Guest Reviews
- Ross (10/5): Great small Farm Lodge able to offer personalised Tours of Island, Exceptional hosts - Small farm lodge a few mile distant fom Hanga Roa, peaceful with ocean views. Maria and Alvaro are exceptional hosts and Maria's personal approach to an 'exceptional' breakfasts put many a hotel to shame. You can forget about being hungry at lunchtime. As Alvaro is a registered island guide, the combination og guest and seeking tours worked well here as I am blind and was seeking a more personal approach to visiting the various sites. This was achieved fantastically, and I managed to visit all the main sites whilst days were altered to match the weather and my needs. Being able to stay longer on a site, miss busy peroiods on the most popular sites and a slower pace with the ability to ask more questions was fantastic (heard several other visitors to the island moan about thier rushed tours and that they felt they were on a 'processed' tourist route.
Although the farm is small and they are still building up this small lodge, it was more than adequate for my needs. Rather than go into Hanga Roa, I ate an evening meal in the lodge. There was an added bonus of 9 puppies on site - a filter that should be present on any farm or agro-tourismo filter on Booking.com. In summary Maria and Alvaro were exceptional hosts, went above and beyond to ensure I had a memorable time on this fascinating island. no real complaints
- Alessandra P (10/5): Alvaro and Maria's is the place to stay at! - Amazing atmosphere, you submerge yourself in local culture and hospitality.
Breakfast was fantastic and a hot shower with great pressure to wash away all the dust at the end of a long day exploring or by the beach.
Alvaro offers additional offers like transport or guided tours. Absolutely book everything with them and have a blast.
I would come back in a heartbeat!
- Olga (1/5): Been scammed and overcharged, shouted as well! - Unfortunately it was my worst experience on the Easter island and in Chile. At the end of my trip I been scammed, overcharged, shouted at and felt threatened.
First, Alvaro asked me to pay CPL 236.000 instead of 231.600 as it was on booking.com and then, to my surprise, he added CPL 60.000 for “the transport”. Never been mentioned before, that it would be extra charge. So to find out about it at the moment when you are about to leave was really uncomfortable. Then he got angry, started to shout at me and said that I must pay it all with additional 3,5% by card or cash in dollars with super low exchange rate (800 instead of 880 in the bank). I must mention that I also had two full days tours with him. I tried to contact customer support of booking at this moment and received the confirmation that 3,5% is illegal. Alvaro and his wife got mad at me, continued to shout and being a solo female traveler I felt very unsafe, uncomfortable and threatened. I wanted to call to booking.com about it but Alvaro’s wife got a phone out of my hands and forced me to go to the bank.
So they drove me to the city asked me to exchange dollars in the bank. Basically really pushed me at this point and I was really concerned my safety and my belongings. The waiting line was huge and I didn’t had that much time because of my flight. I asked for the invoice which will state 3,5% surcharge and he sent me a message that “his wife called to booking and booking know that all clients pay with cash”. I had a different information from booking customer support and asked Alvaro again for the invoice with 3,5%. He only sent me the normal invoice and suddenly said that booking.com informed his wife that I can pay a normal price by card! But then he got obsessed and desperate that I must pay 3,5% for the tours and transport costs to him. Very unprofessional attitude. At this point I was like ok, I prefer to end this asap.
- Jean Jacques (8/5): - L'accueil extraordinaire.

- Ewa (10/5): Wspaniale!!! Jak w domu u Rodziny 💞 - Dobrzy ludzie o ogromnych, otwartych sercach. Czuliśmy się przyjęci jak w domu. Naprawdę obfite i wspaniałe śniadanie, możliwość spróbowania doskonałego lokalnego jedzenia i spędzenia wyjątkowego czasu razem z Marią i Álvaro — najlepszymi gospodarzami!
- Rico (10/5): Lost in paradise - Maria and Alvaro, the cats and dogs. As family we felt each other welcome. You could rent a car and Maria is a master chef:) Honestly nothing, it is for us the perfect stay
- Truc (9/5): An unforgettable experience with a local family - From the time Alvaro picked me up at the airport to when both he and Maria dropped me off, they went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. The accommodation is simple but clean and pleasant. I highly recommend the 2-day tour with Alvaro, as he is a fountain of knowledge about the history and culture of Rapa Nui, and each day ends with Maria's delicious, home-cooked late lunch/early dinner.
- Boguslaw (6/5): Nice place out of the town but you need to like it. - What is most worth to mention the owners are very nice and friendly. You are actually a house guest.
