Guest Reviews
- ELODIE (8/5): -
- Sandro (9/5): - Struttura molto tipica. Bellissima posizione.
- Bruce (10/5): Classy, elegant and authentic - The hotel has a wonderful feel, full of history. It's an old Greek home. The rooms are very elegant and comfortable, amazing finishes, looked recently refurbished. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, in a beautiful setting. We had a delicious dinner there with many locals which is a good sign. The lady at reception was very personal, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding, the best we had in our three weeks in Turkey. Location was perfect, overlooking the Golden Horn, many Istanbul sights walkable. Nothing
- El Cantante (10/5): Perfeito para Istambul - Excelente localização e funcionários
- Dimitris (10/5): GREAT PLACE, NO ELEVATOR WITH PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. - The breakfast was great so were the people. The restaurant was clean and great food great service. Barba Vasili is the name of the restaurant. The location for the Greek community is excellent walk 2 mins to Greek Ecumenical St. George church. It is not that we did not like, but for people with disabilities you have to emphasize that that there in no elevator.
And the place has NOTHING to do with the fact that the "TAXIS" ARE A RIP OFF. TAKE LIC PLATE AND TAXI COMPANY. THEY SHOW YOU ONE THING AND YOU COME HOME AND IT MIGHT BE 3 TIMES AND EVEN MORE CHARGED TO YOUR BANK. AND THE GRAND SCEME THE CREDID CARD MACHINE DOES NOT WORK OR INTERNET NOT WORKING ONLY CASH. YOU SHOULD CALL THE POLICE.....ADVICE PAY ONLY CASH FOR TAKSI/TAXIS IN TURKEY.... COME TO THE ROOM ONLY TO FIND OUT AFTER YOU PAY THEM CASH, THEY CHARGE YOUR BANK TO. OR THE FRAUD DEPART. SENDS YOU AN ALERT. NOW YOUR CARD IS BLOCKED. WE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO TOLD US THE SAME THING. AND WE TURKEYS ECONOMY IT IS WORST. THE AIRPORT SERVICES ARE GREAT... Thank You D.L.
- CMichaelHoff (9/5): Small room, big breakfast, nice staff. - The breakfast was awesome. The variety and quality of the food was excellent. The view of the river from the balcony was really nice. The availability of plugs was perfect for recharging our devices. The room temperature was nice and we could control it if we needed to up or down. Loved the extra blankets in the closet to throw on top to sleep warmly. The Mattress was super comfortable. The proximity to convenient public transport right outside the front door was nice. The bathroom arrangement was tight but doable. Very small sink area, with no place to put things. The shower fixture was broken, so we had to hold the wand in our hand to rinse off. They were apologetic, so, I am sure it will be fixed for the next guests. The room was tight, with very little room to talk around the bed and spread out our things. The windows were thin and the room faced a busy street, so we listened to traffic noise as we drifted off to sleep, and then were woken by the call to prayers at 5 AM in the morning.
- Amalia (9/5): - The hotel was excellent, the location unique! The owner, Semiha, was extremely kind, willing, helpful. The breakfast is rich, with a wide variety of local products. We will definitely stay at the same hotel again when we visit Istanbul again. Thank you! The only problem for me was the stairs, but it was a minor problem compared to the advantages of the hotel.
- anastasios (10/5): - We spent two lovely nights at the hotel and loved every moment. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the location was perfect for those who want to visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate. We're definitely coming back!
- Jorge (10/5): - Very good Hotel. Nice personal.
- Abdurahmanov (10/5): -
- Eleonora (10/5): -
- Saiful (10/5): - I had a lovely stay at Hotel Turkey during my work visit to Kadir Has University. The staff, especially the women at the front desk, were very kind and helpful, even assisting me with arranging a taxi to the airport. Dinner was amazing, and the breakfast was light, fresh, and well prepared. The hotel has a charming old-style aesthetic that I really enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.

