Guest Reviews
- Joshua (10/5): - This cottage has a very cute, kitschy vibe, some details reminding us pleasantly of Nanna's house. The owner, although on holidays at the time of our visit, was responsive when we had to contact him. We stayed during a storm, but the Shack was filled with natural light during the day from the multiple windows and skylights. During the night the only sound was from rain, crickets, frogs and a lovely little wallaby visitor who was munching on some grass right next to the steps of the balcony. Lots of little wildlife encounters were enjoyed. We loved the little booklet with the details of how the Shack was built. It was 3 degrees when we arrived at night, the little heater took a few hours to take the chill out of the place. It was a little difficult to find the place and parking at night as the driveway isn't lit well.

- Ash (10/5): Excellent. Highly recommend others to book this accommodation as it is beautiful. - Absolutely everything was fantastic. The location was beautiful, peaceful and secluded. The host had everything set up easily and there were no issues with being in the property.
- Emily (7/5): Would stay again - It was so nice and peaceful, lots of wildlife you can see from the porch Everything was pretty good except, the host should double check the cups and spoons as previous guest seem to have just been rinsing the cups.
EVERYTHING ELSE WAS PERFECT WOULD STAY AGAIN :)
- Adam (10/5): -
- Emma (10/5): - I liked how cosy it was, the heaters worked well. The view was amazing.
- Michal (9/5): Great Cozy cottage. A comfortable escape to nature.. - N/A
- Maina (9/5): Cozy - Location is really good, saw kangaroos every morning. Amazing crockery and property is very well decorated. Bathroom is really cold in the winter
- Ava (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jo-anne (9/5): Cute & cosy cottage - So quiet, peaceful & relaxing. My friend & I enjoyed our 2 nights stay. There’s nothing I don’t like but a couple of suggestions
1. Install solar lights at the car park/main entrance as too dark at night. We used our phones to see where we’re going.
2. Install a fly wire at the main big door.
- Jordan (10/5): It was amazing and the communication was great.will stay here again for sure we had the best time - Super cute and cosy! On a beautiful property it was bliss waking up to kangaroos just in front of the balcony! It was honestly perfect our only thought would be maybe a proper door lock instead of just the latch when you’re inside
- Matthew (8/5): Very good - Decor, seclusion, bedroom. Felt comfortable. Lots of flies & mosquitos) some windows have no fly wire). Bit cold in bathroom. Weird smell in kitchen.
- Peter (9/5): We spent 2 nights and we really comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. - Le Shack has heaps of character and is a lot of fun. It is very rustic which adds to its charm and is a bit different…
- Charles (7/5): A charming property with character that catered pretty well for our stay. We enjoyed our visit. - Le Shack was cute, cosy and loved the decor.
Sitting on the deck looking towards the bushland.
The kangaroo sightings and the sounds of the wildlife.
The blue velvety couch - so comfy!
The quietness. The aircon struggled. It was uncomfortable at night.
The amount of insects inside at night time mostly. Ensure to bring some insect repellent and insect spray for the warmer months. We got bitten by the mozzies.
Probably could do with some solar lights from the car parking area to the main entrance. We used our phones to see where we were walking at night.
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (9/5): Superb - So serene. Loved listening to the trees and the birds, sitting on the verandah, and watching the passing kangaroo mob. The bed is really comfy and all the local timbers used to build the cottage make it completely unique. 👍🏼
- Zafira (9/5): A great relaxing stay close to town, with friendly hosts - The property is beautiful and private - it's so close to town, yet it feels like you're somewhere in the secluded, quiet bushland. I loved having a morning coffee on the back deck with a bunch of roos chilling just a stone's throw away! The hosts, Peter and Minna, were extremely helpful and friendly. Minna was also kind enough to give us a tour of her pottery studio and gallery located onsite. Some small maintenance items could be addressed (e.g. one dodgy internal door handle), but there really wasn't much we weren't happy with.
- Doris (10/5): Exceptional - It’s a lovely little heaven in Mother Nature!! We can see Peter and Mina put their hearts into making that piece of art.
- Palumbo (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy and beautifully decorated space with stunning views over the forest. Quiet and peaceful break from the city with birdsong and kangaroos to greet you every morning, we loved it.
- Dewys (10/5): Beautiful cozy stay, beautiful location and such a warm vibe about the property - Cannot be anymore grateful for such a beautiful stay!
The photos don’t do it justice. You won’t regret your stay here.
- Robert (10/5): Fantastic bush retreat in an authentic LeShack experience - The location of the property in the bush, close to town, and so peaceful and quiet. The kangaroos coming up each morning for feeding was a real highlight. My wife and I really enjoyed having breakfast and dinner on the balcony with the kangaroos also having their meal at this time too!!!
