Guest Reviews
- Kylie (10/5): Fantastic hidden gem!! - Felt very natural and private. Wonderful staff and chilled vibe
- Emilia (8/5): Peaceful escape - The highlight of the hotel is definitely the staff. Mrs. Lucretia and Mr. Sergio were exceptional-both went above and beyond. They were always attentive, kind, and clearly worked very hard to maintain the property and assist guests. Their dedication truly made a positive impression on us. That said, the staff deserve recognition for their effort and hospitality. The room itself did not fully meet our expectations, especially considering the price. The bungalow we received did not quite match the photos and description shown at the time of booking, which was a bit disappointing. There were also a few comfort and maintenance issues. The mosquito net above the bed had an unusual shape that made sleeping somewhat uncomfortable, and the bed itself felt a bit short. Unfortunately, despite the mosquito net, we still experienced mosquito bites. The toilet occasionally had issues refilling with water, and there was no hot water during our stay. The towels also appeared somewhat worn.

- Dries (9/5): - Very nice hotel with friendly staff We had a rental car and drove to the hotel ourselves, some locals tried to make our car stop by throwing themselves in front of the car to take our money, we continued driving as soon as we noticed this but they kept on following us with motor bikes. The hotel should have warned us, since according to them, it is common there.
- Pauline (6/5): - Le personnel
Manca pure l’acqua cslda. Dovrebbe costare la metà e sarebbe già troppo
- Alana (2/5): - The site and team that run the property and wonderful and can't do enough for you. It's a real shame for the property because they have clearly taken great care to create a wonderful environment but there huge boats that dock right in front of the property playing unbearably loud and terrible music, with jet skies darting around all over the place. Apparently this happens most days 11am-4pm and theres nothing they can do about it. I think it's a real shame, we left because of it.
- Karolin (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing get away with the best hosts - It’s the most beautiful hidden gem, we absolutely loved our stay there! Señor Sergio and Dona Lucrecia made us immediately feel at home and made sure everything was just perfect and taken of. It’s the perfect place to relax and get away from busy Cartagena for some days and being in very good hands by the hosts. We liked it all!! Just some useful information: I would recommend to bring a good repellent since it’s in the middle of nature and there naturally are a lot of our mosquitos. You can even ask for a net for the bedroom if you prefer to sleep insight a protected bed. Also, since it’s quite remote, the hotel offers a transfer which I would recommend to take as well since going there with regular uber drivers is not that easy.
Pokoje były sprzątane codziennie, a cały obiekt zadbany i schludny.
To doskonała przestrzeń do relaksu, wyciszenia i kontaktu z naturą.
- Nicolas (5/5): - Rapport qualité/prix beaucoup trop cher!
- David (6/5): - People
- Mustapha (10/5): Parfait - Accueil merveilleux.
- Pimienta (10/5): watching the sunrise, the beach at night, good privacity - excelent
- anne (9/5): Serene oasis to unwind - beautifully designed and kept hotel and warm welcome. - It’s really an oasis no to relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery from. A really beautifully built hotel in the form of bungalows very tastefully made and furnished and with beautiful gardens. Fernando takes great care and pride and was extremely welcoming. Would be a serene and calm place to explore Baru and the Rosario islands. Watching the clouds, kayaking and enjoying the mangroves was great. The national aviary nearby is great and worth a visit on the way or back. I really liked the hotel - and this is not their fault but the guys on jet skis do race past in the day time. The party’s on cholen island that others mentioned didn’t disturb me as it’s all over by 3 pm.
- Larry (10/5): - The best experience!
Mr. Sergio and Ms. Lucrecia made our stay truly unforgettable, and I will definitely be coming back to this wonderful hotel.
The food was outstanding, the environment was breathtaking, and the facilities were excellent.
I can’t wait to return soon!
- Lydie (10/5): - Tout.
- Antoine (1/5): Avoid this place, not a 4-stars and eorth your money - The couple that runs the place is very nice and helpfull. This hotel is not worth the money! There are plenty of other options in Barù in the same price range. Just avoid this place! They claim it’s a four-star hotel, but it's nowhere close. The room we got didn't have hot water or a TV. Even worse, a window wasn't completely closed, and there was a huge crack in the wall from floor to ceiling. Numerous other openings let mosquitos in. We left the day we arrived because this hotel is not suitable for families with young children. The hotel refused to reimburse us at all. One last point: You are in front of Cholon Beach, so you will hear music all afternoon.
