Guest Reviews
- Manon (10/5): - Great host very welcoming!
- Karen (6/5): - The experience does not quite align with the concept of luxury glamping, as the property is currently undergoing renovations that detract from its initial appeal. While check-in was straightforward and the option to choose a dome was a thoughtful addition, the absence of a welcome pack—such as washing up liquid and cloth—was noticeable. Although the bed was spacious, the overall atmosphere lacked warmth and felt uninviting. In summary, the facility is in need of significant updates to enhance its appeal
- Garnett (10/5): - This was great experience in a glamping setting. The dome was comfortable and had all the required conveniences. The staff is excellent and caring. The property is great and the water views and activities are great.
- Robert (8/5): - Nice “glamping” experience. We had never done this kind of vacation but found it to be comfortable and easy
Stephane is a great host and in process of major upgrades to the geodesic domes. Probably will be even better in 2026!
- Jayne (6/5): Unique accommodation in a lovely local location - This is a unique place to stay, and set on a beautiful lake/calm water. The dome was great, 2 beds for the 4 of us, a great bathroom area, and another small area with a sink, kettle and some mugs. A fridge, or even communal fridge would have been a bonus, although we could hire a cool box with ice to help keep our food cool.
Kayaks and SUPs are free to hire which is great along with like jackets, a real plus.
Whilst there, they were working on building more pods, so not quite as peaceful as it could be with the work going on, but not a massive issue.
- Jacques (10/5): - Bel environnement, lit confortable,
- Uri Sevilla (10/5): Great experience - A very special and cool experience. We loved it and wish we had more time
- Renee B (6/5): Can you be just “whelmed”? - If you compare this to typical tent camping, it is a nice accommodation. If you are expecting a five star luxury glamping experience, this is probably not the property for you. We were happy to enjoy the camping amenities such as the fire pit that was near our tent. We were able to borrow lawn chairs and a hot dog roasting stick from the office which was nice.
We had expected a regular amount of towels comparable to a hotel room, which is not what we got, so you should probably bring your own if you’d like more than one quite small towel for showering. No bath mat is provided and the shower curtain is quite short which means water goes everywhere, so be careful not to slip and bringing extra towels will also help with that.
Bedding was minimalist and the bed itself was somewhat uncomfortable, but far superior to sleeping on a camping mattress or on the ground. A space heater and fan in the tent are nice to have and work well.
Most tents do not have any kind of view of the lake and some of the tents are quite close together. If you can get tent 3 where we stayed, it has a larger camp area and more privacy than some of the other sites we noticed.
The property has a lot of potential. While we did not get a chance to use them, there are kayaks and SUPs to use which is great. A few more small details (cotton bedding, more towels, bath mat, longer shower curtain) and this would be more comfortable.
- Mark (6/5): - We booked for one of the domes. It's pleasant, if cheaply furnished. The dome is heated with a space heater which makes is quite cosy. We booked for a lake view but didn't get one as it was almost completely blocked by trees when others had clear sight. Tiny towels are unusable, so take your own. Bed is comfy but has very odd bedding, certainly not cotton. We saw plenty of small wildlife such as squirrels and chipmunks and lots of jellyfish in the crystal clear lake. Sadly, the lawned area is covered in dog poo with no effort made to pick it up. Little thought has been given to the overall experience for the guest. Such a shame as it could be really beautiful with a bit more effort.
- Philip (8/5): - We visited over a wet and windy Thanksgiving weekend. The property offers glamping facilities in fascinating white dome tents with your own bathroom, shower and mini kitchen - plus heating.
We were very comfortable, slept well and enjoyed our stay. The only thing to beware of is making sure you find open dining facilities or bring your own food.
We found a restaurants nearby the first night - but they were closed the second - and the next nearest was 35mins away.
I shouldn’t really complain since it is in a remote area and we came for the beautiful scenery - it’s something I wish I knew - just to set expectations
- Jeffery (10/5): - Loved the peace and quiet. Easy to get to.
