Guest Reviews
- Nicole (10/5): Beautiful Accommodation - The property exceeded all expectations I had from the moment we arrived. It was beautifully presented, exceptionally clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The attention to detail throughout the property really stood out and made the experience even more enjoyable.
The host who looked after the property was absolutely amazing — friendly, responsive, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and their hospitality made us feel very welcome.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a fantastic place to stay and would happily return again in the future.
- Tansy (10/5): - The property and gardens were absolutely gorgeous and Kath made sure we were warm and cosy when we arrived later than anticipated
- Nathan (10/5): - The property is amazing, Kath is a fantastic property manager as well. Nothing, everything was perfect.
- Laura (10/5): A lovely place to stay. - Very homely and had everything we needed. Nothing.
- Nathan (10/5): Amazing property, friendly staff, beautiful location. - Everything Nothing
- Ikuko (10/5): Beautiful well maintained property - Both the interior and exterior were extremely clean and well-maintained. Amenities and supplies (toiletries, towels, kitchenware, etc.) were plentiful. Kath manages the facility very well. It was a very comfortable stay. Thank you so much. Be sure to buy the homemade jam and chutney if they are available; they were delicious. Nothing
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional place and host! Special touches everywhere. Serene, peaceful and beautiful. - Everything! What a wonderful place and host! Beautiful, serene gardens, spacious house well furnished, with attention to every detail. Super comfy beds, so clean and tidy. Special touches, like fresh jams from the food forest. Host went above and beyond. Very safe for our dogs. Thank you Kath. NA all was exceptional.
- Princy (10/5): Exceptional experience. - It was really amazing experience. The entire property gave us nostalgic memories of our place , back in Kerala. Kids really enjoyed and are very excited to talk about the experience with the chickens and the sheep. Kath was present when we arrived at the property. She showed us around and spent a good time with us making us feel very comfortable and welcomed. We feel a bit disappointed that we didn’t get enough time to spend in the property. Being a Sunday evening, we had to travel around 25 mts to get to the shops ( it would have helped if we thought in advance and brought some food with us).Couldn’t use the pool as it was not heated.

- Sarah (10/5): - I stayed here with some friends whilst travelling and have to say this is such a wonderful house to stay in. The rooms are beautiful and the house had everything we needed. The communication from the hosts were brilliant from start to finish. I would definitely stay here again and I can't wait to come back!
- Emma (10/5): Relaxing garden retreat in a comfortable traditional farmhouse a short distance from Mt Gambier. - Another excellent stay at Bella Mia. After a long drive across from Melbourne it was lovely to be met by Kath with a fire going in the lounge and fresh produce and jams available in the kitchen (available for a small voluntary donation towards garden supplies). The beds are comfortable with plenty of spare pillows and blankets. The garden is beautiful with lots of pathways winding through pretty overflowing beds and quirky sculptures and pots. Plenty of birdlife, some friendly sheep and a small flock of guinea fowl to entertain you as you stroll about. I couldn't find a soup ladle in the kitchen, but we made do with a mug, so no dramas!
- Harding (10/5): - Well organised and friendly staff. The location is out of town far enough to give you feeling of peace and tranquillity, but close enough to be handy for whatever your town needs are. The gardens are well maintained and have a great feel to them. They are well established. Somewhere you can sit and unwind. The accommodation is a grand old house with very high ceilings, well maintained and comfortably furnished. There isn't anything my wife or myself can think of that we didn't like. We will certainly be staying there again.

- Barbara (10/5): - The cottage was fantastic. Lovely staff who told us everything we needed to know . It was quiet relaxing and peaceful and l would have liked to stay longer. We had trouble finding cottage because of the lack of road only a track that petered out at times. Maybe a signpost at the entrance to track? A bathmat in the bath it was very slippery.
I also had trouble with the oven/grill combination maybe some instructions would help?
- Beau (10/5): - Fantastic quiet little cottage, very homely feel

- Annette (9/5): Very nice place, peaceful location, gorgeous gardens - Beautiful grounds! There was a bowl of fruit/vegies from the garden waiting for us in the house which was a nice touch. Great to be able to take our pups with us. The 3.30 pm check in time isn't great, especially for a one night stay. We barely had any time to explore the place before it got dark. We had dinner booked for 6.00 in Mount Gambier, which is a 20-25 minute drive from the property, so by the time we were given a quick tour of the facilities by the caretaker, unloaded our bags and got dressed, we had to leave again.