Excelente servicio. La comida deliciosa.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was made exceptional by Lucrecia, Sergio & Paola.
They treat you like family and ensure everything is perfect for you, no ask is to much trouble for any of them. They don’t stop working throughout the day. The rooms need some basic tlc. New blinds (ours wouldn’t open which made the room constantly dark) and shower heads but the place is spotless.
- Paula (8/5): Very good -
- Ivan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aparna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Finley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aryana32 (10/5): Unplug in paradise - Our stay at Hotel Playa Scondida was the highlight of the trip my friends and I took to Colombia. I cannot say enough about how wonderful and attentive the staff were - a huge shoutout to Lucrecia, Sergio Fernando, and Paula who were all so helpful during our stay. The hotel feels like an oasis with a beautiful garden, small beach, and gorgeous pool surrounded by mangroves and greenery. The property is quite small, so there aren't a lot of other guests, and there are lots of places to find a quiet corner and relax. Breakfast every morning was delicious, excellent coffee, and the kitchen prepares fresh seafood and amazing drinks. Overall, it was a relaxing, peaceful place to spend a few days. There are a couple of things outside of the hotel's control worth being aware of:
- The drive to Baru is bumpy! It's a bit off the beaten path but absolutely worth the journey
- There is a beach club across the bay that gets very noisy with lots of boats playing music around midday. However, it's calm and quiet in the mornings and late afternoon/evenings.
- Brant (8/5): Very good -
- Maya (10/5): A little paradise! - I am writing this review from Playa Blanca Baru. One can'' t comprare. In Playa Scondida it was so quiet, so family-like... of course if one likes solitude. The couple who takes care of you- are very nice people, ready to fulfill every wish of yours. All staff were extremely nice and friendly. The place is perfect for 3 days. Thank you for everything.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay at Playa Scondida, right from the warm welcome we received from Sergio, Lucretia, Rosa Maria & Paula to when we left feeling part of the family. The food was delicious & we were so well looked after by Lucretia & Sergio. We enjoyed kayaking & swimming, relaxing in a hammock, sipping a mojito, meeting other visitors. What a marvellous spot! Nothing!
- Tc (10/5): Fantastic stay in a secluded hotel with delicious food - We had an amazing stay at this property - the staff are so lovely and extremely helpful and accommodating. It feels like an exclusive experience because it's secluded and not over-packed with guests. The food we had here was the best during our trip to Colombia, the chefs deserve all the praise for cooking up some delicious dishes. Cocktails were tasty - we felt so spoilt with the service we received. Lots of great nooks and secluded areas to read a book or lounge by the pool. I would highly recommend staying at this property if you are looking for a relaxing break. Thank you so much to the great team at Playa Scondida! Nothing, everything was wonderful!
- Mary (10/5): Perfection - This resort is beyond exceptional!! The attention to detail and absolute commitment to your every need is atbtge level of a Ritz. Beyond impressed
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything except the dirt road to get there The road getting there
- Ilana (7/5): Good for a 2-night stay! - Pros: Lucretia and Sergio - the property managers - are absolutely lovely and accommodating. The premises are quiet, tranquil, and a welcome respite from any hustle and bustle.
The snorkeling tour they recommended was a great experience - Cons:
This place is super isolated - which would be fine if they didn’t have you hostage to eat every single meal there. The menu is *very* limited and the prices are very high (oddly, much higher than the restaurant prices at the fancy resort next door, the Aura, which we happily discovered after being unable to face the Scondida menu after day 2.)
The beach they had their boat guy bring us to was kind of a nightmare. We were approached every 90 seconds by a different vendor - I had to play dead to deal with it. When I texted the owner, Sabine, to ask about other more tranquil beach options, I got no reply.
We were encouraged to talk a walk to the “Pueblo” of Baru and it was shockingly impoverished - not blaming them obviously - but no one suggested that it might not be a place to sit in a cafe for a drink. It seems there is a more central tourist-adapted area in Baru but no one in the hotel mentioned anything about how we’d get there which was not at all obvious when we arrived to the town, so we never saw it.
Overall I’d say 2 nights here would have been plenty. The Aura next door - sold out - would have been more our vibe, but given the Scondida prices which are fairly high (esp when you factor in the meals and drinks) I’m surprised they don’t try to capture some of that more upscale boutique hotel market. Honestly I think the owners of Scondida simply don’t have the magic touch to make the place all it could be. They’ve outsourced the place to the lovely caretaking team of Lucretia and Sergio, but they didn’t really understand that we’d want a quieter beach, or different foods each day. Felt kind of like a summer camp property. Also we felt badly because we ended up buying day passes to the Aura next door, which was awesome, but each time we came back to Scondida it was as if we’d personally disappointed Lucretia.