- James (10/5): Just as the advertisement in Booking. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good restaurant. Good breakfast. Right near the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate. It is not a luxury hotel but very pleasant and adequate.
- Dimitrios (9/5): -
- Jurate (10/5): - Labai stilingas, gražus viešbutis, šiltas, draugiškas personalas. Niekas
- Nikola (10/5): -
- Jenine (8/5): Highly recommend this place and keen o stay on my next visit to Istanbul! - Excellent location - easy to use the trams to get to tourist destinations.
Breakfast each day was fresh and delicious traditional Turkish style.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Also enjoyed some evening meals in the restaurant.
Great value for money! n/a
- Richard (10/5): I look forward to returning my next visit. - Quiet, comfortable, kind staff, made me feel like a special guest. The atmosphere matched old Istanbul.
- Sofya (8/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): This is my second stay and I hope to come back again soon. - I liked the location. The neighborhood is safe and has many historic sites and transportation is accessible for the metro and ferry. I liked everything about the property, especially the kind and attentive staff.
- Mariana Gabriela (10/5): Superb - Atmosfera, amabilitatea personalului și amplasarea
- Anne (10/5): Just perfect. Balat itself very pretty place, but also great point for getting to nearby attractions - Wonderful staff, couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast just lovely, had meal in hotel which was just great, lovely food and very nice wine selection. Bierol and Angel you know who you are. Nothing
- Elena (10/5): We stayed in this lovely family-run hotel with my sister for four days, while our friends stayed in nearby apartments. T - Everything
- Branko (9/5): - Spotlessly clean and distinctive rather than a standard hotel, with a 1930s vibe. Conveniently close to the T5 tram station. The bed was comfortable and the on-site restaurant is very good. Fener and Balat cafés and restaurants are within a five-minute walk. We didn’t mind that the hotel does not have an elevator, although some guests might find it inconvenient.
- Sharon L (9/5): - Great location looking out to the Golden Horn, close to cafe's and restaurants plus the colourful houses. Public transport close by. Very vintage, which I loved and why I chose.. Mini fridge and coffee and tea making facilities. Breakfast spread is similar to all Turkish breakfasts. The reception person was very friendly and helpful.
- Liviu Raicea (10/5): - Totul + gazdele de nota 10 Nimic de comentat

Aircon working great especially in the summer heat.
Hotel manager was most welcoming and accommodating.
All round great experience. No elevator and our room was on the 3rd floor.

- Grit (10/5): Exceptional - I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Troya Balat in Istanbul.
The owner, Samiha, was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay (6 nights). Her warm hospitality and personal touch made me feel right at home.
As a boutique hotel, Troya Balat offers a unique and charming atmosphere that sets it apart from larger chain hotels. The decor is stylish and cozy, making it a delightful place to stay.
The breakfast selection was fantastic, offering a wide variety of delicious options.
The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Istanbul. It's situated in the vibrant Balat neighborhood, with easy access to public transportation.
Overall, Hotel Troya Balat is a gem in Istanbul. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and friendly boutique hotel experience.
- Arti57 (9/5): Very nice renovated old Greek building - Historical building renovated perfectly. Stairs are a bit steep for elder people and for those who have heavy luggages.
- Katherin (10/5): Exceptional - charming
- James (9/5): Excellent staff! - Excellent stay at this boutique hotel, Awesome breakfast. Small room with little space to store clothes.
- Zainab (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonny (10/5): A lovely, historical house in an excellent location - I really enjoyed my stay at the Troya Balat hOTEL - I felt like I was staying in a large, family house. TheTurkish family who own and work at the hotel were so friendly and the location is excellent - right on Fenner and Balat with lots of artisan coffee cafes! Nearby, is the tram and right opposite are the waters of the Golden Horn.
I'm looking forward to returning soon. It was all good!
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Maureen (10/5): Lovely older hotel in great location - We had a short overnight at this special older hotel . No elevator and beautiful curved staircases. Our suite faced the Bosphorus and although the bathroom is small it was very adequate.
Staff is lovely and very accommodating.
Good Turkish breakfast . Location is excellent .
- Lisa (9/5): A great little hotel in a colourful neighbourhood. - The room was well appointed and lovely. It was very close to the heart of Balat (which I adored), the Bosphorus and the tram station….
and the staff were extremely kind, interesting and proud of their district. Especially Seminha!
Love her!
Oh!
And the water pressure of the shower was surprisingly powerful! We tried to eat in the restaurant, but we’re too late as the kitchen started closing up at 9:30. It was more our fault, though,as we came late.
The wifi was not accessible (an issue that they were trying hard yo fix).
- Ceri (10/5): Exceptional -

We had a suite with a balcony overlooking The Golden Horn. The traffic noise is not a problem, double grazing and heavy curtains,we slept well. The restaurant has supurb food and the buffet breakfast is the best I have encountered in all my travels.