- Dawn (10/5): - Check-in was great! Stephane (co-owner with his wife) and their cute dog, Sydney, was there to greet us on our arrival. Catherine (Stephane's daughter) was lovely! She was very helpful with her advice. What a sweetheart! Stephane was very accommodating as he escorted us to our dome site and he helped us start our campfire because we hadn't done that before! We took the kayaks (no extra cost - included in our stay) out for a paddle in the morning and it was so beautiful and peaceful! Nice way to start your morning! Everyone is so friendly at Blue Bayou Resort and make you feel at home.
- Kara (10/5): - Friendly staff. Kayaking on the lake was Beautiful and fun.
- Sandy (8/5): - The equipment of the tent is getting on in years. The barbecue in front of the tent was no longer usable
- Eugenia (10/5): - Wonderful! If you like camping with all the conveniences this is the place to go. The view is spectacular. You can go kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, etc. It's all free! I just wanted to let you know that there are no extra charges. Best of all, you get privacy. It was great!
- Nicole (10/5): - Very good service with friendly staff and atmosphere, but make sure to bring a cooler, bbq, and other camping gear. Not many restaurants close.
- Sanket (4/5): - They have 2 queen bed dome but there is no door or curtain for washrom area which was really inconvinient if 4 adults sharing dome. Also door opens on washroom side so it will be an issue if someone changing in that area. If there is curtain or door for washroom, it will solve both the problems.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was a really cool experience to stay in the dome but I definitely did not find the place to be luxurious like it was advertised to be. It was a very bare minimum dome. There were only one towel per person, no towel to stand on after showering so that the floor didn’t get soaked. The bed was not comfy at all very hard and only one pillow per person. There were no dishes except two mugs in the dome, nothing to cook with outside and being at the top of the Cabot trail there was not much in the way of getting food either. There isn’t even a fridge to keep the food cold that we did take, thank god they sold ice to keep it cold. Also the owners have a dog but don’t follow their own rule of keeping dogs on leash. Their dog was intimidating our dog a few times when we were trying to take him out to use the washroom so we felt we couldn’t even have our dog outside with us when we had a fire one night.
- lily (10/5): - Really nice place
- Ning (10/5): - Friendly staff. Location close to local favorites, which are more beautiful than the skyline.
- Janice (10/5): - The property was awesome with views of the lake. Kayak and canoes are free to use also. The owners are amazing and very helpful about things to do in the area.
- Emilia (10/5): - The host was amazing and relaxed!
- Marsha (8/5): - Great "glamping" experience. This was a great location for exploring Cape Breton Island with easy access to the Cabot Trail. The owners are great, quick with help for any concerns.
- Olena (10/5): - The stay was very comfortable, Owner very attentive. Since we stayed there for 2 nights, we had the opportunity to kayak for free. When it started to rain a little, the owner gave us a canopy to hide from the rain when we had lunch or dinner. The holiday was wonderful
- Pamela (8/5): - Overall loved our stay. Had thought we would have view of water but only 2 domes did. Overall area could be picked up a bit. And the cabin we stayed in might need fans provided for future hot (global warming) days. The host was delightful.
- Juanita (10/5): - Loved our stay here while seeing the Cabot Trail. Host was super friendly and kind. He even dealt with a noisy cabin on our last night in a timely manner.
- Madhu (10/5): - It was beautiful. Really welcoming staff and beautiful place
- Pirooz (8/5): - It was a unique experience, different from everyday hotels. no intrnet so the kids had to talk to us.
- Kenneth (10/5): - This place is beautiful. If you are not in to full-on camping, this place is for you. Bring some plates, utensils, small cooler with a few supplies and you should be good to go. The owner was incredibly friendly, making us feel so welcome. He told us about some hidden gems like a beach and a trail in the area. The domes look beautiful at night. Serene area, no motor boats, we had the whole bay to ourselves. The water was great for swimming. Kids loved jumping off the dock. Our package included the kayaks and canoes, which was a huge plus.
- Danielle (6/5): - Tranquillité, Stéphane et sa conjointe sont très accueillants.
