Guest Reviews

Super 👍🏻
- Chris (10/5): Excellent value for a one night stay at the end of our trip. - Quirky little Homestay right in the centre of the Old Quarter, not far from the lake and the action. The room was clean and the communication with the host was spot on. Nil.
- Filip (7/5): -
- Nicole (7/5): Close the centre - It is the central, easy get to see around.
The staff try to help you. To be fair, I will list the following drawbacks:
1. It is a small path take you to the last floor of the house where my room. You can not find it if no staff help.
2. A lot of dogs backing when anyone movie around.
3. The room i booked have no pictures about the bathroom on the web, it is outside and not comfortable if you need to use it. Also, the floor too slippery, it can be make you fall.
4. All of the door not really safe and very difficult to use it, it looks broken.
So typisch old House.

- Pauline (8/5): Super rapport qualité-prix!
- Simone (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): - Excellent location and very clean. The stairs are a hassle especially with luggage but a small price to pay for a great little spot
- Elise (9/5): - C'est cosy. Et les propriétaires sont sympas.
- Robert (10/5): -
- Annett (8/5): Gute Wahl - Tolle Lage, sehr freundlicher Gastgeber, alles, was man braucht Kläffende Hund beim Aufstieg waren etwas scary
- Maria Angela (10/5): -
- Aurelie (9/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Great location in the Old Quarter - The location is excellent. Room and facilities are very comfortable. Very nice owner/manager and great communication all throughout.
- Jonathan (10/5): A charming stay in a great location. - Old House Homestay had great character and charm — just like the photos. Everything listed was accurate, and the location was amazing. Best of all, Mr Tri was an awesome host — friendly, helpful, and made the stay really easy. Would definitely recommend if you're after something with local character and a great vibe. I didn't mind the stairs, but some may not like them!
- janet (10/5): - Super Lage, super netter Gastgeber, durften sogar schon früh 7 Uhr einchecken Der Weg zum Appartement ist sehr abenteuerlich :).
- Winnie (10/5): Cozy place in the middle of old quarter - Cozy and special place! Be aware that you have to take some stairs to get there, but worth it!
- Claire (10/5): Cozy and clean stay with perfect location - We stayed here twice during our time in Vietnam and this was our favorite place to stay. The room is so cozy! And it had the perfect location and is extremely clean! Loved our stay here and would definitely recommend staying here! It is a bit of a climb with stairs to get to the room, this was no problem for us. the host will help you with getting your bags to and from the room😊
- Molly (10/5): Great location, very clean and a really helpful host - The location was perfect right in the middle of the old quarter but quiet enough that you weren’t kept awake by the noise of the street. The room was clean and the host was really helpful and accommodating.
- Patrycja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sabrina (10/5): Super kind and friendly service - Super kind and friendly service
- Seamus (10/5): Exceptional - Host was extremely helpful and friendly greeting us to check in at 2am, clean and homely apartment in great location with no noise from the Main Street would definitely stay again
- Eva (10/5): I can recommend the accommodation 100%! I really liked it here. Thank you very much! - I found the most amazing place! It's a hidden gem in the middle of the old district. Despite its very central location, the accommodation is super quiet because it's on the third floor of a rear building. It's clean and very spacious. There's even a small balcony. The owner is super friendly and very helpful. He even helped me carry my luggage and drove me to the bus stop on my last day. None.
- Marta (10/5): Cozy little room for a local Hanoi experience - The host was the best, he gave us very good recommendations. He helped us get from the airport to the homestay (our flight arrived at 5h30am) and hold our luggage until the room was ready. The actual room was very clean and the little balcony with chairs was very nice to relax in.
We had everything we needed and our stay was very nice :) It was not a negative for us, we thought it added to the experience, but it is worth noticing that the way to get there is very narrow steps, so if you have big luggage it would be a little tricky. The host offered to help us with our things if we needed though, he was very helpful!
- Hoang (10/5): Exceptional - - The owner is enthusiastic and cheerful.
- Although the house is on a high floor, it is very spacious and has a balcony, which is quite rare in the price segment of the same area.
- Will suit young people
- Timothy (8/5): Great location, clean and comfortable room. - Great location and very nice host. Tri helped us with everything we needed. Room was clean and comfortable.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Very unique room. It has a special atmosphere.
- Josh (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (10/5): Amazing!!! - The host is an awesome person, who is availble for contact 24 hours per day. Very friendly and gives more hospitality than is required. The accomodation is clean, and has all you need. I think everone should experience this homestay to get more inside information on living in a busy city as Hanoi. I think I have one suggestion for host: maybe include the experience of sharing a meal with the family or friends, or offer a tour on a bike together with the host..This would increase their income and will be a superb experience for the guests. I thought about this idea, because he is such a nice person as company.
