• Thomas (8/5): Pleasant stay and good value not far from the town center. - A nice little apartment next to a stream. Very pleasant sitting outside listening to the stream. It's about 1.5 km from the center of town, a 20-25 minute walk, a 4 minute drive. Very good value. There's a small cafe and mini market about an 8-10 minute walk from the apt and a restaurant almost next door. The cafe has great coffee and tasty carrot bread. The water heater in the shower was not working.

• Cyril (8/5): Nice place with forest view - I enjoyed the little piece of forest with river right next to the room . You can see some frogs and insects . Also liked the outdoor kitchen with some equipment to cook. Bring filter for the coffee machine . You ll need a car to reach the place a few kilometres outside La fortuna. Bedroom /bathroom are nice . There is no sign Habana lodge and there were construction materials around so we couldn’t guess we had arrived .

Good location in a sense that is between the town and sights like Fortuna waterfalls, Cerro Chato hike and few cholote/coffee tour places. Also the surroundings and room very nice (river flowing right nest to building). Enjoyed my stay in here. Nothing really. Can be a bit far from the town, but wasn't a problem for me.
• Carolyn (8/5): Lovely apartment in a beautiful, quiet and natural environment. - The apartment we stayed in and its location and deck area near a stream next to rainforest. It had everything we needed for our stay and was quiet and comfortable. The owners who were passionate about conservation and were doing their utmost to develop the business further and enhance the natural environment. There was work being done to make a jacuzzi pool area and new car park while we were there but this wasn’t disruptive The owners were also very responsive and helpful and did their utmost to make our stay as good as it could be. Easy access to the town by a short car journey. A couple of shops / cafes in walking distance We liked everything, however there were issues with the electricity when we were there which were nothing to do with the owners.

The room backs onto a forested area with a lovely stream. The kitchen is outdoors on the back deck (under cover), where you can hear the stream and watch the trees for animals. Our host was friendly and very knowledgeable about the region and is a well-trained massage therapist.

• Colleen (10/5): A hidden paradise for those who love nature, peace and quiet, while being a short distance from restaurants and coffee s - Having a balcony overlooking the river with beautiful trees was exactly what we were looking for. In the first few minutes, we saw toucans, and later several other species of birds. Emanuel, our host, was exceptional. He made sure we had everything we needed, and showed us all the items in the little kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the place was very clean.

Staying at Habana River Lodge was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The night tour in the backyard was absolutely mesmerizing and became one of the highlights of our stay. Additionally, the terrace overlooking the river and rainforests is amazing. The lodge itself is very clean and comfortable. If I could, I would give more than ten stars for our experience! I can’t recommend enough.
• Earley (10/5): Great Stay - Great location. Enjoyed sitting outside on the porch and looking for wildlife! Emmanuel, the owner, was wonderful. Definitely do a night tour with him. We were able to see so much right next to our cabana. Also took a tour to Arenal Volcano with him. Lots of fun. Photos were from behind our room. The viper was on a hike at the Arenal Volcano with Emmanuel. Natural showers, but worth it for a few days.

• Veronika (9/5): Superb - The location - out of the town's noise but close enough to everything. Walkable distance to restaurants. The patio is also fantastic! All you can hear there is the river below and the birds. We saw toucans several times! Emmanuel is also super lovely host, true image of pura vida!

He responded always very quickly, was very helpful and did everything to make our stay pleasant. We did the night walk with him and saw a lot of amazing animals, got loads of surprising information: his enthousiasm and love for the nature of this area and for nature in general made it a real high light for us: aanrader!

The host is a nature enthusiast and gave us an amazing Night Tour where we saw a wide variety of frogs, toads, lizards and an opossum. We can totally recommend it!

We were close to town but got to fall asleep to sounds of a river and frogs. We went on a night tour with him just out our back door, his love and knowledge of Costa Rican wildlife was infectious! Room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. Highly recommend! Nothing

• Jesse (10/5): A near perfect experience and connection for us. Highly recommended! - From the moment we arrived at Habana River Lodge and Sanctuary we were blown away. It was apparent almost immediately our host, Emanuel, would be a friend for life. What he has put together with the river lodge and Sanctuary is amazing. His passion and innerstanding of the flora and fauna is remarkable. The night nature walk he took us on was unreal. First person National Geographic. In an hour and a half, we saw nearly 10 species of frogs. The day view of the monkeys and birds is incredible. The river that runs directly behind his operation was amazing as well. Perfect for a walk, relaxation, meditation. A clear view of Arenal volcano is close as well. We were traveling through much of the country for almost 2 weeks and by far he was our favorite host. The lodging was excellent. The location was amazing. He provided details and directions to all locations and destinations discussed, without us asking. Close to town and several waterfalls. I give this experience and connection a perfect experience for us. Highly recommended! I’ll be back in January. Pura Vida, brother!
• Patricia (10/5): Such an amazing place to stay at!! - Our stay here was incredible! We didn't want to leave. The inside was clean and modern and the bed was very comfortable. The outside however is where its at! We saw howler monkeys right outside on our first morning there! The water was also very nice for a little dip. Was too cold for me but my husband loved it. The location is fantastic! Close to downtown but far enough away to be nature-y. Very safe and private. If we're ever in this area in the future we'll definitely stay here again!

