Guest Reviews
- Jamie (10/5): Awesome property in San Cristobal on quiet street. Only a short walk to the main tourist area - We really enjoyed our stay here. The property is unique with a lot of art influences in the decor. The owners live on site and are available with any questions you have. The staff was super friendly and helpful too. It was very clean and well kept, our room was a larger option that they have and was really more of a full sized apartment with a full kitchen, living room and dining area. The bed was clean and comfortable, the air conditioning and WiFi worked well and there was tons of closet space to stay organized with all of our clothes while we stayed. It was on a quiet street and was only about a 5 minute walk to the main street with all of the stores and restaurants. There's also a pretty well stocked grocery store right across the street. Nothing at all. I would recommend this place to anyone who asked.
- Agata_S (8/5): Blisko miasta i atrakcji. - Hotel z fajnym basenem, blisko miasta. Pokój duży, łazienka ok. Śniadania mogłyby byc z lepszym wyborem.
- Byron (9/5): -
- Hajnalka (8/5): Unique, Artsy Stay with Friendly Service in the Galápagos - We stayed at Hotel Katarma for four nights, and then returned for one additional night later in our trip. The hotel has a really unique character, with artsy decorations that give it a distinct personality.
The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable. During our first stay, we had a triple room that included a fridge, which was convenient. For the extra night, we stayed in a larger room for four people; it was spacious enough, though it didn’t have a fridge like the first one.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Overall, it’s a good option if you’re looking for something simple, clean, and a bit more unique in atmosphere.
The breakfast was ok. I'd suggest to add some typical local food choices, such as local cheese, some cold cuts, tostones, bolon. The lounge chairs by the pool were all broken
- Lisa (10/5): Our stay was like being in a work of art but also like a welcoming home. - Gorgeous, artful, spotless and quiet. A spacious rooftop for drying cloths was extra convenient. The staff were very very friendly, accommodating, helpful and attentive but also relaxed. They made us feel welcome and comfortable. There was nothing that I didn’t like but would have loved a fridge in the room for cold drinks

- Remi (9/5): -
- Laura (7/5): - Cute pool, funky decor, 5 mins walk from airport and 2 mins to beach Breakfast was very simple but fresh
- Antonius (9/5): Mooie Gaudi stijl, goede ligging - Kamers zeer goed Ontbijt wat karig. Weinig broodbeleg
- daisy (7/5): Okay but not great - Location and pool are nice but the rooms are very noisy and beds like rocks
- Katie Rose (10/5): -
- Aaron (8/5): -
- Steve (8/5): Very happy with our stay - Location Pool Sun beds need replacing
- Siv Halvorsen (10/5): -
- Polina (10/5): -
- Vlastimil (9/5): - Quiet street near the waterfront with lots of restaurants, shops. Good breakfast and refreshing pool. Very nice exteriors. If you don't need staff running around and are independent, this is the place for you.
A nice beach is Puerto Chino - swimming and nature (30 USD one way, and if you agree with the driver, he will pick you up a few hours later). La Loberia beach is very close, great for animal watching, swimming and seeing turtles and sea lions. At low tide there are a lot of rocks so it's not great for frolicking in the waves.
- L William (9/5): - The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and you could get eggs cooked to order. The mosaic tiling all around the property was very cool. The rooms were spacious and clean. The location was great, with a short walk to the main road where the shops and restaurants were located. There was a grocery store right across the street. We had an unusual, personal situation happen while we were there and the staff was very understanding and accommodating and offered us a late check out when we had to change our ferry time from 7am to 3pm.
- Alexander (7/5): - It's no option to pay with credit card, only cash or PayPal transfer. Swimming pool not really useful, more for decoration.
- Brigitta (9/5): -
- Lee (7/5): Don’t be fooled by the lovely exterior - Lovely exterior Drabbest interior of a room, old furniture, old bathroom fixtures, thinnest sheet & no comforter, non existent lighting, soap the size of a thumbnail
- kim (10/5): - Beautiful mosaics. Breakfast was great. Beds were comfortable. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Will return!
- Rose (9/5): Close walk to restaurants, good location. Lovely decor! Exceptional staff. - Two of the staff Emily and Louie went above and beyond to meet every need we had. They were so pleasant and welcoming. They really made the start exceptional for us. Breakfast by the pool was very good!
