Guest Reviews

- Spencer (10/5): Relaxing oasis in the jungle - This was my favorite place to stay in Colombia so far. Just a few minutes walk from the Calabazo entrance to Tayrona, and it’s really in the nature. Laying in a hammock with a view of the mountains was a great way to unwind after two days hiking in the park.
The room was clean and comfortable.
Linh is a great host. I would have happily stayed longer.
- Ruben (8/5): - Ons verblijf bij Las Tekas was goed. De eigenaar is erg aardig en gastvrij. We konden onze bagage achterlaten tijdens onze hike door Tyrona.
- Jonas Rimantas (10/5): A cosy stay surrounded by nature and hospitality — the kind of place you’ll want to return to - If I get the chance again, I’m already dreaming of staying at Las Tekas many more times. It’s such a lovely and comfortable place. The frescoes and floor tiles are beautiful, and the rooms are cozy, brand-new, and well kept (we stayed in a separate, super-spacious apartment with a fridge, stove, two sinks, and a large bathroom). We saw so many different birds, and some even flew over and tapped on our windows. And just a 6-minute walk away, we were spotting toucans every single day. In the distance you could hear howler monkeys roaring (we even hiked to see them), and one morning cotton-top tamarins settled in the tall trees right by our apartment door (by the way, they’re endemic and one of the world’s most endangered primates).
If you enjoy hiking through hills and little forest paths, there’s about a 2 km trail leading all the way to the Rio Piedras river, where you’ll find not only truly nice scenery but also a beautiful forest restaurant at the meeting point of two rivers. We realized that Las Tekas is in an incredibly strategic location, right next to the village of Colinas de Calabazo, where passing buses stop — honestly, it might be the most convenient spot along the whole route from Santa Marta to Palomino, with lots of small shops and a beautiful large restaurant nearby.
The hotel owner, Linh, is an exceptional person — very friendly, always ready to help, and constantly smiling. He’s very modest yet incredibly talented, a true intellectual and very musical, and he speaks fluently Spanish, English, and Italian (his native language) — maybe even more. And his lovely dog Teka is pure elegance. Nothing really to criticise — but in the future, it might be helpful to have an illustrated poster or small guide to the wildlife that can be spotted around the hotel.

- Eline (9/5): - We had a lovely stay at Las Tekas. The atmosphere is very relaxed thanks to the owner Linh. We had some nice conversations with him, and he had nice tips for places to visit. The roof terrace was an amazing place to chill and see all kinds of birds. The location is perfect for Tayrona NP. The Calabazo entrance is across the street, which is the start of some beautiful jungle trails. We definitely advise this place.

Cercana a tiendas y restaurantes.

- Johanna (8/5): Good value for money - Owner greeted us warmly. Very helpful and said we could leave our bags there if needed while trekking. Convenient to the start of the Tayrona NP from the Kalahazo entrance. Room was lovely with balcony off it with hammock. Definitely only take this room. Pool/ jacuzzi was cool and refreshing. Fan in the room was OK but nowhere near as good as AC. It was hot and this was in May. Bathroom lovely though if you were large in size you may have trouble getting into the shower? Walked to the shops a few hundred metres back to the road for dinner. Breakfast was lovely. Owner constantly smoked and it wafted up to where we were. He also smoked in the kitchen preparing food. Asked for juice with breakfast but he said he’d run out and that he could go to the shops? Do you think you would be prepared for guests especially having booked over 3 weeks prior?
- Lucille (10/5): Exceptional -
- Schlevogt (10/5): Best stay in Colombia - Best place during our one month Colombia traveling. Super nice team! Nice dog! Clean. Beautiful views. Quite. Hammock. Pool. Breakfast. Close to park entrance. We stayed 3 nights and wished we stayed longer.
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional - A relaxing oasis, away from the busy main road through Calabazo. But only a short walk to buses and the entrance to the National Park. Nothing
- Mariusz (10/5): The best place in Colinas de Calabazo - If you're not going to stay in Tayrona National Park Colinas de Calabazo is one of the best options. The hosue is just 400 m away from the entrance to the park. Buses between Santa Marta and Palomino stops here. There are some shops (only basic products and slightly higher prices) and restaurants.
The owener speaks Spanish and English, and he's a very friendly and helpful person.
The house itself is located 200 m from the main road so it's calm and quite (the only noises are dogs barking at night and birds chirping in the morning). There are two or three guests rooms and the owner lives here as well. There's a small swimming pool (to cool down, not to swim) and rooftop terrace with tables and hammock - good place to rest after hiking.
We got the only room on the 1st floor which was quite large and comfortable, the same with bathroom. Everytwhere was really clean.
There's no kitchen available, but a breakfast is served every morning. Also, we asked for an electric kettle and we got one with two cups.
- Breandan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Breandan (10/5): Exceptional - The host Linh, is an exception host. We arrived late in the evening due to some transport issues and he was super accommodating. Breakfast was amazing and the location ideal for us to start of 3 day Tayrona National Park Trek (Location is very close to the Calabazo Entrance to the park). He also stored some of our luggage while we done our hike and we collected them a few days later with no issues at all. I could not recommend this place enough. 10/10 for us.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - A great place to stay ,surrounded by amazing vegetation and with a beautiful terrace with a hammock .Lots of space, inside and outside, spotlessly clean, good breakfasts, great location ..Lyn is a really attentive host and a great artist ,his mosaic walls are really beautiful. The lovingly, attentive dog completes the picture! Wasn't too keen on the volume of noise from neighbouring Calabazo at the weekend. However, inside the room it was fine
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Emilie (10/5): Great hosts, lovely place, good value for money, and very close to the Calabazo entrance road. - Las Tekas is a a great little newly opened place - a short walk from the main road, down a side road, and very close to the Calabazo entrance to Tayrona. The hosts were especially lovely - very welcoming and happy to give valuable advice about the park and local area. Teka (the hotel dog) was also very cute and friendly, which was a bonus. They've only been open for a month so everything is brand new, and they've built a fantastic viewing deck on the top of the property for (unofficial) bird watching and views across the jungle. It was fantastic value for money and very well located - would definitely recommend.
- Annika (10/5): Exceptional - Linh is a great host. He just started hosting people and don't expect it to be a 5 star hotel, but if you are looking for a refugium with a lovely person who shares it's place, you are right. There are all kind of birds around and the entrance to Tayrona is just across the street. In the weekend the music is quite loud in the neighborhood but that is the Colombian way, so bring earplugs or celebrate with them. 🥰
- Lucia (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel is very close to centre, clean, comfortable. The owner is very kind mam, helped me to arrange trip to Tayrona park. I definitely reccommend the stay The gate needs a name of hostel