- Ádám (10/5): Exceptional - The location is perfect, its in the centre, altough you can sleep at night, there is not much noise.
- Marco (10/5): Exceptional - The location in the old town is perfect. You have anything in walking distance. The owner was so kind, lovely and helpful. He booked us a privat taxi from the airport and welcomed us with a cold vietnam beer. He also took care of us the whole stay. We could exchange money by him without any fee and we could text him whenever we needed help. We can highly recommand this homestay.
- Chelsea (10/5): Exceeded Expectations - WOW! - This Homestay absolutely exceeded our expectations and that was because of the host. When we arrived he and his partner picked us and our bags up from the taxi he had arranged for us. He gave us a personal tour of the stay which was wonderful- great location right in the heart of Old Quarter, but also quiet for good sleep. He even got us welcome drinks while carrying our huge bags up the stairs!! He was always available for questions 24/7. He was always accommodating to our schedule especially on check out. Lastly, we left something in the room - he immediately messaged me and to our disbelief he SHIPPED IT all the way to Ninh Binh to our hotel to meet us on our next leg of the journey. Overall, we were blown away by the hosts hospitality, kindness, and overall value of everything you get staying here. We will be back soon!!
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - A very beautiful place in the center of the city, close to the lake. Ideal if you want to experience the true atmosphere of Hanoi.
The lessor is very accommodating and willing to help you with everything. They will recommend where the best food is and what is good to see.
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - amazing host in every way! from sending us useful general information before our flight, organizing a great reliable pick up, always being reachable during our stay and so much more :) what a great way to get introduced to vietnamese hospitality! setting the bar very high! 😁
- Philp (10/5): Awesome Homestay - The homestay was super clean, comfortable and close to everything you need in Hanoi. The host was very helpful, accommodating and very honest. I loved everything, nothing bad to say.
- Joanne (8/5): Great budget option in Old Quarter - Brilliant location in Old Quarter and most generous hospitality. Communication with Chih was great and he picked me up from the bus stop within 3 minutes of me calling. Such care in this homestay. It was immaculate and there were so many thoughtful touches. Unfortunately the bed was quite hard - too much for my liking. Please also be aware of the narrow stairs to reach the room which may not suit everyone.
- Wilhelmina (10/5): Exceptional - The homestay has a great location in the city, and is really charming. The host is also really sweet, gave us recommendations, and even bought me medicine when i got food poisoning. The bed is a bit hard, and you stay on the third floor, but the host helps you with your luggage so no problem for most
- Juazlina (9/5): Best host ever! - Great location. And the host is super friendly, helpful, thoughtful, and accommodating! The best host ever! We will definitely come back to his place! None
- Micah (10/5): The perfect cozy loft in Hanoi - Wow, what a gem of a homestay. Located on the third floor where you could escape from all the noise and hustle of the city, this homestay was the perfect oasis in the middle of Hanoi. I loved that it was smack dab in the middle of the city, while also providing a quiet spot to get away from everything going on below. This was exactly what I needed, and the host was one of the most sweet people I’ve ever met. You can’t miss staying here if you want to visit downtown Hanoi!!! 11/10
- Francesca (10/5): Kindest man in Hanoi - A unique well equipped room with lots of character. Location in the heart of Hanoi, close to the lake. We were met with a warm welcome and made to feel at home with tasty fruit and help with bags. Always available to help and provide advice. A super host. Nothing
- Julian (8/5): Very good - The host was great and gave us fruits, helped us carry our bags in. The the location was fantastic close to all the main attractions. Comfortable bed and perfectly working AC. For the price don't have extremely high expectations. The entrance is in an alleyway and the stairs to the homestay was not very clean so it can be a bit unsettling. The room is up a flight of stairs. The washroom could be a bit more cleaner.
- Nina (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly and helpful host, location was great and room nice and clean! Definitely recommend this place!
- Yuliya (10/5): Perfect location! Great value for money! And an excellent Host! - The host was super nice and very helpful, recommended us some great places to eat, on arrival he offered us some homemade cookies and water helping us with our bags to the room, he was very quick and responsive whenever we needed any help or questions. The location was literally perfect, you walk down the stairs and walk out onto the busy street where your in the heart of the tourist area with lots of great restaurants and cafes and a very convenient 7Eleven right across the street. The property is very close to all the main attractions and we found it really easy to walk to all of them. It would be nice to have a mini fridge in the room but that’s just my opinion. All in all we enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend this property!!!!!!