- Adriana (10/5): Bom - Do custo-beneficio Quarto muito mal iluminado. Café da manhã bem fraco.
- Jill65 (9/5): Lovely vibe - Love the hotel vibe and the staff were very friendly and helpful It would be useful to have a hair dryer.
- Paulina (10/5): -
- erin (8/5): - Lovely, decorative hotel with friendly staff and great location. Breakfast was nice but quite basic and limited options.
- Caroline (9/5): - Great location and loved the hotel itself. Staff was so nice and welcoming.
- Heiko (10/5): -
- Elana (9/5): -
- Krzysztof (8/5): Good stay for two nights due to 360 tour -
- Steven (3/5): Clean but threadbare. - It's clean and the mosaic artwork is lovely. We didn't expect much, but this is a 1 1/2 star hotel, not a 3. One tiny bar of soap. One tiny packet of shampoo. The blanket was a piece of cloth that looked like a remnant. If you want a hair dryer, they'll rent you one for 20 dollars. Just a very cheap place in all aspects. And the mattresses were very hard and impossible to sleep on.
- Amalie (10/5): -
- gilles (8/5): A very pleasant stay - The place was great, the breakfast lovely, and the staff very friendly. The Wifi was weak in the room, and I needed it for some work and checking-in to my flights.
- Amartinezac (8/5): Very good -
- Anja (7/5): Good -
- Dave (10/5): We highly recommend anyone to stay at least for one night so they can see the exquisite artwork. - The place was amazing. The staff was friendly and we could see they were delighted to be there and made our stay relaxing. We were treated by the artist that created all the magnificent artwork at the hotel but also that treated us at the airport that we fell in love with. David Basantes is an artist and has inspired his son to follow in his footprints also. He was delightful to meet and to talk to. We couldn’t stay longer.
- Emily (8/5): Very good -
- Tracy (10/5): Lovely hotel, great location - The location was perfect. 5 minute walk to the sea lion beach, restaurants and playgrounds. They cleaned our room every day and provided new towels. We also loved all the storage in the room. The pool was a nice bonus, my kids loved it. They allowed us an early check in because our room was ready and we had arrived early, super accommodating. There was nothing we did not like, breakfast hours extended would have been nice, but not a deal breaker by any means.
- Guillermo (10/5): Very good place to wait and rest in transit from sailing Galapagos. - Very good place to rest after long trip and after a cruise. Very clean, safe, and it was what is was offered. A bargain.
- Segot (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damian (9/5): Was a very nice accommodation for the 3 nights we spent there and close (5-10min) to the promenade. - Good breakfast, even possible before 6am if there was a tour/day trip/early check-out planned. Calm atmosphere and nice staff.
- Yacob (8/5): Very good - Location, stuff
Big room Toilet in the room, no doors
No air conditioning in the living room
- Margaret (10/5): Perfect Location, Artistic Decor, and Top Rated Staff - Traveling as a family of four plus two friends (6 in total), we LOVED this hotel! The location was walking distance to everything, the staff was wonderful, and the included breakfast was delicious. Rooms were immaculate and they put us in 3 rooms right next to each other. There was plenty of space and privacy. Loved the artistic decor and the pool was also very relaxing. Highly recommend!
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justin (10/5): Beautifully designed boutique hotel in a good location - Very clean, spacious, peaceful, and relaxing
- Jane (9/5): Perfect location and super helpful staff - We were met by the very friendly staff on our arrival who gave us some great information about what to do in the Island. We had already booked our day trip to Espanola but appreciated the tips on beaches. The location was perfect, just 10 mins to the pier in one direction and 10 mins to airport in the other. They also did a big bag of washing for us in Christmas Day for only $5 (returned by the afternoon) - great service! It’s was perfect for our stay but a kettle and hairdryer in the room would have been good.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (1/5): No hot water for showers. - Nice location, central to restaurants, and close to airport No hot water for showers. Checked both in evening and morning and no hot water, was about 18 degrees C outside, so cold showers were not enjoyable.
- Amile (8/5): Beautiful and artsy place, highly recommended! - Such an artsy place! We really loved the decor, the pool layout and the sauna (with my favorite hammerhead sculpture). The room was big (like a mini apartment!), the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good despite not being served early enough. Breakfast starts too late, we only had it once. All tours and ferries leave by seven, it would be nice to go with a full stomach.