All the facilities in the shack were excellent, and very comfortable. Much appreciated the wifi being available for us to use as well.
We were absolutely delighted with the stay and will be back for another stay.
Love the pottery in the house and the plates/cups all made from the local area.
Really enjoyed the introduction book about the building of LeShack as well.
Overall, a fantastic experience and I have already shared with workmates who enjoy travelling for weekend getaways. Initially I did not know there was wifi available as phone signal was only 1 bar, but once we joined the wifi, this made the experience much better.
Could I put a suggestion to have a visitors register book in the shack where people can leave a comment, eg where they are from etc creates a great experience for those staying to know who has been visiting and their feedback, eg great to see the kangaroos.
- Lauren (9/5): Superb - great location tucked away out of the crowds, very peaceful and connected to nature, lovely facilities, very quick and easy to check in/out and communicate with hosts :) fantastic spot for a weekend getaway I would probably be a little hesitant to stay during summer in mosquito season!
- Werner (10/5): A wonderful relaxing experience will go again - Everything an unbelievable surprise. When they say cozy cottage this at the apex . With lots of wildlife and walks and less than 5 minutes into town Nothing
- Skelmpie (8/5): Le Shack appeal - There were no frills and was basic. Loved the brass taps and rustic look giving it that shack appeal.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - The “shack” was gorgeous, like a Disney cottage. Stunning views of wildlife and trees. The extra blankets provided were wonderful and we had everything we needed.
- Kathryn (8/5): Very good - The Shack was secluded & extremely quiet. The only noise was from the birds, frogs & kangaroos, which was wonderful!
The cabin was cosy with lovely decor from the owner's holidays. We loved that it was built with reclaimed materials. Especially loved the handmade crockery & other pieces such as the bathroom sink!
The cost was very reasonable, the cabin extremely clean & tidy.
With only a 7 minute drive into Daylesford, it was a wonderful find! The bed was too small for us!
So was the carpark, especially driving in to park in the dark!!
You could move the fence in-between Le Shack & La Boehme to make it easier.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Even better than the pictures! Stunning location and extremely relaxing
- Roni (10/5): one of the best places i’ve stayed at in aus. you won’t regret and won’t forget this place - everything was just perfect. could not rate this place highly enough. it is an absolute dream and will be coming back for sure! if you’re looking for a full nature and bush getaway this is the spot. a true home away from home.
- Elise (10/5): Exceptional - How peaceful and relaxing the house was
- Jemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deane (9/5): Superb -
- Charlotte (10/5): Highly recommend - Can't rate this place highly enough for families and would be a perfect romantic retreat too!
Incredible location, loved exploring the land and seeing all the kangaroos was amazing. Place itself was spotless, heater was great for warming up the place and comfy bed/sofa bed.
We will be back in the future Nothing, it was all great
- Tara (9/5): Superb - The location was lovely, very peaceful and had daily visits by a mob of kangaroo. Bedding was very comfy and cottage had lots of character.
- Roger (8/5): Peaceful, beautiful surrounds in a charming cozy shack. 💕 - The location was amazing, so quiet, private and peaceful. The little shack is quirky and gorgeous. It had a clean full sized fridge, great stove and oven, kitchen equipment, nice plates and cups. Very welcoming and homely. Bathroom cute with clean facilities. Little veranda with couch, table and 2 chairs. It had 2 couches which was nice and a big kitchen table to eat off. I loved it, perfect rustic little shack to find peace and beauty. 🙂 We couldn’t get the tv working and would have liked to use it at night. The towels smelled musty and were old and needed replacing with soft new towels. Bed was a bit hard. A nice soft mattress topper would be nice. Everything else was lovely.
- Josh888 (8/5): Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Le Shack, highly recommended for those seeking solitude in the bush. - Nice secluded gem nestled amongst the tall trees in a good location not to far from the main town center, clean comfy bed, pillows & sheets, basic self contained shack with most of the bare essentials you'll expect, place was clean and practical, really enjoyed the quite and serenity of the location, a bonus to see the local wildlife kangaroos roaming freely and sunbaking all from the comfort of the shack, I enjoyed looking up through the celling window at night star gazing, I could see the 'Southern Cross".....if you stood facing the bathroom and looked up through the celling window, amazing!
Could of added a more special experience for me, if I was able to star gaze directly outside under the stars at night, (Not complaining) but unfortunately it was really quite dark outside the property and I couldn't see one foot in front of the other
I should have packed a torch with me, oh well.
Really liked reading the history of le Shack and how construction started back in the 70's in the little booklet by Peter & Minna, a must read!