- Biljana (10/5): Exceptional - A Boutique bliss in the Golden Horn
This hotel is truly exceptional. Nestled in a prime location, it boasts stunning views of the Golden Horn and is just a short walk from tram and bus lines. The retro-inspired décor, both in the building and its interiors, is a delightful touch, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The hotel's impeccable hygiene and cozy breakfast area create a welcoming atmosphere. The friendly and accommodating owners add to the overall charm. Without a doubt, this hotel is a fantastic choice and comes highly recommended.
- Natalia (10/5): I will definitely recommend my friends to stay in this cosy hotel - Very good location. Beautiful view from the window. Nice and hospitable personnel 🌹 Stairs, but it’s okay. They help with luggage
- Elaine (8/5): Very good - Cozy small hotel; good breakfast; helpful staff. Restaurant downstairs very busy on weekends so noise carries to the rooms.
- Teresa (8/5): lovely hotel in a great area of istanbul - very nice comfortable stay in a lovely neighbourhood of Istanbul. the rooms were very charming with a roustic decor. staff was friendly. the area is absolutely lovely no major dislikes, but maybe the hotel should put a sign on its front door (facing the river) to make checking in at night a little less confusing. it's a dark road and when I arrived to the front door it appeared to be a separate restaurant not attached to the hotel. I therefore had to walk around the block to reach the back entrance which was a bit scary alone in the dark.
- Kirill (10/5): Exceptional - Authentic Greek style room, cute neighborhood
- Lorella (10/5): Amazing Hotel - If you want to live the real Istanbul don’t miss this place! Traditional style with all comfort, the food is delicious and the staff is very welcoming and kind.
The position is very good, you can easily reach every part of the city with the public transportation.
- Jovan (8/5): Very good - Staff extremely friendly and helpful - you feel that you are visiting friends in their house. Room with Old World charm. Nice in-house restaurant. Excellent location to walk to nearby Ecumenical Patriarchate (and numerous other Orthodox Christian heritage sites) and Balat neighborhood (coloured houses). Very good value for money. No elevator in the hotel. Road reconstruction in front of the hotel.
- Pamela (10/5): The staff were attentive and helpful. The breakfast was lavish, and delicious. - The location is perfect. A few steps away are both the metro and the ferry. There is a park across the street with benches to watch the birds, the people and the Bosphorous. Everything of interest in Balat is within easy walking distance. You can get anywhere in İstanbul easily from the hotel. I am able to walk up and down stairs, but it is not the hotel for those who can’t do stairs. There is no lift/elevator.
- Gerda (10/5): Charming place - This hotel is charming. The place is run by a family. I always felt like home and very well taken care of. The location is perfect: not far from the center; in one of the oldest parts of Istanbul. Rooms were spacious, with a nice view, nicely decorated (it seemed that every detail was thought about very carefully). The hotel has a very good fish restaurant as well. I highly recommend this hotel and I'd like to thank the owners for their hospitality. I would stay in this hotel again for sure. -
- Giorgio (9/5): Superb -
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (10/5): Beautiful way to wake up in turkey. Views of the water !!! - The dinner was amazing fish!!!! Best I had in Turkey No elevator but they helped with luggage. So that really helped.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (9/5): Superb -
- Olga (10/5): Perfect for solo traveller - Location, customer service, food and room decor None
- Anne (8/5): This is a great hotel, especially if you are new to Istanbul. We really enjoyed our stay. - Our accommodations were charming--a bedroom and small sitting room overlooking the Golden Horn section of the Bosphorus Strait. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lavish and very tasty: breads, cheeses, olives, eggs, fresh and dried fruit, tomatoes, cucumbers, various jams and spreads, pastries, and brewed coffee or tea. The staff was welcoming and very helpful--their hostess checked in with us every morning and gave us great advice about how to get around. With her help we quickly learned to use Istanbul's amazing public transportation system--buses, trams and ferries. The hotel is in a great location--the bus stop is a block away, the ferry terminal and tram station are across the street. They also have a good restaurant, although there are less expensive options available. The hotel is located on a busy street with traffic. Also, the restaurant is open late, and since our room was located directly above it, there was a fair amount of noise that sometimes went late into the night. We recommend staying in the back--the view won't be as nice, but it will be much quieter, and the room size and layout are the same. The hotel is non-smoking, which was great for us. The restaurant is non-smoking too--technically. But visitors should be aware that smoking is common in Turkey and while patrons went outside to smoke, the restaurant door was usually open, so there wasn't a lot of protection from the fumes.
- Chicago2914 (4/5): Not again - Location across the street from the tram Balat in general not a safe neighborhood after dark. Rooms with a window is very loud and the hotel in general has not been kept up nor is it clean.
- Obaidi (9/5): Superb -
- Saranarat (8/5): Very good -
- Jan (8/5): I would stay here again as I love this hotel - My second visit. I love this hotel. The staff are wonderful. The restaurant in the hotel has the best food. My walk up the stairs
- Stefan (8/5): Very good - Excellent staff, very educated, helpful and polite.
Wonderful food and very clean room I suggest that the hotel invests in soundproofing
- Mona (7/5): Neighborhood and hotel with a lot of character - It’s right across the street from the Tram and Fener fairy. The location allowed me to use public transportation a lot when I noticed the taxi’s and Ubers were trying to rip me off. Uber would call and instead of 100 lira (which is quoted) they call and say 400 or I’m not coming! Taxis also see you as a foreigner so they either don’t show or charge you 5x they charge a local. Being next to Balat / Fener neighborhood was a good experience but I would not stay in this location again. I like to walk around a lot and after dark Balat Fener is not safe. It’s old and outdated. No special pricing if you eat lunch or dinner. Breakfast was good. Simple things like cheese eggs olives etc