- Carrie (9/5): Superb -
- Matt (9/5): I’d definitely recommend it for its unique vibe and artistic charm—a fantastic base for exploring - Eco Hotel Katarma is a stunning eco-friendly oasis in the Galápagos, featuring incredible mosaics and beautiful paintings that give the entire space a vibrant, artistic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi didn’t work in my room, and the vegan breakfast was lacking despite me pre-warning them when I booked, though they did their best to remedy it at the time.
- Amanda (9/5): Excellent stay! - The room was great, excellent breakfast, very friendly staff. Convenient location, but just off the main streets so still quiet.
- Chen (10/5): Great family hotel - Unique hotel with lots art details love the location and the pool
- Bridget (10/5): Great stay at BEAUTIFUL hotel owned by the sweetest family! - Location was great. Family-owned and they were so friendly. Great, freak breakfast. Very helpful. The art was incredible and the hotel was just really visually enjoyable. Cash only, which was fine but I wish I knew ahead of time.
- Olivier (8/5): Very good - The environment and the architecture
Staff welcoming Room was rustic
Breakfast was basic
- Rafael (3/5): Too expensive for what it offers - It's a nice design, inspired in Dali. Peculiar. Well, on arrival, hotel was closed and we had to guess how to open the gate. I believe maybe they are with low movement and shortage of staff. After 5-10 minutes, someone appeared to let us checkin. Since we had stayed in the hotel next to this one, I really found the price high. And no value for money. The room had no refrigerator.
But, to be honest, the place is ok, clean, comfortable. The problem are the rates: too pricy. Hotel Los Algarrobos, two blocks from this one, is about the same and half the price.
- Norma (7/5): Good -
- Olesya (9/5): Very nice modern room/apartments, recently built. - The rooms were very modern and comfy, very nice bathrooms and good mattresses. There are construction sites in front and to the side but the island is pretty much covered with them and I wasn’t able to find any better options with same level of comfort.
- Lourdes (8/5): We had a good time - Good Cold pool
- Madeleine (4/5): Disappointing -
- Hanac (9/5): Wonderful Hotel - Great location, so close to restaurants, shops, the airport and loads of seals!! The staff are so lovely. The whole place was clean and spacious. The breakfast is fab. While it didn't bother me, the room was a little dated. Some of the windows didn't have much cover for privacy
- Maureen (10/5): Beautiful property, friendly staff, great location - The whole property is a piece of art. We stayed in the triple room, and it was breezy and clean. The staff were delightful and helpful every step of the way. The beds only had a thin sheet on them, but that seems to be the norm in Ecuador.
- Vivi (7/5): Simple but eniugh - The common area us very nice and clean. The decoration is very special. It's a few minutes from the center. The staff is nice.
They do your laundry for a very good price. The rooms are very simple, transparent curtains let the sun get into the room early in the morning, the beds are old and mattres very thin. Not enough towels and higienics products (shampo/savon/lotion).
- Grace (10/5): Gorgeous hotel with art everywhere you look! - This place is an absolute work of art. I loved my stay here so much. The location is walking-distance to everything, and the art is amazing. I was mesmerized by the mosaic around the building, and the pool. I felt like this place was actually underpriced for how amazing it was. (Hotel staff - if you see this - I'd love to purchase some art if possible!)
- Mike (8/5): Very good - We could get into our room early! quirky set up with colourful decor in the reception and outdoor areas. location great. Very nice breakfast. Nothing
- Janice (7/5): Good - Location is good. Walking distance to malecon. Very pretty mosaics in all public areas of hotel.
Good breakfast. Rooms are basic and need refurbishing. There was lots of water on the floor of our room. The attendant mopped it up, but it was a continual problem. Not enough staff to accommodate guests. There was one very nice staff member who was doing his best to do "everything".
- Louisa (8/5): Unique stay - Lovely pool to cool off in and nice big room with air con and a fan. Nice breakfast and very cool place with ahh the mosaic sculptures and interesting artwork! Bed was a bit uncomfortable. We had to leave at 6am and so missed breakfast- would face been nice to be able to take a few rolls with us.
- Melinda (10/5): Exceptional - Luis was amazing. He provided excellent service with a smile! He’s a true gem.