It’s definitely a sanctuary with its location on the river and at the end of a road. All you hear are birds and water flowing by. Very peaceful and private! The owner was awesome! We appreciated him sharing his knowledge and passion for nature. We learned a lot! He also guided us on a tour where we saw sloths! Was a wonderful stay!

The shower area is in keeping with the natural theme of the property. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
• Rachel (10/5): Amazing stay! - The host Emmanuel is awesome! He is so eager to show you around the property, which is right next to a beautiful river! In the morning we saw howler monkeys in the trees, and Emmanuel showed us a very pretty rainbow-coloured frog in a pond in the property. It was nice to be so close to nature, but we didn't get many mosquito bites in our room. This place was perfect for us!
• Brian (7/5): Decent place for a night to see Arenal - Nice setting near a creek but don't expect swimming. Host is kind and speaks good English. Hot shower, big bathroom and room, nicer outdoor kitchen. Seemed like things weren't totally thought out. No curtain in the back large windows, though the window is tinted. Had a beetle on my head at night but it's the jungle. It seemed basic for the price, but it's mostly clean and worked well.

• Shirley (10/5): Amazing! Pura Vida ❤️🇨🇷🤗 - The Habana River Lodge.. in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 is an amazing, escape from the busy town. My husband and I came here to celebrate our 18th anniversary and could not have chosen a better place! Emmanuel our host was amazing. He welcomed us with open arms. His genuine enthusiasm and passion for nature radiates. He was very knowledgeable about all the plants, animal species and local locations to visit. Location is off road. Very quiet, safe and serene. You even have access to a private river with a small gushing waterfall. (So relaxing) & Definitely way Better than any man made jacuzzi. There’s rocks you can sit on and the water feels amazing. The river, is only a 2 min walk from your room. The sounds of nature are soothing. And the view of the rainforest is spectacular. Make sure you take the “Night Tour!” Available right on the property. It’s an additional cost but well worth the investment. So many hidden species and so much to explore and learn. There a fridge and kitchen area in the back area. Bedroom with queen bed. No tv.. which wasn’t an issue for us because we came to relax and reset. The bathroom has a beautiful walk in shower and parking is available right outside your door. Very close to La Fortuna, and Arenal Volcano. There are also many local bars, restaurants, attraction tours, and shops in the area. With quite a few being within walking distance. Emmanuel, was very friendly, and attentive to all of our needs. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves and truly appreciate the hospitality. We haven’t even left yet, & already can’t wait to return. Pura Vida 🤗🇨🇷❤️ There wasn’t anything not to like.
• Steven (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay, and sadly, I had it booked only for one night. The location is great, and so is Emanuel. He was very welcoming and friendly, and he had a comprehensive experience and knowledge about the Fauna and Flora on his property. I can highly recommend doing the night tour. It was well worth the money. Would and will visit again. The bus shuttle had a difficult time finding the place since there are multiple places that are called Habana.... something. Google maps and the directions supplied via text helped.

• Vlad (10/5): Had an amazing time - This place was an experience! There’s something about falling asleep to the sounds of a river, and spotting toucans while having your morning coffee on the balcony. Emmanuel and his family are lovely hosts - Emmanuel was welcoming and helpful, and provided a night tour down the river literally behind the house where we spotted more wildlife in two hours than I have in ten years in England. Among other things, I had a chance to hold a frog and a firefly, and have taken enough photos of frogs and lizards to fill a small book. Emmanuel is passionate about nature, and it shows in everything that he does, and in all the other tours I have taken with him. Honestly, in many ways I felt like I was part of the family, and it’s made my stay in La Fortuna absolutely special. The double bed felt very comfortable, and I slept very well here. There is an outdoors kitchen with an induction stove, a fridge, and a coffee machine that you can use while you’re there. You’re away from the center of La Fortuna, but within walking distance of an absolutely amazing restaurant (Chante Verde), supermarket, and Ginger Restaurant & Bar as well. A slightly longer walk can take you to the El Salto rope swing if you want to jump in the river, or you can also walk quite a bit more from the accommodation to get to La Fortuna waterfall. I’ve also walked back from the town center one evening and it was rather pleasant, especially as you can see Arenal volcano pretty much all the time. I assume Emmanuel’s place isn’t going to be for everyone. Being so close to so much wildlife, while absolutely amazing, has its obvious drawbacks as well, and there is a back-to-basics country living vibe to the place. Having said that, if one is willing to step out of their urban comfort zone a little, it’s a wonderful change and a wonderful and very real experience overall, and one that you’d be missing out on in a more traditional hotel setting.