- Sel (9/5): Enjoy the myriad flavours and honest-to-goodness hospitality of Hanoi - Location of the property is unbeatable; right around the corner is Hoan Kiem Lake, and few steps over you can find ATM, shops, eateries, cafes and spas - it's at the very heart of the lively city and you can experience the most of Hanoi here. Host is very cheerful and helpful, and made me feel safe and comfortable as a solo female traveller in a very busy foreign city; the other people in the building are also nice and friendly. The room itself is cozy and spacious, surprisingly quiet given it's on a busy street. You can ask your concerns before your stay so host can guide you; he is the best! I am very thankful and happy with my stay. In true Hanoi fashion, the house itself is hidden so the first time I had to get back on my own I got a bit confused but the aunties outside were helpful so I found it eventually; if, unlike me, you remember things quickly you won't have this problem because host will welcome you when you arrive.
- Miao (10/5): Exceptional - The room is spacious and clean. Location is very convenient, just a 2 minutes walk to the lake and next to the weekend night market. Host is very helpful and nice. The steps leading to the house is quite narrow and steep, and there are dogs barking as you climb up to the house. Sound insulation is not very good but the neighbours are generally quiet at night
- Harry (9/5): Brilliant location and very helpful host - Fantastic location right near Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. Good shopping/restaurants around if you’re interested in that, and walkable to places like the Hoa Lo Prison. The host was super friendly and always on call to help, assisting with bags on stairs, letting us check out later than we expected, and providing water/some snacks when we returned after being out. The room itself was comfortable and spacious, just when you left to go to the bathroom you had to make sure you were covered up as it looks over to a neighbours terrace! Was rarely busy however. Nothing
- Karla (9/5): Tranquil, clean, well-supplied room with gracious host right in the centre of the Old Quarter. - From my first night's arrival in Hanoi, I knew I was in safe hands due to the friendliness of the proprietor. He offered me a motorbike pick up if I took the 86 bus in from the airport, he carried my luggage upstairs, he brought me water. Nothing was too much trouble. When he saw that I was struggling with the stairs he even offered to find other accommodation for me at a similar price in the neighbourhood. His whole concern was to support me during my stay in Hanoi, whether that meant hosting me or not. The stairs are truly difficult for someone with mobility challenges like me, but I loved the accommodation. The room is huge and everything is immaculately clean, with the host even changing the bed for me during my three night stay. One has exclusive use of the whole third floor with little garden area, adjacent bathroom, nicely equipped with shampoo, soap, even toothbrush/toothpaste, decent water pressure and resident watch-cat. (I like cats and was happy to think of him watching over me at night). The room is amazingly quiet for being right in the center of the throbbing Old Quarter. It is comfortably air conditioned and has a fan too, and there is a hair dryer. The wifi is good and strong. The host has thought of everything! In common with many beds in Asia this one is hard and about a foot from the floor. The low profile furniture made it difficult for me (again, the mobility issues). If you were a fit young couple or solo traveller you would have no trouble at all. The excellence of the location cannot be emphasized enough. It is RIGHT at the heart of things, steps from Hoan Kiem lake and the Water Puppet theatre. There are tons of excellent eateries around here. I love the Pho place right around the corner (My van than dinh Liet) which boasts all of 5 dishes on its menu and every one of them delicious. And Met (13 Hang Be) was a superb choice for dinner. Money changers and travel agents abound, so you can plan all your onward itinerary. As mentioned the stairs were an issue for me, but they wouldn't be for every traveller. I hesitate to say anything negative because the quality of the hospitality and general level of accommodation for the price were so exceptional.
- Anastasiya (10/5): Exceptional - This is overall an amazing homestay!
Location: Very central in the Old Quarter, but the room itself is not directly facing the street. You still may hear the noise, but that is the part of experience staying in this part of the city.
People: The owner is absolutely amazing!!! He offers pickup at the airport or the bus station, and he stored my luggage for the days that I was outside of Hanoi for overnight trips. Absolutely amazing, enthusiastic service day and night!
Room: There is everything you would need and more. Toiletries, hair dryer, kettle, a small iron, AC... And if there is something missing, you can always ask. Also, the adjacent balcony/terrace offers a cute oasis to rest from the hectic Hanoi life. Everything is also decorated with obvious love to detail.
A small warning: you need to walk three long, steep flights of stairs to get to the room, which may be difficult to some people or if you have big luggage (but even then, you can ask the owner for help).
If I happen to return to Hanoi, I will book here again!
- Ilaria (10/5): Exceptional - Very welcoming and helpful host. The room was clean and equipped with everything you need. Excellent location. Recommended!
- Plamen (10/5): A little 💎 in the ❤️ of Hanoi!!! 12/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - This is certainly one of the best places to stay over when in Hanoi and CERTAINLY #1 VALUE FOR MONEY in the city!!!
