• Cameo (10/5): Beautiful place and very welcoming! - The owner was so sweet and helpful! I highly recommend staying here! There is a beautiful place to watch the sunset and you will have stunning views for your stay! It is very close to the cloud forest! It was very private and secluded, a perfect place to relax! No complaints! It’s amazing!

• Nikhil (9/5): Well worth the stay - Very friendly owner and exceptional location with a view of the Gulf of Nicoya of the Pacific Ocean (and Nicoya Peninsula behind), especially during sunsets. You need a taxi or bus to go to the centre of Monteverde, but that is a small price to pay - there are two nice restaurants next to the Lodge as well. The owner will organise tours/trips/taxi for you upon request. No complaints - a lovely and restful stay.
• Beth (10/5): A quick one-night stay in a place with a comfy bed and peace and quiet. - There was no breakfast included. The owner was so helpful when we had a somewhat emergency situation with a student with us who has asthma. He drove one of the group leaders to the farmicia to buy the necessary spray for the student. He also drove several of us to an ATM to get catch that we needed. he was very kind! Nothing. Already planning to bring another class of college students to stay there next year.

• Marc (10/5): A true bella vista! - It truly has a bella vista, the view is amazing! Jose was welcoming. The place had everything promised! The shower was truly hot, first time in 3 weeks of travelling in CR. Walking distance to Monteverde and Santa-Elena and close to the sites i wanted to see! It was cold at night, the entrance door has fissures in it. My unit has a common wall with another one so it was noisy the first night.

I contacted him prior to my arrival since I was not 100% sure if the road conditions would allow my bus to be in time and therefore, if I would be in time for the designated check-in times. He told me not to worry about it. (In the end, I was on time.) He also offered booking of e.g. a guided night tour in Monteverde forest. I took him up on that offer and the tour was a great recommendation by him (I almost booked it twice since I liked it so much). Finally, the little veranda with a sunset view of the Gulf was a nice touch!

• Roie (9/5): Superb - José is such a nice person, always willing to help - he arranged for us all the attractions, and also the shuttle to the airport. Also the location of the hotel is very good, within a five-minute walk you have everything you need (coffee shop, restaurants and mini market). The view from the parking lot is amazing, it has one of the best sunsets you will ever see. The cleanliness of the room could be better, as could the cleanliness of the cutlery. The kitchen is a bit small and lacks storage space and some of the basic utensils.

An amazing view, especially at sunset, all the way to the ocean. A super host who not only was attentive to the details for a comfortable stay but also advised me and helped me organize the tours I wanted.

• Leslie (8/5): Pleasant respite - Lovely cottage with front porch sitting area and communal sheltered area overlooking the valley. Great views. Kitchenette complete with microwave, toaster, refrigerator, and basic utensils. The space is ideal for couples, friends, families given the kitchenette and outdoor space. It's a 10 minute walk to a supermarket. It was well worth the money and pretty well situated even for me, without a car (walked and hitched a ride to the Monteverde bosque) Wasn't clear that this was kitchenette/bring your own supplies. There is no coffee provided, so come with your own. I had to purchase some that I easily could have brought with me. Also, no breakfast, but Jose emailed me in advance to warn me that Booking erroneously shows breakfast included. The site also lists trails, but there aren't (but I wasn't expecting any)

If you tried to use more than one appliance at a time it tripped the breaker. Bucket under kitchen sink to catch leak. No dish towels (until we asked).

• Wendy (7/5): Nice family run lodge where we got to chat with the family. - Good breakfast serve by the owners sister. Lovely small family run lodge. They were very helpful and it was in a good location in the charming town of St. Helena. It got quite cold when we were there as it is up in the mountains and often rainy. There was no heat in the room and no portable heaters. It was ok under the covers but chilly otherwise. Room was very small but good value for the money.
• Christy (10/5): Wonderful! We'd love to come back and stay longer. - We had a great stay! Our cabin was very quiet and private, with a phenomenal view of the Nicoya Peninsula. The small pavilion out front is perfect for watching the sunset. It's a bit outside of town, but still within walking distance to a few very good restaurants. The kitchenette was small, but had everything we needed. The extra sink/closet was really helpful for spreading out a bit and storing luggage. Jose was a wonderful host, and within a few minutes of our arrival had two tours set up for us. The breakfast was very good. The location is also great for driving directly to Monteverdi or Curi Cancha. We'd love to come back! Can't think of anything!

• Nancy (8/5): Overall I would recommend this place. A couple of random things affected how we felt. - Very basic breakfast on Day 1. Better on Day 2. Staff are nice. Good parking and very accessible. Lovely view with lots of birds in the morning. The rooms are not terribly soundproof. It was a nice room but a little noisy. The room appeared very clean but perhaps it had not been used for a while. There were some little spiders in the bed. Wifi was good in the room but did not extend to the breakfast room making it difficult to plan the day.
• Kyle (9/5): A cabin with a view, and so much more. - Breakfast was great and you had options. The cook even got up early one morning so I could eat before my tour. All I had to do was ask and they helped me set up shuttles to my tours. At the last moment they even set me up with a night tour. The cabins were clean. The bed was comfortable. A bakery, connivence store and restaurants are within walking distance or a 2min. drive. There is also a spectacular view.

• Loreta (5/5): “Loud” name for the place, reality disappointing - Unfortunately place has no positive things. i can only mention lady who prepared breakfast she was very nice. These lodges need big updgrade and renewal, including breakfast they offer and if not, then price should be lowered significantly

• Marianna (10/5): Beautiful views and lovely stay - This was one of the best places i stayed in Costa Rica . The rooms were clean and very comfortable, hot water and an incredible view/sunset. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was great . Would definitely come back.

Breakfast ended at 8:30 which might be a bit early for some. Could have had a warning about the chances of power cuts - but helpful to have bedside lamps with batteries.

• Steven (9/5): Great stay at Bella Vista Lodge - The cabana was very nice and spacious with 2 double beds and 1 single bed. The shower area was nice and had a small kitchenette/dining area. Jose (the owner) was very nice and welcoming - he booked us a tour on the first day we arrived with no problems at all. In the morning, breakfast is cooked and served by Jose's sister, Roxana, and it was very nice with a good selection. I would definitely stay here again.
