Guest Reviews
- Anne (10/5): Colin was a great host -
- Georgina (10/5): - Very hospitable host. Went out of his way to give us a nice experience. Great guy! It's on the hilly side of the town.
- Keith (10/5): Fabulous two nights in a prime pueblo blanco - Warmly welcomed by Colin who was available with plenty of recommendations and just having a 'blather' (his phrase!) was a pleasure. Olvera itself I've seen described as an Andalucian jewel. I can't disagree The bed was comfortable, the shower hot and the location ideal for exploring - being so close to Plaza Ayuntamiento (& Bar La Plaza) and Calle Calzada up to the castle & church. Food had at El Jardin (also handy should you fancy an alternative to Cruzcampo) & an exceptional meal on Thu at El Corral de la Pacheco (one of Colins' recommendations). Day trips made to Capilla del Arte (contact the artist himself Miguel to book), Setenil de las Bodegas (earlier or later better to avoid the coach tours) & Torre Alháquime (charming town on the Setenil road) Nothing to dislike about the property. The one thing I would say was dont trust Google opening times... there was a bar in Barrio la Viña that Google said was open. That was a fib, but the views more than made up for it
- Inmaculada (10/5): Acogedor - Amabilidad de Colín , la estancia muy limpia, la amplitud de la habitación todo en general excelente, lo recomiendo 100%
- Natascha (10/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful town - As per other reviews, like a mini penthouse with varied spaces available. Colin is genuinely committed to ensuring guest are well cared for and happy to give recommendations. I was a tad concerned about parking, lots of free available.
- Corinne (10/5): La Casa Jazmin was a wonderful place to stay in Olvera, and I can recommend it highly. - Our host was very friendly and helpful; our room was very clean and comfortable; and the location was excellent for visiting the castle and old town. Nothing. Everything was perfect.
- Andrea (10/5): Sensacional!!! - The host made the stay the best ever!!! The breakfast was amazing and the location was perfect for us!!! Liked everything!!!
- Kuchařová (10/5): Exceptional - Nice place with lovely spirit. Well equiped, perfectly clean. The owner is very kind and obliging. Everything was perfect
- Matthew (10/5): Colin is an absolute jem, the rooms are first rate. The experience is NEEDED!!! - Colin is the heart and soul of Jasmine House. Cleanliness is impeccable, location, amazing, and the welcome... a cold beer and an amazing chat with one of the world's nicest people... I've never experienced anything like it. Just... go... and... visit... this... amazing..... place....!!!! absolutely nothing could have been better.
- Giulia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hallstein (8/5): Very good - Colin is a good host. Difficult to find....
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (10/5): Perfect for a couple who like a quiet place to stay - Colin was a fabulous host, very helpful with advice on where to find things in town, ideas for places to visit etc. His house is beautiful and the apartment and courtyard was perfect for us. We would definitely recommend to others and we would personally stay again. Nothing.
- Vili23 (10/5): Exceptional - Colin is a splendid host, so sweet and kind, I wish I could spend more time talking to him. The house is cozy and comfortable, it's a traditional home in the historical center that Colin renovated with love and care. It is extremely clean and I loved Colin's attention to all the details to guarantee the best experience. I totally recommend it!
- Samuel (10/5): A True Oasis - After a long day of cycling, The Jasmine House was a true oasis. The room is far more spacious than I had expected, and the host is very welcoming and kind. It's also peaceful and quiet. I highly recommend it!
- Graham (10/5): Fabulous experience, great location, exceptional hospitality. - Location is terrific, just below the church and the castle (which offers spectacular 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape.
Colin (host) is a real genuine guy who will ensure your stay is thoroughly enjoyable - almost your own personal infotainment system too !!
House is a traditional Spanish family home that's had some remarkable upgrades and modernisation - the two main bathrooms could be straight out of a modern day showroom.
Located in a traditional Spanish village that is steeped in history. At almost the top of the hill you'll also be kept fit whilst your wandering around the local area.
A locally owned mini market is just across the street where it is possible to purchase a whole range of products, at local prices too. It was like stepping over the threshold into a land that inflation forgot...
All in all this place offers exceptional value for your £ money, 3 days wasn't enough for us to properly absorb the surroundings.. I sincerely hope we can get the chance to visit here again and stay a little longer next time.
- Colette (10/5): Colin is a top host who really cares! - What a lovely room, with added bonus of a private sitting room and en-suite facilities. A very traditional feel with a modern twist which worked so well. Colin thought of everything and provided a home from home atmosphere which we loved. Nothing! The house is great, with a lovely shady patio to enjoy as you please.
- Angel (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, easy to find parking.
Beautiful house, beautifully furnished, and with a really nice patio. Very comfortable bed.
Colin (the host) is incredibly sweet and attentive.
Great place to stay if you’re passing by Olvera!!
- Marijan (8/5): Very good - Close to the castle (must be visited).
The owner and his suggestions for tapas. Rather park your car in da the street 300 m away.
Owner is really Nice, but would be nicer if app. Is only mine during the stay.