• Inge (10/5): Wonderful lovely hosts - Wonderful place. Superb terrace with magnificent views. Refreshing private River. As good as a jacuzzi. Night tour was amazing. Wandering around alone at night with flash light to spot frogs... Said to the host that my dream for Costa Rica was seeing an armadillo and he made it happen! Room was warm, but at night it was fine. During the day we looked for refreshment in the river.
• Ewa (9/5): Real Costa Rica experience - The lodge is in a quite location, almost in the middle of a forest with a small river. A nature surrounding the lodge is amazing, you can hear and see local animals, birds etc. The room was simple but clean, with a small kitchenette. Emanuel is a great host with very open and friendly kids coming over to play The lodge is outside of La Fortuna city - it is 30 min walk, but for some it can be difficult, especially in a heat. However the host was kind enough to take me to the nearest grocery shop or to the city when necessary.
• Ryan (10/5): Exceptional - This is an amazing spot, you can hear the river and the sounds of the wildlife from your room. Down by the river there is a lot of wildlife to be found and some can be seen from the balcony. Emmanuel is a great host and he taught us lots about the wildlife there.
• P.k. (10/5): Perfect hide away, from the busy city La Fortuna. - This place was sow relaxed, with a jungle and private river in your backyard. We saw even a sloth in the backyard. We loved it! 45 min walk from the city center La Fortuna, but perfect with an Uber and a supermarket and restaurants in 10 min walk. So you don’t have to be in the busy city centre. A simple lodge, with a small kitchen. And a mosquito net above the bed. But for us this was perfect!
• Melissa (10/5): Affordable rainforest retreat - It is a beautiful riverside location that is private but walkable to groceries and restaurants without being in the center of town. The room is simple but comfortable. We loved the large private balcony to have coffee and listen to the rain, birds, frogs and sloths. Emmanuel warmly welcomed us and showed us around his property, even pointing out a blue jeans frog. Nothing to dislike. Maybe a fan in the room would be nice.

The location was perfect - minutes away from the buzz of the city's center and the room was fully equipped. The host was very friendly and he was there to welcome us and provide suggestions for the activities around the area. It was a great experience to be listening to the sound of the river and birds when waking up. thanks to the host, we also had the chance to spot the little green frog with red eyes. Would definitely choose again to spend a few more days. Highly recommended!

• Diana (1/5): Owner will tell you take your own garbage with you when you check out. - I liked the backyard of the place. It was the rainforest itself. Saw howling monkeys and other creatures of the day and night. What was nice was the active river below the place. There were no nets on windows and doors. Everything was cheaply made and is bare minimum. Minimum enough to host a person. No fan. So no air circulation and lots of bugs especially at night. I had to go out and buy a fan. The owner reached out to me to come back and take my own "garbage" fan with me. Never had I ever had anyone tell me to take my own garbage with me. That's insane. Because of that, my review is not so great.

Emmanuel is a wonderful host who can plan activities and take you on a night walk to see many animals, including the iconic red-eye tree frog right on the property! Can swim in the river and be in an oasis of nature but also easily access all the attractions that La Fortuna area has to offer

Emmanuel and his wife are such great hosts. Passion and so much knowledge about the area, nature and all the animals. • Filip (10/5): Exceptional - I loved everything! The accommodation is incredible! You are in contact with nature all the time. An open terrace with a kitchen is something I love. You have breakfast, wine with your partner and you have a view of the jungle and you can listen to the diversity of nature. You like swimming on hot days, you can walk 20 meters from the terrace and swim in the stream for free. Super bathroom, comfortable bed, everything is perfect there. The Emmanuel staff is also wonderful. He willingly and happily advised us what and how. He gave us tips and tricks to save extra money and minutes of your time at LA Fortune. A bonus from Emmanuel was a trip to nature where he showed us Wild Life. He is very experienced and thanks to him we managed to see Sloths, different types of frogs, Crocodiles and a lot of other animals that are incredibly camouflaged. Nothing! Everything was perfect!

Not a negative be really good if you were able to drop bags off earlier than check in, as most other places we’ve stayed in have let us do, just to make activities during the day easier. A cool addition would be mosquito net door and window cover so can leave door open to hear the river at night.
• Paul (9/5): A quiet place to escape from the La Fortuna crowds - with your own river access - The location is excellent if you like nature - you have your own direct access to a river and the view from the balcony is very nice. The owners live nearby, and can help with any question you have. You probably do want a car, as it's a good half hour walk from the town center, but that also means you have absolute peace and quiet. The apartment is still getting final touches, and some things could be improved - a reading light besides the bed and some more kitchen utensils would be nice. Note that the owners are actively working on it, so by the time you read this there probably have been improvements already!