- Kathrina (10/5): - The house was cosy clean and staff was exceptional. I will definitely rebook again!! Everything was excellent nothing to complain about.
- Andrews (10/5): -
- French (10/5): - The house and gardens are beautiful. Despite the difficulty to maintain such a property it was clean and tidy and we had more than we needed.
It was wonderful being able to have the dogs with us.
- Rene (10/5): Sanctuary bliss in peaceful surroundings - Kath was amazing to deal with and made us feel right at home. The house and facilities were stunning. You can see the effort and love that is put into the property, we even had beautiful fresh flowers and a freshly picked fruit basket from the gardens in the house. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind and didn’t feel the need to go anywhere during our stay since it has all the facilities and beautiful gardens right there. The attention to detail was impressive and we enjoyed greeting the two resident sheep! Highly recommend staying here!
- Sandy (10/5): -
- Martinez (10/5): Good restful stay in beautiful surroundings - Serenity and beautiful gardens and the enclosed yard where our dogs could romp. The pet sheep were very friendly and added to our enjoyment.
- Wayne (9/5): - Everything Nothing
- Peter (9/5): An amazing place really. We were very glad to have stayed there highly recommended. - It’s a simply amazing almost unique place. Inside the historic house all the rooms had incredible periodic features and large bedrooms with floorboards and high ceilings. The garden is quite something else amazed to explore and it really is a country paradise full credit to the owners and Kath the property manager. An absence of electric blankets underneath the sheets albeit there are electric throw overs available. It was quite cold during our time there despite being November. The couch and lounge suite are not particularly comfortable.
- Adam (10/5): Beautiful Bella - Beautiful property very comfy rooms , Friendly polite and helpful Staff who is respectful of guests privacy and has done an amazing job maintaining the incredible gardens. Pool and out door areas are stunning Location was a little further from Mount Gambier than we imagined but property made up for it. Just wish we had longer to explore the gardens and surrounds.
- Tarnya (9/5): - Gorgeous place to stay, lovely accommodation. Rustic gardens with lots of places for kids to run around and explore.
- Hopper (10/5): - We loved that the kids had ample room to run around. The house felt more homely than home and had everything we could possibly need.
We had a wood fire pizza night which was great fun and the children got to feed the resident lambs.
The location is perfect , central to all the caves.
Will definitely go again
- Emma (10/5): Comfortable welcoming stay in an original stone farmhouse near Mt Gambier. - A beautiful garden setting, friendly resident lambs, lovely old stone home with original features made comfortable over the years with updates. The fire was lit and house warm when we arrived. Kath was on hand and made us very welcome. I could charge my plugin hybrid in the carport overnight using a handy powerpoint. Easy to find, lots of birdlife in the garden, close to local shops/servo and a 15 min drive to all that Mt Gambier offers. Will definitely book again! Thanks so much Bella Mia! Nothing. It was everything I thought it would be.
- Pete-Jo (10/5): -
- Zhang (10/5): Strongly recommend - Great ambience All OK
- Wesslink (10/5): Short stay in paradise - Nice and cosy rooms, fireplace in the lounge was amazing at night to relax and watch a movie.
Relaxing in the garden in the morning watching the birds.
- Kausal (10/5): Beautiful place in beautiful part of the world. - Old charm. Big. On acreage. Fireplace with wood supplied. Smart TV. Free wifi. Kitchen with all essentials.
Host very helpful. Liked everything
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mishelle (9/5): Superb - A beautiful stay at Bella Mia which I can not recommend highly enough. We were greeted by fairy lights and a roaring fireplace and the home is beautiful and fully of amazing things like the pizza oven in the alfresco dining area and a tennis court and swimming pool surrounded by beautiful gardens. The house even had fresh flowers and a bowl of fruits from the gardens . Thank you Kathy for your bountiful hospitality ! 2 spiders
- Cheryl (9/5): Nature and comfort in a dog friendly house. - Great room for the dog. Lovely area to go for a walk. Comfortable. Lovely evening by the fire.
Pool will be great for hot days and exercise
- Joanne (10/5): Peaceful - Peaceful. Lovely full house.
- Kim (10/5): Would stay again if we were in the area again - Location was fantastic, close enough but far enough away to feel comfortable.
Amenities were absolutely incredible. I mean what property provides the basic ingredients for cooking? A little bit dated but not in an uncomfortable manner.
The host approached the property multiple times after hours and we felt that there was not much privacy due to this.