Rooms are basic - bugs get in and out - some are more tasteful with wood floors; others have tile and fluorescent lighting.
- Maria (10/5): Little paradise - The place is a luxury of calm and nature. Lucrecia and Sergio are a treasure and what makes the place so special. I have not found another place where they take care of you so good!!!. They feel like family. We had the place almost to ourselves and enjoyed the birds, swimming between mangroves and being spoiled big time between pina coladas, lulo juice and nice food!. I hope we will come back. We were all happy, happy!. My daughter enjoyed every single moment of it. They organize everything you need for you. My family will carry Lucrecia and Sergio and this nice little corner of the world in our heart.
- Raine (9/5): Superb -
- Kerry (10/5): Private oasis on Baru, amazing staff - The hotel was in a beautiful garden setting and very private. Lucretia and Sergio were so lovely and really looked after us and our host Fernando was very helpful. We loved our stay at Playa Scondida! Nil.
- Samantha (10/5): Unforgettable experience - I loved how the staff felt like family and were always attentive to us in every way N/a
- Hector (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Annunziato (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is nice, Caribbean style rooms, nice little pool,a small pier where you can sunbathe and a little piece of beach. The hotel is incredible peaceful as it only accommodate a small number of guests and therefore the attention of the staff is unbelievable. Lucrecia and Sergio especially are amazing and they will help with any requests you have with a kindness that you'll never see anywhere else.
The hotel also offers transportation service with a private boat so you can reach nearby tourist attraction( just ask and they will take you anywhere). Very satisfied and will probably visit again.
- Macarena (10/5): Amazing, beautiful, friendly place. I felt like I was home! - I loved staying here! Swimming and snorkeling in the mangrove and Playa Azul, colorful fish, warm water, beautiful native forest around the property, swimming pool, delicious food, friendly staff, actually, they are the friendliest staff I’ve ever come across. Sabine, don Sergio, and Lucrecia just want to make you feel at home and help out. Benjamin was nice and polite and took us to other beaches on the boat. Alexis and her sister are fantastic cooks and very nice, too. I loved everything about this place. I feel lucky I found them and I will return. I feel like I found my special place in the Caribbean! Nothing!! I loved everything! The room was comfortable, clean, the staff was amazing, the place is beautiful. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like.
- Liliana (8/5): Calm and refreshing stay, with excellent service. - - Tranquil, calm environment. Perfect for a couple of relaxed days, outside of the city landscape. Perfect plan for long weekends.
- The hotel facilities are within a lush, green, tropical garden. Although the exit to the sea is small, this combination creates a beautiful landscape.
- The staff provides a very special service to guests.
- Quality and taste of food is amazing and traditional. - The facilities could be improved. The bigger room could use some extra storage space and more room in the bathroom.
- The rooms were overall clean, but bear in mind there are insects that may spontaneously enter (understandable, as all facilities are immersed in gardens).
- The supply of products outside the menu is limited. Some drinks are provided, but others have to be ordered in advance and aren’t guaranteed.
- Cholón Beach lies just in front of the hotel facilities. Keep in mind this area is busy in the afternoon, as you might see yachts and hear music in the background.
- Casey (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent service and location! The couple that managed the property were wonderful and attended to every need.
- Vandenplas (10/5): Fantastic - An amazing place with amazing people that helped me with everything and made our stay beautiful. Thanx a lot! Recommended
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Harriet (10/5): A truly wonderful few days - Everything! As you arrive through a small wicker door , you are met by Sergio and his delightful wife Lucrecia . Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spotlessly clean , cotton sheets and a cosy blanket if needed and fluffy towels, and really lovely soap, shampoo in the bathroom. The beach and gardens were beautiful. I had an in house massage which was one of the best that I have ever had , and all the better for the fact that Jess set up in my room so super safe and relaxing .My husband and I had a wonderful stay , thanks to the whole team... xxx
n Nothing !
- Jan (9/5): Beautiful hotel nestled into a lush garden right on the water! The staff is extremely friendly - it was our perfect stop - - Great Location Right on the water
- lush green garden
- tranquility (around noon you might hear some music from playa Cholon, but that is not really bothering)
- delicious food
- extremely friendly staff
- free kayaks and private pier - some of the amenities (shower head, fan) could be renovated but that’s only a minor aspect
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional -
