hard for me to fit in it for doing my business. I am 6 feet and my knees were touching the wall while sitting. The hot water was not working. The water was lukewarm.

En el baño compartido había un solo rollo de papel y tuve que avisar para repusieran el papel. El barrio al principio me daba un poco de medio pero me acostumbre al ambiente.

• Jonathan (7/5): A great place to sleep while exploring the city. - We were pleasantly surprised with the location and size of the apartment. The full kitchen was a bonus and we felt very safe in the area. We were in town for the NYC Marathon and the route runs right by the unit, so that was a plus. The check-in process was simple, but communication seemed a little fragmented with the host. We didn't receive our check-in instructions until well after 3pm. Luckily we didn't need it that early, but I would've liked more clear check-in and check-out procedures earlier in the day that we checked in.

On a pu arriver a 9h au lieu de 15h sans problème et elle a aussi gardé nos bagages toute la journée de notre check out. Je recommande fortement car tout était propre et calme. Une kitchenette et une douche sont disponibles a chaque étages.

• delphine (8/5): Nuit à Harlem - L'appartement se trouve à 10 minutes maximum du métro qui dessert les principaux points d'intérêts de New York. La rue est vraiment très calme. Le personnel est réactif et accueillant. La cuisine dans l'appartement est vraiment très appréciable pour les petits déjeuners ou les repas tard le soir. Une supérette est à proximité. Petits points négatifs : l'appartement est un peu vétuste (mais typique, fonctionnel et propre) et il manque de prises électriques.

In my small room I had a quite a big fridge, extra toilet paper, fork and knife. The host was super friendly. Shower was a bit confusing since there did not seem to be hot water. Later I was told I should have to let it run for some minutes to get warm.

Gr - The location, staff being friendly, clean room, towel/hand rag/soap/fridge, and even included a small table and two chairs! No mirror in one of the bathrooms, one shower was basically aiming towards the wall and could not move the nozzle towards the middle. The water pressure in another shower took at least 5 minutes to get to close to warm to be okay to shower

Je redoute de contaminer mon logement à mon retour de voyage. 😭 Aussi il n'y avait pas d'eau chaude la 1ère nuit.

And the shared kitchen was clear. The AC made a lot of noise. It didn’t matter to me because it’s also white noise but if you are sensitive to it you should know and it’s like this in many places in NY. And the water flow in the shower was weak.

• Laetitia (9/5): Agréable séjour - Très bon rapport qualité prix, pour une chambre située dans une joli brownstone house de Harlem. La maison est dans une rue calme mais à proximité de toutes les commodités (métro, restaurants, supermarché, lieux de sortie) La chambre et les parties communes (douche et toilettes) sont très propres. La chambre est climatisée et dispose d'un réfrigérateur. Nous avons été très bien accueillis par notre charmante et sympathique hôtesse, et elle a été très arrangeante notamment en ce qui concerne les bagages. Il n'y a pas de mauvaise surprise, tout est conforme à la description, néanmoins, il faut savoir que la chambre se situe au 3e étage sans ascenseur, il vaut mieux donc voyager léger.

• Karl (7/5): Very basic accommodation - Close enough to the Subway. Communication was great. Stairs were hard to get the luggage up and down. Top sheet was too small, did not cover properly. This might just be me, but I struggled to get to sleep the first two nights, which turned out to because the air-conditioning is aimed at the bed it was giving me a chill. The external temperatures were too high to not have the air-conditioning going, so leaving off was not an option. The air-conditioning did not seem to regulate well, so it would on/ off pump out cold to maintain room temperature. I eventually found that I could use the chair in the room to redirect the breeze from the air-conditioning and did not have trouble falling asleep after that.
• Mauricio (10/5): Great and clean easy-going guesthouse - The host was great, very attentive and diligent. Short walking distance to mini market, restaurants, metro stations and a big mall. Even being a very diverse and merry neighborhood, the location was calm and safe. Even the bathroom are very clean it's not room private but floor shared. I never happened to cross-upwalk with another hostess, though.

Chuveiro ótimo, cama confortável, era exatamente o que a gente estava procurando. Lugar limpo e anfitriã muito simpática Poderia ter uma chaleira de água quente no hall da cozinha. É uma comodidade simples que pode ajudar quem chega tarde e precisa fazer um café ou um noodles. Pra mim foi o único ponto fraco. Importante salientar que a acomodação possui 4 andares portanto certifique com a anfitriã para não ser surpreendido caso tenha algum problema de mobilidade.

• Kathleen (5/5): Cheap and clean - Clean room, clean bathroom. Towel presentation was a nice touch. Think hostel more than hotel. It is a bargain accommodation, would spend the money elsewhere next time. Room pictured (on this comment page) was one of three rooms shown on the booking page. The New York City Guesthouse listed amenities that included the icon for a private bathroom. The "lower end" rooms are a shared bathroom with a separate shared shower stall room; with that distinction noted nowhere. Room also was a 3 story walk up, mentioned only on arrival. Property personnel responded to my inquiry about the listing and shared that the misrepresentation (as I do have and was willing to share a screen shot) is the responsibility of Booking.com.