- Sabina (9/5): Nowhere else will you feel as comfortable as you will at Colin's place. - The undeniable and unquestionable advantage of this place is its host - Colin. Nowhere else have we encountered such a warm and heartfelt welcome as in his home. He provided us with very detailed information not only about how this place operates and what rules we should follow but also recommended many interesting places to see both in the nearby area and throughout Andalusia. Breakfast was delicious, fresh, and sufficiently abundant. Additionally, the access to water, coffee, and tea throughout the entire stay was a plus. An apartment in an old building in Andalusia has its "quirks", which may seem strange to people from other parts of the world. But that's just how it is, and it must be accepted. I want to point out the lack of a window in the main bedroom (that's how buildings were constructed in the past) and the common practice in all the places we stayed in Andalusia - the necessity of disposing of paper in the trash bin rather than the toilet. These are things over which Colin, as a host, has no control and should not be held responsible for. However, it's worth mentioning them because they may seem unusual and unfamiliar to some.
- Irene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Top location in one of the prettiest (often missed?) of the Pueblo Blancos. Great stay. - Location? I don't think you could do any better in Olvera- At the top of the main street and right below the castle. As an added bonus there is even a small but well stocked food/ drink shop right opposite. Host lives on site and that made arrival easy. Very knowledgeable and helpful with travel ideas etc. This feels like a friendly place, great experience....
Be aware: This is a heritage building- if looking for 5star standard, better stay out of town. The host here is making 5 stars out of providing a stay in somewhere very special and friendly.... ?the weather?
- Uli (10/5): triple C - Colin Cairns cares …
Over the years, he lost his hairs.
Now retired: his second primavera,
he started a business in Olvera.
A nice house - the lovely breakfast is just right,
Books, flowers, candles at night …
The poet will understand.
A great accomodation - book with confidence!
- Baker (10/5): Exceptional - Colin has really thought everything through here, it’s a lovely property with a very welcoming host! Incredible value for money. Would definitely stay again if visiting Olvera. Perfect location and a stunning house
- David (9/5): Superb - A simple guest house but very comfortable near the church and castle. Very helpful Scottish host made so welcome we had use of the dining room with fridge, we were even offered a free beer. The bathroom was not in the room. But that was explained prior to booking.
- Eduardo (10/5): A highly recommendable B&B run by a great host - My wife and I spent a week at the Jasmine House in Olvera. It was a very enjoyable experience.
Colin helped us with our suitcases on our arrival, and then took us to our room and showed us around.
The bed was very, very comfortable (top notch mattress), and the room was very clean and quiet, which is exactly what we wanted! We had a private bath and a nice sitting room by the bedroom. Just across the bedroom was a dining room with a fridge at our disposal. All was squeaky clean.
There was no TV in the room, which we did not miss at all as we can watch all TDT channels on our tablet or laptop by streaming. There is WiFi in the B&B, with excellent connectivity.
There is also a nice indoor patio, where you can sit and relax.
The Jasmine House is very close to both the Olvera Church and castle, and across the B&B there is a supermarket.
The day we arrived we found parking about 50 m downhill from the Jasmine House. All other days we chose to park in Calle Mercado (about 200 meters away) as there is consistently more parking available.
A very recommendable B&B, which is run by a very pleasant host (thanks for all, Colin!). Can't think of anything
- Emma (10/5): A wonderful stay in Olvera, un rincón bonito de Andalucía! - I had such a great stay at The Jasmine House! Colin was a brilliant host, never obtrusive but really attentive, friendly and interesting to chat to with lots of local recommendations. The house was beautifully clean, in a central location, and had lots of unique touches and lovely artwork. Breakfast was really good too! Highly recommend.
- Glen (10/5): Friendly and caring host! - It was evident that Colin really made a great effort to make sure the guests have a wonderful stay, he really cares! Everything was great and we would not hesitate to visit again!
- Suzanne (10/5): Go and stay you won’t forget it - It was absolutely lovely - home from home …
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional Spanish house. Spotlessly clean.
Colin the owner was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Lovely double room and charming patio to relax in with a glass of wine or beer. I would highly recommend a stay here and will hopefully return someday.
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional - Colin is an exceptional host. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He even walked with us to be sure we could find dinner on an evening where many spots were closed.
- Robert (10/5): Colin, The Jasmine House & gorgeous Olvera: true gems that will stay in my heart forever! - Colin was a superb host! He went above and beyond to make sure I had the best experience at The Jasmine House and Olvera. He even offered me an upgrade to add to my comfort. I originally planned to stay one night but because I quickly felt right at home, I asked if I could stay an additional night. Colin is an interesting and insightful person, we got along great. Honestly, I fell in love with The Jasmine House and Olvera! I hope to return soon and I highly recommend this gem! There was not a single thing that I did not like.
- Gemma (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent stay at The Jasmine House. The host was very welcoming and went out of his way to accommodate me.
The house itself has everything you need. There is easy access to a shop just across the road and a fridge, microwave and kettle to store and prepare food.
The breakfast offering was delicious. Outstanding value for excellent quality.
Like most traditional properties there is no AC but the fans and mosquito nets provide a very good breeze.
- Isaura (9/5): Amazing accommodation and very friendly & helpful owner - Wonderful accommodation and Colin was very friendly and helpful! The house and room were much bigger, more beautiful and nicer than we expected. Very close to (or even in) the center. We unfortunately only stayed one night, but would've loved staying here longer. The bed was a bit short for my 1.93m tall partner. I, however (1.63m tall ;)), had nothing to complain.
Parking here can be tricky - especially when you're there during Semana Santa like us. Nothing Colin can do about of course, but something worth knowing beforehand.
- Francisco (10/5): Amazing!! - Colin is a phenomenal host!!
Everything perfect, super quiet room, no noises at night!!
Coming back again!!