What you have to realize you live under same roof as owners and use same bathroom, dining table, etc…
The house is small and there is little privacy.
The lodge is far from the town in a very quiet place, but same time far from any shops or restaurants.
The sea side is around 30 minutes walk but there is nothing except shore line you can enjoy.
Alvaro is a local guide and has a very good knowledge of the place and history. He tells interesting stories and organized tours in the way to avoid crowds in the tourist places. The price is apparently 145 USD/person for a day (7 hrs) tour with lunch/dinner in the lunch on return. We’re a bit surprised by the conditions we found. Score 9.3 should mean something, but reality was different except friendship of the owners.
Cleanliness, room conditions, terrace… leaves much to be desired.
Because the house is far away you have no choice but to ask for dinner in the lounge. It costs approximately 30 usd/person for one dish meal with salad and juice.
- Timothée (5/5): - The breakfast, and how nice the hosts were The price, the rooms, the location (very far from the city), and how the hosts try to take more and more money from you by proposing absolutely overpriced tours etc.
- Arnoud (10/5): Een ongelooflijke belevenis. Kortom: GEWELDIG!! Alles was prima
- Brandee (1/5): Made arrangements for early arrival at this location. Taxi dropped me off and no one was on property, feral cats 20+ ins - Nothing Everything
- Patricia (9/5): -
- McH (10/5): Super - Nádherné místo. Pan domácí je svělej člověk. Je zároveň průvodce. Využili jsme jeho služeb a opravdu není nic, na co bych si mohl stěžovat. Připadal jsem si jak dlouholetý rodinný přítel. Vše v naprostém pořádku. Neskutečná vstřícnost a vřelost.
- David (10/5): Good experience here~ - Maria and Alvaro are excellent host! I enjoyed talking to them and they showed traditional dance and made great dinner and breakfast. Also had tour with Alvaro at a cheaper price compared to the other tour companies~
- Vincent (8/5): Very good - Five nights at Maria and Alvaro's lodge. Maria is a very kind person and cooks incredible breakfast, the kind that last all day long, and never the same! Alavaro knows everything about the history of Rapa Nui, he guided me 2 days in the most amazing sites of the island. Very good memories! Nothing not appreciated just that as written on Booking the lodge is quite far from Hanga Roa. So I rent a mountain bike, mostly used for the 2 other full days to visit allowed sites (poike, terevaka,...). But beware of dogs... some don't like bicycles..!! And if you don't rent a bicycle (need to be quite sportive... like 50-60km per day) I recommend to rent a car or a scooter
- Luoqi (9/5): Wonderful stay on the island! - It’s such a lovely farm on the island! The view of the ocean from the window is gorgeous. Maria prepares really good food, best meals I had on the island! Alvaro is a licensed tourist guide, his knowledge of the island is definitely the highlight of the tour. Everything’s great
- Daniel (10/5): Amazing stay and authentic experience in the countryside of Rapa Nui - I had an amazing time and a real authentic experience at Maria and Alvaro’s lodge. The location is beautiful, out of the town of Hanga Roa and in the countryside and nature of Rapa Nui. The lodge is a very relaxed environment, it is like living with a Rapa Nui family - they are both very kind and helpful people, and can provide you with anything you need/take you in the car if you require it. Maria’s cooking is fantastic, she provides a great breakfast and she will cook you whatever you want, including delicious authentic Rapa Nui food for a small price. Alvaro is a certified tour guide and I had great fun doing 2 full day tours to see the main sites, at a very reasonable price (especially as it was a private tour). The tour also includes lunch from Maria so is very good value. They have a very friendly dog Tuki who was my tour guide for the first afternoon, escorting me all the way to the beach! Wonderful people in a beautiful location and I hope to return again some day - gracias Maria y Alvaro!
- Noémie (10/5): Very good experience! - I loved the experience. Maria and Alvaro are very kind and openminded, loving people. Maria cooked a few times for me and the food was delicious. I took tours with Alvaro and enjoyed every minute of it. He is very knowledgeable and patient and thus makes sure you will get the most of your stay in Rapa Nui. The view from my room was great! It's literally like being at home but on a very far away island. I can definitely recommend 100%.
- Rodica (10/5): Exceptional - Maria and Alvaro are very kind and helpfull people, the location has a beautifull view of the sea and is very comfortable. Maria is also a very good cook. Thank you
- Jørn (10/5): Exceptional - Alvaro and Maria were exceptional hosts. They made us feel at home as soon as we landed, and their five diamond breakfasts (and packed lunch) kept us full throughout the days we were there. Nothing.