If we had known there would be items to use for cooking we would have gone shopping in Mt Gambier to get other ingredients to cook with the kids instead of planning to go out. This information was lacking in the booking ad.
- Xinyu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trish (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! The house, the beautiful, beautiful garden, the thoughtful touches, the serenity, the peace, the quiet. It really is a little piece of paradise! The fact that we could only fit a one night stay into our itinerary. I could stay for a week, or more
- Elke (10/5): A real paradise! - We had an amazing stay with our family in the Bella Mia Tuscan Paradise! This place really felt like paradise: very clean, so much space, beautiful nature, pool. We enjoyed the house and the beautiful surroundings. Definitely recommended if you want to relax and escape the city life. If we could, we would have loved to stay longer to enjoy it here! Very friendly host and delicious vegetables from the garden! Thank you so much! Nothing!
- Yvette (9/5): Superb -
- Deepak (9/5): Great Nature Friendly accommodation close to Mt Gambier - Great location, Parking entrance was too tight for large vehicle. Fencing tree needs triming to avoid scratchs on car.
- Julie (10/5): Perfect retreat! - We loved everything about this beautiful period cottage. Kath was amazing, a wonderful host.
Highly recommend!
5 stars🌟
- Chris (10/5): An excellent property, well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed the location. An excellent host. - Ample supply of food for breakfast so didn't need to eat much of what we brought with us. Location and the property itself excellent. Host Kath is a lovely person and really made us welcome. She is such a busy person having to maintain this property. No such thing as not liking this property. Spent 4 days there and there was no need to leave this place as just viewing and walking around the property and area was suitable to our needs.
- Jasmin (10/5): We can't wait to go back and spend a week at Bella Mia! - This is a truly unique property. Cozy and luxurious all at the same time. The facilities are excellent for families: beautiful gardens to explore, tennis court, indoor pool, chess... the list goes on!
- Graham (10/5): A great experience in a secluded location, great character, wonderful surroundings in a countyr sett - The location is quiet and secluded. the house is an older style and has a lot of charming character, very well equipped with all the mod cons.
- Carole (8/5): Very good - Great place very relaxing, comfortable. Older cottage with rustic features, fire place for cold nights and pool for summer that we didn’t use as to cold. Great secure yard for our small dog. Beautiful gardens. Half way between Mount Gambier and Millicent, convenient for exploring area.
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Liz (9/5): Perfect place to get away, relax and explore the South East of South Australia - Kath was amazing! We arrived with 3 small dogs and she made sure that they could be secured in the yard connected to the back door. The property was clean, warm and quiet and the gardens were inspirational. It had all the kitchen and bathroom amenities you could want and more.
- Williams (8/5): A place the whole family can enjoy, peaceful and comfortable - That we could have our dog their and lots of great garden for my dog and daughter to explore 😊 Pool not heated. We thought it was because the picture shows its indoors. That was a bit disappointing.
- Alexandra (10/5): Very comfortable and homely - A beautiful house and so well styled to be really inviting and comfortable. We used the kitchen to make a family meal and enjoyed time by the fire. Kath was so friendly and the garden was beautiful.
- Mary (9/5): Superb - The place was all kinda magical. You need more than a night to really explore this beautiful property I assumed that the indoor pool would have been heated. It wasn't advertised as being so, I just made an assumption, so that was a little disappointing considering the price per night. It kinda sucked that we couldn't use it
- Pam (10/5): Relaxing - Pet friendly - Beautiful place to stay - Loved arriving to a warm house and relaxing on the cozy lounge with a great book from the large book selection. Really enjoyed the finer touches around the home like the vase of flowers/herbs and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Kitchen allowed us to cook all our meals and even bake a cake. Best thing was exploring the beautiful gardens with our dog.
- Purnima (10/5): Magical accommodation for the whole family, including your fur baby. - I love the private location of this accommodation and the vibrant colours of the interior. Very spacious inside and out, the garden was magical. I am so appreciative that it was dog friendly. Incrediable facilities and very large and comfortable beds. It was easy to locate, and Kath was very welcoming. Would love to return to this accommodation in spring because I know it will be stunning with countless varieties of flowers blooming all around. No faults, everything was perfect.
- Allan (8/5): Property Manager is excellent and so easy to deal with. Out of the way location easy to find. - Location was great, peaceful and beautiful star filled night skies when not overcast. Due to winter not all facilities were open to us but the price is the same as in summer when all facilities can be used.
- Patrick (10/5): Peaceful - It was a cool house that was located out of town which was perfect for me. It was so peaceful