Amazing location!
Very spacious room with with enough natural light and unique interior design rouches.
...you get your own small balcony even :))))
The host is a real treasure! They'd go out of their way to ensure your utmost comfort in every imaginable way!
They not only welcomed us on the street and helped us unload our bags from the motorcycle but would not let us carry out bags ourselves... You very rarely see such hospitality these days!
Without us asking they put a sturdy lock on our bike🔒 and have us the 🗝️ ❤️
We took advantage of the really competitively priced express laundry service offered at the property.
We were supposed to stay for 1 night and ended up spending 4 nights @ this amazingly cozy little gem in the heart of Hanoi!
Thank you for everything! We loved it but anyone booking should keep in mind the property is on the top floor and there are some (narrow) stairs to overcome.
...for us this added to the charm of the place ❤️
Also do not expect luxury - still you get five times more than what you pay for plus the unique Old Hanoi House atmosphere! ✨
- Chloe (10/5): The best hidden gem in Old Hanoi - I loved everything. It is calm, very well located, clean and has everything you need, even a terrace! The room is spacious, the bathroom even has heating lamps for whn you shower and you have the entire last floor to yourself. On top of that, the owner is incredibly kind and helpful and goes out if his way to make sure you have everything you need. I will be back in Hanoi later this year and I hope I will be able to book with them again. Nothing. Just note that there are many narrow steps to go up, so it will be a small challenge if you have a suitcase.
- Ottavia (9/5): Superb - The room is nice and cozy and the location is perfect.
Everything was also very clean. Hanoi was very cold during the days we were there and the owner provided us with an electric heater and in the toilet there were heating lamps. A special mention to the owner who’s such a kind person! He helped us bringing our luggages upstairs and downstairs, he provided us with two SIM cards and he also gave us two ponchos for our trip to Sapa! Nothing
- Donaldas (7/5): Without large luggage - Very quite Very steep and super narrow stairs.
And so on to the 4th floor.
Don't even try with a large traveling suitcase.
- Claudia (10/5): Comfortable and clean place in the old quarter - Clean and comfortable property. Good and convenient central location in the old quarter. Host was extremely kind and helpful, always willing to go the extra mile to support guests. Property is found well inside a small alley on the 3rd floor, and you will have to walk by the neighbour’s dog on the 2nd floor. It will bark at you as you’re climbing the stairs, but that is no fault of the homestay owner, as it’s the neighbour’s dog. There are several narrow flights of steps to get to the room, and the homestay owner will kindly assist to carry your luggage up.
- Hugo (10/5): Thanks! - Host is super nice and was so helpful with our very late check-in. Room is cozy with everything you need. Location is great, in the center of the old quarter. Would definitely recommend.
- Marlene (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! The host is super nice and very helpful. The room is big with your own little terrace and bathroom which is nice. Also the location could not be better. The mattress was a little stiff for my taste.
- Veronika (10/5): It’s super nice an central but also calm! - Super nice and pretty huge space. I also liked the design and actually everything
- Johnny (9/5): Great location, friendly host - Great location for the homestay. The room was clean when I checked in. There is a nicely decorated balcony outside the room which I think it's good for chilling out before sleeping. The host provides towel, toothbrush and shampoo. WiFi connection is good. The mattress was too hard for me to sleep well in. It could just be my preference for less "hard" mattress. The host didn't provide specific instructions on getting up to the 3rd floor, so I had difficulty in finding the stairs up to the house. The stairs are hidden by metal doors which you need to pull it to see the stairs. Beware of dogs barking at you while walking up./down the stairs.
- Lucy (10/5): Excellent stay - The room was perfect to arrive to- private and comfortable and close to the lake and busy old town but peacefully away from it too. Host arranged airport pickup and bus station dropoff. I recommend completely. There are several flights of stairs which was fine for me and makes for a nice atmosphere but IF you aren't good with stairs, not ideal.
- Maria (10/5): Perfect - The room is very cute and cozy, very nicely decorated and clean. There is hair dryer, even iron if you need it. Many sockets for your appliances, hot water, heater in the bathroom, tv if you need it. There is full privacy and a balcony to yourself. The host is great and very helpful. He even came to pick me up from bus stop. I fully recommend the stay in this room.
- Bart (9/5): Superb -
- Cc (9/5): Location was fantastic. - The room was private with attached bathroom.
It was on the top floor.
It was at the centre location, can get everything you want.
It was very convenient.
The host was fantastic and very helpful. Climbing up the stairs was my problem.
The alleyway was narrow n dark.
The stairs was a bit narrow for me.
