Guest Reviews
- NICOLA (8/5): A lovely apartment in a great location. - The room was lovely and spacious and beautifully clean. A superb location to explore Hanoi from. It was great to watch the trains from our bedroom window.
Mr Tim was very welcoming and informative. The batteries in some of the remote controls didn’t work so we couldn’t use the projector and Netflix controls.
Some instructions to use the Netflix controls would be helpful

- Mohit-Virmani (10/5): Lovely boutique apartment near train street - Lovely boutique apartment with modern appliances and very comfortable beds. The apartment is located right opposite Train street so you can walk across and watch the trains go by. The staff are nice and helpful and can help with activity bookings and such. If you decide to stay in the room instead of exploring Hanoi, there is a projector and books. Not recommended for those with mobility issues due to narrow stairs.
- June (8/5): - Friendly staff who explained everything well and gave us some recommendations. Good location (you can slightly see the train) near cafes and restaurants. As the property is right next to a road, mornings were quite loud from around 6am (not counted in the score rating since it’s just a personal preference). Some more light blockage from the windows would’ve been nice. Maybe not ideal location for light sleepers.
- Gillian (10/5): -
- Martin (10/5): -
- Joan (7/5): Not as good as the pictures - Communication with the host Mr Tim was excellent. Located close to the famous Train Street was an attraction, however the trains could be heard from 6am.
Having the use of a washing machine was a bonus. There were food remains in the kitchen sink from a previous renter, this made me very concerned about the standard of cleaning in the accommodation.
There was no door on the bathroom, just a flimsy curtain which didn’t give much privacy, this was not evident from the photos. Also the shower didn’t drain properly resulting in mini floods in the bathroom.
Entry/exit arrangements need to be improved. Having to open a lock box when you enter and leave is cumbersome and I suggest after the first entry a key should be available in the room. It was also a security issue as a number of times we found the box unlocked.
- Amrita (7/5): Good stay, minor improvements - Great location, beautifully decorated room The owner was very insistent on cash only despite having a travel agency downstairs where presumably there is a card machine. Fine for short stays, but in Vietnam I've found everywhere else to take card especially for these prices.
I also had to request new batteries for the projector remote multiple times, and this was never provided.
Bathtub being available is great, but not enough hot water for a full bath.
Other than that, a great stay

- Jeremy (9/5): Nicely designed apartment in very convenient location. - Very nicely designed apartment, looks just like the photos. The location is great, right across the famous rail street and walking distance to the old quarter. Bed was huge and very comfy! And we enjoyed having the big screen and projector. The owner’s communication was very clear on WhatsApp. It’s a little noisy during the day, although it’s much quieter at night.
- Angelique (9/5): Great location, traditional design. - Authentic traditional house design. The bed was hard but really comfortable. Great location. The water heat lasts a few minutes then needs a few minutes. Maybe I didn’t figure it out properly. Would’ve loved a clean bath mat. As with many places in the heart of Hanoi, you hear nighttime activity but it wasn’t too bad.

- Rimi (10/5): Would definitely stay again . Tim was so helpful when we ran into trouble getting g train tickets . - Absolutely everything!
- Diane (9/5): Overall we really enjoyed our stay - Location, personal decor Shower was a bit blocked , paintwork starts to chip away in the bathroom, details about getting into property arrived a bit too late as we were coming from different places
- Susann (10/5): I will booking this accommodation again…! - Very very cozy homestay…with a lot of nice details. The bed is over the top comfortable…!
And the famous train street is just opposite but means not that is loud! Nothing…!!!
- Tanya (10/5): Excellent location space and host - The location. The decor. The spacious place. The little details. The attentiveness of the host. All made for a really memorable vacation. Tim was great. I would definitely return without a second thought
- charlotte (10/5): Great place to stay - Authentic, spacious, very comfortable apartment with great hosts! N/a
- Justin (10/5): - De locatie mooi centraal gelegen Een koudere douche
- Ronald (9/5): - De ligging was perfect
Fijne badkamer
Heerlijk bed Voor een appartement was er erg weinig glas- en serviesgoed, dit was verder geen probleem want je kunt overal in de buurt heerlijk eten, maar toch
- Georgia (10/5): Loved it and highly recommend a beautifully decorated room with fabulous staff - Tim was fantastic
Very helpful
Room was ideal if and very true to Vietnam . You could see train from window. Just one key to come in and out
- Radomir (8/5): Decent homestay near train street - Great central location. You can see the passing trains, and the train street cafes are just across. The host is very helpful.
The apartment was relatively clean, but not impressive, as other comments suggest. The apartment is dated. Visible wear. The kitchen is not very useful: limited countertop space; the faucet splashes water all around; one cook pot only.
The washing machine is shared, on the top staircase platform. It spins horizontally, so it is not very effective. No drying function.
It is relatively expensive. We stayed at another place just across the block for a much better price and facilities.

- Tony (10/5): I’d definitely stay here again if returning to Hanoi! - The design of the room is real nice, it has a originality and also feels like classic design. The location is right opposite train street and walking distance to many other attractions. The projector in the room is very cool, easy to use and link to Netflix (has an account available) and YouTube. Just be aware it’s a narrow staircase and no elevator so if you have big bags it’s a mission.
- Anh tuan (9/5): -
- Elise (8/5): - Very nice bed; soft matress and very big! Nice location close to the city centre. Shower head a little leaky and bit on the expensive side.
- Selvaramu (10/5): -
- Angelo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lo (8/5): Value for money - Large room, close to the railway street No door for bathroom just a curtain
Electricity was out for hours on our last day, super hot
- Ben (10/5): Quiet haven in the heart of busy Hanoï - Thank you!!! It was an amazing stay at the railway retreat. We used Hanoï as our base to travel to Sa Pa and Ha Long Bay and this was our last weekend before our flight out of Vietnam. We wanted something quiet and spacious to just chill and reflect on our trip and this was the perfect place for it!
Close to the old quarter for our last shopping spree and loads of amazing restaurants and coffees nearby. Then you come back in this quiet haven.
The host are amazing and were extremely attentive.
I would definitely recommend!
- Meena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabella (9/5): Great view of train street - Amazing location, you can see the trains go by from the window. As others have mentioned, the trains are loud but not enough to ever wake us up, however that might be a problem for very light sleepers. We loved the decor and the ability to do our laundry by ourselves in the washing machine (it's often surprisingly difficult to find somewhere do this in Vietnam!).
We didn't need the sofa bed but it was an actual mattress, not a lumpy fold-out sofa so it would definitely be suitable for a group of 3. Bathroom and room slippers provided also. Although the bath was lovely, as others mentioned the hot water ran out quickly so it took us about an hour just to fill it while waiting for the water to heat up again 2-3 times. Otherwise great
- Meena (10/5): Fantastic accommodation in the heart of Old Quarter Hanoi - Amazing location and a little oasis in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Clean, beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfortable bed. Right opposite train street - you can hear the trains but we had earplugs so no problem. Was fun hearing them go past! Nothing - was so good!
- Denis (9/5): Superb - Just undervalued place. Very good design, you get everything. Good location, many restaurants near by. Huge bed. Not easy to find. Trains are pretty loud.
- Brett (8/5): Fabulous stay and wonderful people to deal with. Highly recommended. - We couldn’t have chosen a better location. You can see Train Street from the window. You have to be careful on the stairs up to the third floor but that really wasn’t an issue.
