Guest Reviews
- Sandeep (9/5): A beautiful, comfortable stay in a well-maintained cottage, slightly impacted by a challenging driveway in wet condition - Beautiful view and a comfortable stay, with all amenities provided; the house is clean, a charming old-style cottage, and very well maintained. The driveway is quite tight for larger vehicles and slopes steeply at the lower end; combined with the frequent rain during our stay, it made access a bit challenging.
- Vicki (6/5): The view was lovely but the cabin was poorly maintained. - The views were beautiful. The cabin was warm and the beds were comfortable. The host responded to all my questions and allowed us early access. The access to the property was very difficult. The driveway was super steep and narrow and felt dangerous in the rain. The stairs to the property were also steep, ragged and uneven and what rails were there, were loose and rotten. There was a used bar of soap in the shower and the door knob to the toilet fell off in my hand. There was inadequate toilet paper for our time. There didn’t seem to be a compendium of information anywhere and a few times we were at a loss as to how to use things. There were 4 bowls (for a 5 bed house) but over 50 glasses. There was old food in the pantry. There were gaps under the outside door which allowed mosquitoes to come inside. The gates were falling off their hinges. The whole place was quaint but needed a huge amount of maintenance and the access was verging on dangerous - especially in the rain.

- Rebecca (9/5): Highly Recomend this property, Views were spectacular! - Awesome Cabin, the views were amazing for sunset. Very clean. The aircon kept the whole place cool, didn't get to try the fireplace as it was summer and too hot. Kitchen was fully equipped. It was a lovely and quiet spot. Close by to all the best spots in Mount Dandenong.
Note, there are uneven stairs from the carport to the cabin, was not a problem for us but not accessible for those with access needs or who can't walk up stairs.
- Roland (9/5): Love a log cabin up a mountain. - This is a beautiful and very authentic log cabin that looks down the mountain to the north. We loved the sunroom, the cosy comfort of the lounge (which would be even better in winter) and the easy connection to the towns of the Ranges and the bush itself. The steep driveway is a challenge but gets easier with experience 😬
- Ashley (7/5): Quaint log cabin in a beautiful setting - Location, beautiful views, secluded setting and proximity to beautiful hikes and nature. The building was historic with lots of charm. No barbecue available despite being advertised in the facilities and with such a sunny day was a bit of a shame. Also a sun shade/parasol would have come in handy for the seating out on the deck.
- Leanne (9/5): Our stay was relaxing, comfortable and very pleasant. - The charm, warmth and ambience. The cabin was well stocked and well furnished. The bed was extremely comfortable. Central heating and air cons also made it very comfortable. The sunroom is great and the view, phenominal. The TV apps were all connected. Follow ups from an attentive host were appreciated. And the log walls...oh my gosh those log walls. The steps from the car to the front door, were too high and very difficult to navigate for older people. It would help if they were redone with a few additional steps to make smaller step ups. Even just adding a hand rail would be helpful.
The addition of a small narrow table with 2 chairs in the sunroom window would be a perfect place to sit for breakfast, coffee, afternoon wine and dips etc while enjoying the view.
There was enough wood for the fire for 1 night only so we had to choose which night to put it on. We didn't need it for warmth, but the ambience of a fire is lovely.
To be honest tho, apart from the steps, there really wasn't much not to like.
- KAREN (10/5): Excellent location and beautiful & unique experience - Very private location lined with trees and gardens. The beds were very comfortable and the whole cottage has multiple heating and cooling options making it a lovely place to be. The views were exceptional and the cottage had all we needed. It worked well for us as a family of 5 - three teen boys. Couch is very comfy as an extra bed! The driveway is a bit precarious but once you get up it a few times it’s fine!

- Elliott (10/5): The location and scenery was magical and the house was like chicken soup for the soul. Comforting. - Unique, great views, homely Na
- Jeff (9/5): A peaceful and unforgettable escape with breathtaking views. - Our stay at the Romantic Retreat in Kalorama was absolutely wonderful. The views from the veranda are truly stunning, you can see right across the Dandenong Ranges, all the way to Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay. At night, the city lights shimmer like colourful twinkling stars stretched out to the horizon; it’s completely mesmerizing.
During the day, we loved sitting outside watching the birds fly past and settle in the nearby trees, a peaceful and magical way to start the morning.
It was such a pleasure to find accommodation that’s genuinely dog friendly, allowing us to enjoy a true family getaway without leaving anyone behind. The house itself was beautifully set up, spacious, and welcoming, with super-comfy beds that made for a perfect night’s sleep.
A stay here feels both luxurious and homely, surrounded by nature yet close enough to explore the nearby villages. We’ll definitely be back, it’s a special place that captures the best of the Dandenongs.

- AnnieGsy (8/5): - Fabulous views in a cosy cottage Uneven steps to get to property....only an issue if you have mobility problems.
- BrentD (8/5): Great place to stay for a cheeky weekend away, only an hour from Bayside. - Fantastic location with stunning views of Melbourne. The log fire place and heater made for a very warm and cosy stay. We loved the claw bath and massive shower. The views of Melbourne from the enclosed front room are spectacular. The coffee machine . We could only manage to make one cup and it gave up the ghost. This would not have been an issue if the local coffee shop (300m away) was not closed for a couple of weeks..
- Viatcheslav (10/5): -
- Johnny (8/5): - Peaceful and up high and lots of character
Fireplace.
- Julia (9/5): Absolutely amazing! - The location and the cabin were absolutely amazing. Loved everything but it was advertised as having a barbecue and unfortunately did not have one.
Still 10/10
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Vickie (9/5): Quaint, Secluded Cottage with great facilities. - This was a great find - the cottage is old but very comfortable! We felt secluded in the lovely bush setting. However, it was only a short walk to a lovely cafe.
Comfortable beds and sitting areas. Be aware of the steep driveway and low roof car port. Limited turning room at top, but easily accessible with standard sedan / SUV type cars