- Suggestion for future, maybe create a basic outdoor seating area by utilizing natural materials like logs and include a fire pit, to sit around roasting marshmallows and enjoying mother nature. On arrival to the property, there was a bit of confusion, I drove right up to the fence, I could see the number for the property, however I missed the sign " Le Shack" due to it being quite faded and easy to miss, I was unsure if I should procced forward as it was private property, so I did a u turn several times and doubled back until I saw the faded sign, and eventually made it to Le Shack.
- Suggestion, maybe more detailed directions for future guests.
- Some of the spare throw rugs could do with a wash.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location. The kangaroos visiting from the verandah is lovely Nothing
- Jiby (10/5): Comfy cottage in serene environment - Picturesque Location with lots of kangaroos around. Comfy stay with all essential amenities. Well located from town centre.
- Brett (10/5): Complemented our time in Daylesford and a welcoming, cosy retreat after a day out. - Beautiful location, quiet and less then 10 minutes from the heart of Daylesford.
The feel of the cottage was perfect for those seeking a short respite from the noise of the city life, or just a small getaway.
The bed was a firm mattress and this suited us perfectly as the whole presentation of the cottage just embraced you when you walked in.
- Jesi (10/5): Gorgeous and cosy place, filled with beautiful pottery. The bedroom view was amazing! -
- Brooke (10/5): A hidden gem! - Absolutely gorgeous little shack. Very homely, comfortable, a great location and very environmentally friendly which was a huge bonus for us. We were very lucky to wake up to kangaroos right outside our window which was absolutely spectacular. Highly recommend for singles/couples looking for a relaxing place to stay - we will definitely be back! The only suggestion I have is to put a curtain/blind over the bathroom window, just for peace of mind
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location - gorgeous views - wildlife. We especially loved the little peek-a-boo window from the kitchen to the bedroom and the interesting window to look out from the kitchen. The whole shack is very bespoke. Everything was fine.
- Nazreth (8/5): Very good -
- Sarsh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (10/5): Minna and Peter have created a divine escape from the modern world. Felt very privileged to be here. - Gorgeous, secluded little cottage in the woods. Authentic building with divine pottery by the owner. Very clean and well stocked with everything needed. Bonus to have the kangaroos munching on grass right in front of the cottage in the mornings and evenings. Not necessary, but a flywire door on the back could be good.
- Renee (8/5): Very good -
- Tiahnee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eva (9/5): Superb - The tranquillity.
- Linda (8/5): Great place to get away - Loved the peace and quiet, comfortable deck to sit and relax, self contained, fantastic place to get away . I would suggest a fly wire door leading out onto the deck to enable cross breeze.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (10/5): Had a great weekend - Very rustic cottage great view’s
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional - Le Shack was exactly what we were hoping it would be. It was clean, the beds were so comfortable and the property was beautiful. Our children loved waking up to Kangaroos roaming the property and the view from the porch was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
We were looking for a little shack to get away and we got exactly that. We highly recommend.
- Heath (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (9/5): In nature - The location was great and enabled us to connect back with nature.
- Jodie (10/5): We go away a weekend every month and this stay in the last few years was the best. - This property was everything that we needed and wanted. Relaxing and homely. Being surrounded by Kangaroos and nature, the kookaburras and hearing the frogs outside at night was so amazing. The property was perfect in every way.
- Aditi (7/5): Good -
- Shelley (10/5): I went away to relax and relax I did. I went shopping, spent all day some days just in the peace and quiet. I bought som - Everything! The calming peace, the wildlife at your door, I loved that it was eclectic, the shower was amazing, the view…everything. Nothing.
- Amanda (10/5): Great winter weekend away, will be back again in the Summer - Great location, quiet and peaceful but easy short drive into Daylesford. Even though it was a really cold weekend it was very cosy, lots of snuggly blankets provided, comfortable bed and great spot for watching kangaroos each morning. Nothing I didn’t like, but be prepared for some mud if it’s been raining as it is down a dirt track, and if you have a Vodafone account don’t expect any phone coverage
- Mark (5/5): a disappointment and not worth wgat we payed. - quirky, nice view of kangaroos in the morning. cold (had to sleep clothed), very basic, muddy parking and track, difficult to find, no pathway into the building that wasnt muddy, towels were scratchy and were not warm and comfortable, didn't feel relaxing or romantic at all.
- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabrielle (8/5): Beautiful, magical, great value for money - Beautiful location, unique and charming house, and really affordable for such a lovely place in such a great spot! We would love to come back. Not much to dislike! Only thing I can think of is that the shower door doesn't seal well
- John (8/5): A very nice place to stay. Loved the Kangaroos lining the ridgetop to welcome us - A lovely secluded location. Very quiet. Driveway in needs a bit of grading
- Chris (9/5): Rustic and cosy shack - Rustic and cosy. Great back porch with excellent view and serenity. Kangaroos. Great for a country retreat. Towels could be better. Blinds needed for kitchen and bathroom windows.