- nada (10/5): Glamorous camping - It was a very nice and relaxing experience. We loved being in the outdoors. Kayaking and Canoeing equipments were provided for free, which was amazing.
- Guillaume (10/5): - A big bubble in nature! There was a storms during the night and tu was awesome!!!
Clean place.
- Isabel (10/5): - Great weekend getaway! Perfect for couples. Beautiful spot!
- Joshua (8/5): Cabot trail - Great stay ! Domes were really nice and good location for doing the Cabot trail . A little pricey but overall really good . It is warm in the domes but cools off nicely at night . Couldn’t get hot water in the shower but that is okay . Would be nice to soap in the bathroom for guests as we didn’t bring our own so we went and bought some . Owner was helpful and nice.
- Patrick (10/5): - Such a great place to stay, plus the owner was nice and easy to talk to. The Cabot trail in general is just fabulous
- Kyle (10/5): - I really wanted to go camping but we work until late and it hard to set up a tent in the dark. There were a few glamping options but the pictures of this property caught our eye and pictures really don’t do it justice. The best sleep I’ve had in years! We caught some speckled from a local fishing hole then bbq on the charcoal grill in front of a camp fire. Totally amazing weekend. The owners Stephane and Shanshan are doing a great job and I look forward to seeing them again!!
- Lisa (4/5): Very Unimpressed - My husband and i stayed here in September and were extremely unimpressed. The owner was very friendly but the dome was very uncomfortable, the bed was very hard, tiny space heater, but the worst was it smelled like chemicals or maybe the concrete? It wasnt a cleaner smell like an industrial smell. There were many other places in cape breton i would chose instead if we could do it all over again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was fun because it was so unique. Sleeping in a dome. Now I can say I did it. But, it was way overpriced. It was cold, damp, and smelled weird. They did give us an extra heater when we asked for one which helped a little, but it was still too cold to shower. It’s primitive, not as bad as sleeping in a tent, but close. It’s a great idea, but still needs a lot of improvement. Definitely was not worth the price we paid.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful time at the Resort. Sat around a campfire with the camp owner Stefan and attracted 3 other couples. Shared music, jokes and firewood. Memorable time. Lovely place.
- Anonymous (6/5): - We were surprised at how many domes there were and how close they were to one another. It was expensive for what you got - ie had to rent boats on top of the nightly rate. We also had a harbour view dome which wasn’t really the case - there were signs of water through the trees but I would be leery to call it a harbour view. The male owner was very friendly and amenable - his female partner didn’t come across as being overly inviting.
- Nyrée (10/5): - The lake view from our dome was amazing. Unique accommodation in a stunning location.
- Michael (4/5): - The site is not what I expected . The roads were terrible and there was no grass but dirt . The domes were very hot during the day . Price was double what it should be .
- C.B (6/5): - The domes and tipis are a really cool idea, and I’m sure with time and completion of the construction on the property things will be better. We arrived early evening, and there was no clear check in space - the office was still under construction. Our dome was advertised as having a Harbor view, which it did not. They are rather close together as well. Our picnic table and fire pit were directly behind another unit, so we spoke in whispers all evening.
The beds are comfortable, but the 100% polyester sheets and blankets were disappointing. Concrete floors and no floor coverings(rugs or mats) meant tracking dirt in no matter how hard you tried to keep it clean.
Water seeps from the shower into the kitchen cubby, as the floor isn’t sloped quite right.
The owners are nice, and I hope they get things dialed in soon, I know they’ve done a lot of work. But 180 plus tax for polyester sheets isn’t going to do it for many. And paying for firewood is kind of ridiculous at that rate as well.
- Edmontonian (10/5): - Very beautiful environment, the tent was unique like igloo, all the tents are located by a lake and you can do Kayaking, watch beautiful sunset, very quiet area, we could have a camp fire, glamping but you have your own bathroom andower.
All of my family members had a great time and memory, I hope the quality of their job and service be as good as the time we were there.
- Alastair (10/5): Amazing Glamping Experience! - Wonderful Glamping Experience