- Dave (6/5): Pleasant -
- Decebal (9/5): Superb -
- Mikhail (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): A great experience at hotel Katarma - This is one of the best hotels in San Cristobal. Reasonably priced, very good value.
- Renan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Koen (8/5): Very good - Perfect beautifull hotel, good location, very kind and helpful staff. Internet, WiFi operation was really a problem!
Need invest urgently in this issue!!
- Katie (9/5): Superb -
- Mireya (10/5): Exceptional - Es confortable y su decoración exterior
- Da (10/5): Exceptional - The location is unique, 1 minute walking distance to a supermarket, you can find most necessary items there. 5 minutes walk to the seaside where there are many restaurants and cafes. The hotel design is amazing, it’s not only a hotel but an art. The boss and his staff are very friendly.
The room is very big with many windows.
- Gabriela (10/5): super experiencia - Excellente hotel, para recomendar.
- Erica (9/5): Superb - I was immediately smitten when I saw the 3D mosaic work on the outside of the building as well as the beautiful colors of the hotel. Once I stepped into the courtyard I couldn't stop looking around--everywhere my eyes landed was art! It is a gorgeous hotel in all ways. The staff, the room, the comfort, the breakfast. I am so pleased to have stayed at Hotel Katarma, my only disappointment being that I was only there overnight.
- Gila (8/5): Lovely artsy hotel - Beautiful art everywhere
- Vinicio (5/5): Ok - Exteriores Habitaciones
- Suchet (6/5): Overall not too bad. Basic comforts for sure. Could be better for the price. - Liked the location, close to the pier and restaurants.
Loved the mosaic work all over. Very artistic.
Cleanliness.
Shower was great. Amenities in the room were not quite adequate. Towels were old , bar soaps were size of a coat button, AC and light lamps were old.
Owner did not offer hot made to order breakfast earlier than usual time when we had to leave early to catch the ferry. Most tours from the Island and the ferry start early so I don’t understand why he does not offer earlier breakfast.
- Thomas (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Room and pool was nice, the staff were friendly. Quiet location but not too far from the Malecon. The breakfast was extremely basic and could definitely be improved.
- Joni (5/5): Not a 4 star hotel. Rooms are basic, thin frayed towels and crappy pillows. Far away from town and no views of water. - Outside & lobby mosaic and art. Good water pressure. Not 4 star. Thin, frayed towels, no washcloths, plastic shower curtain, various levels in room(ripe for injuries), AC got part of the room really cold (and you only get a sheet) while the other part of the room wasn’t in main shot of AC, hospitality lacking (staff is nice, but no help or recommendations or you can’t find anyone at 8:00pm), crappy pillows, crappy soap.
- Pierrick (8/5): Very good -
- Ken (8/5): Beautiful Galapagos Vacation - Our suite was very nice and had everything we needed or wanted. The only problem we had was a minor one since we were going on tours and exploring the town but we were never able to get the television to work during our stay.
- Mat (10/5): Perfect location and beautiful work of art - The hotel is great, and we had an amazing stay. It's a hotel/art gallery and all the work done by the owner and son. The staff is helpful and welcoming. The room was very nice and the hotel is safe and clean. Hot water in the bathroom. The breakfast was perfect. The pool was refreshing. Convenient location with easy access to everything. We walked everywhere, and never had any trouble getting around. There wasn't a safe in the room.
- Kevin (10/5): Fantastic location and a relaxed atmosphere at this friendly hotel - Fantastic location close to everything. Lovely breakfast each morning and friendly staff. Really uniquely decorated hotel with creative mosaic artworks. Very generous sized apartments also, so felt really spacious. Would definitely recommend.
- Reza (4/5): Disappointing - The room was big and clean. The internet is awful you cannot really use it.
The breakfast is awful is like nothing.
You have to pay in cash at the reception!
In total is too expensive for this hotel.
- Erik (9/5): Gaudí in Galapagos - The hotel design is a mixture of Gaudí and Dali. Very colourfull and pleasant atmosphere. Supermarket and restaurants within 75 meter. Breakfast is decent with fruit ergs and cereals. pool is just big enough to relax and have a swim The rooms are fairly basic. Everythings works ( airco, refridgerator) but beds are small and the atmosphere in the room is a bit grey and duel (no painting or picture insiders the room). The hotel is a few minutes walk away from the touristic town center
